A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said to him, "My sister vowed to perform the Hajj, but she died (before fulfilling it)." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Would you not have paid her debts if she had any?" The man said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "So pay Allah's Rights, as He is more entitled to receive His rights."

أَتَى رَجُلٌ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنَّ أُخْتِي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ وَإِنَّهَا مَاتَتْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاقْضِ اللَّهَ فَهْوَ أَحَقُّ بِالْقَضَاءِ

A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: My mother has died, and fasts of a month are due from her. Thereupon he said: Don't you see that if debt was due from her, would you not pay it? She said: Yes (I would pay on her behalf). Thereupon he said: The debt of Allah deserves its payment more than (the payment of anyone else).

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ بِالْقَضَاءِ

A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, my mother has died (in a state) that she had to observe fasts of a month (of Ramadan). Should I complete (them) on her behalf? thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Would you not pay the debt if your mother had died (without paying it)? He said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) said: The debt of Allah deserves more that it should he paid.

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ عَنْهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ فَقَالَ الْحَكَمُ وَسَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ جَمِيعًا وَنَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ حِينَ حَدَّثَ مُسْلِمٌ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ فَقَالاَ سَمِعْنَا مُجَاهِدًا يَذْكُرُ هَذَا عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said (to him) that one month's fast was due from her mother who had died. May I fulfill them on her behalf? He asked: Suppose some debt was due from your mother, would you pay it ? She replied: Yes. He said: So the debt due to Allah is the one which most deserves to be paid.

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ قَاضِيَتَهُ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى

That he went to the Prophet and said: "O Messenger of Allah! My father is an elderly man who is not able to perform Hajj nor Umrah nor undertake a journey.' He said: 'Perform Hajj on behalf of your father and perform Umrah.'"

أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ الْحَجَّ وَلاَ الْعُمْرَةَ وَلاَ الظَّعْنَ قَالَ حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ وَاعْتَمِرْ

"O Messenger of Allah, my fater is an old man and he cannot perform Hajj or 'Umrah, nor can he travel." He said: "Perform Hajj and 'Umrah on behalf of your father."(sahih)

أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ الْحَجَّ وَلاَ الْعُمْرَةَ وَلاَ الظَّعْنَ قَالَ فَحُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ وَاعْتَمِرْ

"O Messenger of Allah! My father is an old man who cannot perform Hajj or 'Umrah, nor can he travel." He said "Perform Hajj and 'Umrah on behalf of your father."

أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ الْحَجَّ وَلاَ الْعُمْرَةَ وَالظَّعْنَ قَالَ حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ وَاعْتَمِرْ

"A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! My father has died and he did not perform Hajj; shall I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Don't you think that if your father owed a debt you would pay it off?' The man said: 'Yes.' He said: 'The debt owed to Allah is more deserving (of being paid off)."'

رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ

"A man came to the Prophet [SAW] and said: 'O Prophet of Allah, my father is an old man and cannot perform Hajj. If I put him on a mount he cannot sit firm. Can I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Perform Hajj on behalf of your father.'"

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ الْحَجَّ وَإِنْ حَمَلْتُهُ لَمْ يَسْتَمْسِكْ أَفَأَحُجَّ عَنْهُ قَالَ حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ سُلَيْمَانُ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنَ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ

A man came to the Prophet [SAW] and said: "My father is an old man, can I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said: "Yes. Don't you think that if he owed a debt and you paid it off, that would suffice him?"

أَنَّ رَجُلاً جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ أَكَانَ يُجْزِئُ عَنْهُ

“A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, my sister has died and she owed a fast of two consecutive months.’ He said: ‘Do you not think that if your sister owed a debt, you would pay it off for her?’ She said: ‘Of course.’ He said: ‘The right of Allah is greater.’”

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ قَالَتْ بَلَى قَالَ فَحَقُّ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ

“A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘Shall I perform Hajj on behalf of my father?’ He said: ‘Yes, perform Hajj on behalf of your father, for if you cannot add any good to his record (at least) you will not add anything bad.’”

