[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "There are some among my companions who will not see me after they depart from me." Omar came and mentioned this to him, to which the Prophet ﷺ said, "Would it not be sufficient for them to know that I am one of them?" Omar said, "Allah, may He be glorified, is sufficient for us and will not let anyone be lost after you."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّ مِنْ أَصْحَابِي مَنْ لَا يَرَانِي بَعْدَ أَنْ يُفَارِقَنِي قَالَ فَأَتَى عُمَرَ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ قَالَ فَأَتَاهَا عُمَرُ فَقَالَ أُذَكِّرُكِ اللهَ أَمِنْهُمْ أَنَا؟ قَالَتْ اللهُمَّ لَا وَلَنْ أُبْلِيَ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ  

[Machine] He was informed by Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , that she had brought grilled meat close to the Prophet ﷺ , and he ate from it, then he stood up for prayer without performing ablution.  

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهَا قَرَّبَتْ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ جَنْبًا مَشْوِيًّا فَأَكَلَ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ  

[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ said to her, 'If you wish, I will divorce you once, and if I divorce you, I will divorce you three times.'"  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لَهَا إِنْ شِئْتِ سَبَّعْتُ لَكِ وَإِنْ أُسَبِّعْ لَكِ أُسَبِّعْ لِنِسَائِي  

[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ would often have a state of impurity (junub) with his family until dawn, and then he would perform purification and observe fasting." - Ibn Bakr, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ said.  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يُدْرِكُهُ الْفَجْرُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ ثُمَّ يَغْتَسِلُ فَيَصُومُ قَالَ ابْنُ بَكْرٍ زَوْجَتَيِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ  

"He used to pray 'Isha, then he would recite tasbih, then after that he would pray whatever Allah (SWT) willed (he should pray) of night prayer. Then he would go and sleep for as long as he had prayed. Then he would get up from sleep and pray for as long as he had slept, and this last prayer of his would continue until dawn." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1628)   

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ عَنْ صَلَاةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِاللَّيْلِ قَالَتْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الْعِشَاءَ الْآخِرَةَ ثُمَّ يُسَبِّحُ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي بَعْدَهَا مَا شَاءَ اللهُ ﷻ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ يَنْصَرِفُ فَيَرْقُدُ مِثْلَ مَا يُصَلِّي ثُمَّ يَسْتَيْقِظُ مِنْ نَوْمَتِهِ تِلْكَ فَيُصَلِّي مِثْلَ مَا نَامَ وَصَلَاتُهُ تِلْكَ الْآخِرَةُ تَكُونُ إِلَى الصُّبْحِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard a dispute near the door of Umm Salamah. He went out to them and said, "Verily, you are disputing, and indeed I am only a human. It is possible that some of you may present their argument better than others. So, I will judge in favor of him whom I hear the most convincing argument from, and I believe to be truthful. So, whoever I have awarded anything from the right of his brother, then it is a piece from the Hellfire. So, let him take it or leave it."  

سَمِعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَجَبَةَ خَصْمٍ عِنْدَبَابِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ إِنَّكُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ وَإِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ وَلَعَلَّ بَعْضَكُمْ أَنْ يَكُونَ أَعْلَمَ بِحُجَّتِهِ مِنْ بَعْضٍ فَأَقْضِيَ لَهُ بِمَا أَسْمَعُ مِنْهُ فَأَظُنُّهُ صَادِقًا فَمَنْ قَضَيْتُ لَهُ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ حَقِّ أَخِيهِ فَإِنَّهَا قِطْعَةٌ مِنَ النَّارِ فَلْيَأْخُذْهَا أَوْلِيَدَعْهَا  

(the wife of the Prophet) Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard some people quarreling at the door of his dwelling, so he went out to them and said, "I am only a human being, and litigants with cases of dispute come to me, and someone of you may happen to be more eloquent (in presenting his case) than the other, whereby I may consider that he is truthful and pass a judgment in his favor. If ever I pass a judgment in favor of somebody whereby he takes a Muslim's right unjustly, then whatever he takes is nothing but a piece of Fire, and it is up to him to take or leave." (Using translation from Bukhārī 7181)  

أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخْبَرَتْهَا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ خُصُومَةً بِبَابِ حُجْرَتِهِ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا أَنَابَشَرٌ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ  

[Machine] "That a woman was given a sheep as a gift and she sought permission from the Prophet ﷺ to accept it."  

