A woman from the tribe of Juhaina came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "My mother had vowed to perform Hajj but she died before performing it. May I perform Hajj on my mother's behalf?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Perform Hajj on her behalf. Had there been a debt on your mother, would you have paid it or not? So, pay Allah's debt as He has more right to be paid."

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ جَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُمِّي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ فَلَمْ تَحُجَّ حَتَّى مَاتَتْ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ حُجِّي عَنْهَا أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ قَاضِيَةً اقْضُوا اللَّهَ فَاللَّهُ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ

A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said to him, "My sister vowed to perform the Hajj, but she died (before fulfilling it)." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Would you not have paid her debts if she had any?" The man said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "So pay Allah's Rights, as He is more entitled to receive His rights."

أَتَى رَجُلٌ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنَّ أُخْتِي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ وَإِنَّهَا مَاتَتْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاقْضِ اللَّهَ فَهْوَ أَحَقُّ بِالْقَضَاءِ

A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "My mother vowed to perform the Hajj but she died before performing it. Should I perform the Hajj on her behalf?" He said, "Yes! Perform the Hajj on her behalf. See, if your mother had been in debt, would you have paid her debt?" She said, "Yes." He said, "So you should pay what is for Him as Allah has more right that one should fulfill one's obligations to Him. "

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُمِّي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ فَمَاتَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجَّ عَنْهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ حُجِّي عَنْهَا أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ قَاضِيَتَهُ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ فَاقْضُوا الَّذِي لَهُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ

A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: My mother has died, and fasts of a month are due from her. Thereupon he said: Don't you see that if debt was due from her, would you not pay it? She said: Yes (I would pay on her behalf). Thereupon he said: The debt of Allah deserves its payment more than (the payment of anyone else).

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ بِالْقَضَاءِ

A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, my mother has died (in a state) that she had to observe fasts of a month (of Ramadan). Should I complete (them) on her behalf? thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Would you not pay the debt if your mother had died (without paying it)? He said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) said: The debt of Allah deserves more that it should he paid.

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ عَنْهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ فَقَالَ الْحَكَمُ وَسَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ جَمِيعًا وَنَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ حِينَ حَدَّثَ مُسْلِمٌ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ فَقَالاَ سَمِعْنَا مُجَاهِدًا يَذْكُرُ هَذَا عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, my mother has died and there is due from her a fast of vow; should I fast on her behalf? Thereupon he said: You see that if your mother had died in debt, would it not have been paid on her behalf? She said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Then observe fast on behalf of your mother.

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ نَذْرٍ أَفَأَصُومُ عَنْهَا قَالَ أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتِيهِ أَكَانَ يُؤَدِّي ذَلِكِ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَصُومِي عَنْ أُمِّكِ

A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said (to him) that one month's fast was due from her mother who had died. May I fulfill them on her behalf? He asked: Suppose some debt was due from your mother, would you pay it ? She replied: Yes. He said: So the debt due to Allah is the one which most deserves to be paid.

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ قَاضِيَتَهُ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى

"A woman came to the Prophet and said: 'My sister died while she had two consecutive months of fasting due.' So he said: 'Do you not see that if there was a debt due from your sister then you would have to pay it?' She said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then the right of Allah is more appropriate.'"

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَحَقُّ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ وَعَائِشَةَ

a woman vowed to perform Hajj but she died. Her brother came to the Prophet and asked him about that, he said: 'Do yhou think that if your sister owed a debt you wouold pay it off?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then fulfill the right of Allah, for He is more deserving that His rights should be fulfilled.'''

أَنْ تَحُجَّ فَمَاتَتْ فَأَتَى أَخُوهَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاقْضُوا اللَّهَ فَهُوَ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ

"A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! My father has died and he did not perform Hajj; shall I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Don't you think that if your father owed a debt you would pay it off?' The man said: 'Yes.' He said: 'The debt owed to Allah is more deserving (of being paid off)."'

رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ

“A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, my sister has died and she owed a fast of two consecutive months.’ He said: ‘Do you not think that if your sister owed a debt, you would pay it off for her?’ She said: ‘Of course.’ He said: ‘The right of Allah is greater.’”

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ قَالَتْ بَلَى قَالَ فَحَقُّ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ

[AI] When she died, her brother went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him about it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "If she had a debt, would you not be responsible for it?" He replied, "Yes." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "So fulfill the rights of Allah, as Allah is more deserving of fulfillment." He said, "So he fasted on her behalf."

