7. Medinans (5/15)
“When you see the new crescent then fast, and when you see it then stop fasting. If it is cloudy then fast thirty days.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1655)
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ said, Fajr (dawn prayer time) is not the rectangle in the horizon, but it is the redness that crosses it."
[Machine] "I was sitting with the Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , when a man asked him, 'I touched my private part, do I need to perform ablution before prayer?' the Prophet replied, 'No, it is only from you.'"
[Machine] We visited the Prophet ﷺ, and when he bid us farewell, he commanded me, so I brought him a container of water. He put his hand in it and wiped his face three times, then he put it down and said, "Take it and pour it in your people's mosque, and command them to raise their heads as Allah will raise it." I said, "Indeed, the land between us and you is far, and it is dry." He said, "Then extend it."
[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah ﷻ has made these crescents (moon) as timings for the people. Fast when you see it and break your fast when you see it again. If it is cloudy for you, then complete the count (of days in the month)."
[Machine] "A man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, how should one perform ablution if he touches his private part during prayer?' He replied, 'Is it anything other than a part of you, or is it not just a part of you?'"
Qays ibn Talq said: Talq ibn Ali visited us on a certain day during Ramadan. He remained with us till evening and broke fast with us. He then stood up and led us in the witr prayer. He then went to his mosque and led them in prayer. When the witr remained, he put forward another man and said: Lead your companions in the witr prayer, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: There are no two witrs during one night. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1439)
7.19 [Machine] Ali bin Shiban
[Machine] "He (referring to the narrator) went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'We prayed behind the Prophet ﷺ and noticed a man who did not properly straighten his back during the bowing and prostration. After the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer, he said, 'O Muslims, there is no prayer for the one who does not properly straighten his back during the bowing and prostration.' He also saw a man praying behind the row, so he stood until the man finished, and then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Face your prayer, there is no prayer for the one who prays alone behind the row.' Abdul Samad replied, 'Pray alone behind the row.' So he (the Messenger of Allah) said to him, 'Face your prayer, as there is no prayer for the one who prays alone behind the row.'"
[Machine] A scorpion stung me in the presence of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, and he split it apart and wiped it off.
7.20 al-Aswad b. Sarīʿ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent an entourage on the day of Ḥunayn. He said, "Go and capture the living from the Arabs." He mentioned the narration and said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, there is no newborn but he is born upon the fitrah (natural disposition), until his tongue expresses it."
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have praised Allah with one praise and praised you with another." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Give it to me and start with praising Allah."
[Machine] The Prophet of Allah, ﷺ , said, "On the Day of Judgment, there will be four types of people: a deaf man who cannot hear anything, a foolish man, a senile man, and a man who died during a certain period. As for the deaf man, he will say, 'Oh Lord, Islam has come but I did not hear anything.' As for the foolish man, he will say, 'Oh Lord, Islam has come and the children insulted me with their abuses.' As for the senile man, he will say, 'Oh Lord, Islam has come but I did not understand anything.' And as for the one who died during the period, he will say, 'Oh Lord, no messenger came to me to present their covenants for me to obey.' Then Allah will send a command to them to enter the Hellfire. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, if they enter it, it will become cool and peaceful for them."
[Machine] He said in the end, "Whoever enters it will be met with coolness and peace, and whoever does not enter it will be dragged towards it."
[Machine] "And the first person to narrate in this mosque, meaning the Grand Mosque, said, 'I participated in four battles with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' He said, 'Some people took captives after killing the enemy, and this news reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He said, 'What is wrong with certain people that they kill captives before taking them?' A man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, aren't they the children of the polytheists?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Indeed, the best among you are the children of the polytheists. Each child is born upon true nature (Fitrah), and then his parents make him a Jew or a Christian.' Hasan then concealed it."
7.21 [Machine] Mutarrif bin Abdullah from his father
[Machine] It was narrated from Shu'bah, who narrated from Qatadah, who said: "I was informed by Mutarrif, who heard from his father, who heard from the Prophet ﷺ regarding continuous fasting. He said: 'He does not fast nor does he break his fast.' And Bahz said in his narration: 'He neither fasts nor breaks his fast.'"
"The mutual increase diverts you". He ﷺ said: "The son of Adam says:'My wealth, my wealth, but is there something for you from your wealth besides what you give in charity that remains, or you eat which perishes, or what you wear that grows worn?" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2342)
I came to Allah's Apostle ﷺ as he was reciting:" Abundance diverts you" (cii. 1). He said: The son of Adam claims: My wealth, my wealth. And he (the Holy Prophet) said: O son of Adam. is there anything as your belonging except that which you consumed, which you utilised, or which you wore and then it was worn out or you gave as charity and sent it forward? (Using translation from Muslim 2958a)
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Are you the leader of the Quraysh tribe?" The Prophet ﷺ responded, "The leader of the Quraysh is Allah. I am the best among them in terms of speech and the greatest among them in terms of lineage." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let everyone of you speak with his own words, and let him not be prompted by Satan."
