[Machine] Al-Qa'nabi narrated from Malik from Nafi' from Sulaiman bin Yasar from Umm Salama that a woman used to experience prolonged menstruation during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Umm Salama consulted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on her behalf, and he said, "Let her count the number of nights and days that she used to menstruate each month before the current condition befell her. When that duration has passed in the current month, she should refrain from praying for an equivalent number of days. After that, she should perform ghusl (ritual bathing), wear a sanitary garment, and then pray."  

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً كَانَتْ تُهَرَاقُ الدَّمَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَاسْتَفْتَتْ لَهَا أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «لِتَنْظُرْ عِدَّةَ اللَّيَالِيَ وَالْأَيَّامِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ تَحِيضُهُنَّ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصِيبَهَا الَّذِي أَصَابَهَا فَلْتَتْرُكِ الصَّلَاةَ قَدْرَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ فَإِذَا خَلَّفَتْ ذَلِكَ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ ثُمَّ لِتَسْتَثْفِرْ بِثَوْبٍ ثُمَّ لِتُصَلِّي»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to, when he finished praying Asr, go to his house and pray two units (rak'ahs) there.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ «إِذَا صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ يَنْصَرِفُ فَيُصَلِّي فِي بَيْتِهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to be more eager for the noon prayer than you, while you are more lenient towards the afternoon prayer than him.  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَشَدَّ تَعْجِيلًا لِلظُّهْرِ مِنْكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ أَشَدُّ تَأْخِيرًا لِلْعَصْرِ مِنْهُ»  

[Machine] I was with the Prophet ﷺ in a cloth covering and I needed to relieve myself, so he said, "Go back and tighten your waist wrapper and then come back."  

كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي لِحَافٍ فَحِضْتُ فَقَالَ «ارْجِعِي فَشُدِّي عَلَيْكِ إِزَارَكِ ثُمَّ ارْجِعِي»  

[Machine] People sent me to Umm Salama to ask her which days did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fast most frequently. She replied, "Saturday and Sunday." And she said, "They are the days of celebration for the polytheists, and I prefer to differ from them."  

أَرْسَلَنِي نَاسٌ إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَسْأَلُهَا أَيُّ الْأَيَّامِ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَكْثَرَهَا صَوْمًا؟ فَقَالَتْ السَّبْتُ وَالْأَحَدُ وَيَقُولُ «هُمَا يَوْمَا عِيدٍ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ فَأُحِبُّ أَنْ أُخَالِفَهُمْ»  

[Machine] That Asma cried over Ja'far or Hamza three times "So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered her to rinse and adorn herself."  

أَنَّ أَسْمَاءَ بَكَتْ عَلَى جَعْفَرٍ أَوْ حَمْزَةَ ثَلَاثًا «فَأَمَرَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ تَرْقَأَ وَتَكْتَحِلَ»  

[Machine] That the Prophet of Allah ﷺ was sitting in a house with one of his companions and they were talking when a man came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, how much charity is given for such and such amount of dates?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Such and such." The man said, "But so-and-so has crossed the limit with me and has taken this much from me in dates." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him an extra measure and said to him, "What if someone exceeds the limits and transgresses against you even more than this transgression?" The people were amazed by the conversation and were astonished by it, until one of them said, "What if a man is absent from you, his camels, his sheep, and his crops, and he pays the Zakat on his wealth, but his right is violated? What should he do while he is absent from you?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whosoever pays the Zakat on his wealth with a good intention, seeking the face of Allah and the Hereafter, and does not withhold anything from his wealth, and establishes prayers, then pays the Zakat, and his right is violated, and he takes up arms and fights and is killed, he will be a martyr."  

