65. Prophetic Commentary on the Quran

65.68 Surat al-Qalam (The Pen) (contd …)

[Machine] "And Qatadah said: `{Hardeen} Jeddin fi anfusihim`," meaning that they found exaggeration in themselves.

And Ibn Abbas said: `{Ladalluna} Adlalna makaan jannatina`," meaning they misled us from our place in paradise.

And someone else said: `{Kassareem} Like the breaking dawn from the night, and the night from the day. It is also every grain that separates from the majority of the sand. And Kassareem also means wounded, like a killed or assassinated person."

65.68.1 "Cruel, and moreover base-born (of illegitimate birth) ." (V.68:13)

٦٥۔٦٨۔١ باب {عُتُلٍّ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ زَنِيمٍ}

bukhari:4917Maḥmūd > ʿUbaydullāh > Isrāʾīl > Abū Ḥaṣīn > Mujāhid > Ibn ʿAbbās ʿUtul Baʿd Dhalik Zanīm

(regarding the Verse):-- 'Cruel after all that, base-born (of illegitimate birth).' (68.13) It was revealed in connection with a man from Quaraish who had a notable sign (Zanamah) similar to the notable sign which usually-hung on the neck of a sheep (to recognize it).

bukhari:4918Abū Nuʿaym > Sufyān > Maʿbad b. Khālid > Ḥārithah b. Wahbal-Khuzāʿī

I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying. "May I tell you of the people of Paradise? Every weak and poor obscure person whom the people look down upon but his oath is fulfilled by Allah when he takes an oath to do something. And may I inform you of the people of the Hell-Fire? They are all those violent, arrogant and stubborn people."

65.68.2 "(Remember) the Day when the Shin shalt be laid bare..." (V.68:42)

٦٥۔٦٨۔٢ باب {يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَنْ سَاقٍ}

bukhari:4919Ādam > al-Layth > Khālid b. Yazīd > Saʿīd b. Abū Hilāl > Zayd b. Aslam > ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār > Abū Saʿīd

I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "Our Lord will lay bare His Shin, and then all the Believers, men and women, will prostrate themselves before Him, but there will remain those who used to prostrate in the world for showing off and for gaining good reputation. Such people will try to prostrate (on the Day of Judgment), but their backs will be as stiff as if it is one bone (a single vertebra).