[Machine] He heard the Prophet ﷺ and was asked about a man who fasts continuously, he said, "He neither fasts nor breaks his fast."
"We prayed with Abdullah bin Mas'ud in his house. He stood between us and we placed our hands on our knees, but he took them off and made us interlace our fingers, and said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do that.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1030)
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying, then he spat under his foot and rubbed it with his sandal while it was still on his foot.
[Machine] "He (the Prophet ﷺ) received a delegation from the tribe of Bani 'Amir. So we went to him and greeted him, saying: You are our guardian, our leader, and you are taller than us. Yunus said: And you are taller than us in height, and you are better than us in superiority, and you have beautiful and captivating eyes. So he said: Say what you have said, and may the devil not deceive you."
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and in his chest was a sound like the sound of a boiling pot from crying. Abdullah bin Ahmad said that no one cried more than Yazid bin Harun.
'Abdullah b. Shakhkhir narrated it on the authority of his father that he said prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he spat and then rubbed it off with his left shoe. (Using translation from Muslim 554b)
[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, what is the portion of a lost camel?" He replied, "It is burned in the fire."
"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever fasts every day of is life, then he has neither fasted, nor broken the fast." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2374)
[Machine] "A man came to the Prophet, ﷺ , and said: 'Are you the leader of the Quraysh?' The Prophet, ﷺ , replied: 'The leader is Allah.' The man then asked: 'Are you the best among them in terms of speech and the greatest of them in terms of length?' The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: 'Let each of you speak as he wishes, and do not let Satan or the devils tempt him to boast.'"
[Machine] I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was praying, and there was a sound coming from his chest like the sound of a boiling kettle.
[Machine] A man asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about fasting the entire year, and the Prophet replied, "He neither fasts nor breaks his fast."
[Machine] "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying with his shoes on. He then took them off and kept them under his left foot. Then I saw him rubbing his shoes with his feet."
[Machine] "He (referring to the Prophet) was asked, or the Prophet of Allah was asked, about a man who fasts continuously. He (the Prophet) replied, 'He neither fasts nor breaks his fast.'"
[Machine] The translation of the passage into English is as follows: "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray and spit beneath his left foot."
(Using translation from Muslim 2958a)
[Machine] From his father, and his father had come to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said, "Whoever fasts the entire year, then let him not fast nor break his fast."
[Machine] He said, "I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he was reciting this Surah: 'The mutual rivalry for piling up (wealth) diverts you.' Then he mentioned a similar saying, meaning the saying of Qatadah, 'Like the saying of Hammam.'"
[Machine] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was praying, either sitting or standing, and he was reciting the Surah Al-Haaqqa until he finished it.
"I came to the Prophet ﷺ when he was praying, and there was a sound coming from his chest like the sound of water boiling," meaning, he was weeping. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1214)
[Machine] I entered upon the Messenger of Allah while he was reciting Surah Al-Haqqah until he reached the verse "Until you visit the graves." He then said, "The son of Adam says: My wealth, my wealth. But O son of Adam, do you have anything from your wealth except what you eat and then it is gone, what you wear and then it is worn out, or what you give away in charity and then it is spent? And Qatadah used to say: Every charity that is not collected is of no benefit."
[Machine] Abu entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and heard him say, so he mentioned a statement similar to the narration of Affan and did not mention the saying of Qatadah.
7.22 [Machine] Umar ibn Abi Salamah
[Machine] "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying in a single garment. Waki' narrated that he saw him in the house of Umm Salamah wearing a garment and he had thrown its corners over his shoulder in the house of Umm Salamah."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was brought some food and he said, "O Umar!" Hisham said, "O my son, say Bismillah (In the name of Allah) and eat with your right hand and eat from what is in front of you." He said, "So my food continued after that."
[Machine] "On the authority of Abu Wajzah, a man from the tribe of Sa'd, from a man from Muzaynah, from Umar ibn Abi Salamah, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O my son, when you eat, mention the name of Allah and eat with your right hand, and eat from what is close to you.' He said, 'So my eating has been in this manner ever since.'"
[Machine] For me, it means that the Prophet ﷺ said, "O boy, mention the name of Allah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is in front of you. This has always been my habit, and my hand does not wander."
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying in the house of Umm Salamah, wearing a single garment that covered him completely.
[Machine] To me, the Messenger of Allah, say in the name of Allah and eat with your right hand and eat from what is in front of you.
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying in a single garment that was tucked between his arms, placing his arms on his shoulders.
[Machine] I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying in a single garment, wrapped around him.
[Machine] The passage is a Hadith, a saying of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , that is commonly translated as follows:
"Food was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so he said to his companions, 'Mention the name of Allah and let each person eat from what is in front of them.' Then Ibn Ishaq said, 'If one mentions the name of Allah and another person does not hear it, it shows the truthfulness of the latter.'"
[Machine] The translation of the passage into English is: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'O my son, come closer and mention the name of Allah and eat from what is in front of you.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah invited me to a meal that he was eating, so he said, "Say Bismillah (In the name of Allah), then eat with your right hand, and eat from what is closest to you."
