65.25 Surat al-Furqan (The Standard) (contd …)

[Machine] Ibn Abbas said: "scattered dust" that the wind carries away. "Stretching shadows" from the break of dawn to the rising of the sun. "Residing" constantly. "With evidence upon it" the rising of the sun. "Behind" whoever misses out on some of the night, there is a deed he can make up for during the day, or whoever misses out on something during the day, he can make up for it at night.

Al-Hasan said: "Let our wives be a source of obedience to Allah" and nothing is more pleasing to the eye of a believer than to see his beloved in obedience to Allah.

Ibn Abbas said: "Perishing" and woe to it.

Someone else said: Hellfire is masculine, and "tasahir" and "istir" are intense forms of burning.

"It is recited upon him" means it is read to him. From "amlayt" and "amlalt". The plural of a coin made of metal is "risas".

"Does not concern" is said when one does not care about something that is not considered.

"Affection" means destruction.

"Mighty" means they transgressed.

Ibn Uyaynah said: "Rebellious" is what goes against the treasures.

65.25.1 The Statement of Allah the Most High: "Those who will be gathered to Hell (prone) on their faces..." (V.25:34)

٦٥۔٢٥۔١ باب قَوْلِهِ {الَّذِينَ يُحْشَرُونَ عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ إِلَى جَهَنَّمَ أُولَئِكَ شَرٌّ مَكَانًا وَأَضَلُّ سَبِيلاً}

bukhari:4760ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad > Yūnus b. Muḥammad al-Baghdādī > Shaybān > Qatādah > Anas b. Mālik > a man

A man said, "O Allah's Prophet! Will Allah gather the non-believers on their faces on the Day of Resurrection?" He said, "Will not the One Who made him walk on his feet in this world, be able to make him walk on his face on the Day of Resurrection?" (Qatada, a subnarrator, said: Yes, By the Power of Our Lord!)

65.25.2 The Statement of Allah the Exalted: "And those who invoke not any other ilāh (God) along with Allah, nor kill such person..." (V.25:68)

bukhari:4761Musaddad > Yaḥyá > Sufyān > Manṣūr And Sulaymān > Abū Wāʾil > Abū Maysarah > ʿAbdullāh > Wāṣil > Abū Wāʾil > ʿAbdullāh

I or somebody, asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ "Which is the biggest sin in the Sight of Allah?" He said, "That you set up a rival (in worship) to Allah though He Alone created you." I asked, "What is next?" He said, "Then, that you kill your son, being afraid that he may share your meals with you." I asked, "What is next?" He said, "That you commit illegal sexual intercourse with the wife of your neighbor." Then the following Verse was revealed to confirm the statement of Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "Those who invoke not with Allah, any other god, nor kill life as Allah has forbidden except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse." (25.68)

سَأَلْتُ أَوْ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَىُّ الذَّنْبِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ قَالَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِلَّهِ نِدًّا وَهْوَ خَلَقَكَ قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَىٌّ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَنْ تَقْتُلَ وَلَدَكَ خَشْيَةَ أَنْ يَطْعَمَ مَعَكَ قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَىٌّ قَالَ أَنْ تُزَانِيَ بِحَلِيلَةِ جَارِكَ قَالَ وَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ تَصْدِيقًا لِقَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ {وَالَّذِينَ لاَ يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ وَلاَ يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ إِلاَّ بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا يَزْنُونَ}

bukhari:4762Ibrāhīm b. Mūsá > Hishām b. Yūsuf > Ibn Jurayj Akhbarahum > al-Qāsim b. Abū Bazzah

That he asked Saʿid bin Jubair, "Is there any repentance of the one who has murdered a believer intentionally?" Then I recited to him:-- "Nor kill such life as Allah has forbidden except for a just cause." Saʿid said, "I recited this very Verse before Ibn ʿAbbas as you have recited it before me. Ibn ʿAbbas said, 'This Verse was revealed in Mecca and it has been abrogated by a Verse in Surat-An-Nisa which was later revealed in Medina."

bukhari:4763Muḥammad b. Bashhār > Ghundar > Shuʿbah > al-Mughīrah b. al-Nuʿmān > Saʿīd b. Jubayr

The people of Kufa differed as regards the killing of a believer so I entered upon Ibn ʿAbbas (and asked him) about that. Ibn ʿAbbas said, "The Verse (in Surat-An-Nisa', 4:93) was the last thing revealed in this respect and nothing cancelled its validity."

