قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to a man at al-Baqi' while he was cupping on the 18th of Ramadan ; he (the Prophet) was holding my hand. Thereupon he said: A man who cups and a man who gets himself cupped break their fast. Abu Dawud said: The narrator Khalid al-Hadhdha' transmitted a similar tradition from Abu Qilabah through a different chain of narrators mentioned by the narrator Ayyub.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَتَى عَلَى رَجُلٍ بِالْبَقِيعِ وَهُوَ يَحْتَجِمُ وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بِيَدِي لِثَمَانَ عَشْرَةَ خَلَتْ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
The Prophet ﷺ as saying: A man who cups and a man who gets himself cupped break their fast.
أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
The Prophet ﷺ as saying: A man who cups and a man who gets himself cupped break their fast. Abu Dawud said: Ibn Thawban transmitted a similar tradition from his father on the authority of Makhul through an chain of narrators mentioned by him.
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
The Prophet said: "The cupper and the one cupped have broke the fast."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
‘The cupper and the one for whom cupping is done both break their fast.”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
“I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: ‘The cupper and the one for whom cupping is done both break their fast.’”
سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] I accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the eighteenth night of the month of Ramadan, and I saw a man shaving his head. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The one who is shaving his head and the one who has his head shaved have broken their fast."
مَرَرْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي ثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ خَلَتْ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَأَبْصَرَ رَجُلًا يَحْتَجِمُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ»
[AI] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was walking in Al-Baqi' when he saw a man getting cupping (hijama) done. He said, "The person getting cupping done and the person doing the cupping have broken their fast." Abu Muhammad said, "I fear getting cupping done while fasting in Ramadan."
قَالَ بَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَمْشِي بِالْبَقِيعِ فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ يَحْتَجِمُ فَقَالَ «أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ» قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد «أَنَا أَتَّقِي الْحِجَامَةَ فِي الصَّوْمِ فِي رَمَضَانَ»
The Prophet said: "The cupper and the one cupped have broke the fast." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 774)
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Joseph was given half of all beauty."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أُعْطِيَ يُوسُفُ شَطْرَ الْحُسْنِ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] I was told by someone from the people of Basra, among them was Al-Hasan, from Ma'qil bin Sinan Al-Ashja'i, that he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by me while I was observing ihtikaam (voluntary isolation) for eighteen nights that had passed from the month of Ramadan. He (the Prophet) said: "The one observing ihtikaam has broken the fast for both himself and the one he is observing ihtikaam with."
حَدَّثَنِي نَفَرٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَصْرَةِ مِنْهُمُ الْحَسَنُ عَنْ مَعْقِلِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَرَّ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا أَحْتَجِمُ فِي ثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ لَيْلَةً خَلَتْ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] The Prophet ﷺ passed by a person while he was observing Ihtikam (staying in seclusion at the mosque for worship) for eighteen days, and he said, "The one observing Ihtikam has broken his fast."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِ وَهُوَ يَحْتَجِمُ لِثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ فقَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "I am Muhammad, Ahmad, Al-Hashir, Al-Mahi, Al-Khatim, and Al-Aqib."
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ أَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ وَأَحْمَدُ وَالْحَاشِرُ وَالْمَاحِي وَالْخَاتِمُ وَالْعَاقِبُ
[AI] "He (the narrator) mentioned that he was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the time of the conquest (of Mecca), and they passed by a man who had been observing I'tikaf in Al-Baqi' for eighteen days of Ramadan, while still in I'tikaf. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'The person observing I'tikaf and the menstruating woman are both fasting.'"
أَنَّهُ مَرَّ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْفَتْحِ عَلَى رَجُلٍ يَحْتَجِمُ بِالْبَقِيعِ لِثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ خَلَتْ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ وَهُوَ آخِذٌبِيَدِي فَقَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ أَفْطَرَالْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] I passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for eighteen consecutive nights that passed from Ramadan, and he saw a man shaving his head. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The person shaving his head and the one getting his head shaved have broken their fast."
مَرَرْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي ثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ لَيْلَةً خَلَتْ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَأَبْصَرَ رَجُلًا يَحْتَجِمُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] "While I was walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in some streets of the city, eighteen days have passed from Ramadan, and he was holding my hand. Then, we passed by a man who was shaving his head, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The one who is getting his head shaved and the one who is performing the Hajj can break their fast.'"
