[Machine] On the authority of Sahl ibn Saad al-Saadi, companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and said, "Verily, the Banu Amr ibn Auf have fought and pelted each other with stones." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to them to reconcile between them, and it was time for prayer. Bilal came to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and said, "Shall I establish the prayer and call the prayer?" Abu Bakr replied, "Yes." So Bilal established the prayer, and Abu Bakr went forward. When he entered the prayer and the people lined up behind him, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came from where he had gone and started passing through the rows until he reached the first row. Then he stopped and caused the people to clap their hands to get Abu Bakr's attention, so they could give him permission to give the call to prayer for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Abu Bakr did not turn during the prayer, but when they persisted in clapping, he did turn and found the Messenger of Allah ﷺ behind him with the people. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gestured to Abu Bakr to remain standing, then he raised his hands as if he was supplicating, then he delayed the recitation of Surah Al-Qaari'ah until he arrived. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went ahead and led the people in prayer. When he finished his prayer, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What is the matter with you, and why did you start clapping? When something happens to one of you in your prayer, let him say 'Subhan Allah,' for indeed, glorification is for men and clapping is for women." Then he said to Abu Bakr, "Why did you raise your hands? What prevented you from remaining still when I gestured to you?" Abu Bakr replied, "I raised my hands because I praised you for what I saw of you, and it was not appropriate for Ibn Abi Quhafah to lead the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in prayer."

Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and started passing through the rows of people until he stood behind Abu Bakr, and the people clapped. Abu Bakr was such that whenever he started praying, he would never glance sideways, but when he noticed that the clapping persisted he turned around. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gestured to him to carry on praying. Abu Bakr praised Allah the Mighty and Sublime for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ having told him to continue. Then Abu Bakr moved backward on his heels, and when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw that, he came forward and led the people in prayer. When he completed the prayer he said: 'O Abu Bakr, when I gestured to you, what kept you from continuing (to lead the people)?' He said: 'It does not befit the son of Abu Quhafah to lead the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in prayer.' And he (the Prophet) said to the people: 'If you notice something (during the prayer), men should say Subhan Allah and women should clap.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 793)

[Machine] I was in a circle of the Ansar. Some of us would cover themselves with a part of their clothing, and we had a reader who would recite the Book of Allah to us. While we were listening to the Quran, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and sat among us to count himself as one of us. The reader stopped and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "What were you saying?" We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we had a reader who would recite the Book of Allah to us." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ , raising his hand and gesturing with it towards himself, said, "By the One in whose Hand is my soul, he made them turn away from themselves to him and said, 'shave your heads'. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ advised him, "Do not hasten, wait until your wound heals." However, the man insisted on seeking revenge, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ allowed him to do so. Later on, the one seeking revenge recovered and the one being sought for revenge came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked, "O Messenger of Allah, I sought revenge and my companion has healed?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Did I not command you not to seek revenge until your wound healed? But you disobeyed me, so may Allah distance you from His mercy and may your wound cease to hurt." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ issued a command that anyone with a wound should not seek revenge until their wound heals, and only then may they seek retaliation.

ahmad:4041Abū Muʿāwiyah And Ibn Numayr > al-Aʿmash > Shaqīq

[Machine] We were sitting by the door of Abdullah, waiting for him to give us permission. Then, Yazid ibn Muawiyah al-Nakha'i came and entered upon him. We said to him, "Inform him of our presence." So he entered and informed him. He did not take long before coming out to us and said, "I know your location, so I leave you on pillars fearing that I might impose on you. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to visit us for admonition in the days out of fear for us."

ahmad:4060Jarīr > Manṣūr > Abū Wāʾil

[Machine] Abdullah used to remind us every Thursday, so it was said to him, "We wish you would remind us every day." He said, "I dislike burdening you. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to spare us from lengthy admonitions and lectures that may bore us."

ahmad:3587ʿAbdullāh b. Idrīs > al-Aʿmash Yarwī > Shaqīq

[Machine] Abdullah used to come to us and say, "I want to inform you about your location. The only thing that prevents me from coming to you is my dislike for the fact that I might become your master. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah used to visit us with advice, which we disliked, during certain days."

ahmad:4439ʿAbīdah / Ibn Ḥumayd > Manṣūr > Abū Wāʾil

[Machine] Abdullah used to remind us every Thursday or Monday. So we said, or it was said, "O Abu Abdur-Rahman, we love your speeches and desire them, and we wish that you remind us every day." So Abdullah said, "Nothing prevents me from doing that except my dislike of burdening you. However, I do urge you with admonition, just as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to urge us."