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَحُجُّ عَنْ أَبِي قَالَ نَعَمْ حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَزِدْهُ خَيْرًا لَمْ تَزِدْهُ شَرًّا

“O Messenger of Allah, my father is an old man and he cannot perform Hajj or ‘Umrah, and he is not able to ride the mount (due to old age).” He said: “Perform Hajj and ‘Umrah on behalf of your father.”

أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ الْحَجَّ وَلاَ الْعُمْرَةَ وَلاَ الظَّعَنَ قَالَ حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ وَاعْتَمِرْ

"A man from Khath'am came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'My father is an old man who cannot ride, and the command of Allah to perform Hajj has come. Will it be good enough if I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Are you the oldest of his children?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Don't you think that if he owed a debt you would pay it off?, He' said: 'Yes.' He said: 'then perform Hajj on his behalf.'''(Daif) (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2638)

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي أَدْرَكَهُ الْإِسْلَامُ وَهُوَ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ رُكُوبَ الرَّحْلِ وَالْحَجُّ مَكْتُوبٌ عَلَيْهِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «أَنْتَ أَكْبَرُ وَلَدِهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ عَنْهُ أَكَانَ ذَلِكَ يُجْزِئُ عَنْهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاحْجُجْ عَنْهُ»

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my father is an old man who is unable to perform Hajj." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Have you considered if your father had a debt and you paid it off, would that be accepted from him?" He replied, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah is more merciful to perform Hajj on behalf of your father."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَحُجَّ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ عَنْهُ قُبِلَ مِنْهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «اللَّهُ أَرْحَمُ حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ»

a man asked the Prophet "The command of ) Hajj has come while my father is an old man and cannot sit firmly in his saddle; if I tie him (to the saddle) I fear that he will die. Can I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said: "don't you think that if your father owed a debt and you paid it off, that would be good enough?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then perform Hajj on behalf of your father. " (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2640)

أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي أَدْرَكَهُ الْإِسْلامُ وَهُوَ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَثْبُتُ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ عَنْهُ أَكَانَ يُجْزِيهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاحْجُجْ عَنْ أَبِيكَ

[AI] A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my mother has passed away and she had a missed fast from the month of Ramadan. Should I make it up for her?" He replied, "Would you not have paid off her debt if she had one?" She said, "Yes." He said, "So the debt owed to Allah ﷻ is more deserving to be paid off."

أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِي عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ أَمَا كُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ؟ قَالَتْ بَلَى قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللهِ ﷻ أَحَقُّ

[AI] O Messenger of Allah, her mother was fasting for a month and then she died. Should she fast on her behalf? He said, "If your mother had a debt, would you pay it off?" She said, "Yes." He said, "Then the debt owed to Allah deserves to be fulfilled."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ فَمَاتَتْ أَفَأَصُومُهُ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ قَاضِيَتَهُ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللهِ ﷻ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى

a woman vowed to perform Hajj but she died. Her brother came to the Prophet and asked him about that, he said: 'Do yhou think that if your sister owed a debt you wouold pay it off?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then fulfill the right of Allah, for He is more deserving that His rights should be fulfilled.''' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2632)

أَنْ تَحُجَّ فَمَاتَتْ فَأَتَى أَخُوهَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكَ دَيْنٌأَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاقْضُوا اللهَ ﷻ فَهُوَ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ

A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said (to him) that one month's fast was due from her mother who had died. May I fulfill them on her behalf? He asked: Suppose some debt was due from your mother, would you pay it ? She replied: Yes. He said: So the debt due to Allah is the one which most deserves to be paid. جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى

[AI] "A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'My sister made a vow to perform Hajj but she passed away. Should I fulfill it on her behalf?' The Prophet ﷺ asked, 'If she had a debt, would you pay it off?' The man said, 'Yes.' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'Then fulfilling obligations to Allah is even more deserving.'"

