10.11 [Machine] From the narration of Samurah bin Jundub, about the Prophet ﷺ.

١٠۔١١ ومن حديث سمرة بن جندب، عن النبي ﷺ

[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ used to remain silent twice, when he entered into prayer and when he finished reciting. Imran ibn Husain condemned this, so they wrote to Ubay ibn Ka'b to ask him about it. He responded that Samurah told the truth."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٢٨حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَسْكُتُ سَكْتَتَيْنِ إِذَادَخَلَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنَ الْقِرَاءَةِ فَأَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ فَكَتَبُوا إِلَى أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ يَسْأَلُونَهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَكَتَبَ أَنْ صَدَقَ سَمُرَةُ

[Machine] And Sumarah said, "I made my sword like the sword of the Prophet ﷺ , and he was Hanafi."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٢٩حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْكَاتِبُ قَالَ قَالَ لِي ابْنُ سِيرِينَ صَنَعْتُ سَيْفِي عَلَى سَيْفِ سَمُرَةَ

وَقَالَ سَمُرَةُ صَنَعْتُ سَيْفِي عَلَى سَيْفِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَكَانَ حَنَفِيًّا

The Prophet ﷺ said: Kill the old men who are polytheists, but spare their children. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2670)  

أحمد:٢٠٢٣٠حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَرْطَاةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اقْتُلُوا شُيُوخَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَاسْتَبْقُوا شَرْخَهُمْ

"We were with the Prophet at a funeral, and he said: 'I there anyone from banu so and so here? He said this three times. Then a man stood up, and he said to him: 'What kept you form answering the first two times? I am not going to say anything but good to you, so and so (mentioning the name of a man from among them) has died and he is being detained (from entering Paradise) because of his debt."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4685)   

أحمد:٢٠٢٣١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ سَمْعَانَ بْنِ مُشَنَّجٍ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ قَالَ

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي جَنَازَةٍ فَقَالَ أَهَاهُنَا مِنْ بَنِي فُلَانٍ أَحَدٌ؟ قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا مَنَعَكَ فِي الْمَرَّتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ أَنْ تَكُونَ أَجَبْتَنِي؟ أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أُنَوِّهْ بِكَ إِلَّا لِخَيْرٍ إِنَّ فُلَانًا لِرَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ إِنَّهُ مَأْسُورٌ بِدَيْنِهِ قَالَ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ أَهْلَهُ وَمَنْ يَتَحَزَّنُ لَهُ قَضَوْا عَنْهُ حَتَّى مَا جَاءَ أَحَدٌ يَطْلُبُهُ بِشَيْءٍ

[Machine] About Al-Sha'bi, he mentioned this narration, so I narrated it to my father, and he said, "I have not heard it from Wakīʿ."

"The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: 'You should wear white garments; dress your living ones in them, and shroud your dead in them, for they are among the best of your garments.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 5323)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَيْكُمْ بِهَذَا الْبَيَاضِ فَيَلْبَسُهُ أَحْيَاؤكُمْ وَقَالَ رَوْحٌ فَلْيَلْبَسْهُ أَحْيَاؤُكُمْ وَكَفِّنُوا فِيهِ مَوْتَاكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ خَيْرِ ثِيَابِكُمْ

عَنْ وُهَيْبٍ أَيْضًا لَيْسَ فِيهِ أَبُو الْمُهَلَّبِ

the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade selling animals for animals on credit. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2270)   

أحمد:٢٠٢٣٧حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ بَيْعِ الْحَيَوَانِ بِالْحَيَوَانِ نَسِيئَةً

[Machine] The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever puts a wall around a piece of land, it belongs to him."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٣٨حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ حَاطَ حَائِطًا عَلَى أَرْضٍ فَهِيَ لَهُ

[Machine] He said, "Whoever encompasses  

أحمد:٢٠٢٣٩حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ مِثْلَهُ إِلَّا

أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَنْ أَحَاطَ  

ahmad:20240Zakariyyā b. ʿAdī > ʿUbaydullāh > ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr > Ḥuṣayn b. Qabīṣahaʿan Samurah b. Jundub

[Machine] An Arab man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was delivering a sermon, but he interrupted him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about the mist?" He replied, "A nation from the Children of Israel was transformed, so only Allah knows which animal they were transformed into."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٤٠حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عَدِيٍّ أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ قَبِيصَةَعَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ قَالَ

سَأَلَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ فَقَطَعَ عَلَيْهِ خُطْبَتَهُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا تَقُولُ فِي الضِّبَابِ؟ فَقَالَ مُسِخَتْ أُمَّةٌ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ فَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ فِي أَيِّ الدَّوَابِّ مُسِخَتْ

”The two parties to a transaction have the choice (of annulling it) so long as they have not yet parted." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2182)  

أحمد:٢٠٢٤١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْبَيِّعَانِ بِالْخِيَارِ مَا لَمْ يَتَفَرَّقَا  

ahmad:20242ʿAbd al-Ṣamad And ʿAffān > Ḥammād b. Salamah > al-Ashʿath b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman al-Jarmī from his father > Samurah b. Jundub > a man

This tradition has also been transmitted by Sa'd (b. Abi Waqqas) from the Prophet ﷺ in a similar manner through a different chain of narrators. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1470)   

أحمد:٢٠٢٤٢حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ وَعَفَّانُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَشْعَثُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْجَرْمِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to remain silent when he entered into prayer and when he finished recitation. Imran ibn Husayn disapproved of this and wrote to Ubayy ibn Ka'b. He wrote back to them affirming that Samurah was truthful.  

