13. Book of Fasting
[Machine] He said: While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was walking in Al-Baqi' during Ramadan, he saw a man who was shaving his head. he (the Prophet) said: "The one who shaves his head and the one who has his head shaved are breaking their fast." This is a clear chain of narrators, including the transmission of the narrators who reported it and the trustworthy ones who confirmed it. It cannot be criticized by any difference among those who were deemed weak by Abi Qilabah and others. And according to Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, there is another sound chain of narration regarding it, according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Hājim (a person who uses cupping for treatment) and the Mahjūm (a person whose head is shaved) break their fast." In the narration of Ishāq al-Dabari, it mentions the Mustahjim (a person who administers cupping) as well. Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ishāq said in his narration, "I heard al-‘Abbās ibn ‘Abd al-‘Azīm say, 'I heard ‘Ali ibn al-Madīni say, 'I do not know of any hadith more authentic than this one.'" Mu‘āwiyah ibn Salām followed up with a narration from Yahyā ibn Abī Kathīr.
[Machine] "Regarding the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it, the seeker of this knowledge should know that both chains of narration for Yahya Ibn Abi Kathir have been ruled as authentic, one by Ahmad Ibn Hanbal and the other by Ali Ibn Madini. Therefore, one should not use one ruling to criticize the other. Additionally, Ishaq Ibn Ibrahim al-Hanzali has ruled the hadith of Shaddad Ibn Aws as authentic."
[Machine] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a man in Al-Baqi' who was wrapping himself, and it was eighteen days into Ramadan, he said, 'The person who performs Hijamah (cupping) and the person who has it done for him have broken their fast.' I heard Muhammad ibn Salih saying that he heard Ahmad ibn Salamah saying that he heard Ishaq ibn Ibrahim saying, 'This is a sound chain of narration, supported by evidence. And this hadith has been confirmed by its chains. Abu Ya'qub, may Allah be pleased with him, has approved its authenticity based on a hadith that is clearly reliable.' He said, 'Both Thurayyi and Shu'bah agree on narrating it from Asim Al-Ahwal from Abu Qilabah in the same manner.'"
[Machine] The messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, passed by Ma'qil ibn Yasir in the morning of the eighteenth day of Ramadan while he was performing ihtikaam (a form of voluntary fasting where one continues fasting from the previous day without breaking it). The messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, "The one who is performing ihtikaam has broken his fast, as well as the one who has been restrained."
