I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "Our Lord will lay bare His Shin, and then all the Believers, men and women, will prostrate themselves before Him, but there will remain those who used to prostrate in the world for showing off and for gaining good reputation. Such people will try to prostrate (on the Day of Judgment), but their backs will be as stiff as if it is one bone (a single vertebra).

البخاري:٤٩١٩حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلاَلٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ؓ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «يَكْشِفُ رَبُّنَا عَنْ سَاقِهِ فَيَسْجُدُ لَهُ كُلُّ مُؤْمِنٍ وَمُؤْمِنَةٍ وَيَبْقَى مَنْ كَانَ يَسْجُدُ فِي الدُّنْيَا رِئَاءً وَسُمْعَةً فَيَذْهَبُ لِيَسْجُدَ فَيَعُودُ ظَهْرُهُ طَبَقًا وَاحِدًا۔»

On the Day when matters become dire, they will be invited to prostrate themselves but will be prevented from doing so,

Yawma yukshafu 'am saaqinw Wa-yud'awna ilas sujoodi falaa yastatee'oon

القرآن:٦٨:٤٢

يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَن سَاقࣲ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

quran:68:43

and their eyes will be downcast and they will be overwhelmed with shame: they were invited to prostrate themselves when they were safe [but refused].

Khaashi'atan absaaruhum tarhaquhum zillatunw Wa-qad kaanoo yud'awna ilas sujoodi Wa-hum saalimoon

القرآن:٦٨:٤٣

خَٰشِعَةً أَبْصَٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةࣱۖ وَقَدْ كَانُوا۟ يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَٰلِمُونَ

quran:70:44

eyes downcast and covered in shame: that is the Day of which they were warned.