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُخْتِي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ وَقَدْ مَاتَتْ؟ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ تَقْضِيهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ

[AI] From the Prophet (PBUH) who said, "A woman came to him and said, 'Indeed, my mother has passed away and she had missed a month of fasting. Can I fast on her behalf?' He said, 'Would you have paid off her debt if she had one?' She replied, 'Yes.' He then said, 'Indeed, the debt owed to Allah is more deserving to be paid off.'"

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ أَتَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ فَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَكِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ كُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللهِ ﷻ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى

"A man from Khath'am came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'My father is an old man who cannot ride, and the command of Allah to perform Hajj has come. أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ وَلَا الظَّعْنَ قَالَ حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَوَاعْتَمِرْ

[AI] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my father is an old man who is unable to perform Hajj." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Have you ever thought about paying off any of your father's debts? If you did, wouldn't it be accepted from you?" The man replied, "Yes." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Verily, Allah is more merciful in fulfilling the duty of Hajj on behalf of your father."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَحُجَّ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَكَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ عَنْهُ قُبِلَ مِنْكَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ ﷺ فَاللهُ أَرْحَمُ حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ

“O Messenger of Allah, my father is an old man and he cannot perform Hajj or ‘Umrah, and he is not able to ride the mount (due to old age).” He said: “Perform Hajj and ‘Umrah on behalf of your father.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2906)

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "My father has passed away and did not perform Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "If your father had a debt, would you pay it off?" The man said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Then perform Hajj on behalf of your father."

أَنْ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجَّ عَنْهُ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوَ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ»

[AI] "A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'My sister has passed away and did not perform the Hajj. Can I perform Hajj on her behalf?' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'What do you think if she had a debt, would you pay it off for her? Indeed, Allah has more right to be fulfilled.'"

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تَحُجَّ* أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ ﷺ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوَ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ فَاللَّهُ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ»

[AI] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my father is an elderly man and is unable to perform Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Yes, perform Hajj on behalf of your father."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ الْحَجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ «نَعَمْ حُجَّ مَكَانَ أَبِيكَ»

[AI] "A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, my father is an elderly man who is unable to perform Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, 'Yes, perform Hajj on behalf of your father.'"

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ الْحَجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «نَعَمْ فَحُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ»

[AI] A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my mother has passed away and she had a fast to fulfill from a vow." The Prophet ﷺ said to her, "Were you her executor of debts if she had any?" She replied, "Yes." He said, "Then fast on behalf of your mother."

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمٌ مِنْ نَذْرٍ فَقَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَكُنْتِ قَاضِيَةً عَنْ أُمِّكِ دَيْنًا لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا؟ » قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَصُومِي عَنْ أُمِّكِ»

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "My father has passed away without performing the Hajj (pilgrimage). Should I perform it on his behalf?" The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Did your father have any outstanding debts that you have now paid off?" The man replied, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then perform the Hajj on behalf of your father."

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ أَقُضِيَ عَنْهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَحُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ»

[AI] He asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , saying, "Indeed, my father is an elderly man and has the status of a high-ranking Islamic scholar, but he is unable to travel unless accompanied. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Prophet remained silent for a while, then said, "Perform Hajj on behalf of your father."

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ وَعَلَيْهِ حَجَّةُ الْإِسْلَامِ وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يُسَافَرَ إِلَّا مَعْرُوضًا أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ فَصَمَتَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ»

[AI] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed my father is an elderly and weak man, and he has performed all the religious rituals of Islam except for Hajj, and he is not capable of traveling on a camel. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He replied, "Tell me, if your father had a debt, would you not repay it on his behalf?" I said, "Yes, I would." He said, "Then the debt of Allah is more deserving to be fulfilled."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ ضَعِيفٌ وَقَدْ عَمِلَ شَرَائِعَ الْإِسْلَامِ كُلَّهَا غَيْرَ الْحَجِّ وَلَا يَسْتَمْسِكُ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْ أَبِي؟ فَقَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى»

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my father is old and unable to perform Hajj. Can I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Prophet replied, "Do you think if your father had a debt, you would pay it off?" The man replied, "Yes." The Prophet then said, "Then perform Hajj on his behalf."

أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ كُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَحُجَّ عَنْهُ»

A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, my mother has died (in a state) that she had to observe fasts of a month (of Ramadan). Should I complete (them) on her behalf? thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Would you not pay the debt if your mother had died (without paying it)? He said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) said: The debt of Allah deserves more that it should he paid. (Using translation from Muslim 1148b)

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ عَنْهَا؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى» قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ فَقَالَ الْحَكَمُ وَسَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ وَنَحْنُ جَمِيعًا جُلُوسٌ حِينَ حَدَّثَ مُسْلِمٌ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ سَمِعْنَا مُجَاهِدًا يَذْكُرُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my mother had an obligation of fasting for a month and she passed away." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Would you not have fulfilled her debt if she owed someone money?" He replied, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then the debt of Allah deserves to be fulfilled even more."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولُ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي جَعَلَتْ عَلَيْهَا صَوْمَ شَهْرٍ وَإِنَّهَا مَاتَتْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ كُنْتَ تَقْضِيهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى»

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my father has died and did not perform Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Prophet replied, "If your father had a debt, would you pay it off?" The man answered, "Yes." The Prophet then said, "So the debt of Allah is more deserving to be paid off."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى»

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, my sister vowed to perform Hajj but she passed away before she could fulfill her vow. He said, "Do you think if your sister had a debt, would you pay it off?" He said, "Yes." He said, "So the debt owed to Allah is more deserving to be paid off for your sister's Hajj."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُخْتِي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ وَمَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تَحُجَّ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ تَقْضِيهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى حُجَّ عَنْ أُخْتِكَ»

[AI] A woman came from Juhaynah to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my mother has died without performing Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on her behalf?" He asked her, "If your mother had a debt, would you fulfill it for her?" She replied, "Yes." He said, "Then surely the debt owed to Allah is more deserving to be fulfilled."

أَتَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمُّكِ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتِهِ أَوَفِي ذَلِكَ عَنْهَا؟» قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى»

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Prophet of Allah, should I perform Hajj on behalf of my father?" The Prophet replied, "You are the greatest of his children." He said, "Yes." The Prophet said, "Then perform Hajj on his behalf."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ أَحُجُّ عَنْ أَبِي؟ فَقَالَ «أَنْتَ أَكْبَرُ وَلَدِهِ» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاحْجُجْ عَنْهُ»

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, indeed the obligation of Allah in performing Hajj has caught up with my elderly father who is unable to hold onto the mount. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said, "Yes, perform Hajj on behalf of your father."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَمْسِكَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ حُجِّي عَنْ أَبِيكِ»

"O Messenger of Allah, my fater is an old man and he cannot perform Hajj or 'Umrah, nor can he travel." He said: "Perform Hajj and 'Umrah on behalf of your father."(sahih) (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2621)

قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ وَلَا الظَّعْنَ قَالَ «حِجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ وَاعْتَمِرْ»

"O Messenger of Allah! My father is an old man who cannot perform Hajj or 'Umrah, nor can he travel." He said "Perform Hajj and 'Umrah on behalf of your father." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2637)

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ وَلَا الظَّعْنَ قَالَ «حِجَّ عَنْ أبِيكَ وَاعْتَمِرْ»

A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: My mother has died, and fasts of a month are due from her. Thereupon he said: Don't you see that if debt was due from her, would you not pay it? She said: Yes (I would pay on her behalf). Thereupon he said: The debt of Allah deserves its payment more than (the payment of anyone else). (Using translation from Muslim 1148a)

“A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, my sister has died and she owed a fast of two consecutive months.’ He said: ‘Do you not think that if your sister owed a debt, you would pay it off for her?’ She said: ‘Of course.’ He said: ‘The right of Allah is greater.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1758)

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتَكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ؟» قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَحَقُّ اللهِ أَحَقُّ»

"A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! My father has died and he did not perform Hajj; shall I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Don't you think that if your father owed a debt you would pay it off?' The man said: 'Yes.' He said: 'The debt owed to Allah is more deserving (of being paid off)."'
