4. Banū Hāshim (1/2)
He said, "O Messenger of Allah, your uncle Abu Talib used to protect and benefit you." He (Prophet Muhammad) said, "Indeed, he is in the lowest depths of Hell. If it were not for me, he would have been in the very bottom of Hell."
when a servant (of Allah) prostrates himself, the seven limbs, i.e, his face, his palms, his knees and his feet prostrate along with him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 891)
[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ with something similar to him.
[Machine] He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am your uncle. I have become old and my death is approaching. Teach me something that Allah will benefit me with." He said, "O Abbas, you are my uncle and I cannot benefit you in anything from Allah. But ask your Lord for forgiveness and well-being in this world and the Hereafter." He said it three times. Then he came to him at the end of his life and said the same thing.
[Machine] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I, your uncle, have grown old. Mention the significance of this."
ʿAbbas bin ʿAbdul Muttalib said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Did you benefit Abu Talib with anything as he used to protect and take care of you, and used to become angry for you?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes, he is in a shallow place of Fire. Were it not for me, he would have been in the bottom-most depth of the Fire." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6208)
when a servant (of Allah) prostrates himself, the seven limbs, i.e, his face, his palms, his knees and his feet prostrate along with him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 891)
[Machine] We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Al-Bat'ha, when a cloud passed by. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked us, "Do you know what this is?" We replied, "It is a cloud." He then asked, "And what about the muzn (rain)?". We replied, "It is the rain." He further asked, "And what about the 'anan (cumulus clouds)?" We remained silent. Then he asked, "Do you know how much distance is between the heavens and the earth?" We replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "Between them is a distance of a five hundred years' journey, and between each heaven and the next is a similar distance, and the thickness of each heaven is a five hundred years' journey. Above the seventh heaven is an ocean, as much as the distance between the heavens and the earth. Above that, there are eight Paradises, the space between each of the seven gates of which is like the distance between the heaven and the earth. Above all that, there is the Throne, the space between its bottom and top is like the distance between the heavens and the earth. And Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, is above the Throne, and nothing from the deeds of the children of Adam is hidden from Him."
This tradition has also been narrated on the authority of ‘A’ishah through a different chain. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 99)
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, when the Quraysh meet each other, they greet each other with a pleasant face. But when they meet us, they meet us with unfamiliar faces." The Prophet ﷺ became extremely angry and said, "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, faith does not enter the heart of a man until he loves you for the sake of Allah and His Messenger."
[Machine] Abbas entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Indeed, we go out and see Quraysh speaking, so he mentioned the conversation."
[Machine] I said to the Prophet ﷺ , "What prevented you from helping your uncle? He used to protect you and get angry for your sake." He said, "He is in a shallow pit of fire, and if it were not for me, he would have been in the lowest levels of Hell."
[Machine] I witnessed the Battle of Hunayn with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He said, "I saw the Prophet ﷺ and there was no one with him except me and Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith ibn Abd al-Muttalib. So we stayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and did not leave him. He was riding a white mule, or perhaps Mammar said it was a white horse, that Fahdah ibn Na'amah al-Judhami gave to him as a gift. When the Muslims met the polytheists, the Muslims turned to flee and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned his mule towards the polytheists. Abbas said, 'I will take hold of the reins of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ mule and control it.' So he did, and he did not give up those reins as fast as he could towards the polytheists. Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith took hold of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ by his belt. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'O Abbas, call out to the Ansar (helpers), 'O People of the Oath of Allegiance (Samarah)!' So I, being a man with a loud voice, said loudly, 'Where are the People of the Oath of Allegiance (Samarah)?' By Allah, when they heard my voice, they responded like the lowing of a cow for its calf, saying, 'Labbayka, Labbayka, Labbayka' (at your service!). Then the Muslims advanced and engaged in battle with the polytheists. The callers then called upon the Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj (the Ansar from the tribe of Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj) saying, 'O Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked back while still on his mule and said, 'This is the moment when the Abyssinians were defeated.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took some small stones and threw them at the faces of the polytheists. He said, 'They have been defeated, by the Lord of the Kaaba, they have been defeated, by the Lord of the Kaaba.' I looked and I saw that they continued to be defeated and their affair was in disarray until Allah caused their defeat. It is as if I am seeing the Prophet ﷺ riding his mule behind them."

[Machine] I heard Al-Zuhri once or twice and I didn't memorize it very well from Kathir ibn Abbas. He said that Abbas and Abu Sufyan were with him, meaning the Prophet ﷺ. He addressed them and said, "Now (the time has come for) Al-Watīs to be protected," and he called out, "O companions of Surah Al-Baqarah."

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry and veins popped up between his eyes. Then he said, "By Allah, faith does not enter the heart of a person until he loves you for the sake of Allah and for my kinship."

