65.12 Surat Yusuf (Joseph) (contd …)

٦٥۔١٢ سورة يُوسُفَ

[Machine] "And Fudayl said, from Husayn, from Mujahid: {a resting place}. Uturuj said Fudayl, Uturuj in Abyssinian means a place to rest. And Ibn 'Uyaynah said, from a man, from Mujahid, a resting place is anything that was cut with a knife. And Qatadah said, {they have knowledge}. They act based on what they know. And Ibn Jubayr said, suwa is a Persian measuring container with two sides, which the non-Arabs used to drink from. And Ibn 'Abbas said, {you deny} means you don't know. And someone else said, ghayabah is anything that you have missed. And al-Jubb is the wooden spoon used by the Persian rider that it meets both ends, which the non-Arabs used to drink with. And Ibn 'Abbas said, {strengthens it} means increases it before it decreases. It is said: "He reached the peak of his strength" and "They reached the peak of their strength." And some of them said that the plural form of it is "shadd," and a resting place is what you lean against for drinking, talking, or eating. And what was mentioned about Uturuj is invalid, and it is not mentioned in the Arab language. So when they were criticized that it is the resting place from namariq, they fled to a worse situation. They said: "It is only the mutak, which is the consonant taa, and the mutak is the edge of the thumb. And from that, it was called matka' and ibn al-matka'. But if it is called turn is after the mutaka'. {It tempted her} is said to its shighaf, which is the outer cover of her heart. As for sha'fa, it is from mash'uuf. {It will incline} means tilt. And {the interpretation of dreams} is what cannot be interpreted. And ad-dighth is the amount filled by the hand with grass or similar material. And from it: {And take in your hand a handful}, not from his saying {interpretation of dreams}, and its singular is dighth. {Namer} is from mira, and {and increase in weight of a camel} is what a camel bears. {He sought refuge with him} means he sought shelter with him. As-siqayah is a measure. {which does not cease}. {It fizzes} means it dissolves you in anxiety. {They examined} means they sought information. {Mixed} in a small quantity {with a taste of Allah's punishment} is generally blackened."

bukhari:4689Muḥammad > ʿAbdah > ʿUbaydullāh > Saʿīd b. Abū Saʿīd > Abū Hurayrah

Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Who are the most honorable of the people?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "The most honorable of them in Allah's Sight are those who keep their duty to Allah and fear Him. They said, "We do not ask you about that." He said, "Then the most honorable of the people is Joseph, Allah's prophet, the son of Allah's prophet, the son of Allah's prophet, the son of Allah's Khalil i.e. Abraham) They said, "We do not ask you about that." The Prophet ﷺ said, Do you ask about (the virtues of the ancestry of the Arabs?" They said, "Yes," He said, "Those who were the best amongst you in the Prelslamic Period are the best amongst you in Islam if they comprehend (the Islamic religion).

٦٥۔١٢۔٣ باب قَوْلِهِ {قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنْفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًا} {سَوَّلَتْ} زَيَّنَتْ

ʿUrwa bin Az-Zubair, Saʿid bin Al-Musaiyab, 'Al-Qama bin Waqqas and 'Ubaidullah bin ʿAbdullah related the narration of ʿAisha, the wife the Prophet, when the slanderers had said about her what they had said and Allah later declared her innocence. Each of them related a part of the narration (wherein) the Prophet ﷺ said (to ʿAisha). "If you are innocent, then Allah will declare your innocence: but if you have committed a sin, then ask for Allah's Forgiveness and repent to him." ʿAisha said, "By Allah, I find no example for my case except that of Joseph's father (when he said), 'So (for me) patience is most fitting.' " Then Allah revealed the ten Verses:-- "Verily those who spread the slander are a gang amongst you.." (24.11)

When the Prophet ﷺ realized that the Quraish had delayed in embracing Islam, he said, "O Allah! Protect me against their evil by afflicting them with seven (years of famine) like the seven years of (Prophet) Joseph." So they were struck with a year of famine that destroyed everything till they had to eat bones, and till a man would look towards the sky and see something like smoke between him and it. Allah said:-- "Then watch you (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce a kind of smoke plainly visible." (44.10) And Allah further said:-- "Verily! We shall withdraw the punishment a little, Verily you will return (to disbelief)." (44.15) (Will Allah relieve them from torture on the Day of Resurrection?) (The punishment of) the smoke had passed and Al-Baltsha (the destruction of the pagans in the Badr battle) had passed too.

(When his nation troubled him) he wished if he could betake himself to some powerful support; and if I were to remain in prison for the period Joseph had remained, I would surely respond to the call; and we shall have more right (to be in doubt) than Abraham: When Allah said to him, "Don't you believe?' That when he asked ʿAisha about the statement of Allah "Until when the Apostles gave up hope (of their people)." (12.110) she told him (its meaning), ʿUrwa added, "I said, 'Did they (Apostles) suspect that they were betrayed (by Allah) or that they were treated as liars by (their people)?' ʿAisha said, '(They suspected) that they were treated as liars by (their people),' I said, 'But they were sure that their people treated them as liars and it was not a matter of suspicion.' She said, 'Yes, upon my life they were sure about it.' I said to her. 'So they (Apostles) suspected that they were betrayed (by Allah).' She said, "Allah forbid! The Apostles never suspected their Lord of such a thing.' I said, 'What about this Verse then?' She said, 'It is about the Apostles' followers who believed in their Lord and trusted their Apostles, but the period of trials was prolonged and victory was delayed till the Apostles gave up all hope of converting those of the people who disbelieved them and the Apostles thought that their followers treated them as liars; thereupon Allah's help came to them.
