31. Musnad of Women
"Do not compete" meaning do not swear oaths "the people of virtue among you" meaning in wealth "and abundance in provision" meaning Abu Bakr "and let them pardon and overlook" meaning and let them forgive someone who is well-regarded "to give to their near relatives" meaning the near relative Mas'adah ibn Uthatha, for he was a relative of Abu Bakr's maternal cousin because Mas'adah was poor "and to the emigrants in the cause of Allah" because he was one of the emigrants "Do you not love" meaning Abu Bakr "that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful" meaning Forgiving of sins, Merciful towards the believers. So the Prophet ﷺ said to Abu Bakr, "Do you not love that Allah should forgive you?" Abu Bakr replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then pardon and overlook." Abu Bakr said, "I have pardoned and overlooked. I will not prevent him from good after today."
[Machine] From his statement "Indeed, those who accuse chaste, unaware, believing women [of adultery] are cursed in this world and the Hereafter." Every person who accuses a chaste woman is cursed by Allah. He said, "No, rather this verse was revealed regarding the affair of Aisha."
[Machine] "Adultery," I said. Allah says, "Indeed, those who accuse chaste, unaware, believing women..." He said, "This was revealed specifically about Aisha."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ whipped Hassan ibn Thabit, Abdullah ibn Ubayy, Mistah ibn Uthatha, and Hamnah bint Jahsh, each of them with eighty lashes, for accusing Aisha. Subsequently, they repented except for Abdullah ibn Ubayy among the hypocrites, who died as a hypocrite.
[Machine] Salama ibn Nubayt narrated from Dahhak ibn Muzahim who said that this verse was revealed specifically about the wives of the Prophet ﷺ: "Indeed, those who accuse chaste, unaware and believing women [of adultery]" (Quran 24:23).
[Machine] About Qatadah's saying: "Indeed, those who accuse chaste, unaware, believing women [of adultery] are cursed in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have a great punishment." He said: "This was revealed regarding the matter of Aisha."
[Machine] "From Ibn Abbas: 'Indeed, those who accuse chaste women, intending the pure women (to be accused), unaware (of what they are saying), believing women, intending the women of faith, they are cursed in this world and the Hereafter, and for them is a great punishment. They (the accused) are to be removed from the faith.'"
[Machine] Regarding Ibn Abbas' statement on the verse "Indeed, those who accuse chaste, unaware and believing women are cursed in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have a great punishment." [Surah An-Nur, verse 23], it means that the hypocrites slandered the Prophet's wives, so Allah obligated curses and anger upon them, and they incurred the anger of Allah. All of this is in relation to the wives of the Prophet.
[Machine] Regarding the statement of the Prophet ﷺ: "Indeed those who accuse chaste, unaware, believing women are cursed," this verse is specifically referring to the wives of the Prophet ﷺ. As for the one who accuses a woman from among the Muslims, then he is a sinful person, as Allah has stated, and he should either repent or face the consequences.
