65.48 Surat al-Fath (The Triumph) (contd …)

[Machine] And Mujahid said: "Their characteristic is seen on their faces, it is arrogance." And Mansur reported from Mujahid: "Humility is his striking with the side of his palm, and firmness is the stiffness of his muscles." And it is said: "The circumference of evil is like you saying a man is evil." And the circumference of evil is punishment. "You support him" means you empower him. "His striking" means the striking of the corn, as the seed grows ten, eight, or seven, and each part strengthens the other. That is the saying of Allah: "So He supported him" means He empowered him, and if it was only one it wouldn't stand on a leg. And it is an example set by Allah for the Prophet ﷺ when he went out alone, then He empowered him with his companions, just as the seed is strengthened by what grows from it.

65.48.1 The Statement of Allah the Most High: "Verily, We have given you (O Muḥammad pbuh) a manifest victory." (V.48:1)

٦٥۔٤٨۔١ باب {إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُبِينًا}

bukhari:4833ʿAbdullāh b. Maslamah > Mālik > Zayd b. Aslam from his father

While Messenger of Allah ﷺ was proceeding at night during one of his journeys and ʿUmar bin Al-Khattab was traveling beside him, ʿUmar asked him about something but Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not reply. He asked again, but he did not reply, and then he asked (for the third time) but he did not reply. On that, ʿUmar bin Al-Khattab said to himself, "Thakilat Ummu ʿUmar (May ʿUmar's mother lose her son)! I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ three times but he did not reply." ʿUmar then said, "I made my camel run faster and went ahead of the people, and I was afraid that some Qur'anic Verses might be revealed about me. But before getting involved in any other matter. I heard somebody calling me. I said to myself, 'I fear that some Qur'anic Verses have been revealed about me,' and so I went to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and greeted him. He (Messenger of Allah ﷺ ) said, 'Tonight a Sura has been revealed to me, and it is dearer to me than that on which the sun rises (i.e. the world)' Then he recited: "Verily, We have given you a manifest victory." (48.1)

bukhari:4835Muslim b. Ibrāhīm > Shuʿbah > Muʿāwiyah b. Qurrah > ʿAbdullāh b. Mughaffal

On the Day of the Conquest of Mecca, the Prophet ﷺ recited Surat Al-Fath in a vibrating and pleasant voice. (Muawaiya, the subnarrator said, "If I could imitate the recitation of the Prophet ﷺ I would do so.")

٦٥۔٤٨۔٢ باب {لِيَغْفِرَ لَكَ اللَّهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ وَيُتِمَّ نِعْمَتَهُ عَلَيْكَ وَيَهْدِيَكَ صِرَاطًا مُسْتَقِيمًا}

The Prophet ﷺ used to offer night prayers till his feet became swollen. Somebody said, to him," "Allah has forgiven you, your faults of the past and those to follow." On that, he said, "Shouldn't I be a thankful slave of Allah)?"

that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ would stand in prayer at night until his feet became cracked, so Aishah said: “Why do you do this, O Messenger of Allah, when Allah has forgiven you what came before of your sins and what came after?” He said: “Should I not love to be a grateful servant?”

Then, when his flesh increased (i.e., he became heavier), he prayed sitting; and when he wanted to bow, he would stand, recite, then bow.

[AI] that this verse which is in the Quran, "O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner," he said, is in the Torah: "O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, and a safeguard for the unlettered. You are My servant and My Messenger. I have named you al-Mutawakkil. He is not harsh, nor coarse, nor loud in the marketplaces; he does not repay evil with evil, but pardons and overlooks. Allah will not take him until He straightens through him the crooked community, by their saying: "There is no god but Allah." Through it, He will open blind eyes, deaf ears, and covered hearts."

bukhari:4839ʿUbaydullāh b. Mūsá > Isrāʾīl > Abū Isḥāq > al-Barāʾ

While a man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ was reciting (Qur'an) and his horse was tied in the house, the horse got startled and started jumping. The Prophet ﷺ said, "That was the tranquility (calmness) which descended because of the recitation of the Qur'an."

Sahl ibn Hunayf on Siffin and Hudaybiyah

bukhari:4844Aḥmad b. Isḥāq al-Sulamī > Yaʿlá > ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Siyāh > Ḥabīb b. Abī Thābit

[AI] I came to Abu Wail to ask him, and he said: We were at Siffin when a man said, "Have you not seen those who are called to the Book of Allah?" Ali said: Yes. Then Sahl ibn Hunayf said: Question your own judgment, for I remember us on the day of Hudaybiyah—meaning the treaty that took place between the Prophet ﷺ and the polytheists—and if we had seen fighting as the course to take, we would have fought.

Then Umar came and said: Are we not upon the truth while they are upon falsehood? Are not our slain in Paradise and their slain in the Fire? He said: "Yes." Umar said: Then why should I accept humiliation in our religion and turn back when Allah has not yet judged between us? He said: "O son of al-Khattab, I am the Messenger of Allah, and Allah will never abandon me." So Umar returned in anger and could not be patient until he came to Abu Bakr and said: O Abu Bakr, are we not upon the truth while they are upon falsehood? He said: O son of al-Khattab, he is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Allah will never abandon him. Then Surat al-Fath was revealed.
