[Machine] "Regarding his statement 'and whoever turns away arrogantly from among them, he will have a great punishment', Qatadah said, 'the one who turned away arrogantly is Hassan ibn Thabit and Mistah ibn Uthatha.'"  

عَنْ قَتَادَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ {وَالَّذِي تَوَلَّى كِبْرَهُ مِنْهُمْ لَهُ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ} قَالَ «الَّذِي تَوَلَّى كِبْرَهُ حَسَّانُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ وَمِسْطَحُ بْنُ أُثَاثَةَ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sought their advice concerning her and they said good things. They said, "O Messenger of Allah, this is a lie and falsehood. The believers want Zaynab bint Jahsh, and Barirah, the freed slave of 'Aisha, and all of the Prophet's wives. They said, "This is a great lie."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ اسْتَشَارَ فِيهَا فَقَالُوا خَيْرًا وَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا كَذِبٌ وَزُورٌ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتُ يُرِيدُ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ جَحْشٍ وَبَرِيرَةَ مَوْلَاةَ عَائِشَةَ وَجَمِيعَ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالُوا هَذَا كَذِبٌ عَظِيمٌ  

[Machine] "For among them is Zainab, the daughter of Jahsh, who is a good person in their own right. Indeed, some of them think good of others because they have not seen this. And they say, 'This is a lie.' Indeed, they say, 'This is a clear accusation.'"  

«لِأَنَّ مِنْهُمْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ جَحْشٍ» {بِأَنْفُسِهِمْ خَيْرًا} «أَلَا ظَنَّ بَعْضُهُمْ بِبَعْضٍ خَيْرًا بِأَنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَرَوْا هَذَا» {وَقَالُوا هَذَا إِفْكٌ} أَلَا قَالُوا هَذَا الْقَذْفُ كَذِبٌ بَيِّنٌ؟  

[Machine] About Qatadah's statement, "If you had not heard it," he said, "You would have called it a clear lie. By my life, it is better for you to conceal and keep silent about the evil of your Muslim brother when you hear it, and it is better for you to believe it."  

عَنْ قَتَادَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ {لَوْلَا إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ} «كَذَّبْتُمْ وَقُلْتُمْ هَذَا كَذِبٌ مُبِينٌ وَلَعَمْرِي أَنْ لَا تَكْذِبَ عَنْ أَخِيكَ الْمُسْلِمِ بِالشَّرِّ إِذَا سَمِعْتَهُ خَيْرٌ لَكَ وَأَسْلَمُ مِنْ أَنْ تُذِيعَهُ وَتُفْشِيهِ وَتُصَدِّقُ بِهِ»