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَا هُوَ يَوْمًا قَائِلٌ فِي بَيْتِهَا وَعِنْدَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يَتَحَدَّثُونَ إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَمْ صَدَقَةُ كَذَا وَكَذَا مِنَ التَّمْرِ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «كَذَا وَكَذَا» قَالَ الرَّجُلُ فَإِنَّ فُلَانًا تَعَدَّى عَلَيَّ فَأَخَذَ مِنِّي كَذَا وَكَذَا مِنَ التَّمْرِ فَازْدَادَ صَاعًا فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فَكَيْفَ إِذَا سَعَى عَلَيْكُمْ مَنْ يَتَعَدَّى عَلَيْكُمْ أَشَدَّ مِنْ هَذَا التَّعَدِّي؟» فَخَاضَ الْقَوْمُ وَبَهَرَهُمُ الْحَدِيثُ حَتَّى قَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ كَيْفَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِذَا كَانَ رَجُلٌ غَائِبٌ عَنْكَ فِي إِبِلِهِ وَمَاشِيَتِهِ وَزَرْعِهِ فَأَدَّى زَكَاةَ مَالِهِ فَتَعَدَّى عَلَيْهِ الْحَقُّ فَكَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ وَهُوَ غَائِبٌ عَنْكَ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ أَدَّى زَكَاةَ مَالِهِ طَيِّبَ النَّفْسِ بِهَا يُرِيدُ بِهَا وَجْهَ اللهِ وَالدَّارَ الْآخِرَةِ فَلَمْ يُغِيبْ شَيْئًا مِنْ مَالِهِ وَأَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ ثُمَّ أَدَّى الزَّكَاةَ فَتَعَدَّى عَلَيْهِ فِي الْحَقِّ فَأَخَذَ سِلَاحًا فَقَاتَلَ فَقُتِلَ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, the one who drinks from a silver vessel is only pouring fire of Hell into their stomach."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الَّذِي يَشْرَبُ فِي إِنَاءِ فِضَّةٍ إِنَّمَا يُجَرْجِرُ فِي بَطْنِهِ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his wives, "The one who shows compassion towards you after me, he is the truthful, righteous one. O Allah, bestow upon Ibn Awf from the best of blessings."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَعْنِي لِأَزْوَاجِهِ «الَّذِي يَحْنُو عَلَيْكُنَّ بَعْدِي لَهُوَ الصَّادِقُ الْبَارُّ اللهُمَّ اسْقِ ابْنَ عَوْفٍ مِنَ السَّلْسَبِيلِ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting in my house one day and he said, "No one should enter upon me." So, I waited and then Hussain entered. I heard the sobbing of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so I looked and saw Hussain in his chamber or by his side, wiping his head and crying. I said, "By Allah, I did not know about him when he entered." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Jibril was in the house and he said to me, 'Do you love him?' I said, 'In this world, yes.' He said, 'Indeed, your Ummah will kill him in a land called Karbala.' So Jibril handed him the soil of that place and I see him now." When Hussain was surrounded and killed, he (the Messenger) asked, "What is the name of this land?" They said, "Karbala." He (the Messenger) said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoke the truth. It is the land of grief and calamity."  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ جَالِسًا ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فِي بَيْتِي فَقَالَ «لَا يَدْخُلْ عَلَيَّ أَحَدٌ» فَانْتَظَرْتُ فَدَخَلَ الْحُسَيْنُ فَسَمِعْتُ نَشِيجَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَبْكِي فَاطَّلَعْتُ فَإِذَا الْحُسَيْنُ فِي حِجْرِهِ أَوْ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ يَمْسَحُ رَأْسَهُ وَهُوَ يَبْكِي فَقُلْتُ وَاللهِ مَا عَلِمْتُهُ حِينَ دَخَلَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ كَانَ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَقَالَ أَتُحِبُّهُ؟ قُلْتُ أَمَّا فِي الدُّنْيَا فَنَعَمْ قَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ سَتَقْتُلُ هَذَا بِأَرْضٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا كَرْبَلَاءُ فَتَنَاوَلَ جِبْرِيلُ مِنْ تُرْبَتِهَا فَأَرَاهُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَلَمَّا أُحِيطَ بِالْحُسَيْنِ حِينَ قُتِلَ قَالَ مَا اسْمُ هَذِهِ الْأَرْضِ؟ قَالُوا كَرْبَلَاءُ قَالَ صَدَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَرْضُ كَرِبٍ وَبَلَاءٍ  

[Machine] There was one container placed for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , about half a saa, and we would all begin by washing ourselves in it.  

