65. Prophetic Commentary on the Quran

65.46 Surat al-Ahqaf (The Sand-Hills) (contd …)

[Machine] Mujahid said, "You say, `You overflow.'"

And some of them said, "Effect, trace, and aftermath - remnants of knowledge."

And Ibn Abbas said, "‘With falsehood!’ - I am not the first of the messengers."

And someone else said, "Did you see? This [letter] alif is only a warning, if what you claim is true. It does not deserve to be worshipped. And his saying, ‘Have you seen?’ is not with the vision of the eye. It is only, ‘Do you know?’ I inform you the most accurate that what you invoke besides Allah have created something."

65.46.1 "But he who says to his parents: Fie upon you both! Do you hold out the promise to me that I shall be raised up (again)... (up to) ... the tales of the ancient." (V.46:17)

٦٥۔٤٦۔١ باب {وَالَّذِي قَالَ لِوَالِدَيْهِ أُفٍّ لَكُمَا أَتَعِدَانِنِي أَنْ أُخْرَجَ وَقَدْ خَلَتِ الْقُرُونُ مِنْ قَبْلِي وَهُمَا يَسْتَغِيثَانِ اللَّهَ وَيْلَكَ آمِنْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقٌّ فَيَقُولُ مَا هَذَا إِلاَّ أَسَاطِيرُ الأَوَّلِينَ}

bukhari:4827Mūsá b. Ismāʿīl > Abū ʿAwānah > Abū Bishr > Yūsuf b. Māhak

Marwan had been appointed as the governor of Hijaz by Muawiya. He delivered a sermon and mentioned Yazid bin Muawiya so that the people might take the oath of allegiance to him as the successor of his father (Muawiya). Then ʿAbdur Rahman bin Abu Bakr told him something whereupon Marwan ordered that he be arrested. But ʿAbdur-Rahman entered ʿAisha's house and they could not arrest him. Marwan said, "It is he (ʿAbdurRahman) about whom Allah revealed this Verse:-- 'And the one who says to his parents: 'Fie on you! Do you hold out the promise to me..?'" On that, ʿAisha said from behind a screen, "Allah did not reveal anything from the Qur'an about us except what was connected with the declaration of my innocence (of the slander).

65.46.2 The Statement of Allah the Most High: "Then, when they saw it as a dense cloud coming towards their valleys..." (V.46:24)

٦٥۔٤٦۔٢ باب {فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ عَارِضًا مُسْتَقْبِلَ أَوْدِيَتِهِمْ قَالُوا هَذَا عَارِضٌ مُمْطِرُنَا بَلْ هُوَ مَا اسْتَعْجَلْتُمْ بِهِ رِيحٌ فِيهَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ}

[Machine] Ibn Abbas said, "The clouds are passing by."

bukhari:4828Aḥmad > Ibn Wahb > ʿAmr > Abū al-Naḍr > Sulaymān b. Yasār > ʿĀʾishah

(the wife of the Prophet), I never saw Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughing loudly enough to enable me to see his uvula, but he used to smile only. And whenever he saw clouds or winds, signs of deep concern would appear on his face. I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! When people see clouds they usually feel happy, hoping that it would rain, while I see that when you see clouds, one could notice signs of dissatisfaction on your face." He said, "O ʿAisha! What is the guarantee for me that there will be no punishment in it, since some people were punished with a wind? Verily, some people saw (received) the punishment, but (while seeing the cloud) they said, 'This cloud will give us rain.' "

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ ضَاحِكًا حَتَّى أَرَى مِنْهُ لَهَوَاتِهِ إِنَّمَا كَانَ يَتَبَسَّمُ قَالَتْ وَكَانَ إِذَا رَأَى غَيْمًا أَوْ رِيحًا عُرِفَ فِي وَجْهِهِ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ النَّاسَ إِذَا رَأَوُا الْغَيْمَ فَرِحُوا رَجَاءَ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِيهِ الْمَطَرُ وَأَرَاكَ إِذَا رَأَيْتَهُ عُرِفَ فِي وَجْهِكَ الْكَرَاهِيَةُ فَقَالَ يَا عَائِشَةُ مَا يُؤْمِنِّي أَنْ يَكُونَ فِيهِ عَذَابٌ عُذِّبَ قَوْمٌ بِالرِّيحِ وَقَدْ رَأَى قَوْمٌ الْعَذَابَ فَقَالُوا {هَذَا عَارِضٌ مُمْطِرُنَا}