أَنْ تَصُومَ فَمَاتَتْ فَجَاءَ أَخُوهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاقْضُوا اللَّهَ اللَّهُ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ» قَالَ فَصَامَ عَنْهَا

[AI] "To perform the Hajj and then die, and her brother came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him about it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'If she had any debts, would you have been her judge?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Then fulfill the obligations on behalf of Allah, for Allah is more entitled to fulfill the obligations.'"

أَنْ تَحُجَّ فَمَاتَتْ فَجَاءَ أَخُوهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاقْضُوا اللَّهَ فَاللَّهُ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ»

[AI] A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my mother has passed away and she had a missed fast from the month of Ramadan. Should I make it up for her?" He replied, "Would you not have paid off her debt if she had one?" She said, "Yes." He said, "So the debt owed to Allah ﷻ is more deserving to be paid off."

أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِي عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ أَمَا كُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ؟ قَالَتْ بَلَى قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللهِ ﷻ أَحَقُّ

[AI] O Messenger of Allah, her mother was fasting for a month and then she died. Should she fast on her behalf? He said, "If your mother had a debt, would you pay it off?" She said, "Yes." He said, "Then the debt owed to Allah deserves to be fulfilled."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ فَمَاتَتْ أَفَأَصُومُهُ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ قَاضِيَتَهُ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللهِ ﷻ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى

a woman vowed to perform Hajj but she died. Her brother came to the Prophet and asked him about that, he said: 'Do yhou think that if your sister owed a debt you wouold pay it off?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then fulfill the right of Allah, for He is more deserving that His rights should be fulfilled.''' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2632)

أَنْ تَحُجَّ فَمَاتَتْ فَأَتَى أَخُوهَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكَ دَيْنٌأَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاقْضُوا اللهَ ﷻ فَهُوَ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ

A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said (to him) that one month's fast was due from her mother who had died. May I fulfill them on her behalf? [AI] "A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'My sister made a vow to perform Hajj but she passed away. Should I fulfill it on her behalf?' The Prophet ﷺ asked, 'If she had a debt, would you pay it off?' The man said, 'Yes.' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'Then fulfilling obligations to Allah is even more deserving.'"

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُخْتِي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ وَقَدْ مَاتَتْ؟ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ تَقْضِيهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ

[AI] From the Prophet (PBUH) who said, "A woman came to him and said, 'Indeed, my mother has passed away and she had missed a month of fasting. Can I fast on her behalf?' He said, 'Would you have paid off her debt if she had one?' She replied, 'Yes.' He then said, 'Indeed, the debt owed to Allah is more deserving to be paid off.'"

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ أَتَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ فَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَكِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ كُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللهِ ﷻ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى

“A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, my sister has died and she owed a fast of two consecutive months.’ He said: ‘Do you not think that if your sister owed a debt, you would pay it off for her?’ She said: ‘Of course.’ He said: ‘The right of Allah is greater.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1758)

“A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, my sister has died and she owed a fast of two consecutive months.’ He said: ‘Do you not think that if your sister owed a debt, you would pay it off for her?’ She said: ‘Of course.’ He said: ‘The right of Allah is greater.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1758)

[AI] "A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'My sister has passed away and did not perform the Hajj. Can I perform Hajj on her behalf?' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'What do you think if she had a debt, would you pay it off for her? Indeed, Allah has more right to be fulfilled.'"

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تَحُجَّ* أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ ﷺ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوَ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ فَاللَّهُ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ»

[AI] A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my mother has passed away and she had a fast to fulfill from a vow." The Prophet ﷺ said to her, "Were you her executor of debts if she had any?" She replied, "Yes." He said, "Then fast on behalf of your mother."

