If I had not heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "You should not long for death," I would have longed (for it).

أَنَسٌ ؓ لَوْلاَ أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ لاَ تَتَمَنَّوُا الْمَوْتَ لَتَمَنَّيْتُ

Abdullah ibn AbuBakr reported that he heard Urwah say: I entered upon Marwan ibn al-Hakam. We mentioned things that render the ablution void. Marwan said: Does it become void by touching the penis? Urwah replied: This I do not know. Marwan said: Busrah daughter of Safwan reported to me that she heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: He who touches his penis should perform ablution. أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «يَتَوَضَّأُ الرَّجُلُ مِنْ مَسِّ الذَّكَرِ»

I do not eat while reclining. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3769)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا آكُلُ مُتَّكِئًا»

the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whoever is silent, he is saved.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ صَمَتَ نَجَا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you should say that I am superior to Yunus bin Matta."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَا يَقُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

“I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘No one of you should die except thinking positively of Allah.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4167)

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَا يَمُوتَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَّا وَهُوَ يُحْسِنُ الظَّنَّ بِاللهِ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "A person is with the one they love."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الْعَبْدُ مَعَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The one who fasts."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ السَّائِمَةُ

[AI] I entered the mosque in Damascus and saw people gathered and a sheikh speaking to them. I asked, "Who is this?" They said, "He is Sahl ibn al-Hanzaliyyah." I heard him saying, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever eats meat, let him perform ablution.'"

دَخَلْتُ مَسْجِدَ دِمَشْقَ فَرَأَيْتُ أُنَاسًا مُجْتَمِعِينَ وَشَيْخًا يُحَدِّثُهُمْ قُلْتُ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالُوا سَهْلُ ابْنُ الْحَنْظَلِيَّةِ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَكَلَ لَحْمًا فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ

“I am fasting.” ‘Uthman said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Fasting is a shield against the Fire just like the shield of anyone of you against fighting.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1639)

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الصِّيَامُ جُنَّةٌ مِنَ النَّارِ كَجُنَّةِ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنَ الْقِتَالِ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "Fasting is a shield from the punishment of Allah, just like a shield from fighting for one of you. And fasting is considered good for three days of every month."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ مِنْ عَذَابِ اللهِ كَجُنَّةِ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنَ الْقِتَالِ وَصِيَامٌ حَسَنٌ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا رُقْيَةَ إِلَّا مِنْ عَيْنٍ أَوْ حُمَةٍ

"No Ruqyah except for the (evil) eye and the scorpion sting." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2057)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَا رُقْيَةَ إِلَّا مِنْ عَيْنٍ أَوْ حُمَةٍ

“Being honorable is wealth and noble character is piety.’ (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4219)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْحَسَبُ الْمَالُ وَالْكَرَمُ التَّقْوَى

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "None of you should seize the belongings of his brother and kill him."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَتَعَاطَى أَحَدُكُمْ أَسِيرَ أَخِيهِ فَيَقْتُلَهُ

This tradition has also been transmitted by Sa'd (b. Abi Waqqas) from the Prophet ﷺ in a similar manner through a different chain of narrators. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1470)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The date and the rock are from Paradise."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الْعَجْوَةُ وَالصَّخْرَةُ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Dates and rocks are from Paradise."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الْعَجْوَةُ وَالصَّخْرَةُ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ

"I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'Whoever touches his sexual organ then let him perform ablution." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 481)

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ مَسَّ فَرْجَهُ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ

[AI] I entered the mosque of Damascus and saw people gathered and a sheikh speaking to them. I asked, "Who is this?" They said, "This is Sahel ibn Al-Hanzaliyyah." So I listened to him saying, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever eats meat, let him perform ablution.'"

دَخَلْتُ مَسْجِدَ دِمَشْقَ فَرَأَيْتُ نَاسًا مُجْتَمِعِينَ وَشَيْخٌ يُحَدِّثُهُمْ قُلْتُ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالُوا هَذَا سَهْلُ ابْنُ الْحَنْظَلِيَّةِ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَكَلَ لَحْمًا فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ

I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: The tale-bearer shall not enter Paradise. (Using translation from Muslim 105a)

َقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ نَمَّامٌ

his father said: I heard Messenger of Allah saying: "There are no two Witr in one night." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 470)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا وِتْرَانِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allegiance belongs to those who have been freed."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْوَلَاءُ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ

It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Messenger of Allah forbade celibacy. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3213)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ التَّبَتُّلِ

[AI] I heard the Prophet ﷺ say in one Rak'ah of the night prayer, "There is no deity except You."

