٧۔ مسند المدنيين
"At the time of the Messenger of Allah we used to be called Samasir (brokers). The Messenger of Allah came to us when we were selling and called us by a name that was better than that. He said: 'O merchants (Tujjar), this selling involves lies and (false) oaths, so mix some charity with it.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3797)
كُنَّا نُسَمَّى السَّمَاسِرَةَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَتَانَا بِالْبَقِيعِ فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ فَسَمَّانَا بِاسْمٍ أَحْسَنَ مِنْ اسْمِنَا إِنَّ الْبَيْعَ يَحْضُرُهُ الْحَلِفُ وَالْكَذِبُ فَشُوبُوهُ بِالصَّدَقَةِ
[Machine] We used to buy goods in the city and we were called brokers. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us, and he named us with a name that is better than what we used to call ourselves. He said: "O merchants, indeed this business involves idle talk and swearing, so purify it with charity."
كُنَّا نَبْتَاعُ الْأَوْسَاقَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَكُنَّا نُسَمَّى السَّمَاسِرَةَ قَالَ فَأَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَمَّانَا بِاسْمٍ هُوَ أَحْسَنُ مِمَّا كُنَّا نُسَمِّي بِهِ أَنْفُسَنَا فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَيْعَ يَحْضُرُهُ اللَّغْوُ وَالْحَلِفُ فَشُوبُوهُ بِالصَّدَقَةِ
"The Prophet came to us when we were in the marketplace and said: 'This marketplace is filled with idle talk and (false) oaths, so mix some charity with it.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3799)
أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذِهِ السُّوقَ يُخَالِطُهَا اللَّغْوُ وَحَلِفٌ فَشُوبُوهَا بِصَدَقَةٍ
[Machine] The messenger of Allah, may peace and blessings be upon him, came out to us while we were selling slaves and we were called the brokers. He said, "O merchants, know that your trade involves falsehood or swearing. Purify it with charity or something from charity."
خَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ نَبِيعُ الرَّقِيقَ نُسَمَّى السَّمَاسِرَةَ فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ إِنَّ بَيْعَكُمْ هَذَا يُخَالِطُهُ لَغْوٌ أَوْ حَلِفٌ فَشُوبُوهُ بِصَدَقَةٍ أَوْ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ صَدَقَةٍ
[Machine] "We used to sell slaves in the market and we were called brokers. Then the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , gave us a better name than what we had given ourselves. He said, 'O merchants, this trade involves vain talk and oaths, so make it pure by giving in charity.'"
كُنَّا نَبِيعُ الرَّقِيقَ فِي السُّوقِ وَكُنَّا نُسَمَّى السَّمَاسِرَةَ فَسَمَّانَا رسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِأَحْسَنَ مِمَّا سَمَّيْنَا بِهِ أَنْفُسَنَا فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَيْعَ يَحْضُرُهُ اللَّغْوُ وَالْأَيْمَانُ فَشُوبُوهُ بِالصَّدَقَةِ
In the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ we used to be called brokers, but the Prophet ﷺ came upon us one day, and called us by a better name than that, saying: O company of merchants, unprofitable speech and swearing takes place in business dealings, so mix it with sadaqah (alms). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3326)
كُنَّا نُسَمَّى عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ السَّمَاسِرَةَ فَمَرَّ بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَمَّانَا بِاسْمٍ هُوَ أَحْسَنُ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَيْعَ يَحْضُرُهُ اللَّغْوُ وَالْحَلِفُ فَشُوبُوهُ بِالصَّدَقَةِ
[Machine] Narrated by one of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , he said, "The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , intended to prohibit a certain type of sale. So we said, 'O Messenger of Allah, it is our livelihood.' He replied, 'Then it is not allowed.' And we used to be called middlemen. And he mentioned the Hadith."
