Malik bin Sasaa said that Messenger of Allah ﷺ described to them his Night Journey saying, "While I was lying in Al-Hatim or Al-Hijr, suddenly someone came to me and cut my body open from here to here." I asked Al-Jarud who was by my side, "What does he mean?" He said, "It means from his throat to his pubic area," or said, "From the top of the chest." The Prophet ﷺ further said, "He then took out my heart. Then a gold tray of Belief was brought to me and my heart was washed and was filled (with Belief) and then returned to its original place. Then a white animal which was smaller than a mule and bigger than a donkey was brought to me." (On this Al-Jarud asked, "Was it the Buraq, O Abu Hamza?" I (i.e. Anas) replied in the affirmative). The Prophet ﷺ said, "The animal's step (was so wide that it) reached the farthest point within the reach of the animal's sight. I was carried on it, and Gabriel set out with me till we reached the nearest heaven. When he asked for the gate to be opened, it was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel answered, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has Muhammad been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What an excellent visit his is!' The gate was opened, and when I went over the first heaven, I saw Adam there. Gabriel said (to me). 'This is your father, Adam; pay him your greetings.' So I greeted him and he returned the greeting to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious son and pious Prophet.' Then Gabriel ascended with me till we reached the second heaven. Gabriel asked for the gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel answered, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel answered in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What an excellent visit his is!' The gate was opened. When I went over the second heaven, there I saw Yahya (i.e. John) and ʿIsa (i.e. Jesus) who were cousins of each other. Gabriel said (to me), 'These are John and Jesus; pay them your greetings.' So I greeted them and both of them returned my greetings to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.' Then Gabriel ascended with me to the third heaven and asked for its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed, what an excellent visit his is!' The gate was opened, and when I went over the third heaven there I saw Joseph. Gabriel said (to me), 'This is Joseph; pay him your greetings.' So I greeted him and he returned the greeting to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.' Then Gabriel ascended with me to the fourth heaven and asked for its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed, what an excel lent visit his is!' The gate was opened, and when I went over the fourth heaven, there I saw Idris. Gabriel said (to me), 'This is Idris; pay him your greetings.' So I greeted him and he returned the greeting to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.' Then Gabriel ascended with me to the fifth heaven and asked for its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked. 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said He is welcomed, what an excellent visit his is! So when I went over the fifth heaven, there I saw Harun (i.e. Aaron), Gabriel said, (to me). This is Aaron; pay him your greetings.' I greeted him and he returned the greeting to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.' Then Gabriel ascended with me to the sixth heaven and asked for its gate to be opened. It was asked. 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. It was said, 'He is welcomed. What an excellent visit his is!' When I went (over the sixth heaven), there I saw Moses. Gabriel said (to me),' This is Moses; pay him your greeting. So I greeted him and he returned the greetings to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.' When I left him (i.e. Moses) he wept. Someone asked him, 'What makes you weep?' Moses said, 'I weep because after me there has been sent (as Prophet) a young man whose followers will enter Paradise in greater numbers than my followers.' Then Gabriel ascended with me to the seventh heaven and asked for its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked,' Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What an excellent visit his is!' So when I went (over the seventh heaven), there I saw Abraham. Gabriel said (to me), 'This is your father; pay your greetings to him.' So I greeted him and he returned the greetings to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious son and pious Prophet.' Then I was made to ascend to Sidrat-ul-Muntaha (i.e. the Lote Tree of the utmost boundary) Behold! Its fruits were like the jars of Hajr (i.e. a place near Medina) and its leaves were as big as the ears of elephants. Gabriel said, 'This is the Lote Tree of the utmost boundary) . Behold ! There ran four rivers, two were hidden and two were visible, I asked, 'What are these two kinds of rivers, O Gabriel?' He replied,' As for the hidden rivers, they are two rivers in Paradise and the visible rivers are the Nile and the Euphrates.' Then Al-Bait-ul-Ma'mur (i.e. the Sacred House) was shown to me and a container full of wine and another full of milk and a third full of honey were brought to me. I took the milk. Gabriel remarked, 'This is the Islamic religion which you and your followers are following.' Then the prayers were enjoined on me: They were fifty prayers a day. When I returned, I passed by Moses who asked (me), 'What have you been ordered to do?' I replied, 'I have been ordered to offer fifty prayers a day.' Moses said, 'Your followers cannot bear fifty prayers a day, and by Allah, I have tested people before you, and I have tried my level best with Bani Israel (in vain). Go back to your Lord and ask for reduction to lessen your followers' burden.' So I went back, and Allah reduced ten prayers for me. Then again I came to Moses, but he repeated the same as he had said before. Then again I went back to Allah and He reduced ten more prayers. When I came back to Moses he said the same, I went back to Allah and He ordered me to observe ten prayers a day. When I came back to Moses, he repeated the same advice, so I went back to Allah and was ordered to observe five prayers a day. When I came back to Moses, he said, 'What have you been ordered?' I replied, 'I have been ordered to observe five prayers a day.' He said, 'Your followers cannot bear five prayers a day, and no doubt, I have got an experience of the people before you, and I have tried my level best with Bani Israel, so go back to your Lord and ask for reduction to lessen your follower's burden.' I said, 'I have requested so much of my Lord that I feel ashamed, but I am satisfied now and surrender to Allah's Order.' When I left, I heard a voice saying, 'I have passed My Order and have lessened the burden of My Worshipers."