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ فِي رَكْعَةٍ مِنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Loyalty belongs to those who free slaves."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْوَلَاءُ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying something similar to that.

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you are invited to a wedding feast, you must go to it."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى وَلِيمَةٍ فَلْيَأْتِهَا

Ibn ‘Umar reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying; Do not prevent your women from visiting the mosque; but their houses are better for them (for praying). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 567)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا تَمْنَعُوا نِسَاءَكُمُ الْمَسَاجِدَ وَبُيُوتُهُنَّ خَيْرٌ لَهُنَّ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you should neglect his prayer, even if it is with an arrow."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَيَسْتُرْ أَحَدُكُمْ صَلَاتَهُ وَلَوْ بِسَهْمٍ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Odd numbers for prayers of Witr are either five, three, or one."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «الْوِتْرُ خَمْسٌ أَوْ ثَلَاثٌ أَوْ وَاحِدَةٌ»

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you wakes up in the morning and has not performed the Witr prayer, let them perform it."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا أَصْبَحَ أَحَدُكُمْ وَلَمْ يُوتِرْ فَلْيُوتِرْ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Witr (odd-numbered prayers) is a right, so whoever does not perform Witr is not among us."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «الْوِتْرُ حَقٌّ فَمَنْ لَمْ يُوتِرْ فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا»

“Being honorable is wealth and noble character is piety.’ (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4219)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «الْحَسَبُ الْمَالُ وَالْكَرَمُ التَّقْوَى»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you should prevent his neighbor from fixing a peg on his wall."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا يَمْنَعَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ جَارَهُ أَنْ يَغْرِزَ خَشَبَةً عَلَى جِدَارِهِ»

None of you should make another one stand in the meeting and then occupy his place. (Using translation from Muslim 2177a)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا يُقِيمَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ رَجُلًا مِنْ مَجْلِسِهِ ثُمَّ يَجْلِسُ فِيهِ»

I heard Allah's Apostle ﷺ as saying three days before his death: None of you should court death but only hoping good from Allah (Using translation from Muslim 2877a)

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ بِثَلَاثٍ «لَا يَمُوتَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَّا وَهُوَ يُحْسِنُ بِاللَّهِ الظَّنَّ»

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say three days before his death: No one of you dies but he had good faith in Allah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3113)

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ بِثَلَاثٍ «لَا يَمُوتَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَّا وَهُوَ يُحْسِنُ الظَّنَّ بِاللَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allahﷺ said, "Whoever waits for prayer is considered to be in prayer as long as he does not do anything to nullify it."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنِ انْتَظَرَ الصَّلَاةَ فَهُوَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ مَا لَمْ يُحْدِثْ»

[AI] He said, "I have never prayed with anyone performing a shorter or more complete prayer than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."

أَنَّهُ قَالَ «مَا صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ أَحَدٍ أَوْجَزَ صَلَاةٍ وَلَا أَكْمَلَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Recite Surah Yasin upon your deceased."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اقْرَءُوا عَلَى مَوْتَاكُمْ يس»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you cremate the deceased, then perform the odd-numbered prayer."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا جَمَّرْتُمُ الْمَيِّتَ فَأَوْتِرُوا»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Fasting is a shield, like a shield of one of you in battle." And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Fasting for three days every month is a good deed."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «الصِّيَامُ جُنَّةٌ كَجُنَّةِ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنَ الْقِتَالِ» وَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «صِيَامٌ حَسَنٌ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ»

when one of you is invited for a wedding feast, he must attend it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3736)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الْوَلِيمَةِ فَلْيَأْتِهَا»

None of you should use the word al-harin (for grape) for the heart of a believer is karm (worthy of respect). (Using translation from Muslim 2247d)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا يَقُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمُ الْكَرْمُ فَإِنَّ الْكَرْمَ قَلْبُ الْمُؤْمِنِ»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever humiliates the Quraysh, Allah will humiliate him."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ أَهَانَ قُرَيْشًا أَهَانَهُ اللَّهُ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Exercise patience and you will gain more forbearance."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَعْتِمُوا تَزْدَادُوا حِلْمًا»