كَانَ يُوضَعُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَاءٌ وَاحِدٌ قَدْرَ نِصْفِ الْفَرَقِ فَيَبْدَأُ فِيهِ فَيَغْتَسِلُ أَنَا وَهُوَ جَمِيعًا  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janabah without having had a wet dream, so he would perform ghusl (ritual bath) and continue with his fasting.  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ غَيْرِ احْتِلَامٍ فَيَغْتَسِلُ ثُمَّ يَمْضِي عَلَى صَوْمِهِ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not pray these two prayers with me except once. He entered one day after 'Asr prayer and prayed two units. So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is this prayer that you did not used to pray?" Then, a prayer after 'Asr was revealed. He said: "No, but these two units I used to pray after Dhuhr, but I was occupied from them, so I made up for them."  

مَا صَلَّاهُمَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عِنْدِي إِلَّا مَرَّةً دَخَلَ يَوْمًا بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةُ مَا كُنْتَ تُصَلِّيهَا فَنَزَلَتْ صَلَاةٌ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ قَالَ «لَا وَلَكِنْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ كُنْتُ أُصَلِّيهُمَا بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ فَشُغِلْتُ عَنْهُمَا فَتَدَارَكْتُهُمَا»  

[Machine] Um Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , informed him that when she arrived in Medina, she told them that she was the daughter of Ummaya bin Al-Mughira. However, they accused her of lying and said, "We have never heard of anything stranger than this." Until some of them started going for Hajj and they asked her, "Do you want us to write to your family?" So she wrote with them and they returned to Medina believing her. Their respect for her increased. She said, "When Zainab gave birth, the Prophet ﷺ came to me and proposed to me. I said, 'No one like me should be married, as I have children and I am possessive.' He said, 'I am older than you, and as for possessiveness, Allah will take it away, and as for children, they belong to Allah and His Messenger.' So he married her and would come to her and say, 'Where is Zunab?' Until one day, Ammar bin Yasir came and bothered her, saying, 'She is preventing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from coming to her.' She was breastfeeding her, then the Prophet ﷺ came and said, 'Where is Zunab?' She said, 'Umaya's cousin has taken her.' Ammar bin Yasir took her and the Prophet ﷺ said to them, 'I will come to you tonight.' She said, 'So I got up and put my children to sleep, and I delayed some barley grains that were in a container and brought out some fat and placed it in front of him.' She said, 'The Prophet ﷺ spent the night with me, and in the morning, he said, 'Indeed, you have a virtue over your family. If you wish, I can keep you, and if you wish, I can divorce you for my wives.'"  

أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهَا لَمَّا قَدِمَتِ الْمَدِينَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُمْ أَنَّهَا بِنْتُ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ فَكَذَّبُوهَا وَيَقُولُونَ مَا أَكْذَبَ الْغَرَائِبِ حَتَّى أَنْشَأَ نَاسٌ مِنْهُمْ إِلَى الْحَجِّ فَقَالُوا أَتَكْتُبِينَ إِلَى أَهْلِكِ فَكَتَبَتْ مَعَهُمْ فَرَجَعُوا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ يُصَدِّقُونَهَا وَازْدَادَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ كَرَامَةً قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتْ زَيْنَبُ جَاءَنِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَخَطَبَنِي فَقُلْتُ مَا مِثْلِي تُنْكَحُ أَمَّا أَنَا فَلَا وَلَدَ فِيَّ وَأَنَا غَيُورٌ ذَاتُ عِيَالٍ قَالَ «أَنَا أَكْبَرُ مِنْكِ وَأَمَّا الْغَيْرَةُ فَيُذْهِبُهَا اللهُ وَأَمَّا الْعِيَالُ فَإِلَى اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ» فَتَزَوَّجَهَا فَجَعَلَ يَأْتِيهَا فَيَقُولُ «أَيْنَ زُنَابُ؟» حَتَّى جَاءَ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ يَوْمًا فَاخْتَلَجَهَا وَقَالَ هَذِهِ تَمْنَعُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَكَانَتْ تُرْضِعُهَا فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «أَيْنَ زُنَابُ؟» قَالَتْ قُرَيْبَةُ بِنْتُ أُمَيَّةَ وَوَافَقَهَا عِنْدَهَا أَخَذَهَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَنَا آتِيكُمُ اللَّيْلَةَ» قَالَتْ فَقُمْتُ فَوَضَعْتُ ثِفَالِي وَأَخَّرْتُ حَبَّاتٍ مِنْ شَعِيرٍ كَانَتْ فِي جَرٍّ وَأَخْرَجْتُ شَحْمًا فَعَصَدْتُهُ لَهُ قَالَتْ فَبَاتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَ فَقَالَ حِينَ أَصْبَحَ «إِنَّ بِكِ عَلَى أَهْلِكِ كَرَامَةً فَإِنْ شِئْتِ سَبَّعْتُ وَإِنْ أُسَبِّعْ أُسَبِّعْ لِنِسَائِي»  

