[Machine] Indeed, the people of desires are the people of misguidance, and I do not see their destination except to the Fire. So test them, for none of them adopts a statement or speaks a hadith except that the matter disagrees with the sword. And indeed, hypocrisy is of different types. Then recite, "And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, [saying], 'If He should give us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity, and we will surely be among the righteous.' " [Surah At-Tawbah, verse 75] "And among them are those who ridicule you in [the matter of] charities. But if they are given from them, they approve, but if they are not given from them, at once they become angry." [Surah At-Tawbah, verse 58] "And among them are those who harm the Prophet and say, 'He is an ear.' Say, 'He is an ear of goodness for you; believe in Allah and His Messenger and the light which We have sent down.' " [Surah At-Tawbah, verse 61] So their statements differed and they gathered in doubt and denial, and indeed, these people differed in their statements and gathered around the sword. And I do not see their destination except to the Fire. Hammad said, and then Ayub said, in the presence of this narration or in the presence of the first one, and he, by Allah, was one of the scholars possessing understanding, meaning Abu Qilabah.
0.17 [Machine] Caution in answering that which is not found in the book or the sunnah.
[Machine] "Regarding something from the book of Allah, which we know, we inform you about it, or regarding a practice from the Prophet of Allah ﷺ , we inform you about it; we have no power over what you have created."
[Machine] Abdullah did not deliver a sermon in Kufa except that I witnessed it, so I heard him on a day when he was asked about a man who divorces his wife eight times and similar cases. He said, "He is as I said." Then he said, "Verily, Allah has revealed His Book and made its meaning clear. So whoever acts upon a matter based on what is apparent to him, then it has been made clear to him. And whoever goes against it, then by Allah, we cannot bear your opposition."
[Machine] I witnessed Abdullah and a man and a woman came to him in a forbidden place. He said, "Indeed, Allah has made it clear, so whoever goes against the command from His face, it is already made clear. And by Allah, we cannot bear your opposition."
[Machine] "He would not express his opinion except something he heard."
[Machine] I heard Ibrahim say his opinion about something never.
[Machine] "What I said in my opinion thirty years ago," said Abu Hilal forty years ago.
[Machine] He was told, "Why don't you express your opinion about it?" He replied, "Indeed, I feel ashamed before Allah, the Almighty, to be judged on Earth based on my own opinion."
[Machine] In my opinion and belief, I value that more. By Allah, I'd rather express my sincerity than inform you of my opinion.
[Machine] "Beware of practicing usury, and I swear by Him in whose hand is my soul, if you engage in usury, you will make the forbidden permissible, and you will make the permissible forbidden. However, you have not yet learned from the companions of Muhammad ﷺ . So, follow their teachings."
[Machine] "Abdullah, whoever divorces as Allah has commanded, Allah has clearly explained divorce. And whoever takes upon himself [the responsibility], we will clothe him with it. And Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. And we will hold him accountable for it, just as you say."
[Machine] "To know the right of Allah upon him is better for him than saying what he does not know."
[Machine] "We swear by Allah that we do not know everything that you ask about. Even if we knew and kept it hidden, there would be no benefit in concealing it from you."
[Machine] "I am not in need of consultation, nor am I a person of importance."
[Machine] "Regarding something that you do not possess, and your father was an imam, he said, 'What is more severe than that in the sight of Allah, and in the sight of those who understand from Allah, is to give a fatwa (religious ruling) without knowledge or to convey information without trustworthiness.'"
[Machine] Whenever a matter was brought to them in which there was no evidence from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they would gather and unanimously agree based on what they had seen. The truth is in what they have observed.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not hasten in calamity before its occurrence. If you do not hasten it before its occurrence, the Muslims will not cease to be successful. And when it descends on them, there are those who say, 'May he be blessed and guided.' But if you hasten it, your opinions will differ amongst yourselves, and you will be affected like this and like that." He indicated with his hand, pointing to his right and left.
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ was asked about a matter that occurs which is not in a book or a Sunnah, he said, "The pious believers will consider it."
[Machine] About things I don't know what they are, and even if we knew them, we would not hide them from you.
[Machine] Indeed, there will come people who will argue with you about the doubts of the Quran, so take them by the Sunnah. Surely, the people of the Sunnah are more knowledgeable about the Book of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious.
[Machine] "The matter of the Children of Israel remains moderate, without any issue, until women from other nations gave birth to children from men of the Children of Israel. They then started offering their opinions, leading them astray."

