[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a man that he is from the people of Hellfire. The people waited for the outcome until on the day of Hunayn, he fought and was killed. They informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it, and he said, "He is indeed from the people of Hellfire." The man was then wounded, took an arrow from his quiver, and killed himself. They said, "O Messenger of Allah, Allah's statement proved to be true." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Bilal, announce that no one will enter Paradise except a believer, and indeed Allah supports the religion with a sinful man."

[Machine] Abu said that his father narrated to him that he mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ regarding his contemplation on His statement: "We are equal, whether we are patient or if we show fear, there is for us no escape." The Prophet ﷺ said, "The people of the Fire will say, 'Come let us be patient!' So they will be patient for five hundred years, but when they see that there is no benefit in it, they will say, 'Come let us show fear!' So they will show fear for five hundred years, but when they see that there is no benefit in it, they will say, 'We are equal, whether we are patient or if we show fear, there is for us no escape.'"

She replied, "It's a gift, and I was cautious not to say it was a charity." He and his companions ate from it, then he said to them, "Stop!" He asked the woman, "Did you poison this sheep?" She asked, "Who told you?" He said, "This bone," pointing to its leg bone or holding it in his hand. She said, "Yes." He asked, "Why?" She replied, "I said to myself, if you are a liar, people will be at ease from you, and if you are a Prophet, it will not harm you." The Prophet ﷺ punished her by cutting off her hands and feet, and some accounts mention that she died.

[Machine] That Ka'b bin Al-Ashraf, the Jewish poet, used to insult the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions and incite the polytheists of Quraysh against them in his poetry. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Medina, there were Muslims among them who were united by the call of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and among them were the polytheists who worshiped idols, as well as Jews and members of the Halqah and Hushun tribes who were allies of the Banu Aus and Khazraj. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to reconcile with them and establish good relations with them. There were men who were Muslims while their fathers were polytheists, and men who were Muslims while their brothers were polytheists. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Medina, the polytheists and Jews of the city would haraass the Prophet ﷺ and his companions the most. Allah commanded His Prophet ﷺ and the Muslims to bear patience and forgive them. In them, Allah the Most High revealed: "[There are] indeed many among them who harass the Prophet and say, 'He is a one who listens [to every word].' [But] the people of faith who were given the Scripture(s) before your time did the same; and the polytheists as well. If you were to yield to their desires, after the knowledge that has come to you, you would be a transgressor. And there are among the People of the Book those who would indeed wish to bring you back to infidelity after faith. [But] out of their selfish envy, even after the truth has become clear to them. So, forgive and overlook until Allah brings about His command. Indeed, Allah has power over all things." When Ka'b bin Al-Ashraf refused to stop his harm towards the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Muslims, the Prophet ﷺ ordered Sa'd bin Mu'adh, Muhammad bin Maslamah Al-Ansari, and Harith bin Aws bin Thabit Al-Ansari, as well as Abu 'Isa bin Habrah Al-Ansari and Harith bin Sa'd bin Mu'adh, to assassinate him. They went to him one evening in his assembly at Al-Awali and when Ka'b bin Al-Ashraf saw them, he sensed their intentions and asked them, "What brought you here?" They replied, "We came to discuss a matter with you." He said, "Then let one of you come closer to me and inform me about it." So, one of them approached him and said, "We came to negotiate selling you some armor, the proceeds of which we will use for charity." He said, "By Allah, if you do that, you would have exhausted yourselves. Since this man came to you, he has been challenging you to come to him for dinner when people have gone and it is a good opportunity. So, they went to him and one of them called out to him. When he stood up to go to them, his wife asked him, 'What are they asking of you at this time of the night? Is there something you desire from them?' He said, 'Yes, indeed they have told me something interesting.' Then, he went out to them. Muhammad bin Maslamah embraced him and said, 'Let none of you precede the others in slaying him. We will all kill him together, for if we allow him to speak a word, he will bewitch us.'" Then they stabbed him with their swords in his abdomen and killed him. When the Jews and the polytheists who were with them found out about it, they were alarmed and the next morning they went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'Our leader was killed last night and he was a nobleman among us.' So, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited to them some of his poetry in which he insulted and harmed them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then called them to write a document between him and them and the Muslims in general, which would include the agreement of the people. And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote it.