[Machine] "When the Prophet ﷺ married her, he said, 'If anyone humiliates you, I will humiliate his wives.'"  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ حِينَ تَزَوَّجَهَا قَالَ «إِنْ أُسَبِّعْ لَكِ أُسَبِّعْ لِنِسَائِي»  

[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ said to her when he entered on her, 'Indeed, through you and your family there is honor upon me, and if I were to entrust anyone, I would entrust my women to you.'"  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لَهَا حِينَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا «إِنَّ بِكِ وَبِأَهْلِكِ عَلَيَّ كَرَامَةً وَإِنِّي إِنْ أُسَبِّعْ لَكِ أُسَبِّعْ لِنِسَائِي»  

[Machine] Al-Qa'nabi reported from Malik from his slave, Rabeeh bin Sa'id, who reported from Abu Bakr bin Abdul Rahman, who reported from Aisha and Umm Salamah, that they said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of Janabah (sexual impurity) without having had any wet dream, and then he would observe fasting.  

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ وَأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ غَيْرِ احْتِلَامٍ ثُمَّ يَصُومُ»  

[Machine] Narrated by Al-Qa'nabi from Malik from Abd Rabih ibn Sa'id from Abu Bakr ibn Abd al-Rahman from Aisha and Umm Salamah, they said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of sexual impurity from intercourse without a wet dream, then he would observe fasting.  

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ وَأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ جِمَاعٍ مِنْ غَيْرِ احْتِلَامٍ ثُمَّ يَصُومُ»  

[Machine] It is narrated that Zainab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , offered refuge to Abu Al-Aas ibn Al-Rabee'. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He offers protection to the Muslims, regardless of their status."  

أَنَّ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَجَارَتْ أَبَا الْعَاصِ بْنَ الرَّبِيعِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُجِيرُ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ أَدْنَاهُمْ»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ stayed with Umm Salama three times when he built with her, then he said, "You are not insignificant to your family, and if I travel, I will travel with my wives."  

مَكَثَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عِنْدَ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ثَلَاثًا حِينَ بَنَى بِهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ «لَيْسَ بِكِ هَوَانٌ عَلَى أَهْلِكِ وَإِنِّي إِنْ أُسَبِّعْ لَكِ أُسَبِّعْ لِنِسَائِي»  

There is no lack of estimation on the part of your husband for you. If you wish I can stay with you for a week, but in case I stay with you for a week, then I shall have to stay for a week with all my wives. (Using translation from Muslim 1460a)  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ لَمَّا تَزَوَّجَ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ أَقَامَ عِنْدَهَا ثَلَاثًا وَقَالَ «إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِكِ عَلَى أَهْلِكِ هَوَانٌ إِنْ شِئْتِ سَبَّعْتُ لَكِ وَإِنْ سَبَّعْتُ لَكِ سَبَّعْتُ لِنِسَائِي»  

[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ used to experience the dawn while in a state of major impurity (janabah) without performing a ritual bath (ghusl), and he would then fast.  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ «يُدْرِكُهُ الْفَجْرُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَلَمْ يَغْتَسِلْ فَيَصُومُ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of ritual impurity from intercourse with women, without having taken a bath, and would continue fasting.  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنَ النِّسَاءِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حُلْمٍ ثُمَّ يَظَلُّ صَائِمًا»  

[Machine] Um Salama, when Abu Salama died in Medina, I said, "I feel a sense of displacement in a foreign land, where I will grieve for him in a way that people will talk about." She said, "Indeed, I felt the same way when a woman from the countryside came to visit me and the Messenger of Allah greeted her saying, 'Do you want to invite the devil into a house from which Allah has already expelled him twice?' So I left her and did not cry."  

أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ لَمَّا مَاتَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ قُلْتُ غَرَبَتْ فِي أَرْضٍ غُرْبَةً لَأَبْكِيَنَّهُ بُكَاءً يُتَحَدَّثُ عَنْهُ قَالَتْ فَإِنِّي لَكَذَلِكَ إِذْ أَتَتْنِي امْرَأَةٌ تُسْعِدُنِي مِنَ الصَّعِيدِ فَاسْتَقْبَلَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «تُرِيدِينَ أَنْ تُدْخِلِي الشَّيْطَانَ بَيْتًا قَدْ أَخْرَجَهُ اللهُ مِنْهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ» قَالَتْ فَتَرَكْتُهُ وَلَمْ أَبْكِهِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I have forbidden you from visiting graves, but now go and visit them, for there are lessons to be learned from them."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ زِيَارَةِ الْقُبُورِ فَزُورُوهَا فَإِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهَا عِبْرَةً»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pause in his recitation when he reached the verse "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Master of the Day of Judgment."  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُقَطِّعُ فِي قِرَاءَتِهِ {بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ} »  

[Machine] She heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Whoever says, 'There is no god but Allah, alone, without partners, has written for him such and such a good deed."  

أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ قَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ كُتِبَ لَهُ كَذَا وَكَذَا حَسَنَةً»  

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, my uncle Hisham ibn Al-Mughirah used to feed the poor, maintain ties of kinship, and do good deeds. If he were to meet you, would he have embraced Islam?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He used to give to this world only and mention it. He never said, 'O Allah, forgive me on the Day of Judgment!'"  

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ عَمِّي هِشَامَ بْنَ الْمُغِيرَةِ كَانَ يُطْعِمُ الطَّعَامَ وَيَصِلُ الرَّحِمَ وَيَفْعَلُ وَيَفْعَلُ فَلَوْ أَدْرَكَكَ لَأَسْلَمَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «كَانَ يُعْطِي لِلدُّنْيَا وَحْدَهَا وَذِكْرِهَا وَمَا قَالَ يَوْمًا قَطُّ اغْفِرْ لِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ»  

[Machine] "Narrated by Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , she said: 'We used to be in the company of the Prophet ﷺ while we were in a state of Ihram (sacral state) and a rider would pass by us. So, one of us would lower her garment from above her head and sometimes she would say it was above the veil.'"  

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ «كُنَّا نَكُونُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ مُحْرِمَاتٌ فَيَمُرُّ بِنَا الرَّاكِبُ فَتَسْدِلُ إِحْدَانَا الثَّوْبَ عَلَى وَجْهِهَا مِنْ فَوْقِ رَأْسِهَا وَرُبَّمَا قَالَتْ مِنْ فَوْقِ الْخِمَارِ»  

[Machine] Umm Salamah said, "O Messenger of Allah, we do not cut off inheritance and we do not wage war, so we become martyrs." So Allah revealed, "{And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you exceed others.}" until the end of the verse. Then He revealed, "{Indeed, I will not allow to be lost the work of any worker among you, whether male or female.}"  

أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَا نُقْطَعُ الْمِيرَاثَ وَلَا نُقَاتِلُ فَنُسْتَشْهَدُ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ {وَلَا تَتَمَنَّوْا مَا فَضَّلَ اللهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ} إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ ثُمَّ نَزَلَتْ {أَنِّي لَا أُضِيعُ عَمَلَ عَامِلٍ مِنْكُمْ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنْثَى}  

[Machine] She wore a necklace with strands of gold in it. The Prophet ﷺ saw her wearing it and disliked it, so he turned away from her and she took it off. He said, "What makes you think that on the Day of Resurrection someone would replace its place with strands of fire?"  

