"We were with Fadalah bin 'Ubaid in the land of the Romans, and a companion of ours died. Fadalah ordered that his grave be made level, then he said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah commanding that it be made level."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2030)   

أحمد:٢٣٩٣٦ – حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ثُمَامَةُ بْنُ شُفَيٍّ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ قَالَ غَزَوْنَا أَرْضَ الرُّومِ وَعَلَى ذَلِكَ الْجَيْشِ فَضَالَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فَقَالَ فَضَالَةُ خَفِّفُوا فَإِنِّي

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَأْمُرُ بِتَسْوِيَةِ الْقُبُورِ

When we were with Fadala b. 'Ubaid in the country of the Romans at a place (known as) Rudis, a friend of ours died. Fadala b. 'Ubaid ordered to prepare a grave for him and then it was levelled; and then he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanding (us) to level the grave.

abudawud:3219 – Aḥmad b. ʿAmr b. al-Sarḥ > Ibn Wahb > ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith > Abū ʿAlī al-Hamdānī

We were with Fudalah b. 'Ubaid at Rudis in the land of Rome. One of our Companions dies, Fudalah commanded us to dig his grave; it was (dug and) levelled. He then said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanding to level them. Abu Dawud said: Rudis is an island, in the sea.  

أبو داود:٣٢١٩ – حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ أَنَّ أَبَا عَلِيٍّ الْهَمْدَانِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ بِرُودِسَ مِنْ أَرْضِ الرُّومِ فَتُوُفِّيَ صَاحِبٌ لَنَا فَأَمَرَ فَضَالَةُ بِقَبْرِهِ فَسُوِّيَ ثُمَّ قَالَ

[Machine] Regarding him, indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command us to level the graves.

عَنْهُ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَأْمُرُنَا بِتَسْوِيَةِ الْقُبُورِ

«سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَسْتَعِيذُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ»

«سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَعَوَّذُ مِنِ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ»

[Machine] I heard the Prophet of Allah, ﷺ , saying, "He orders its settlement."  

الطبراني:١٥٩٦٢ – حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ مِقْلَاصٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ أَنَّ ثُمَامَةَ بْنَ شُفَيٍّ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ بِأَرْضِ الرُّومِ فَتُوُفِّي صَاحِبٌ لَنَا فَأَمَرَ فَضَالَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ بِقَبْرِهِ فَسُوِّيَ وَقَالَ إِنِّي