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ بَيْنَمَا أَنَا فِي الْحَطِيمِ وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ فِي الْحِجْرِ مُضْطَجِعًا إِذْ أَتَانِي آتٍ فَقَدَّ قَالَ وَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ فَشَقَّ مَا بَيْنَ هَذِهِ إِلَى هَذِهِ فَقُلْتُ لِلْجَارُودِ وَهْوَ إِلَى جَنْبِي مَا يَعْنِي بِهِ قَالَ مِنْ ثُغْرَةِ نَحْرِهِ إِلَى شِعْرَتِهِ وَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ مِنْ قَصِّهِ إِلَى شِعْرَتِهِ فَاسْتَخْرَجَ قَلْبِي ثُمَّ أُتِيتُ بِطَسْتٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ مَمْلُوءَةٍ إِيمَانًا فَغُسِلَ قَلْبِي ثُمَّ حُشِيَ ثُمَّ أُوتِيتُ بِدَابَّةٍ دُونَ الْبَغْلِ وَفَوْقَ الْحِمَارِ أَبْيَضَ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْجَارُودُ هُوَ الْبُرَاقُ يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ قَالَ أَنَسٌ نَعَمْ يَضَعُ خَطْوَهُ عِنْدَ أَقْصَى طَرْفِهِ فَحُمِلْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَانْطَلَقَ بِي جِبْرِيلُ حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا فَاسْتَفْتَحَ فَقِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ فَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَفَتَحَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا فِيهَا آدَمُ فَقَالَ هَذَا أَبُوكَ آدَمُ فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ السَّلاَمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالاِبْنِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ ثُمَّ صَعِدَ حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ الثَّانِيَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ فَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَفَتَحَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ إِذَا يَحْيَى وَعِيسَى وَهُمَا ابْنَا الْخَالَةِ قَالَ هَذَا يَحْيَى وَعِيسَى فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِمَا فَسَلَّمْتُ فَرَدَّا ثُمَّ قَالاَ مَرْحَبًا بِالأَخِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ ثُمَّ صَعِدَ بِي إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الثَّالِثَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ فَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَفُتِحَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ إِذَا يُوسُفُ قَالَ هَذَا يُوسُفُ فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالأَخِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ ثُمَّ صَعِدَ بِي حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ الرَّابِعَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ أَوَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ فَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَفُتِحَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ إِلَى إِدْرِيسَ قَالَ هَذَا إِدْرِيسُ فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالأَخِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ ثُمَّ صَعِدَ بِي حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ الْخَامِسَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ فَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا هَارُونُ قَالَ هَذَا هَارُونُ فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالأَخِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ ثُمَّ صَعِدَ بِي حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ السَّادِسَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ مَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ فَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا مُوسَى قَالَ هَذَا مُوسَى فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالأَخِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ فَلَمَّا تَجَاوَزْتُ بَكَى قِيلَ لَهُ مَا يُبْكِيكَ قَالَ أَبْكِي لأَنَّ غُلاَمًا بُعِثَ بَعْدِي يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ أَكْثَرُ مَنْ يَدْخُلُهَا مِنْ أُمَّتِي ثُمَّ صَعِدَ بِي إِلَى السَّمَاءِ السَّابِعَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ فَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ قَالَ هَذَا أَبُوكَ فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ السَّلاَمَ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالاِبْنِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ ثُمَّ رُفِعَتْ لِي سِدْرَةُ الْمُنْتَهَى فَإِذَا نَبِقُهَا مِثْلُ قِلاَلِ هَجَرَ وَإِذَا وَرَقُهَا مِثْلُ آذَانِ الْفِيَلَةِ قَالَ هَذِهِ سِدْرَةُ الْمُنْتَهَى وَإِذَا أَرْبَعَةُ أَنْهَارٍ نَهْرَانِ بَاطِنَانِ وَنَهْرَانِ ظَاهِرَانِ فَقُلْتُ مَا هَذَانِ يَا جِبْرِيلُ قَالَ أَمَّا الْبَاطِنَانِ فَنَهَرَانِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَأَمَّا الظَّاهِرَانِ فَالنِّيلُ وَالْفُرَاتُ ثُمَّ رُفِعَ لِي الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ ثُمَّ أُتِيتُ بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ خَمْرٍ وَإِنَاءٍ مِنْ لَبَنٍ وَإِنَاءٍ مِنْ عَسَلٍ فَأَخَذْتُ اللَّبَنَ فَقَالَ هِيَ الْفِطْرَةُ أَنْتَ عَلَيْهَا وَأُمَّتُكَ ثُمَّ فُرِضَتْ عَلَىَّ الصَّلَوَاتُ خَمْسِينَ صَلاَةً كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فَرَجَعْتُ فَمَرَرْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ بِمَا أُمِرْتَ قَالَ أُمِرْتُ بِخَمْسِينَ صَلاَةً كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لاَ تَسْتَطِيعُ خَمْسِينَ صَلاَةً كُلَّ يَوْمٍ وَإِنِّي وَاللَّهِ قَدْ جَرَّبْتُ النَّاسَ قَبْلَكَ وَعَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ لأُمَّتِكَ فَرَجَعْتُ فَوَضَعَ عَنِّي عَشْرًا فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مِثْلَهُ فَرَجَعْتُ فَوَضَعَ عَنِّي عَشْرًا فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مِثْلَهُ فَرَجَعْتُ فَوَضَعَ عَنِّي عَشْرًا فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مِثْلَهُ فَرَجَعْتُ فَأُمِرْتُ بِعَشْرِ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فَرَجَعْتُ فَقَالَ مِثْلَهُ فَرَجَعْتُ فَأُمِرْتُ بِخَمْسِ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ بِمَا أُمِرْتَ قُلْتُ أُمِرْتُ بِخَمْسِ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لاَ تَسْتَطِيعُ خَمْسَ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ وَإِنِّي قَدْ جَرَّبْتُ النَّاسَ قَبْلَكَ وَعَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ لأُمَّتِكَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي حَتَّى اسْتَحْيَيْتُ وَلَكِنْ أَرْضَى وَأُسَلِّمُ قَالَ فَلَمَّا جَاوَزْتُ نَادَى مُنَادٍ أَمْضَيْتُ فَرِيضَتِي وَخَفَّفْتُ عَنْ عِبَادِي

I was brought al-Buraq Who is an animal white and long, larger than a donkey but smaller than a mule, who would place his hoof a distance equal to the range of version. I mounted it and came to the Temple (Bait Maqdis in Jerusalem), then tethered it to the ring used by the prophets. I entered the mosque and prayed two rak'ahs in it, and then came out and Gabriel brought me a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk. I chose the milk, and Gabriel said: You have chosen the natural thing. Then he took me to heaven. Gabriel then asked the (gate of heaven) to be opened and he was asked who he was. He replied: Gabriel. He was again asked: Who is with you? He (Gabriel) said: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent for? Gabriel replied: He has indeed been sent for. And (the door of the heaven) was opened for us and lo! we saw Adam. He welcomed me and prayed for my good. Then we ascended to the second heaven. Gabriel (peace be upon him) (asked the door of heaven to be opened), and he was asked who he was. He answered: Gabriel; and was again asked: Who is with you? He replied: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. The gate was opened. When I entered 'Isa b. Maryam and Yahya b. Zakariya (peace be upon both of them), cousins from the maternal side. welcomed me and prayed for my good Then I was taken to the third heaven and Gabriel asked for the opening (of the door). He was asked: Who are you? He replied: Gabriel. He was (again) asked: Who is with you? He replied Muhammad ﷺ. It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied He has indeed been sent for. (The gate) was opened for us and I saw Yusuf (peace of Allah be upon him) who had been given half of (world) beauty. He welcomed me prayed for my well-being. Then he ascended with us to the fourth heaven. Gabriel (peace be upon him) asked for the (gate) to be opened, and it was said: Who is he? He replied: Gabriel. It was (again) said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. The (gate) was opened for us, and lo! Idris was there. He welcomed me and prayed for my well-being (About him) Allah, the Exalted and the Glorious, has said:" We elevated him (Idris) to the exalted position" (Qur'an xix. 57). Then he ascended with us to the fifth heaven and Gabriel asked for the (gate) to be opened. It was said: Who is he? He replied Gabriel. It