“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast ‘Ashura’, and he ordered (others) to fast it too.”  

ابن ماجة:١٧٣٣ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَصُومُ عَاشُورَاءَ وَيَأْمُرُ بِصِيَامِهِ

"The Messenger of Allah ordered fasting the tenth day for the Day of Ashura."  

الترمذي:٧٥٥ – حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِصَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ يَوْمَ الْعَاشِرِ  

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى حَدِيثُ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَقَدِ اخْتَلَفَ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ فِي يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ يَوْمُ التَّاسِعِ وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ يَوْمُ الْعَاشِرِ وَرُوِيَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ صُومُوا التَّاسِعَ وَالْعَاشِرَ وَخَالِفُوا الْيَهُودَ وَبِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ يَقُولُ الشَّافِعِيُّ وَأَحْمَدُ وَإِسْحَاقُ

It was narrated from ʿAli ؓ that The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast on the day of ʿAshoora’ and enjoined others to do so.  

أحمد:١٠٦٩ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَصُومُ عَاشُورَاءَ وَيَأْمُرُ بِهِ

[Machine] He said: The Prophet ﷺ commanded us to fast on the day of Ashura.  

أحمد:١٤٧٥٨ – حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِيَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ أَنْ نَصُومَهُ