أحمد:٢٠٢٤٣حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَسْكُتُ سَكْتَتَيْنِ إِذَا دَخَلَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنَ الْقِرَاءَةِ فَأَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ وَكَتَبُوا إِلَى أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَنْ صَدَقَ سَمُرَةُ

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said "The dearest phrases to Allah are four: Subhan Allah (Hallowed be Allah), Al-Hamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illa-Allah (There is no deity but Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greater). There is no harm for you in which of them begin with (while remembering Allah). And do not give these names to your servants: Yasar and Rabah and Najih and Aflah. (Using translation from Muslim 2137a)  

أحمد:٢٠٢٤٤حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ عَنْ رَبِيعِ بْنِ عُمَيْلَةَ الْفَزَارِيِّ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَحَبُّ الْكَلَامِ إِلَى اللهِ أَرْبَعٌ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ لَا يَضُرُّكَ بِأَيِّهِنَّ بَدَأْتَ وَلَا تُسَمِّيَنَّ غُلَامَكَ يَسَارًا وَلَا رَبَاحًا وَلَا نَجِيحًا وَلَا أَفْلَحَفَإِنَّكَ تَقُولُ أَثَمَّ هُوَ فَلَا يَكُونُ فَيَقُولُ لَا إِنَّمَا هُنَّ أَرْبَعٌ فَلَا تَزِيدُنَّ عَلَيَّ

I remember two period of silence in prayer, one when the imam said the takbir; and one when he finished reciting the Fatihah and the surah when he was about to bow. But Imran ibn Husayn took it as something strange. So they wrote about it to Ubayy (ibn Ka'b) in Medina. He verified the statement of Samurah. Abu Dawud said: Humaid also narrated in this tradition the words "and one period silence when he finished the recitation (of the Qur'an)" (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 777)   

أحمد:٢٠٢٤٥حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ قَالَ

سَمُرَةُ حَفِظْتُ سَكْتَتَيْنِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ سَكْتَةٌ إِذَا كَبَّرَ الْإِمَامُ حَتَّى يَقْرَأَ وَسَكْتَةٌ إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ قِرَاءَةِ فَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَةٍ عِنْدَ الرُّكُوعِ قَالَ فَأَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ فَكَتَبُوا إِلَى أُبَيٍّ فِي ذَلِكَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ فَصَدَقَ سَمُرَةُ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said: "It is about to come to pass that Allah will fill your hands with non-Arabs, and then Allah will make them lions that do not flee. They will fight against you and consume your wealth."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٤٦حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَمْلَأَاللهُ أَيْدِيَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَعَاجِمِ ثُمَّ يَجْعَلُهُمُ اللهُ أُسْدًا لَا يَفِرُّونَ فَيَقْتُلُونَ مُقَاتِلَتَكُمْ وَيَأْكُلُونَ فَيْئَكُمْ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Soon Allah will fill your hands, so remember the like of it."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٤٧حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَمْلَأَ اللهُ أَيْدِيَكُمْ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ  

ahmad:20248ʿAffān > Ḥammād b. Salamah > Yūnus > al-Ḥasan > Samurah b. Jundub

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Soon Allah will fill your hands with riches from the non-Arabs, and then they will become fierce like lions, not fleeing from battle, killing your warriors and consuming your wealth."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٤٨حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ تُوشِكُونَ أَنْ يَمْلَأَ اللهُ أَيْدِيَكُمْ مِنَ الْعَجَمِ ثُمَّ يَكُونُوا أُسْدًا لَا يَفِرُّونَ فَيَقْتُلُونَ مُقَاتِلَتَكُمْ وَيَأْكُلُونَ فَيْئَكُمْ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said and mentioned something similar to it.

[Machine] "From the Prophet ﷺ, similar to him."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٥٠وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِثْلَهُ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The neighbor has the most right to be treated well."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٥١حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ وَحُمَيْدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ الْجَارُ أَحَقُّ بِالْجِوَارِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The two parties in a transaction have the option (to cancel) as long as they have not separated (from each other), or until one of them has taken what was agreed upon in the transaction."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٥٢حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ الْبَيِّعَانِ بِالْخِيَارِ مَا لَمْ يَتَفَرَّقَا أَوْ يَأْخُذْ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا مَا رَضِيَ مِنَ الْبَيْعِ  

ahmad:20253Ismāʿīl And Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar > Saʿīd > Qatādah > al-Ḥasaniʿan Samurah b. Jundub

The Prophet ﷺ as saying: Life tenancy is permissible. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3548)  

أحمد:٢٠٢٥٤حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ الْعُمْرَى جَائِزَةٌ

"The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: 'The middle Salat is Salat Al-'Asr.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2983)   