bukhari:4764Ādam > Shuʿbah > Manṣūr > Saʿīd b. Jubayr > Saʾalt Ibn ʿAbbās > Qawlih Taʿālá Fajazāʾuh Jahannam > Lā Tawbah Lah

I asked Ibn ʿAbbas about Allah's saying:-- '.. this reward is Hell Fire.' (4.93) He said, "No repentance is accepted from him (i.e. the murderer of a believer)." I asked him regarding the saying of Allah: 'Those who invoke not with Allah any other god.' ...(25.68) He said, "This Verse was revealed concerning the pagans of the pre-lslamic period."

65.25.3 The Statement of Allah the Exalted: "The torment will be doubled to him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein in disgrace." (V.25:69)

٦٥۔٢٥۔٣ باب قَوْلِهِ {يُضَاعَفْ لَهُ الْعَذَابُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَيَخْلُدْ فِيهِ مُهَانًا}

bukhari:4765Saʿd b. Ḥafṣ > Shaybān > Manṣūr > Saʿīd b. Jubayr > Ibn Abzá Sal Ibn ʿAbbās

Ibn Abza said to me, "Ask Ibn ʿAbbas regarding the Statement of Allah: 'And whoever murders a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell.' (4.69) And also His Statement: '...nor kill such life as Allah has forbidden, except for a just cause .....except those who repent, believe, and do good deeds.' " (25.68-70) So I asked Ibn ʿAbbas and he said, "When this (25.68-69) was revealed, the people of Mecca said, "We have invoked other gods with Allah, and we have murdered such lives which Allah has made sacred, and we have committed illegal sexual intercourse. So Allah revealed: 'Except those who repent, believe, and do good deeds and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.' (25.70)

عَنْ قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى {وَمَنْ يَقْتُلْ مُؤْمِنًا مُتَعَمِّدًا فَجَزَاؤُهُ جَهَنَّمُ} وَقَوْلِهِ {لاَ يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ إِلاَّ بِالْحَقِّ} حَتَّى بَلَغَ {إِلاَّ مَنْ تَابَ} فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ قَالَ أَهْلُ مَكَّةَ فَقَدْ عَدَلْنَا بِاللَّهِ وَقَتَلْنَا النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ إِلاَّ بِالْحَقِّ وَأَتَيْنَا الْفَوَاحِشَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ {إِلاَّ مَنْ تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ عَمَلاً صَالِحًا} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا}

65.25.4 "Except those who repent and believe (in the Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous deeds, for those, Allah will change their sins into good deeds, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (V.25:70)

٦٥۔٢٥۔٤ باب {إِلاَّ مَنْ تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ عَمَلاً صَالِحًا فَأُولَئِكَ يُبَدِّلُ اللَّهُ سَيِّئَاتِهِمْ حَسَنَاتٍ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا}

bukhari:4766ʿAbdān from my father > Shuʿbah > Manṣūr > Saʿīd b. Jubayr > Amaranī ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Abzá > Asʾal Ibn ʿAbbās > Hātayn al-Āyatayn And Man Yaqtul Muʾmin Mutaʿammid Fasaʾaltuh > Lam Yansakhhā Shaʾ > Wa-al--Adhīn Lā Yadʿūn Maʿ Allāh Ilah Ākhar

ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Abza ordered me to ask Ibn ʿAbbas regarding the two Verses (the first of which was ): "And whosoever murders a believer intentionally." (4.93) So I asked him, and he said, "Nothing has abrogated this Verse." About (the other Verse): 'And those who invoke not with Allah any other god.' he said, "It was revealed concerning the pagans."

65.25.5 . "... So the torment will be yours for ever" (V.25:77)

bukhari:4767ʿUmar b. Ḥafṣ b. Ghiyāth from my father > al-Aʿmash > Muslim > Masrūq

Five (great events) have passed: the Smoke, the Moon, the Romans, the Mighty grasp and the constant Punishment which occurs in 'So the torment will be yours forever.' (25.77)

عَبْدُ اللَّهِ خَمْسٌ قَدْ مَضَيْنَ الدُّخَانُ وَالْقَمَرُ وَالرُّومُ وَالْبَطْشَةُ وَاللِّزَامُ {فَسَوْفَ يَكُونُ لِزَامًا}