[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ went out in intense heat and ordered a military expedition to Tabuk. At that time, I was a believer in Allah and his messenger, but my soul longed for shade and coolness. I was strong and young, and my soul told me that I should make excuses and not go with the messenger of Allah ﷺ . So that's what I did. The Prophet ﷺ set off and I went to the marketplace, intending to prepare myself. It was as if he was holding my hand, and he walked until he was about two miles away from the city. He stopped, and there he found a man on a mount who caught up to him. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Be Abu Khaythamah." So he turned out to be Abu Khaythamah. The Prophet ﷺ said, "In the city there are seventy-seven hypocrites, including me, Hilal bin Umayyah, and Murarah. The Prophet ﷺ asked Abu Khaythamah, "What did Ka'b bin Malik do?" He replied, "I left him walking in the streets of the city." Mu'adh said, "By Allah, I did not know that he loved Allah and his messenger." A group of the Prophet's companions went down and said, "By Allah, they care only about their stomachs and their lower parts, and they are the weakest in hearts." The Prophet ﷺ called Ammar bin Yasir and told him to go to those people and ask them what was causing their dissatisfaction. So if you ask them, they would say that they were just having fun and playing around. The Prophet ﷺ said, "You have burned them, may Allah also burn you." He also recited the verse (translation): "If you ask them, they will surely say, 'We were only conversing and playing.' Say, 'Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?'" And there came a man who was not one of them, but he heard their conversation and clung to the Prophet's companion. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I did not care about them, but I heard what they said." So the Prophet ﷺ set off and walked along with the man, apologizing to him. They continued until blood began to flow from the Prophet's feet, and then the Prophet ﷺ returned from his military expedition. Hilal bin Umayyah and Murarah bin Rabee'ah came to him and he made us sit in a corner. It was said to Ka'b bin Malik that he was not pleased with his two companions. So he turned to them and asked them why, to which they replied,

[Machine] We set out in the month of Hajj that we had pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , at Al-Aqaba, with the polytheists of our people. With us was Al-Bara' bin Ma'rur, our elder, and our leader. When we reached the outskirts of the desert, he said, "O people, you know that I have seen a vision, and I don't know if you agree with me on it or not." We asked, "What is it, O Abu Al-Bashar?" He said, "I saw that I was praying towards this structure (the Kaaba) instead of facing my back to it." We said, "No, by Allah, you should not do that, for we have heard that our Prophet, ﷺ , only prays towards the Sham (the Levant)." He said, "By Allah, I will always pray towards it." Whenever the time for prayer came, he would face the Kaaba, and we faced the Sham, until we reached Makkah. Al-Bara' bin Ma'rur said to me, "O cousin, come with us to the Messenger of Allah so that we may ask him about what we have done on this journey. For I have found something different in myself compared to all of you." So we went to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and we met a man near Al-Abtah, and we said to him, "Show us the way to Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib." He asked, "Do you know him if you see him?" We said, "No, by Allah, we don't know him, nor have we seen the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ ." He asked, "Do you know Al-Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib?" We answered, "Yes, we know him, for we used to trade with him." He said, "When you enter the mosque, look for Al-Abbas, for he is the man with him." So we entered the mosque, and the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and Al-Abbas were sitting on one side of the mosque. We greeted them and sat down. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , asked, "Do you know these two men?" When they hesitated, he said, "This is Al-Bara' bin Ma'rur, the leader of his people, and this is Ka'b bin Malik." Al-Bara' bin Ma'rur said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have seen a vision on this journey that I wanted to ask you about, so that you may tell me what I should do." The Prophet, ﷺ , asked, "What is it?" He replied, "I saw that I should not turn my back on this structure (the Kaaba) while praying, so I prayed towards it." The Prophet, ﷺ , said, "You were on the right direction, and if you had been patient with it, it would have been enough for you." Then he returned to the direction the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to face (towards the Sham), and his family kept saying that he died facing it, but we know better. He went back to the direction the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to face, and he prayed with us towards the Sham.