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً أَهْدَتْ لَهَا رِجْلَ شَاةٍ تُصُدِّقَ عَلَيْهَا بِهَا فَأَمَرَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ تَقْبَلَهَا  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "If there is something to be handed over at the desks, then keep away from it."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ الْمُكَاتَبِ مَا يُؤَدِّي فَاحْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever wakes up in the morning in a state of sexual impurity, then he does not fast." I then went with my father and entered upon Umm Salamah and Aisha, and we asked them about that. They informed us that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of sexual impurity without having had a wet dream, then he would fast. We then met Abu Hurairah, and my father narrated the incident to him. Abu Hurairah's face turned red and he said, "Thus Fadl ibn Abbas informed me, and they are more knowledgeable."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ أَدْرَكَهُ الصُّبْحُ جُنُبًا فَلَا صَوْمَ لَهُ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَأَبِي فَدَخَلْنَا عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَعَائِشَةَ فَسَأَلْنَاهُمَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَأَخْبَرَتَانَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ غَيْرِ حُلُمٍ ثُمَّ يَصُومُ فَلَقِينَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ فَحَدَّثَهُ أَبِي فَتَلَوَّنَ وَجْهُ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا حَدَّثَنِي الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَهُنَّ أَعْلَمُ  

[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, a woman sees her husband in her dream and she sees wetness on herself. Is ghusl (ritual bath) obligatory on her?" He replied, "Yes, if she sees wetness, then Umm Salamah asked, 'Does that really happen?' He said, 'May your right hand be fruitful, how else would the likeness of conception reach it? Whichever of the two droplets reaches the womb first, it prevails over the likeness.' Hajjaj said in his narration, 'May your forehead be blessed.'"  

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ الْمَرْأَةُ تَرَى زَوْجَهَا فِي الْمَنَامِ يَقَعُ عَلَيْهَا أَعَلَيْهَا غُسْلٌ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ إِذَا رَأَتْ بَلَلًا فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ أَوَتَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ؟ فَقَالَ تَرِبَتْ يَمِينُكِ أَنَّى يَأْتِي شَبَهُ الْخُؤُولَةِ إِلَّا مِنْ ذَلِكِ؟ أَيُّ النُّطْفَتَيْنِ سَبَقَتْ إِلَى الرَّحِمِ غَلَبَتْ عَلَى الشَّبَهِ وَقَالَ حَجَّاجٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ تَرِبَ جَبِينُكِ  

Umm Salamah reported Umm Habibah said “Are you interested in my sister, Apostle of Allaah ﷺ?” He said “What should I do?” She said “You marry her” He said “Your sister?” She said “Yes”. He said “Do you like that?” she said “I am not alone with you of those who share me in this good, my sister is most to my liking. He said “She is not lawful for me.” She said “By Allaah, I was told that you were going to betroth with you Darrah to Durrah , the narrator Zuhair doubted the daughter of Abu Salamah. He said “The daughter of Umm Salamah? She said “Yes”. He said “(She is my step daughter). Even if she had not been my step daughter under my protection, she would not have been lawful for me. She is my foster niece (daughter of my brother by fosterage). Thuwaibah suckled me as well as his father (Abu Salamah). So do not present to me your daughters and your sisters. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2056)   

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَلْ لَكَ فِي أُخْتِي ابْنَةِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ؟ قَالَ فَأَفْعَلُ مَاذَا؟ قَالَتْ تَنْكِحُهَا قَالَ وَذَاكَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكِ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ لَسْتُ لَكَ بِمُخْلِيَةٍ وَأَحَبُّ مَنْ شَرِكَنِي فِي الْخَيْرِ أُخْتِي قَالَ إِنَّهَا لَا تَحِلُّ لِي قُلْتُ فَإِنَّهُ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّكَ تَخْطُبُ دُرَّةَ ابْنَةَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ ابْنَةُ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَوَاللهِ لَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ رَبِيبَتِي فِي حِجْرِي لَمَا حَلَّتْ لِي إِنَّهَا ابْنَةُ أَخِي مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ أَرْضَعَتْنِي وَأَبَاهَا ثُوَيْبَةُ فَلَا تَعْرِضْنَ عَلَيَّ بَنَاتِكُنَّ وَلَا أَخَوَاتِكُنَّ  

[Machine] Muawiyah sent to Aisha, asking her if the Prophet ﷺ prayed anything after Asr prayer. She said, "As for me, no. But Umm Salamah informed me that he did. So, send to her and ask her." He sent to Umm Salamah, and she said, "Yes, he entered upon me after Asr prayer and prayed two prostrations. I said, 'O Prophet of Allah, was something revealed to you during these two prostrations?' He said, 'No, but I prayed Dhuhr prayer and then I got preoccupied, so I made up for it after Asr prayer."  

أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ أَرْسَلَ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ يَسْأَلُهَا هَلْ صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ شَيْئًا؟ قَالَتْ أَمَّا عِنْدِي فَلَا وَلَكِنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَتْنِي أَنَّهُ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَأَرْسِلْ إِلَيْهَا فَاسْأَلْهَا فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَقَالَتْ نَعَمْ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَصَلَّى سَجْدَتَيْنِ قُلْتُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْكَ فِي هَاتَيْنِ السَّجْدَتَيْنِ؟ قَالَ لَا وَلَكِنْ صَلَّيْتُ الظُّهْرَ فَشُغِلْتُ فَاسْتَدْرَكْتُهَا بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ  

[Machine] I heard Umm Salamah say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade every type of intoxicant and fabricator.  

سَمِعْتُ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ تَقُولُ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ كُلِّ مُسْكِرٍ وَمُفْتِرٍ  

[Machine] On the authority of Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, she said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whenever a servant is afflicted with a calamity and he says, 'Verily, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me for my affliction and replace it for me with something better,' then Allah ﷻ rewards him for his affliction and replaces it for him with something better." Umm Salamah said, "When Abu Salamah passed away, I said, 'Who is better than Abu Salamah, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' Then Allah ﷻ made me firm in saying it, so I said, 'O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it for me with something better.' After that, I married the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."  

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ تُصِيبُهُ مُصِيبَةٌ فَيَقُولُ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ اللهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا إِلَّا أَجَرَهُ اللهُ فِي مُصِيبَتِهِ وَخَلَفَ لَهُ خَيْرًا مِنْهَا قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ قُلْتُ مَنْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ صَاحِبِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ ثُمَّ عَزَمَ اللهُ ﷻ لِي فَقُلْتُهَا اللهُمَّ أْجُرْنِيفِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا قَالَتْ فَتَزَوَّجْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ  

[Machine] I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the footsteps of women. He said, "A cubit." So I said, "Then their feet will be showing, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "An arm's length, and do not exceed it."  

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذُيُولِ النِّسَاءِ؟ فَقَالَ شِبْرًا فَقُلْتُ إِذَنْ تَخْرُجَ أَقْدَامُهُنَّ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ فَذِرَاعٌ لَا تَزِدْنَ عَلَيْهِ  

[Machine] A group of companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon Umm Salamah and said, "O mother of the believers, tell us about the secret of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." She said, "His secret and his public actions were the same. Then I regretted it and said, 'Did I reveal the secret of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?' She said, "When he entered, I informed him and he said, 'You have done well.'"  

دَخَلَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَقَالُوا يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ حَدِّثِينَا عَنْ سِرِّ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ كَانَ سِرُّهُ وَعَلَانِيَتُهُ سَوَاءً ثُمَّ نَدِمْتُ فَقُلْتُ أَفْشَيْتُ سِرَّ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ فَقَالَ أَحْسَنْتِ  

The woman having bleeding after delivery (puerperal haemorrhage) would refrain (from prayer) for forty days or forty nights; and we would anoint our faces with an aromatic herb called wars to remove dark spots. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 311)  

كَانَتْ النُّفَسَاءُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ تَقْعُدُ بَعْدَ نِفَاسِهَا أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا أَوْ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً قَالَتْ وَكُنَّا نَطْلِي عَلَى وُجُوهِنَا الْوَرْسَ مِنَ الْكَلَفِ  

[Machine] "Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , narrated that she asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about using gold to attach to or be attached to musk. He replied, 'Make it silver and apply some saffron to it.'"  