was (again) said: Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad. It was said Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. (The gate) was opened for us and then I was with Harun (Aaron-peace of Allah be upon him). He welcomed me prayed for my well-being. Then I was taken to the sixth heaven. Gabriel (peace be upon him) asked for the door to be opened. It was said: Who is he? He replied: Gabriel. It was said: Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. (The gate) was opened for us and there I was with Musa (Moses peace be upon him) He welcomed me and prayed for my well-being. Then I was taken up to the seventh heaven. Gabriel asked the (gate) to be opened. It was said: Who is he? He said: Gabriel It was said. Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad (may peace be upon him.) It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. (The gate) was opened for us and there I found Ibrahim (Abraham peace be upon him) reclining against the Bait-ul-Ma'mur and there enter into it seventy thousand angels every day, never to visit (this place) again. Then I was taken to Sidrat-ul-Muntaha whose leaves were like elephant ears and its fruit like big earthenware vessels. And when it was covered by the Command of Allah, it underwent such a change that none amongst the creation has the power to praise its beauty. Then Allah revealed to me a revelation and He made obligatory for me fifty prayers every day and night. Then I went down to Moses (peace be upon him) and he said: What has your Lord enjoined upon your Ummah? I said: Fifty prayers. He said: Return to thy Lord and beg for reduction (in the number of prayers), for your community shallnot be able to bear this burden. as I have put to test the children of Isra'il and tried them (and found them too weak to bear such a heavy burden). He (the Holy Prophet) said: I went back to my Lord and said: My Lord, make things lighter for my Ummah. (The Lord) reduced five prayers for me. I went down to Moses and said. (The Lord) reduced five (prayers) for me, He said: Verily thy Ummah shall not be able to bear this burden; return to thy Lord and ask Him to make things lighter. I then kept going back and forth between my Lord Blessed and Exalted and Moses, till He said: There are five prayers every day and night. O Muhammad, each being credited as ten, so that makes fifty prayers. He who intends to do a good deed and does not do it will have a good deed recorded for him; and if he does it, it will be recorded for him as ten; whereas he who intends to do an evil deed and does not do, it will not be recorded for him; and if he does it, only one evil deed will be recorded. I then came down and when I came to Moses and informed him, he said: Go back to thy Lord and ask Him to make things lighter. Upon this the Messenger of Allah remarked: I returned to my Lord until I felt ashamed before Him.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ أُتِيتُ بِالْبُرَاقِ وَهُوَ دَابَّةٌ أَبْيَضُ طَوِيلٌ فَوْقَ الْحِمَارِ وَدُونَ الْبَغْلِ يَضَعُ حَافِرَهُ عِنْدَ مُنْتَهَى طَرْفِهِ قَالَ فَرَكِبْتُهُ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ قَالَ فَرَبَطْتُهُ بِالْحَلْقَةِ الَّتِي يَرْبِطُ بِهِ الأَنْبِيَاءُ قَالَ ثُمَّ دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَصَلَّيْتُ فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ فَجَاءَنِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ خَمْرٍ وَإِنَاءٍ مِنْ لَبَنٍ فَاخْتَرْتُ اللَّبَنَ فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ ﷺ اخْتَرْتَ الْفِطْرَةَ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِآدَمَ فَرَحَّبَ بِي وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الثَّانِيَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِابْنَىِ الْخَالَةِ عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ وَيَحْيَى بْنِ زَكَرِيَّاءَ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِمَا فَرَحَّبَا وَدَعَوَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِي إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الثَّالِثَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِيُوسُفَ ﷺ إِذَا هُوَ قَدْ أُعْطِيَ شَطْرَ الْحُسْنِ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الرَّابِعَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قَالَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِإِدْرِيسَ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ قَالَ اللَّهُ ﷻ { وَرَفَعْنَاهُ مَكَانًا عَلِيًّا} ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الْخَامِسَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِهَارُونَ ﷺ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ السَّادِسَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِمُوسَى ﷺ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ السَّابِعَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِإِبْرَاهِيمَ ﷺ مُسْنِدًا ظَهْرَهُ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ وَإِذَا هُوَ يَدْخُلُهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ لاَ يَعُودُونَ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ بِي إِلَى السِّدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَى وَإِذَا وَرَقُهَا كَآذَانِ الْفِيَلَةِ وَإِذَا ثَمَرُهَا كَالْقِلاَلِ قَالَ فَلَمَّا غَشِيَهَا مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ مَا غَشِيَ تَغَيَّرَتْ فَمَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ خَلْقِ اللَّهِ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَنْعَتَهَا مِنْ حُسْنِهَا فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَىَّ مَا أَوْحَى فَفَرَضَ عَلَىَّ خَمْسِينَ صَلاَةً فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ فَنَزَلْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا فَرَضَ رَبُّكَ عَلَى أُمَّتِكَ قُلْتُ خَمْسِينَ صَلاَةً قَالَ ارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ فَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لاَ يُطِيقُونَ ذَلِكَ فَإِنِّي قَدْ بَلَوْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَخَبَرْتُهُمْ قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَقُلْتُ يَا رَبِّ خَفِّفْ عَلَى أُمَّتِي فَحَطَّ عَنِّي خَمْسًا فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقُلْتُ حَطَّ عَنِّي خَمْسًا قَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لاَ يُطِيقُونَ ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ قَالَ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَرْجِعُ بَيْنَ رَبِّي تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى وَبَيْنَ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ حَتَّى قَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّهُنَّ خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ لِكُلِّ صَلاَةٍ عَشْرٌ فَذَلِكَ خَمْسُونَ صَلاَةً وَمَنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ حَسَنَةً فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ عَشْرًا وَمَنْ هَمَّ بِسَيِّئَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا لَمْ تُكْتَبْ شَيْئًا فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ سَيِّئَةً وَاحِدَةً قَالَ فَنَزَلْتُ حَتَّى انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ ارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ قَدْ رَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي حَتَّى اسْتَحْيَيْتُ مِنْهُ

I was near the House (i. e. Ka'bah) in a state between sleep and wakefulness when I heard someone say: He is the third among the two persons. Then he came to me and took me with him. Then a golden basin containing the water of Zamzam was brought to me and my heart was opened up to such and such (part). Qatada said: I asked him who was with me (i e. the narrator) and what he meant by such and such (part). He replied: (It means that it was opened) up to the lower part of his abdomen (Then the hadith continues): My heart was extracted and it was washed with the water of Zamzam and then it was restored in its original position, after which it was filled with faith and wisdom. I was then brought a white beast which is called al-Buraq, bigger than a donkey and smaller than a mule. Its stride was as long as the eye could reach. I was mounted on it, and then we went forth till we reached the lowest heaven. Gabriel asked for the (gate) to be opened, and it was said: Who is he? He replied: Gabriel. It was again said: Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad ﷺ. It was said: Has he been sent for? He (Gabriel) said: Yes. He (the Prophet) said: Then (the gate) was opened for us (and it was said): Welcome unto him! His is a blessed arrival. Then we came to Adam (peace be upon him). And he (the narrator) narrated the whole account of the hadith. (The