13. Book of Fasting
[Machine] "That they should neither stand nor fast, then a Bedouin from the Harra came and testified that he saw the crescent moon. So the Prophet ﷺ ordered Bilal to make the call for the people to stand and fast. Al-Bukhari referenced the narrations of Ikrimah, while Muslim referenced the narrations of Simak ibn Harb and Hammad ibn Salamah in support of this hadith, which is authentic and was not rejected by them."
[Machine] I entered upon Ikrimah on the day where there was uncertainty about Ramadan, and he was eating. So he said, "Come closer and eat." I said, "Indeed, I am fasting." He said, "By Allah, you will still eat." I said, "Inform me then." He said, "Ibn Abbas narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do not fast until you see the month (i.e., the crescent moon), and do not break your fast until you see it. But if it is cloudy or overcast and you cannot see it, then complete the count of thirty days.'"
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Observe the crescent moon of Sha'ban for the sighting of Ramadan." It is an authentic narration according to the conditions set by Muslim, and it was not contradicted.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Dawn is of two types. As for the first type, it does not prohibit eating nor permit prayer. And as for the second type, it prohibits eating and permits prayer."
The Adhan of Bilal should not mislead you nor the whiteness (of the pillar) of dawn, for it is not the whiteness of the true dawn, but that of the false dawn which is vertical like a pillar and you can eat food till the streaks of whiteness spread like it. (Using translation from Muslim 1094b)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, "Seek help in fasting during the day with the Sahur (pre-dawn meal), and seek help in standing for prayer at night with the Qaylulah (midday nap)." Zam'ah ibn Salih and Salamah ibn Wahram are not unreliable narrators, as they can be referred to. However, the two Sheikh's did not exclude them and this is one of the hidden gems in this hadith in this regard.
The Prophet ﷺ said: When any of you hears the summons to prayer while he has a vessel in his hand, he should not lay it down till he fulfils his need. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2350)
"Messenger of Allah vomited [so he broke fast] so he performed Wudu." So I met Thawban in a Masjid in Damascus, and I mentioned that to him. He said: 'He told the truth, I poured the water for his Wudu." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 87)