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمٌ مِنْ نَذْرٍ فَقَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَكُنْتِ قَاضِيَةً عَنْ أُمِّكِ دَيْنًا لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا؟ » قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَصُومِي عَنْ أُمِّكِ»

قَالَ جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَحَقُّ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ

[AI] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed my father is old and unable to perform Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He ﷺ replied, "If your father had a debt, would you settle it for him?" The man said, "Yes." He ﷺ said, "Then the debt owed to Allah is even more deserving to be fulfilled."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي كَبِيرٌ لَا يُطِيقُ الْحَجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيًا دَيْنًا لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَوْلَى حُجَّ عَنْهُ»

A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, my mother has died (in a state) that she had to observe fasts of a month (of Ramadan). جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ عَنْهَا؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى» قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ فَقَالَ الْحَكَمُ وَسَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ وَنَحْنُ جَمِيعًا جُلُوسٌ حِينَ حَدَّثَ مُسْلِمٌ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ سَمِعْنَا مُجَاهِدًا يَذْكُرُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my mother had an obligation of fasting for a month and she passed away." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Would you not have fulfilled her debt if she owed someone money?" He replied, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then the debt of Allah deserves to be fulfilled even more."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولُ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي جَعَلَتْ عَلَيْهَا صَوْمَ شَهْرٍ وَإِنَّهَا مَاتَتْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ كُنْتَ تَقْضِيهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى»

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my father has died and did not perform Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Prophet replied, "If your father had a debt, would you pay it off?" The man answered, "Yes." The Prophet then said, "So the debt of Allah is more deserving to be paid off."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ was visited by a woman who said, "O Messenger of Allah, my mother has made a vow to fast for a month, but she passed away before being able to fulfill it." He asked her, "If your mother had a debt, would you pay it on her behalf?" She replied, "Yes." He said, "The debt owed to Allah is even more deserving to be paid."

أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَصُومَ شَهْرًا وَإِنَّهَا تُوُفِّيَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَصُومَ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ قَاضِيَةً؟» قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ «دَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى»

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, my sister vowed to perform Hajj but she passed away before she could fulfill her vow. He said, "Do you think if your sister had a debt, would you pay it off?" He said, "Yes." He said, "So the debt owed to Allah is more deserving to be paid off for your sister's Hajj."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُخْتِي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ وَمَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تَحُجَّ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ تَقْضِيهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى حُجَّ عَنْ أُخْتِكَ»

[AI] A woman from Juheinah came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "My mother made a vow to perform Hajj but she died before being able to do so. Should I perform Hajj on her behalf?" He asked, "If your mother had a debt, would you pay it off?" She replied, "Yes." He then said, "Perform Hajj on her behalf and pay her debt off, for Allah is more deserving of fulfillment."

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ جَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُمِّي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ وَلَمْ تَحُجَّ حَتَّى مَاتَتْ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ كُنْتِ قَاضِيَتَهُ؟» قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَحُجِّي عَنْهَا وَاقْضِي الَّذِي عَلَيْهَا فَإِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ»

[AI] A woman came from Juhaynah to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my mother has died without performing Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on her behalf?" He asked her, "If your mother had a debt, would you fulfill it for her?" She replied, "Yes." He said, "Then surely the debt owed to Allah is more deserving to be fulfilled."

أَتَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمُّكِ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتِهِ أَوَفِي ذَلِكَ عَنْهَا؟» قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى»

A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: My mother has died, and fasts of a month are due from her. Thereupon he said: Don't you see that if debt was due from her, would you not pay it? She said: Yes (I would pay on her behalf). Thereupon he said: The debt of Allah deserves its payment more than (the payment of anyone else). (Using translation from Muslim 1148a)

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَصُومُ عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ تَقْضِيهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى»

A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, my mother has died (in a state) that she had to observe fasts of a month (of Ramadan). Should I complete (them) on her behalf? thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Would you not pay the debt if your mother had died (without paying it)? He said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) said: The debt of Allah deserves more that it should he paid. (Using translation from Muslim 1148b)

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكَ دَيْنٌ كُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ عَنْهَا؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى» قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ فَقَالَ الْحَكَمُ وَسَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ وَنَحْنُ جَمِيعًا جُلُوسٌ حَيْثُ حَدَّثَ مُسْلِمٌ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ فَقَالَا سَمِعْنَا مُجَاهِدًا يَذْكُرُهَا عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

“A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, my sister has died and she owed a fast of two consecutive months.’ He said: ‘Do you not think that if your sister owed a debt, you would pay it off for her?’ She said: ‘Of course.’ He said: ‘The right of Allah is greater.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1758)

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتَكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ؟» قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَحَقُّ اللهِ أَحَقُّ»

A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said (to him) that one month's fast was due from her mother who had died. May I fulfill them on her behalf? He asked: Suppose some debt was due from your mother, would you pay it ? She replied: Yes. He said: So the debt due to Allah is the one which most deserves to be paid. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3310)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ أَتَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ؟» قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى»

[AI] A man came to the prophet ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my mother has passed away and she has a month of fasting owed. Should I fast on her behalf?" He (the prophet) said, "Do you think if she had a debt, would you fulfill it for her? So, the debt of Allah deserves to be fulfilled." Sulaiman narrated to me this hadith from Salamah bin Kuhayl, and Al-Hakam also narrated the same from Ibn Abbas.