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الذَّهَبِ تُرْبَطُ بِهِ أَوْ يُرْبَطُ بِهِ الْمِسْكُ قَالَ اجْعَلِيهِ فِضَّةً وَصَفِّرِيهِ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ زَعْفَرَانٍ  

Hunaydah al-Khuza'i reported on the authority of her mother who said: I entered upon Umm Salamah and asked her about fasting. She said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command me to fast three days every month beginning with Monday or Thursday. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2452)   

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَأْمُرُنِي أَنْ أَصُومَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ أَوَّلُهَا الِاثْنَيْنِوَالْجُمُعَةُ وَالْخَمِيسُ  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to perform the Sunnah (optional) prayer of Witr with either five or seven units, without speaking or making a final salutation between them.  

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُوتِرُ بِخَمْسٍ أَوْ سَبْعٍ لَا يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَهُنَّ بِكَلَامٍ وَلَا تَسْلِيمٍ  

[Machine] She said, "O Messenger of Allah, my family of Abu Salamah are in my care. They have nothing except what I spend on them, and I am not leaving them any inheritance like this or like that. Will I be rewarded if I spend on them?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Spend on them, for you will be rewarded for what you spend on them."  

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ بَنِي أَبِي سَلَمَةَ فِي حِجْرِي وَلَيْسَ لَهُمْ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا مَا أَنْفَقْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَسْتُ بِتَارِكَتِهِمْ كَذَا وَلَا كَذَا أَفَلِي أَجْرٌ إِنْ أَنْفَقْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْفِقِي عَلَيْهِمْ فَإِنَّ لَكِ أَجْرَ مَا أَنْفَقْتِ عَلَيْهِمْ  

[Machine] When a man comes to his wife desiring intercourse, Umm Salamah asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this, and he said, "Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth however you like." (Qur'an 2:223)  

عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَأْتِي امْرَأَتَهُ مُجَبِّيَةً فَسَأَلَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ} [البقرة 223] صِمَامًا وَاحِدًا  

Umm Salamah said; When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave the salutation, he stayed for a while. By this people thought that women should return earlier than men. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1040)  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا سَلَّمَ مَكَثَ قَلِيلًا وَكَانُوا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ كَيْمَا يَنْفُذُ النِّسَاءُ قَبْلَ الرِّجَالِ  

[Machine] Um Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, said, "I have never seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying after Asr except once. Some people came to him after Dhuhr and they engaged him in something, so he did not pray anything after Dhuhr until he prayed Asr. Then, when he finished praying Asr, he entered my house and prayed two Rak'ahs."  

الرَّحْمَنِعَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ قَطُّ إِلَّا مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً جَاءَهُ نَاسٌ بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ فَشَغَلُوهُ فِي شَيْءٍ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ شَيْئًا حَتَّى صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ دَخَلَ بَيْتِي فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ  

[Machine] The Prophet of Allah ﷺ used to kiss her while fasting, and they would both perform ablution with one vessel.  

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُقَبِّلُهَا وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ وَكَانَا يَغْتَسِلَانِ فِي إِنَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ  

"Messenger of Allah would hasten Zuhr more than you (people), while you (people) hasten Asr more than him." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 161)   

أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَشَدَّ تَعْجِيلًا لِلظُّهْرِ مِنْكُمْوَأَنْتُمْ أَشَدُّ تَعْجِيلًا لِلْعَصْرِ مِنْهُ  

[Machine] Abu Huraira left his small children  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ غَيْرِ احْتِلَامٍ ثُمَّ يَصُومُ يَوْمَهُ قَالَ فَتَرَكَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ فُتْيَاهُ  

[Machine] From 'Amir ibn Abi Umayyah, the brother of Umm Salamah, and Umm Salamah was not mentioned like him.  

عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ أَخِي أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ مِثْلَهُ  