[Machine] About this matter, was it so? If they say yes, it has happened in it according to the one who knows and the one who sees. And if they say no, he says leave it until it comes to be.
[Machine] Was this afterwards? They said no, he said let us wait until it becomes (apparent). So when it becomes (apparent), we will share it with you.
[Machine] "The age of the Prophet upon him be peace, on the pulpit saying, 'I am embarrassed by Allah to be asked about something that does not exist, for Allah has made clear what exists.'"
[Machine] I have never seen a people better than the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They would only ask him about thirteen matters until they were all mentioned in the Quran. Among them were the verses: "{They ask you about the sacred month}" [Al-Baqarah 217] and "{They ask you about menstruation}" [Al-Baqarah 222]. He said, "They would only ask about what would benefit them."
[Machine] To whom I have found from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , most of them preceded before me, and I have not seen a people with a easier lifestyle and less harshness than them.
[Machine] About a woman who died among a people who had no guardian. He said, "I have come to understand a people who did not strengthen your restrictions and did not ask about your affairs."
[Machine] What do you do with matters? I said, "If it weren't for matters, knowledge would be lost." He said, "Do not say that knowledge is lost. Indeed, knowledge does not get lost when the Quran is recited, but if you were to say that jurisprudence is lost."
[Machine] O people! We do not know if we may command you with things that are forbidden for you, or prevent you from things that are permissible for you. Indeed, the last verse revealed from the Qur'an was about interest (usury), and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not clarify it for us until he passed away. So, leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt.
0.19 [Machine] Who liked chivalry and disliked arrogance and ostentation
[Machine] I left Abraham's place and was received by Hammad. He handed me eight questions, so I asked him and he answered four of them and left four unanswered.
[Machine] "About something that I have no knowledge of from the common people."
[Machine] "When something bothered Al-Sha'bi, he would be cautious, while Ibrahim used to say, and say, and say. Abu Asim said, Al-Sha'bi was in a better condition with Ibn Awn than with Ibrahim."
[Machine] There is nothing that I have not asked about, but I dislike making the permissible forbidden or the forbidden permissible.
[Machine] That his brother's knowledge was sufficient for him.
[Machine] I asked the common people, "How do you usually respond when you are asked a question?" They said, "Rely on the expert and stay silent until he returns to the beginning."
[Machine] Indeed, the scholar enters between Allah and His servants, so they should seek a way out for themselves.
[Machine] "By Allah, I have never seen anyone who was harsher on those who defied him than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I have never seen anyone who was harsher on him than Abu Bakr. And indeed, I perceive that Umar was the one who had the greatest fear for them or towards them."
[Machine] Yes, "Follow righteousness and uprightness and do not innovate."
[Machine] "As long as he follows the footsteps, he is on the right path."
[Machine] "That his family should be away from you and from unnecessary indulgence, depth and innovation, and you should stick to the old ways."
[Machine] "That you take your companions with knowledge, for surely one of you does not know when he will be in need of it or when he will be in need of what he possesses. Indeed, you will find people who claim to invite you to the Book of Allah, yet they have abandoned it behind their backs. So, you must seek knowledge, and beware of pretentiousness, affectation, unnecessary show, and delving too deeply into matters. And you must hold fast to the ancient teachings."
[Machine] It is said that a man came to the city and started asking about the similarities of the Quran. Umar was informed and he had prepared a bunch of palm branches for him. He asked the man, "Who are you?" The man replied, "I am Abdullah the dyer." Umar took one of the palm branches and hit him with it saying, "I am Abdullah Umar." He continued hitting him until his head started bleeding. The man said, "O Commander of the Believers, that's enough, what I used to find in my head is now gone."

In it are Verses that are entirely clear, they are the foundations of the Book, and others not entirely clear. So, as for those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the truth), they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah (polytheism and trials), and seeking for its hidden meanings, but none knows its hidden meanings save Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: 'We believe in it; the whole of it (clear and unclear Verses) are from our Lord.' And none receive admonition except men of understanding." (3:7) So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When you see those who follow what is not entirely clear thereof, beware of them.'"

[Machine] About some things from the Quran in the armies of the Muslims until he arrived in Egypt, and 'Amr ibn al-As sent it to 'Umar ibn al-Khattab. When the messenger came to him with the book and he read it, he said, "Where is the man?" He said, "He is on the journey." 'Umar said, "I fear that it might have been lost, and you will suffer a severe punishment from me because of it." So he brought it to him, and 'Umar said, "You are a liar." So 'Umar sent for a palm-stick and he beat him with it until he left his back bleeding, then he left him until he recovered. Then he called him to come back, and 'Umar said, "Will you ask for it again?" So 'Umar sent him to Rata'ib from Jarid, and he beat him with it until he left his back bleeding, then he left him until he recovered, then he beat him again until he left his back bleeding. Then 'Umar called him to come back, and he said, "Sabiqh, if you want to kill me, then kill me in an honorable manner. And if you want to treat me, then I swear by Allah that I have already recovered." So 'Umar permitted him to return to his land, and he wrote to Abu Musa al-Ash'ari that no one should sit with him from the Muslims. This intensified on the man, so Abu Musa wrote to 'Umar that his repentance was good. 'Umar wrote back, "Give permission for the people to sit with him."
