Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, have mercy on those who shave their hair." They said, "And those who shorten (their hair), Messenger of Allah." He said, "O Allah, have mercy on those who shave." They said, "And those who shorten, Messenger of Allah." He said, "And those who shorten."  

مالك:٢٠-١٩٦ – حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمِ الْمُحَلِّقِينَ قَالُوا وَالْمُقَصِّرِينَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمِ الْمُحَلِّقِينَ قَالُوا وَالْمُقَصِّرِينَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ وَالْمُقَصِّرِينَ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah! Be merciful to those who have their head shaved." The people said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! And (invoke Allah for) those who get their hair cut short." The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Allah! Be merciful to those who have their head shaved." The people said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! And those who get their hair cut short." The Prophet ﷺ said (the third time), "And to those who get their hair cut short." Nafiʿ said that the Prophet ﷺ had said once or twice, "O Allah! Be merciful to those who get their head shaved," and on the fourth time he added, "And to those who have their hair cut short."

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah! Forgive those who get their heads shaved." The people asked. "Also those who get their hair cut short?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Allah! Forgive those who have their heads shaved." The people said, "Also those who get their hair cut short?" The Prophet (invoke Allah for those who have their heads shaved and) at the third time said, "also (forgive) those who get their hair cut short."

O Allah, have mercy upon those who get their heads shaved. They (the Companions) said: Messenger of Allah, (what about those) who have got their hair clipped? Thereupon he said: (O Allah, have mercy upon those) who have got their hair clipped.

That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O Allah, have mercy on those who have themselves shaved. The people said: Messenger of Allah, and those who have clipped their hair. He again said: O Allah, have mercy on those who have themselves shaved. The people said: Messenger of Allah, those who have clipped their hair. He said: and those who clip their hair.  

أبو داود:١٩٧٩ – حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ

“O Allah, forgive those who shave (their heads).” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, and those who cut (their hair)?’ He said; “O Allah, forgive those who shave (their heads),” three times. ابن ماجة:٣٠٤٤ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي الْحَوَارِيِّ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

He replied, 'O Allah, forgive those who shave their heads.' The man asked again, 'And what about those who trim their hair?' He said, 'In the third or fourth group, and also forgive those who trim their hair.'"  

أحمد:١٨٥٩ – حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

O Allah, grant pardon to those who got their heads shaved. They (Companions of the Holy Prophet) said: Messenger of Allah, (what about those) who get their hair cut? That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O Allah, have mercy on those who have themselves shaved. The people said: Messenger of Allah, and those who have clipped their hair. ابن حبّان:٣٨٨٠ – أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُحَلِّقِينَ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ وَلِلْمُقَصِّرِينَ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُحَلِّقِينَ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ وَلِلْمُقَصِّرِينَ فَقَالَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ أَوِ الرَّابِعَةِ «وَلِلْمُقَصِّرِينَ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah have mercy on those who shave their heads." They asked, "What about those who trim their hair, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied after a while, "And those who trim their hair as well."