A group of rebels would kill you. (Using translation from Muslim 2916a)  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِعَمَّارٍ تَقْتُلُكَ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to pray these two prayers. Muawiya went to Aisha and I was with them, so we asked her about it, and she said, "I did not hear it from the Prophet ﷺ , but Umm Salamah told me about it, so I asked her." Umm Salamah said that the Prophet ﷺ prayed the Dhuhr prayer, then something was brought to him, and he kept dividing it until the Asr prayer came, so he stood up and prayed the Asr prayer, and then he prayed two extra rak'ahs after it. When he finished them, he said, "I used to pray these two rak'ahs after Dhuhr." Umm Salamah said, "I already informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade them." So I went to Muawiya and informed him of that, and Ibn Zubayr said, "Didn't he pray them continuously?" Muawiya said to him, "You are always opposing, you keep loving disagreement as long as you live."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّيهِمَا فَأَرْسَلَ مُعَاوِيَةُ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ وَأَنَا فِيهِمْ فَسَأَلْنَاهَا فَقَالَتْ لَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَلَكِنْ حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ فَسَأَلْتُهَا فَحَدَّثَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِشَيْءٍ فَجَعَلَ يَقْسِمُهُ حَتَّى حَضَرَتْ صَلَاةُ الْعَصْرِ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بَعْدَهَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَلَمَّا صَلَّاهَا قَالَ هَاتَانِ الرَّكْعَتَانِ كُنْتُ أُصَلِّيهِمَا بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ وَلَقَدْ حَدَّثْتُهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْهُمَا قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَفَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِذَلِكَ فَقَالَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ صَلَّاهُمَا لَا أَزَالُ أُصَلِّيهِمَا فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ إِنَّكَ لَمُخَالِفٌ لَا تَزَالُ تُحِبُّ الْخِلَافَ مَا بَقِيتَ  

One among you used to spend one year in a dungeon dressed in worst clothes. (And at the end of this period) she threw dung at the dog which happened to pass that way and then she came out (of her 'Idda). Can't she (wait) even for four months and ten days? (Using translation from Muslim 1488c)  

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً تُوُفِّيَ زَوْجُهَا فَخَافُوا عَلَى عَيْنِهَا فَأَتَوْا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَاسْتَأْذَنُوهُ فِي الْكُحْلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ كَانَتْ إِحْدَاكُنَّ تَكُونُ فِي بَيْتِهَا فِي أَحْلَاسِهَا أَوْ فِي شَرِّ أَحْلَاسِهَا فِي بَيْتِهَا حَوْلًا فَإِذَا مَرَّ كَلْبٌ رَمَتْ بِبَعْرَةٍ فَخَرَجَتْ فَلَا أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا  

That the Prophet would not fast any month of the year in full except Shaban and he used to join it to Ramadan. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2353)  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَصُومُ مِنَ السَّنَةِ شَهْرًا تَامًّا يُعْلَمُ إِلَّا شَعْبَانَ يَصِلُ بِهِ رَمَضَانَ  

[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "Whoever wishes to offer a sacrifice during the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, let them not cut their hair or trim their nails."  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنْحَرَ فِي هِلَالِ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ فَلَا يَأْخُذْ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ وَأَظْفَارِهِ  

[Machine] I heard Umm Salama mentioning the story.  

سَمِعْتُ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "When the scribes find something to expose, they should conceal it."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِذَا وَجَدَ الْمُكَاتَبُ مَا يُؤَدِّي فَاحْتَجِبْنَ مِنْهُ  

[Machine] "When the Prophet ﷺ was present, he would repeatedly say 'pray, pray' and 'what your right hands possess.' He would speak with these words and his tongue could hardly contain them."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ حِينَ حُضِرَ جَعَلَ يَقُولُ الصَّلَاةَ الصَّلَاةَ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ فَجَعَلَ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِهَا وَمَا يَكَادُ يَفِيضُ بِهَا لِسَانُهُ  

"Abu Hurairah and Ibn 'Abbas differed concerning the widow who gives birth after her husband's death. Abu Hurairah said: 'She may be married.' Ibn 'Abbas said: '(She has to wait) for the longer of the two periods.' They sent word to Umm Salamah and she said: 'The husband of Subai'ah died and she gave birth fifteen days -half a month- after her husband died.' She said: 'Two men proposed marriage to her, and she was inclined toward one of them. When they feared that she was becoming single-minded (on this issue, and not consulting her family), they said: It is not permissible for you to marry. She went to the Messenger of Allah and he said: 'It is permissible for you to marry, so marry whomever you want.''" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3509)   

اخْتَلَفَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ وَابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فِي الْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا إِذَا وَضَعَتْ حَمْلَهَا فَقَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ تُزَوَّجُ وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ أَبْعَدَ الْأَجَلَيْنِ قَالَ فَبَعَثُوا إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَقَالَتْ تُوُفِّيَ زَوْجُ سُبَيْعَةَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ فَوَلَدَتْ بَعْدَ وَفَاتِهِ بِخَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ لَيْلَةً قَالَ فَخَطَبَهَا رَجُلَانِ قَالَ فَحَطَّتْ بِنَفْسِهَا إِلَى أَحَدِهِمَا فَلَمَّا خَشُوا أَنْ تَفْتَاتَ بِنَفْسِهَا إِلَى أَحَدِهِمَا قَالُوا إِنَّكِ لَمْ تَحِلِّي فَانْطَلَقَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ قَدْ حَلَلْتِ فَانْكِحِي مَنْ شِئْتِ  

[Machine] Abdul Rahman entered upon Umm Salamah and she said, "I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, 'Among my companions, there are those who will never see me after my death.'" Abdul Rahman then left her in a state of panic until he went to Umar and said to him, "Listen to what your mother is saying." Umar got up and went to her, entered upon her, and asked her. Then he said, "I adjure you by Allah, am I one of them?" She replied, "No, and I will never approve of anyone after you."  

دَخَلَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَقَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّ مِنْ أَصْحَابِي لَمَنْ لَا يَرَانِي بَعْدَ أَنْ أَمُوتَ أَبَدًا قَالَ فَخَرَجَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ مِنْ عِنْدِهَا مَذْعُورًا حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَى عُمَرَ فَقَالَ لَهُ اسْمَعْ مَا تَقُولُ أُمُّكَ فَقَامَ عُمَرُ حَتَّى أَتَاهَا فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا فَسَأَلَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ أَنْشُدُكِ بِاللهِ أَمِنْهُمْ أَنَا؟ فَقَالَتْ لَا وَلَنْ أُبَرِّئَ بَعْدَكَ أَحَدًا  

By Allah, we do not find this but a sort of concession given by Messenger of Allah ﷺ only for Salim, and no one was ging to be allowed to enter (our houses) with this type of fosterage and we do not subscribe to this view. (Using translation from Muslim 1454)  

أَخْبَرَتْهُأَنَّ أُمَّهَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ كَانَتْ تَقُولُ أَبَى سَائِرُ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنْ يُدْخِلْنَ عَلَيْهِنَّ أَحَدًا بِتِلْكَ الرَّضَاعَةِ وَقُلْنَ لِعَائِشَةَ وَاللهِ مَا نُرَى هَذَا إِلَّا رُخْصَةً أَرْخَصَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِسَالِمٍ خَاصَّةً فَمَا هُوَ بِدَاخِلٍ عَلَيْنَا أَحَدٌ بِهَذِهِ الرَّضَاعَةِ وَلَا رَائِينَا  

[Machine] That Marwan sent to Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet, and she sent her servant to him. She said, "The Messenger of Allah used to wake up in a state of sexual impurity (janaba) and he would fast without breaking his fast." Marwan then returned to him and informed him, so he sent to Aisha and she sent back to him.  

أَنَّ مَرْوَانَ بَعَثَ إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهَا مَوْلَاهَا فَقَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا فَيَصُومُ وَلَا يُفْطِرُ قَالَ فَرَجَعَ إِلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرَهُ فَبَعَثَ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهَا  

[Machine] So I met her servant who was helpful, so I sent him to her and he asked her. He then came back to me and informed me that she said, "The Prophet ﷺ would wake up in a state of sexual impurity without having had a wet dream, and he would then observe fasting." So I went to Marwan and informed him, and he said, "I swear that you should go to Abu Huraira and inform him about it." So I went to him and informed him, and he said, "They know better."  

فَلَقِيتُ غُلَامَهَا نَافِعًا فَأَرْسَلْتُهُ إِلَيْهَا فَسَأَلَهَا قَالَ فَرَجَعَ إِلَيَّ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ إِنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ جِمَاعٍ غَيْرِ احْتِلَامٍ ثُمَّ يُصْبِحُ صَائِمًا قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُ مَرْوَانَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ أَقْسَمْتُ عَلَيْكَ لَتَأْتِيَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ فَلَتُخْبِرَنَّهُ بِهِ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ هُنَّ أَعْلَمُ  

[Machine] He said, "Then he met a young boy named Dhakwan, the son of Abu Amr, and he said, 'I met a helpful boy who is the son of Umm Salamah.'"  

أَنَّهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ لَقِيَ غُلَامَ عَائِشَةَ ذَكْوَانَ أَبَا عَمْرٍو وَقَالَ لَقِيتُ نَافِعًا غُلَامَ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ  

"Aishah and Umm Salamah, the wives of the Prophet informed me that the Prophet would find that it was Fajr while he was Junub from (relations with) his wives, then he would perform Ghusl and fast." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 779)   

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَعَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُدْرِكُهُ الْفَجْرُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ ثُمَّ يَغْتَسِلُ وَيَصُومُ  

[Machine] The translation into English of the passage provided is: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of ritual impurity in Ramadan with his family, then he would cleanse himself and observe fasting."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا فِي رَمَضَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ ثُمَّ يَغْتَسِلُ وَيَصُومُ  

[Machine] He heard Abu Huraira saying, "Whoever wakes up in a state of janaba (sexual impurity) without having had a wet dream should not fast." Abu Bakr and his son, Abdul Rahman, went and entered upon Umm Salamah and Aisha, and both of them said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janaba without having had a wet dream, and then he would fast." Abu Bakr and Abdul Rahman went and approached Marwan and informed him of this. Then Marwan said, "I have made up my mind to ask both of you, when you went to Abu Huraira and told him about it, did he confirm it to you?" They said, "Yes." He said, "That is more reliable, for it was only Al-Fadl bin 'Abbas who informed me of it."  

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَصْبَحَ جُنُبًا مِنْ غَيْرِ احْتِلَامٍ فَلَا يَصُومُ فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَبُوهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ حَتَّى دَخَلَا عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَعَائِشَةَ فَكِلْتَاهُمَا قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ غَيْرِ احْتِلَامٍ ثُمَّ يَصُومُ فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَبُوهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَأَتَيَا مَرْوَانَ فَحَدَّثَاهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ عَزَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمَا لَمَا انْطَلَقْتُمَا إِلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فَحَدَّثْتُمَاهُ فَانْطَلَقَا إِلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فَأَخْبَرَاهُ قَالَ هُم‍َا قَالَتَاهُ لَكُمَا؟ فَقَالَا نَعَمْ قَالَ هُمَا أَعْلَمُ إِنَّمَا أَنَبَأَنِيهِ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ  

[Machine] The translation of the passage into English is: "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity due to sexual intercourse) and then fast throughout his day."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا ثُمَّ يَصُومُ يَوْمَهُ  

[Machine] He heard Abu Hurayrah saying, "Whoever wakes up in a state of janabah (ritual impurity after sexual activity) should not fast." Then Abu Bakr and his father, Abdur Rahman, went until they entered upon Umm Salama and Aisha. Both of them said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janabah without having a wet dream, and then he would fast." Then Abu Bakr and his father, Abdur Rahman, went and met Marwan and informed him. Then (Marwan) said, "I have made a decision when you two went to Abu Hurayrah and informed him." So they went to Abu Hurayrah and informed him. He said, "Did they tell you this?" They replied, "Yes." He said, "They know better, it was only Al-Fadl bin Abbas who informed me."  