أَنَّهَا لَبِسَتْ قِلَادَةً فِيهَا شُعَيْرَاتٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَرَآهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَكَرِهَهَا فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا فَنَزَعَتْهَا فَقَالَ «مَا يُؤْمِنُكِ أَنْ يُقَلِّدَكِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مَكَانَهَا شَعَرَاتٍ مِنْ نَارٍ»  

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ who said, "Whoever prays four units (rak'ahs) before Asr prayer, Allah will prohibit his body from the Hellfire." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have seen you praying and leaving it." He said, "I am not like any of them."  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ صَلَّى أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ قَبْلَ الْعَصْرِ حَرَّمَ اللهُ بَدَنَهُ عَلَى النَّارِ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَدْ رَأَيْتُكَ تُصَلِّي وَتَدَعُ قَالَ «لَسْتُ كَأَحَدِهِمْ»  

[Machine] Fatimah came to her father with a dish while he was lying down. He said, "Go and call my son and your cousin." She covered them with a garment, then he said, "O Allah, these are the people of my household and my protection. Remove impurity from them and purify them thoroughly." Umm Salamah asked, "Can I be with them, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "You are the wife of the Prophet ﷺ . You may choose to be with me or to do what is best."  

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ جَاءَتْ بِطُعَيْمٍ لَهَا إِلَى أَبِيهَا وَهُوَ عَلَى مَنَامَةٍ لَهُ فَقَالَ «اذْهَبِي فَادْعِي ابْنِي وَابْنَ عَمِّكِ» قَالَتْ فَجَلَّلَهُمْ أَوْ قَالَتْ فَحَوَّلْتُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْكِسَاءَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ هَؤُلَاءِ أَهْلُ بَيْتِي وَحَامَتِي فَأَذْهِبْ عَنْهُمُ الرِّجْسَ وَطَهِّرْهُمْ تَطْهِيرًا» قَالَتْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «أَنْتِ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَإِلَيَّ أَوْ عَلَى خَيْرٍ»  

[Machine] She used to wear golden bracelets, so she asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , "Is this considered a treasure?" He replied, "If you pay its Zakat (obligatory charity), it is not considered a treasure."  

أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ تَلْبَسُ أَوْضَاحًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَسَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَكَنْزٌ هُوَ؟ فَقَالَ «إِذَا أَدَّيْتِ زَكَاتَهُ فَلَيْسَ بِكَنْزٍ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ only prohibited gold. We asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what about musk that is mixed with gold?" He said, "No, unless it is mixed with silver and then tinted with saffron."  

إِنَّمَا نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الذَّهَبِ قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ الْمِسْكُ يُصِيبُ بِالذَّهَبِ؟ قَالَ «لَا إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ بِفِضَّةٍ ثُمَّ الْطِخِيهِ بِزَعْفَرَانٍ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform the Witr prayer with five or seven units, without speaking or making a final salaam in between them.  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُوتِرُ بِخَمْسٍ أَوْ سَبْعٍ لَا يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَهُنَّ بِكَلَامٍ وَلَا تَسْلِيمٍ»  

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ who said, "Whoever wears a garment to show off and seeks to be seen by people, Allah will not look at him until he removes it whenever he removes it."  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ يَلْبَسُ ثَوْبًا لِيُبَاهِيَ بِهِ فَيَنْظُرُ النَّاسُ إِلَيْهِ لَمْ يَنْظُرِ اللهُ إِلَيْهِ حَتَّى يَنْزِعَهُ مَتَى مَا نَزَعَهُ»  

[Machine] From the Prophet, ﷺ , He said: "Whoever learns knowledge to show off to scholars and compete with fools, he is in the Fire."  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْعِلْمَ لِيُبَاهِيَ بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ وَيُمَارِيَ بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ فَهُوَ فِي النَّارِ»  

[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever is afflicted with a dispute between Muslims should not judge while he is angry."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنِ ابْتُلِيَ بِالْقَضَاءِ بَيْنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَلَا يَقْضِيَنَّ وَهُوَ غَضْبَانُ»  

[Machine] Al-Qa'nabi narrated from Malik from Zaid ibn Aslam from 'Ata' ibn Yasar from Umm Salamah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to "kiss while fasting."  