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِي عَنْهَا قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ تَقْضِيهِ؟ فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى» قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ وَحَدَّثَنِيهِ سَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ وَالْحَكَمُ بِمِثْلِ ذَلِكَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

a woman vowed to perform Hajj but she died. Her brother came to the Prophet and asked him about that, he said: 'Do yhou think that if your sister owed a debt you wouold pay it off?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then fulfill the right of Allah, for He is more deserving that His rights should be fulfilled.''' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2632)

أَنْ تَحُجَّ فَمَاتَتْ فَأَتَى أَخُوهَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاقْضُوا اللهَ فَهُوَ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ»

"A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! My father has died and he did not perform Hajj; shall I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Don't you think that if your father owed a debt you would pay it off?' The man said: 'Yes.' He said: 'The debt owed to Allah is more deserving (of being paid off)."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2639)

قَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ»

[AI] "A woman came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said, 'Indeed, my mother has died while she had a month of fasting left.' He (PBUH) said, 'Do you think that if she had a debt, you would have paid it off for her?' She said, 'Yes.' So he (PBUH) said, 'The debt of Allah is more deserving of being paid off.'"

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ دَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ بِالْقَضَاءِ

[AI] A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed my sister has passed away and she owed two consecutive months of fasting." He ﷺ said, "Would you have paid off her debt if she had owed money?" She said, "Yes." He said, "Then the right of Allah is more deserving."

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَحَقُّ اللهِ أَحَقُّ

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said to him, "Indeed, my sister made a vow to perform Hajj but she passed away." The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "What if she had a debt, would you not fulfill it for her?" He replied, "Yes, I would." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "So fulfill Allah's right, for He is the most deserving of fulfilling."

أَتَى رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنَّ أُخْتِي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ وَإِنَّهَا مَاتَتْ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاقْضُوا اللهَ فَهُوَ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ

A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said to him, "My sister vowed to perform the Hajj, but she died (before fulfilling it)." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Would you not have paid her debts if she had any?" The man said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "So pay Allah's Rights, as He is more entitled to receive His rights." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6699)

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُخْتِي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ وَإِنَّهَا مَاتَتْ قَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَقَالَ فَاقْضُوا اللهَ؛ فَهُوَ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ

"أَرأيتَ لو كَان على أبيك دينٌ أكنْت قاضيه؟ قال: نعم، قال: فدين الله أحقُّ أَن يُقْضى ".

"أرأيتَ لو على كان أمِّك دَينٌ أَكُنْتَ قاضِيَه عنها؟ قال: نَعْم، قال: فدين الله أحقُّ أن يُقْضَى".

"عَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ: أَنَّ امْرَاةً أَتَتِ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ: يَارَسُولَ اللهِ! إَنَّ أُمِّى مَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تَحُجَّ فَيُجْزِى عَلَىَّ أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ: أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتِهِ أَكَانَ يُجْزِى عَنْهَا؟ قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى".

"عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْن جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ امْرَاةً نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ فَمَاتَتْ، فَأَتَى أَخُوهَا النَّبِىَّ ﷺ ، فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ ذَلكَ، فَقَالَ: أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكَ دَيْنٌ أَكنتَ قَاضِيه؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: فَالله أَحَقُ بِالْوفَاءِ".

"عَنْ سَعِيد بْن جُيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: أَتَتِ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ جهَيْنَةَ فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ الله إِنَّ أُمَى مَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تَحُجَ أَفَأَحُجّ عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ: أرَأيْتِ

لَوْ كانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتِهِ أَكَانَ يَجْزِى عَنْهَا؟ قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: فَدَيْنُ الله أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى".