ʿUmar bin al-Khattab ؓ sent for me, and whilst I was like that, his freed slave Yarfaʿ came and said: ‘Uthman, ʿAbdur-Rahman, Sa’d and az-Zubair bin al-ʿAwwam are here - (the narrator) said: I do not know whether he mentioned Talhah or not - and they are asking for permission to enter upon you. He said: Let them in. Then after a while, (Yarfaʿ) came and said: al-ʿAbbas and ‘Ali are asking permission to enter upon you. He said: Let them in. When alʿAbbas came in, he said: O Ameer al-Muʿmineen, judge between me and this one. They had a dispute at that time concerning the fai’ (booty) that Allah had granted to His Messenger of the wealth of Banun-Nadeer, The people said: Judge between them, O Ameer al-Muʿmineen, and relieve each one of his opponent, for their dispute has gone on too long. ‘Umar ؓ said: I adjure you by Allah, by Whose Leave heaven and earth exist, do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “We are not to be inherited from; what we leave behind is charityʿ? They said: He did say that. He said: I shall tell you about that faiʿ; Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, gave something exclusively to His Prophet ﷺ that He did not give to anyone else. And he quoted the verse: ʿAnd what Allah gave as booty (Fai’) to His Messenger (Muhammad ﷺ) from them - for this you made no expedition with either cavalry or camelryʿ [al Hashr 59:6]. He said: ʿThis was exclusively for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and by Allah, he did not keep it to himself in exclusion of you and he did not prefer himself over you with regard to it. Rather he gave it to you and divided it among you until there was nothing left of it except this property. He spent on his familyʿs needs from this property for one year, then he took what was left and regarded it as the property of Allah. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, Abu Bakr said: ʿI am the successor of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I shall deal with it as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dealt with it. [Machine] While I was sitting with him, his eyebrow twitched, so he asked Umar, "Do you have permission from Uthman, Abdur Rahman, Saad, and Zubair to see me?" Umar replied, "Yes, I have given them permission." So they entered, greeted him, and sat down. Then his eyebrow twitched again, and he asked Umar, "Do you have permission from Ali and Abbas?" Umar replied, "Yes, I have given them permission." So when they entered upon him, they sat down, and Abbas said, "O Amir al-Mu'minin, settle the matter between Ali and me." The group of companions and their friends said, "Settle the matter between them, and let one of them have respite from the other." Umar said, "Wait, I swear to you by Allah, by whose permission the heavens and the earth stand, do you not know that the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, 'We do not inherit what we leave behind, it is all charity.'" The group said, "Indeed, he said that." Umar then went to Ali and Abbas and said, "I swear to you by Allah, do you not know that the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said that?" They replied, "Indeed, he said that." Umar said, "I will inform you about this matter. Allah has granted His Messenger something He did not grant to anyone else. Allah says, 'And what Allah gave to His Messenger from them, you did not press for it.' This verse is specific to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ . And I swear by Allah, the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , never hoarded or favored himself with this wealth over you. He gave it to you and distributed it among you, until only this amount remained. And the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , spent on his family the same amount that they used to spend from this wealth, and then he took what was left and dedicated it as the wealth of Allah. And the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , acted in this manner his whole life. I swear to you by Allah, do you know that?" They said, "Yes, we know that." Then the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , passed away, and Abu Bakr said, "I am the guardian of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ ." So Abu Bakr took charge of it and used it as the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , did. And you, at that time, went to Ali and Abbas accusing Abu Bakr of doing something, and Allah knows best that he was truthful, righteous, and guided by the truth.

[Machine] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I can supplicate with." He said, "Ask Allah for forgiveness and well-being." Then I went to him again and said, "O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I can supplicate with." He said, "O Abbas, O my uncle, ask Allah for well-being in this world and the Hereafter."
[Machine] I entered upon the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , while his wives were with him, so they covered themselves from me except for Maymunah. He said, "No one shall remain in the house who witnessed the Battle of Al-Ludd except for Ludd, unless you permit me, O Abul'Abbas." Then, he said, "Command Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." Aisha said to Hafsah, "Tell him that Abu Bakr is a man who, when he stands in your place, cries." He commanded them to tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer, so he stood and performed the prayer. The Prophet, ﷺ , found it to be light, so he came and nudged Abu Bakr. He intended to delay but he sat beside him, then he burped.