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَصْبَحَ جُنُبًا فَلَا يَصُومُ فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَبُوهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ حَتَّى دَخَلَا عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَعَائِشَةَ فَكِلْتَاهُمَا قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ غَيْرِ احْتِلَامٍ ثُمَّ يَصُومُ فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَبُوهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَأَتَيَا مَرْوَانَ فَحَدَّثَاهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ عَزَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمَا لَمَا انْطَلَقْتُمَا إِلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فَحَدَّثْتُمَاهُ فَانْطَلَقَا إِلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فَأَخْبَرَاهُ قَالَ هُمَا قَالَتَاهُ لَكُمَا؟ فَقَالَا نَعَمْ قَالَ هُمَا أَعْلَمُ إِنَّمَا أَنَبَأَنِيهِ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: When any one of you is afflicted with a calamity, let him say: "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. O Allah, I seek reward with You for my calamity, and replace it with something better." When Abu Salamah was in his death throes, he said: "O Allah, compensate me for my loss with something better." When he died, I said: "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. O Allah, I seek reward with You for my calamity, and replace it with something better." She added: "I wanted to say: Replace it for me with something better than him, but I could not say that. When her waiting period was over, Abu Bakr proposed marriage to her, then 'Umar proposed marriage to her, but the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said to her: "Do not be hasty, O 'Umar. I will not withhold her from you, but I have not conferred a blessing upon her yet. Her children will be given to you." She said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have no need for children; rather I want to uphold the ties of kinship." 'Umar said: "I knitted together two garments for her, and stuffed them with a kind of grass, then the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , came and took her, and put her in her cradle in his room, and the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , was a modest and honorable man, and he would shy away from her, but he used to do that repeatedly." Then 'Ammar ibn Yasir, who was her foster brother through her mother, came and entered upon her, and he moved her cradle from his room and said: "Take away this tainted woman who was the cause of the harm caused to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ ." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , came in and put his hand on his forehead, and said: "Where is Zainab? What has Zainab done?" She said: "Ammar came and took her away." He said: "Then he married her to his own cousin and kin."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَصَابَ أَحَدَكُمْ مُصِيبَةٌ فَلْيَقُلْ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ عِنْدَكَ أَحْتَسِبُ مُصِيبَتِي فَأْجُرْنِي فِيهَا وَأَبْدِلْنِيمَا هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْهَا فَلَمَّا احْتُضِرَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ قَالَ اللهُمَّ اخْلُفْنِي فِي أَهْلِي بِخَيْرٍ فَلَمَّا قُبِضَ قُلْتُ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ اللهُمَّ عِنْدَكَ أَحْتَسِبُ مُصِيبَتِي فَأْجُرْنِي فِيهَا قَالَتْ وَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَقُولَ وَأَبْدِلْنِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا فَقُلْتُ وَمَنْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ فَمَا زِلْتُ حَتَّى قُلْتُهَا فَلَمَّا انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُهَا خَطَبَهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَرَدَّتْهُ ثُمَّ خَطَبَهَا عُمَرُ فَرَدَّتْهُ فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ مَرْحَبًا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَبِرَسُولِهِ أَخْبِرْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَنِّي امْرَأَةٌ غَيْرَى وَأَنِّي مُصْبِيَةٌ وَأَنَّهُ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَوْلِيَائِي شَاهِدًا فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَّا قَوْلُكِ إِنِّي مُصْبِيَةٌ فَإِنَّ اللهَ سَيَكْفِيكِ صِبْيَانَكِ وَأَمَّا قَوْلُكِ إِنِّي غَيْرَى فَسَأَدْعُو اللهَ أَنْ يُذْهِبَ غَيْرَتَكِ وَأَمَّا الْأَوْلِيَاءُ فَلَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ شَاهِدٌ وَلَا غَائِبٌ إِلَّا سَيَرْضَانِي قُلْتُ يَا عُمَرُ قُمْ فَزَوِّجْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَا إِنِّي لَا أَنْقُصُكِ شَيْئًا مِمَّا أَعْطَيْتُ أُخْتَكِ فُلَانَةَ رَحَيَيْنِ وَجَرَّتَيْنِ وَوِسَادَةً مِنْ أَدَمٍ حَشْوُهَا لِيفٌ قَالَ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَأْتِيهَا فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَخَذَتْ زَيْنَبَ فَوَضَعَتْهَا فِي حِجْرِهَا لِتُرْضِعَهَا وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَيِيًّا كَرِيمًا يَسْتَحْيِي فَيَرْجِعُ فَفَعَلَ ذَلِكَ مِرَارًا فَفَطِنَ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ لِمَا تَصْنَعُ فَأَقْبَلَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَجَاءَ عَمَّارٌ وَكَانَ أَخَاهَا لِأُمِّهَا فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَافَانْتَشَطَهَا مِنْ حِجْرِهَا وَقَالَ دَعِي هَذِهِ الْمَقْبُوحَةَ الْمَشْقُوحَةَ الَّتِي آذَيْتِ بِهَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ وَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَدَخَلَ فَجَعَلَ يُقَلِّبُ بَصَرَهُ فِي الْبَيْتِ وَيَقُولُ أَيْنَ زَنَابُ؟ مَا فَعَلَتْ زَنَابُ؟ قَالَتْ جَاءَ عَمَّارٌ فَذَهَبَ بِهَا قَالَ فَبَنَى بِأَهْلِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنْ شِئْتِ أَنْ أُسَبِّعَ لَكِ سَبَّعْتُ لِلنِّسَاءِ  

[Machine] And Sulaiman bin Al-Mughira bin 'Umar bin Abi Salamah said, "A messenger came."
