" عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ: بَالَ جَرِيرٌ وَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: أتَفْعَلُ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: وَمَا يَمْنَعُنِى قَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ يَفْعَلُهُ".

Then he performed ablution and passed his (wet) hands over his Khuffs (socks made from thick fabric or leather), stood up and prayed. He was asked about it. He replied that he had seen the Prophet ﷺ doing the same." They approved of this narration as Jarir was one of those who embraced Islam very late.
رَأَيْتُ جَرِيرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بَالَ ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى فَسُئِلَ فَقَالَ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَنَعَ مِثْلَ هَذَا
Jarir urinated, then performed ablution and wiped over the socks. It was said to him: Do you do like this? He said: Yes, I saw that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ urinated, then performed ablution and then wiped over his shoes. A'mash said: Ibrahim had observed that this hadith was a surprise for them (the people) because Jarir had embraced Islam after the revelation of Surat al-Ma'ida.
بَالَ جَرِيرٌ ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ فَقِيلَ تَفْعَلُ هَذَا فَقَالَ نَعَمْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَالَ ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ قَالَ الأَعْمَشُ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ كَانَ يُعْجِبُهُمْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لأَنَّ إِسْلاَمَ جَرِيرٍ كَانَ بَعْدَ نُزُولِ الْمَائِدَةِ
"Are you wiping (over you Khuffs)?" He said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping (over his Khuffs)." The companions of 'Abdullah liked what Jarir said, because Jarir became Muslim shortly before the Prophet ﷺ died.

"I saw Jarir bin 'Abdullah performing Wudu and he wiped over his Khuff. I asked him about that. He replied, 'I saw 'I saw Messenger of Allah performing Wudu and he wiped over his Khuff.' So I said to him, before Surah AI-Ma'idah (was revealed) or after AI-Ma'idah?' So he replied, 'I did not acceot Islam until after Al-Ma'idah.'"
رَأَيْتُ جَرِيرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أَقَبْلَ الْمَائِدَةِ أَمْ بَعْدَ الْمَائِدَةِ فَقَالَ مَا أَسْلَمْتُ إِلاَّ بَعْدَ الْمَائِدَةِ
I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping over his leather slippers (when doing wudoo’). (Using translation from Aḥmad 216)
«رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَالَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ»
[Machine] Bilal jarir wiped his shoes, so a group found fault in him and said, "This happened before the meal." He said, "I did not convert except after the meal was sent down, and I did not see the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , wiping except after it came down."
بَالَ جَرِيرٌ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ فَعَابَ عَلَيْهِ قَوْمٌ فَقَالُوا إِنَّ هَذَا كَانَ قَبْلَ الْمَائِدَةِ قَالَ «مَا أَسْلَمْتُ إِلَّا بَعْدَ مَا أُنْزِلَتِ الْمَائِدَةُ وَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَمْسَحُ إِلَّا بَعْدَ مَا نَزَلَتْ»
[Machine] Jareer rushed to perform ablution and wiped over his socks. One of the people criticized him for doing so, to which Jareer replied, "If I do this, it is because I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do it."
«بَالَ جَرِيرٌ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ» فَعَابَ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ جَرِيرٌ «إِنْ أَفْعَلَ فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَلَ هَذَا»
It was narrated from Ja'far bin 'Amr bin Umayyah Ad-Damri that his father saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performing Wudu' and wiping over his Khuffs. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 119)
«أَنَّهُ رَأَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ»
[Machine] Bala Jarir then performed ablution and wiped over his socks. I said to him, "Are you doing this even though you have already performed ablution?" He replied, "Indeed, I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution and wipe over his socks."

[Machine] Baalah Jarirun fatawadda wa masaha 'ala khuffayh. Wa qala "Ra'aitu Rasulullahi sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam yaf'aluhu."
«بَالَ جَرِيرٌ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ» وَقَالَ «رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَفْعَلُهُ»
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ performed ablution and wiped over his socks.

He replied, "Yes, I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do the same, he performed ablution and wiped over his socks." Ibrahim said, "This narration amazed them because the Islam of Jarir came after the revelation of the verse of wiping over the socks."

[Machine] Jareer performed ablution (wudhu) from a purification place and wiped over his slippers. They asked him, "Do you wipe over your slippers?" He replied, "Indeed, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping over his slippers, and this narration amazed the companions of Abdullah ibn Mas'ood. They said, "Verily, Jareer embraced Islam after the revelation of the verse about wiping over the slippers."