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said during his illness, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." So Abu Bakr came out, performed the takbeer, and found that the Prophet ﷺ felt relieved. Then he went between two men to support himself and when Abu Bakr saw him, he stepped back and the Prophet ﷺ motioned to him, saying, "Stay where you are." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then sat next to Abu Bakr and recited from the place to which Abu Bakr had reached in the surah.
[Machine] I was with the Prophet ﷺ one night, and he said, "Look, do you see any star in the sky?" I said, "Yes." He said, "What do you see?" I said, "I see the Pleiades." He said, "Verily, it is following this Ummah (nation) with its number from your lineage, and two of them will be in a fitnah (trial or turmoil)."
[Machine] Then, a woman came out from that same hiding place from which the man came out and stood behind him to pray. Then, a young boy came out after he woke up from the dream and stood with him to pray. I said to Al-Abbas, "Who is this, O Abbas?" He said, "This is Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib, the son of his uncle." I said, "Who is this woman?" He said, "This is his wife Khadijah, the daughter of Khuwaylid." I said, "Who is this young boy?" He said, "This is Ali bin Abi Talib, his cousin." I said, "So, what does he do?" He said, "He prays, and he claims that he is a prophet, and no one followed him except his wife and his cousin, this young boy. And he claims that treasures of Kisra and Qaysar will be opened up for him." He said, "He was truthful, and he is the cousin of Ash'ath bin Qays who used to say, 'If Allah granted me Islam on that day, I would be the third with Ali bin Abi Talib.'"
[Machine] Al-Abbas conveyed to him ﷺ some things that people say. He ascended the pulpit and said, "Who am I?" They said, "You are the Messenger of Allah." He said, "I am Muhammad, son of Abdullah, son of Abdul-Muttalib. Indeed, Allah created creation and made me among the best of His creation. And He made them into two groups, so He made me in the best group. And He created tribes, so He made me in the best tribe. And He made them into houses, so He made me in their best house. So, I am the best of you with regard to houses, and the best of you with regard to souls."
[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, did Abu Talib benefit from anything? For he used to protect you and become angry on your behalf." He (the Prophet) said, "Yes, he is in a shallow part of Hellfire. If it were not for that, he would have been in the lowest level of Hellfire."
[Machine] "And by Allah, it is the very spot that the Prophet ﷺ placed it." Umar said to Abbas, "I am determined to have you place it in the same spot where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed it." So Abbas did that.
4.2 [Machine] Musnad Al-Fadl ibn Abbas narrating from the Prophet ﷺ
he was riding behind the Prophet and he continued to recite the Talbiyah until he stoned the Jamrat. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3055)
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Prophet ﷺ recited Talbiyah until he stoned ‘Aqabah Pillar. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3039)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ performed his Hajj with the company of Al-Fadl ibn Abbas. Ata narrated to me that Ibn Abbas informed him that Al-Fadl informed him that the Prophet ﷺ continued to perform the Talbiyah until he threw the pebbles at the Jamrah.
"The Messenger of Allah said to the people when they moved on the evening of Arafat and the morning of Jam' (assembly at Al-Muzdalifah): 'You must have tranquility.' He was reining in his camel, and when he entered Mina, he came down to Muhassir and said: 'You have to pick up pebbles the size of date stones of fingertips with which to stone the Jamrat.' And he (Al-Fadl) said: 'And the Prophet gestured with his hand like a man throwing a pebble.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3052)
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood in the Kaaba and glorified Allah, praised Him, and supplicated to Him, seeking His forgiveness, without bowing or prostrating.
Ibn 'Abbas narrated from al-Fadl b. Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) who sat behind Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he (the Holy Prophet) said to the people on the evening of 'Arafa and on the morning to the gathering of people (at Muzdalifa) as they were pushing on to proceed slowly. And he himself drove his she-camel with restraint until he entered Muhassir (it is a place in Mina), and further told them to take up pebbles which were to be thrown at Jamra. And Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued pronouncing Talbiya till he stoned the Jamra. (Using translation from Muslim 1282a)
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺvisited Al Abbas in some land of ours outside the city, and we had a small dog and a donkey which was grazing. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Asr and they were in front of him, and they were not shooed away or pushed away." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 753)
he was riding behind the Prophet and he continued to recite the Talbiyah until he stoned the Jamrat. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3055)
Messenger of Allah (S) said: "As-Salat is two and two, with a Tashahhud for every two Rakʿah, with humility, imploring, having a sense of tranquility, pleading and showing helplessness and stretching out your hand" - he said: raising them - "to your Lord, with the insides of them facing your face, saying: 'O Lord! O Lord! And whoever does not do this, then it is like this or that." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 385)
[Machine] Al-Fadl ibn Abbas, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ overflowed and I was with him, so we reached the valley and he stopped, performed ablution, and then we rode until we reached Muzdalifah.
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not pray inside the Kaaba, but when he entered it, he prostrated between the pillars, then he sat down and supplicated.
[Machine] "Indeed, it was the habit of the Prophet ﷺ that when he finished the gathering, he would leave while being calm. It was narrated that Ibn Abu Layla informed us, from Ata, from Ibn Abbas, who informed us that Al-Fadl bin Abbas said: 'I witnessed the two rituals of Rami (stoning) with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he stoned the Jamarat Al-Aqaba.'"
[Machine] About Fadl ibn Abbas, who was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and was with him during his farewell pilgrimage. He said, "When the Prophet ﷺ departed from Arafat, he saw people putting down their weapons and animals. He then commanded his announcer to proclaim, 'Righteousness is not in putting down horses and camels, rather it is in maintaining tranquility.'"
[Machine] Ayesha and Umm Salamah, the wives of the Prophet (PBUH), said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) would sometimes wake up in a state of impurity and would take a bath before praying Fajr (morning prayer), and then he would observe fasting that day. Ayesha mentioned this to Abu Huraira, who responded saying, "I do not know, did Al-Fadl ibn Abbas inform me of this."

[Machine] I was in the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from Jamm to Mina. While we were walking, a Bedouin came towards him, leading his beautiful daughter.