[Machine] We went out in the month of Hajj in which we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Al-Aqaba. Our people, along with us, were the elderly Bara' bin Ma'rur and our leader. When we reached the outskirts of the desert, he said, "O people, you know that I have seen a vision. I do not know if you would agree with me or not?" We asked, "What is it, O father of mankind?" He said, "I saw that I was praying towards this structure (meaning Al-Quds) and I did not consider it to be from among me. We said, "No, by Allah, do not do what we have been informed about our Prophet, ﷺ , that he only prays towards Ash-Sham.” He said, "By Allah, I will face it (Al-Quds) during prayer." And whenever prayer time would come, he would turn towards the Ka'bah, while we would turn towards Ash-Sham until we reached Makkah. Then, Bara' bin Ma'rur said to me, "O son of my brother, come with us to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that we may ask him about what we have done in this journey. For I found in myself something different from what you all found in yourselves." So we went to ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and we met a man at the door. We said to him, "Show us the way to Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib." He asked, "Do you recognize him if you see him?" We said, "No, by Allah, we do not recognize him, nor have we seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." He asked, "Do you recognize Al-Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib?" We said, "Yes, we do. We know him as he used to trade with us." Then he said, "When you enter the mosque, look for Al-Abbas. He is the man accompanying him." So we entered the mosque and saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Al-Abbas sitting on one side of the mosque. We greeted them and sat down. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you know these two men?" When we hesitated, he said, "This is Bara' bin Ma'rur, the leader of his people, and this is Ka'b bin Malik." Then Al-Abbas said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "O Messenger of Allah, I have seen a vision during this journey and I would like to ask you about it." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "What is it?" He replied, "I saw that I should not make this structure (Al-Quds) part of me during prayer. So I prayed towards it." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You were on the right path, and if only you could have endured it." Then he turned towards the Qibla of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his family, as they say, "He died upon it." And we know best about it. He returned to the Qibla of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and prayed with us towards Ash-Sham.

[Machine] We set out during the pilgrimage season in which we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Al-Aqaba. The polytheists of our people, along with the senior members of our community, including the Prophet's cousin Al-Bara' bin Ma'rur, went with us. When we reached the outskirts of the wilderness, he said, "O people, you know that I have seen a vision and I do not know if you will agree with me or not." We asked, "What is it, O Abu Al-Bashar?" He said, "I saw that I am praying towards this structure and I do not take it as my Qibla. We responded, "No, by Allah, you should not do what we have been informed that our Prophet ﷺ does not pray except towards Ash-Sham (the Levant)." He said, "By Allah, I am going to pray towards it." He used to face the Ka'bah when the time for prayer came, but we faced Ash-Sham until we reached Makkah. Then Al-Bara' bin Ma'rur said to me, "O my nephew, go to the Messenger of Allah and ask him about what we have done on this journey, for I have noticed a difference between him and you." So, we went to ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we met a man at the entrance of At-Tan'im. We asked him to direct us to Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib. He asked, "Do you recognize him if you see him?" We replied, "No, by Allah, we do not recognize him, nor have we seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." He then asked, "Do you recognize Al-Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib?" We replied, "Yes, we do. We are familiar with him as he used to visit us for trade." He said, "When you enter the Masjid, look for Al-Abbas, for he is the man accompanying him." So, we entered the Masjid and found the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Al-Abbas sitting to the side. We greeted them and sat down. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you recognize these two men?" When he paused, we replied, "Yes, this is Al-Bara' bin Ma'rur, the leader of his people, and this is Ka'b bin Malik." Al-Bara' bin Ma'rur then asked, "O Messenger of Allah, I have seen something in this journey that I wanted to ask you about, so you could inform me of what I have done." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What is it?" Al-Bara' replied, "I saw that I should not take this structure as my Qibla, so I prayed towards it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You were upon a previous Qibla, if you had been patient and continued to pray towards it." So, the Prophet ﷺ returned to the previous Qibla and his family and companions were saying that he had died upon it, and we were more aware of him. He returned to the previous Qibla and performed the prayer with us facing Ash-Sham.

[Machine] I was the leader of my father when his sight failed. Whenever I went out to Friday prayers, he would hear the call to prayer and seek forgiveness for Ummamah As'ad ibn Zurarah. So I would stay for a while to hear that from him. I said to myself, there is nothing stopping me from asking him about this. So I went out with him as I usually do. When he heard the call to prayer for Friday, he sought forgiveness for him. So I said, "Oh my father, have you noticed that you seek forgiveness for As'ad ibn Zurarah every time you hear the call to prayer for Friday?" He said, "Oh my son, As'ad was the first one of us to gather in Medina before the arrival of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the battle of Hurrah of Bani Bayadah in Naki' Al-Khadimah. I said, how many were you that day? He said, forty men."