بَيْنَمَا أَنَا أَمْشِي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ طُرُقِ الْمَدِينَةِ لِثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ مَضَتْ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بِيَدِي فَمَرَّ عَلَى رَجُلٍ يَحْتَجِمُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] I was with the Prophet ﷺ in Medina. He said, "That was during the eighteenth day of Ramadan, and I saw a man shaving his head (indicating the completion of Hajj). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The Hajji (the one performing Hajj) and the Muhrim (the one in the state of Ihram) have broken their fast.'"
كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِالْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ وَذَاكَ لِثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ خَلَوْنَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَأَبْصَرَ رَجُلًا يَحْتَجِمُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a man who was having cupping therapy during Ramadan, so he said, "The one who is having cupping therapy and the one who is being cupped have broken their fast."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِرَجُلٍ يَحْتَجِمُ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by me while I was observing I'tikaf during the last eighteen nights of Ramadan. He said, "The one observing I'tikaf and the one providing him shelter both have broken their fasts."
مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَيَّ وَأَنَا أَحْتَجِمُ فِي ثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ خَلَوْنَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came across a man who was performing the ritual of Ihram in Al-Baqi for eighteen days of Ramadan while holding my hand, and he said, "The one who performs the ritual of Ihram and the one who does Al-Mahjoon (partially shaving the head and leaving the rest of the hair) should break their fast."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَتَى عَلَى رَجُلٍ يَحْتَجِمُ فِي الْبَقِيعِ لِثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ خَلَتْ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بِيَدِي فَقَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
I heard the Prophet, saying, "I am your predecessor at the Lake-Fount. (Al-Kauthar) . (Using translation from Bukhārī 6589)
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ أَنَا فَرَطُكُمْ عَلَى الْحَوْضِ
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say. . . He then mentioned the tradition to the same effect. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4492)
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ فَذَكَرَهُ
[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , saying: "Indeed, Cupping is among the best of your treatments."
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّ مِنْ خَيْرِ دَوَائِكُمُ الْحِجَامَةَ
This tradition has also been transmitted by Sa'd (b. Abi Waqqas) from the Prophet ﷺ in a similar manner through a different chain of narrators. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1470)
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمُسْتَحْجِمُ
[AI] Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The person who uses a tooth-stick (miswak) and performs cupping (hijama) has broken his fast."
عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came across a man who was getting a haircut during Ramadan. He said, "The one getting a haircut and the one who is giving the haircut have broken their fast."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَتَى عَلَى رَجُلٍ يَحْتَجِمُ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] Narrated by Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by Al-Baqi' on the eighteenth night that remained from Ramadan and he saw a man who was applying henna. So he said, "Has the person applying henna broken his fast, and the one it was applied to?"
عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْبَقِيعِ فِي ثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ لَيْلَةً خَلَتْ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ بِرَجُلٍ يَحْتَجِمُ فَقَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ
[AI] It was narrated from Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The one who performs Hijama (cupping therapy) and the one who gets it done have broken their fast."
غَنْمٍعَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ

[AI] We were with Abu Hurairah when Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib came to us and greeted us with peace. We returned the greeting, but Abu Hurairah did not notice him. So we said to him, "O Abu Hurairah, Hasan ibn Ali greeted us with peace." He followed him and said, "And peace be upon you, my master." Then he said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'He is a master.'"
كُنَّا مَعَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فَجَاءَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ عَلَيْنَا فَسَلَّمَ فَرَدَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ وَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِهِ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ فَقُلْنَا لَهُ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ هَذَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَدْ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْنَا فَلَحِقَهُ وَقَالَ وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ يَا سَيِّدِي ثُمَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّهُ سَيِّدٌ»
[AI] "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Talhah has become obligated.'"
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «أَوْجَبَ طَلْحَةُ»
[AI] "While I was walking with the Prophet ﷺ in the eighteenth night of Ramadan, an interruption came and he saw a man shaving his head. He ﷺ said, 'The one who is shaving his head and the one who is getting his head shaved have broken their fasts.'"
بَيْنَمَا أَنَا أَمْشِي مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي ثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ خَلَتْ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ إِذْ حَانَتْ مِنْهُ الْتِفَاتَةٌ فَأَبْصَرَ رَجُلًا يَحْتَجِمُ فَقَالَ ﷺ «أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , say, "The city was named Tabah."
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «سُمِّيَ الْمَدِينَةُ طَابَةَ»
