A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said to him, "My sister vowed to perform the Hajj, but she died (before fulfilling it)." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Would you not have paid her debts if she had any?" The man said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "So pay Allah's Rights, as He is more entitled to receive His rights."

أَتَى رَجُلٌ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنَّ أُخْتِي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ وَإِنَّهَا مَاتَتْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاقْضِ اللَّهَ فَهْوَ أَحَقُّ بِالْقَضَاءِ

"A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! My father has died and he did not perform Hajj; shall I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Don't you think that if your father owed a debt you would pay it off?' The man said: 'Yes.' He said: 'The debt owed to Allah is more deserving (of being paid off)."'

رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ

A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said (to him) that one month's fast was due from her mother who had died. May I fulfill them on her behalf? He asked: Suppose some debt was due from your mother, would you pay it ? She replied: Yes. He said: So the debt due to Allah is the one which most deserves to be paid.

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ قَاضِيَتَهُ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى

[Machine] "A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'My sister made a vow to perform Hajj but she passed away. Should I fulfill it on her behalf?' The Prophet ﷺ asked, 'If she had a debt, would you pay it off?' The man said, 'Yes.' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'Then fulfilling obligations to Allah is even more deserving.'"

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُخْتِي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ وَقَدْ مَاتَتْ؟ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ تَقْضِيهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ

A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said (to him) that one month's fast was due from her mother who had died. May I fulfill them on her behalf? جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى

[Machine] O Messenger of Allah, her mother was fasting for a month and then she died. Should she fast on her behalf? He said, "If your mother had a debt, would you pay it off?" She said, "Yes." He said, "Then the debt owed to Allah deserves to be fulfilled."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ فَمَاتَتْ أَفَأَصُومُهُ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكِ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ قَاضِيَتَهُ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللهِ ﷻ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى

[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my father is an old man who is unable to perform Hajj." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Have you considered if your father had a debt and you paid it off, would that be accepted from him?" He replied, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah is more merciful to perform Hajj on behalf of your father."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَحُجَّ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ عَنْهُ قُبِلَ مِنْهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «اللَّهُ أَرْحَمُ حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ»

[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "My father has passed away and did not perform Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "If your father had a debt, would you pay it off?" The man said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Then perform Hajj on behalf of your father."

أَنْ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجَّ عَنْهُ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوَ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ»

[Machine] "A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'My sister has passed away and did not perform the Hajj. Can I perform Hajj on her behalf?' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'What do you think if she had a debt, would you pay it off for her? Indeed, Allah has more right to be fulfilled.'"

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تَحُجَّ* أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ ﷺ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوَ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ فَاللَّهُ أَحَقُّ بِالْوَفَاءِ»

[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "My father has passed away without performing the Hajj (pilgrimage). Should I perform it on his behalf?" The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Did your father have any outstanding debts that you have now paid off?" The man replied, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then perform the Hajj on behalf of your father."

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ أَقُضِيَ عَنْهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَحُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ»

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed my father is an elderly and weak man, and he has performed all the religious rituals of Islam except for Hajj, and he is not capable of traveling on a camel. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He replied, "Tell me, if your father had a debt, would you not repay it on his behalf?" I said, "Yes, I would." He said, "Then the debt of Allah is more deserving to be fulfilled."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ ضَعِيفٌ وَقَدْ عَمِلَ شَرَائِعَ الْإِسْلَامِ كُلَّهَا غَيْرَ الْحَجِّ وَلَا يَسْتَمْسِكُ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْ أَبِي؟ فَقَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى»

"A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! My father has died and he did not perform Hajj; shall I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Don't you think that if your father owed a debt you would pay it off?' The man said: 'Yes.' He said: 'The debt owed to Allah is more deserving (of being paid off)."' قَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ»

A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: My mother has died, and fasts of a month are due from her. Thereupon he said: Don't you see that if debt was due from her, would you not pay it? She said: Yes (I would pay on her behalf). Thereupon he said: The debt of Allah deserves its payment more than (the payment of anyone else). (Using translation from Muslim 1148a)

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَصُومُ عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ تَقْضِيهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى»

"أَرأيتَ لو كَان على أبيك دينٌ أكنْت قاضيه؟ قال: نعم، قال: فدين الله أحقُّ أَن يُقْضى ".

"أرأيتَ لو على كان أمِّك دَينٌ أَكُنْتَ قاضِيَه عنها؟ قال: نَعْم، قال: فدين الله أحقُّ أن يُقْضَى".

"عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ: يَا نَبِىَّ الله إِنَّ أبِى مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَحُجَ أَفَأحُجّ عَنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ : أَرَأيتَ أَن لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيهُ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: فَحَقُ الله أَحَقُّ".

" عَنْ سَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زُمْعَةَ قَالَتْ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ! إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ، قَالَ: أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ قَضَيْتَهُ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَإِنَّ اللهَ أَرْحَم، حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ".