أحمد:٢٠٢٥٥حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ صَلَاةُ الْوُسْطَى صَلَاةُ الْعَصْرِ

[Machine] The Prophet of Allah ﷺ used to say, "Every newborn boy is held hostage by his 'Aqiqah (sacrificial offering). It is slaughtered on his seventh day, he is shaved, and his head is anointed with fragrance."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٥٦حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَقُولُ كُلُّ غُلَامٍ رَهِينَةٌ بِعَقِيقَتِهِ تُذْبَحُ يَوْمَ سَابِعِهِ وَيُحْلَقُ وَيُدَمَّى  

ahmad:20257ʿAffān > Hammām > Bishr b. Ḥarb > Samurah b. Jundub

[Machine] I consider that one who forgets a prayer should perform it once they remember, even if it is after the time for it has passed.  

أحمد:٢٠٢٥٧حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ قَالَ

أَحْسَبُهُ مَرْفُوعًا مَنْ نَسِيَ صَلَاةً فَلْيُصَلِّهَا حِينَ يَذْكُرُهَا وَمِنَ الْغَدِ لِلْوَقْتِ  

ahmad:20258Yūnus And Surayj > Ḥammād > Bishr > Samurah

[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He is like him."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٥٨حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ وَسُرَيْجٌ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ بِشْرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِثْلَهُ

“Whoever performs ablution on Friday, it is well and good for him, and he has done what is obligatory for him. But whoever takes a bath, bath is better.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1091)   

أحمد:٢٠٢٥٩حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَبِهَا وَنِعْمَتْ وَمَنْ اغْتَسَلَ فَذَلِكَ أَفْضَلُ

The rain was falling on the day when the Battle of Hunayn took place. The Prophet ﷺ, therefore, commanded that the people should offer their prayer in their camps. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1057)

أَنَّ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ كَانَ يَوْمًا مَطِيرًا فَأَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مُنَادِيَهُ أَنَّ الصَّلَاةَ فِي الرِّحَالِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Quran was revealed in three different dialects. Affaan said it was revealed once."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ نَزَلَ الْقُرْآنُ عَلَى ثَلَاثَةِ أَحْرُفٍ قَالَ عَفَّانُ مَرَّةً أُنْزِلَ الْقُرْآنُ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When two men marry the same woman, the first one has more right. And when two men compete to buy something, the first one has more right."  

أحمد:٢٠٢٦٣حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ أَخْبَرَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا تَزَوَّجَ الرَّجُلَانِ الْمَرْأَةَ فَالْأَوَّلُ أَحَقُّ وَإِذَا اشْتَرَى الرَّجُلَانِ الْبَيْعَ فَالْأَوَّلُ أَحَقُّ

the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade selling animals for animals on credit. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2270)  

أحمد:٢٠٢٦٤حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ أَخْبَرَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ الْحَيَوَانِ بِالْحَيَوَانِ نَسِيئَةً

The Prophet ﷺ said: Acts of begging are lacerations with which a man disfigures his face, so he who wishes may preserve his self-respect, and he who wishes may abandon it; but this does not apply to one who begs from a ruler, or in a situation which makes it necessary. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1639)   

أحمد:٢٠٢٦٥حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ عُقْبَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَمُرَةَ بْنَ جُنْدُبٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمَسَائِلُ كُدُوحٌ يَكْدَحُ بِهَا الرَّجُلُ وَجْهَهُ فَمَنْ شَاءَ أَبْقَى عَلَى وَجْهِهِ وَمَنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْأَلَ الرَّجُلُ ذَا سُلْطَانٍ أَوْ يَسْأَلَ فِي الْأَمْرِ لَا يَجِدُ مِنْهُ بُدًّا قَالَ فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ الْحَجَّاجَ فَقَالَ سَلْنِي فَإِنِّي ذُو سُلْطَانٍ

[Machine] He used to remain silent for a while after he finished praying with them. And when he recited the verse "Not the path of those who have evoked [Your] anger" (Al-Fatiha 7), he remained silent for a short moment. They objected to this, so he wrote to Ubay ibn Ka'b and Ubay wrote back to them that what Samurah did was correct.  

أحمد:٢٠٢٦٦حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا مَنْصُورٌ وَيُونُسُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا صَلَّى بِهِمْ سَكَتَ سَكْتَتَيْنِ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا قَالَ {وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ} [الفاتحة 7] سَكَتَ أَيْضًا هُنَيَّةً فَأَنْكَرُوا ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ فَكَتَبَ إِلَى أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِمْ أُبَيٌّ أَنَّ الْأَمْرَ كَمَا صَنَعَ سَمُرَةُ

[Machine] "When he finished reciting the surah"  

أحمد:٢٠٢٦٧حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ قَالَ

وَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ قِرَاءَةِ السُّورَةِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed two units of prayer with us during the solar eclipse, and we did not hear him say anything in them.  

أحمد:٢٠٢٦٨حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا سَلَّامُ بْنُ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ قَالَ

صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي كُسُوفِ الشَّمْسِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ لَا نَسْمَعُ لَهُ فِيهِمَا صَوْتًا