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ «يُقَبِّلُ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever is faced with a dispute among Muslims should seek to reconcile them in that very moment, through gestures, seating, and position."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنِ ابْتُلِيَ بِالْقَضَاءِ بَيْنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَلْيَعْدِلْ بَيْنَهُمْ فِي لَحْظَتِهِ» وَإِشَارَتِهِ وَمَقْعَدِهِ وَمَجْلِسِهِ  

[Machine] "Whoever is tested with a dispute among Muslims should not raise his voice over one of the two opponents, no matter how much he does not raise his voice over the other."  

«مَنِ ابْتُلِيَ بِالْقَضَاءِ بَيْنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَلَا يَرْفَعْ صَوْتَهُ عَلَى أَحَدٍ الْخَصْمَيْنِ مَا لَا يَرْفَعُ عَلَى الْآخَرِ»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not cut bread with a knife as the non-Arabs do. And when one of you wants to eat meat, do not cut it with a knife, but hold it with his hand and tear it with his teeth, as it is more gentle and manly."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «لَا تَقْطَعُوا الْخُبْزَ بِالسِّكِّينِ كَمَا تَقْطَعُهُ الْأَعَاجِمُ وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ اللَّحْمَ فَلَا يَقْطَعْهُ بِالسِّكِّينِ وَلَكِنْ لِيَأْخُذْهُ بِيَدِهِ فَلْيَنْهَشْهُ بِفِيهِ فَإِنَّهُ أَهْنَأُ وَأَمْرَأُ»  

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not smell the food as the animals do."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «لَا تَشُمُّوا الطَّعَامَ كَمَا تَشُمُّهُ السِّبَاعُ»  

[Machine] He informed him that Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet, told him that she had brought a roasted shoulder close to the Messenger of Allah and he ate from it, then he stood up for prayer without performing ablution.  

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخْبَرَتْهُ «أَنَّهَا قَرَّبَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ جَنْبًا مَشْوِيًّا فَأَكَلَ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ»  

[Machine] In my house, this verse was revealed: "Indeed, Allah desires to repel all impurity from you, O people of the household, and purify you completely." So, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn and said, "O Allah, these are my family!" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, am I not part of the family?" He said, "If Allah wills."  

فِي بَيْتِي نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا} فَأَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى فَاطِمَةَ وَحَسَنٍ وَحُسَيْنٍ فَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ أَهْلِي» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَيْتِ قَالَ «إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ»  

[Machine] Marwan sent me to Umm Salamah, so I asked her and she said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me and he had performed ablution, so I handed him a drink or a shoulder and he ate, then he got up to pray without performing ablution again."  

أَرْسَلَنِي مَرْوَانُ إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَسَأَلْتُهَا فَقَالَتْ «أَتَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَدْ تَوَضَّأَ فَنَاوَلْتُهُ عَرْقًا أَوْ كَتِفًا فَأَكَلَ ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ»  

[Machine] "Um Salama was asked about what changed the fire? She said, 'The Prophet ﷺ ate some mutton shoulder, then he prayed without performing ablution.'"  

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ سُئِلَتْ عَمَّا غَيَّرَتِ النَّارُ؟ فَقَالَتْ «أَكَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ كَتِفًا ثُمَّ صَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me after 'Asr prayer and prayed two raka'ahs. So I said, "What are these two raka'ahs, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "I used to pray them before 'Asr prayer, but a group of people came to me and occupied me, so I prayed them now."  

دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقُلْتُ مَا هَاتَانِ الرَّكْعَتَانِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «كُنْتُ أُصَلِّيهُمَا قَبْلَ الْعَصْرِ فَجَاءَنِي قَوْمٌ فَشَغَلُونِي فَصَلَّيْتُهُمَا الْآنَ»  

[Machine] A woman divorced a male servant of hers who was a free man using two divorces. So, Umm Salamah consulted the Prophet ﷺ about this and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is forbidden for her to marry someone other than him."  

أَنَّ غُلَامًا لَهَا طَلَّقَ امْرَأَةً لَهُ حُرَّةً بِتَطْلِيقَتَيْنِ فَاسْتَفْتَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى تَنْكِحَ زَوْجًا غَيْرَهُ»