Holy Prophet) observed that he met Jesus in the second heaven, Yahya (peace be on both of them) in the third heaven, Yusuf in the third, Idris in the fourth, Harun in the fifth (peace and blessings of Allah be upon them). Then we travelled on till we reached the sixth heaven and came to Moses (peace be upon him) and I greeted him and he said: Welcome unto righteous brother and righteous prophet. And when I passed (by him) he wept, and a voice was heard saying: What makes thee weep? He said: My Lord, he is a young man whom Thou hast sent after me (as a prophet) and his followers will enter Paradise in greater numbers than my followers. Then we travelled on till we reached the seventh heaven and I came to Ibrahim. He (the narrator) narrat- ed in this hadith that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ told that he saw four rivers which flowed from (the root of the lote-tree of the farthest limits): two manifest rivers and two hidden rivers. I said: ' Gabriel! what are these rivers? He replied: The two hidden rivers are the rivers of Paradise, and as regards the two manifest ones, they are the Nile and the Euphrates. Then the Bait-ul-Ma'mur was raised up to me. I said: O Gabriel! what is this? He replied: It is the Bait-ul-Ma'mur. Seventy thousand angels enter into it daily and, after they come out, they never return again. Two vessels were then brought to me. The first one contained wine and the second one contained milk, and both of them were placed before me. I chose milk. It was said: You did right. Allah will guide rightly through you your Ummah on the natural course. Then fifty prayers daily were made obligatory for me. And then he narrated the rest of the hadith to the end.

نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْنَا أَنَا عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ بَيْنَ النَّائِمِ وَالْيَقْظَانِ إِذْ سَمِعْتُ قَائِلاً يَقُولُ أَحَدُ الثَّلاَثَةِ بَيْنَ الرَّجُلَيْنِ فَأُتِيتُ فَانْطُلِقَ بِي فَأُتِيتُ بِطَسْتٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فِيهَا مِنْ مَاءِ زَمْزَمَ فَشُرِحَ صَدْرِي إِلَى كَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَ قَتَادَةُ فَقُلْتُ لِلَّذِي مَعِي مَا يَعْنِي قَالَ إِلَى أَسْفَلِ بَطْنِهِ فَاسْتُخْرِجَ قَلْبِي فَغُسِلَ بِمَاءِ زَمْزَمَ ثُمَّ أُعِيدَ مَكَانَهُ ثُمَّ حُشِيَ إِيمَانًا وَحِكْمَةً ثُمَّ أُتِيتُ بِدَابَّةٍ أَبْيَضَ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْبُرَاقُ فَوْقَ الْحِمَارِ وَدُونَ الْبَغْلِ يَقَعُ خَطْوُهُ عِنْدَ أَقْصَى طَرْفِهِ فَحُمِلْتُ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقْنَا حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ ﷺ فَقِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَفَتَحَ لَنَا وَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ قَالَ فَأَتَيْنَا عَلَى آدَمَ ﷺ وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ بِقِصَّتِهِ وَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ لَقِيَ فِي السَّمَاءِ الثَّانِيَةِ عِيسَى وَيَحْيَى عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلاَمُ وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ يُوسُفَ وَفِي الرَّابِعَةِ إِدْرِيسَ وَفِي الْخَامِسَةِ هَارُونَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقْنَا حَتَّى انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ السَّادِسَةِ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالأَخِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ فَلَمَّا جَاوَزْتُهُ بَكَى فَنُودِيَ مَا يُبْكِيكَ قَالَ رَبِّ هَذَا غُلاَمٌ بَعَثْتَهُ بَعْدِي يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ الْجَنَّةَ أَكْثَرُ مِمَّا يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِي قَالَ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقْنَا حَتَّى انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ السَّابِعَةِ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَقَالَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ وَحَدَّثَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ رَأَى أَرْبَعَةَ أَنْهَارٍ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ أَصْلِهَا نَهْرَانِ ظَاهِرَانِ وَنَهْرَانِ بَاطِنَانِ فَقُلْتُ يَا جِبْرِيلُ مَا هَذِهِ الأَنْهَارُ قَالَ أَمَّا النَّهْرَانِ الْبَاطِنَانِ فَنَهْرَانِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَأَمَّا الظَّاهِرَانِ فَالنِّيلُ وَالْفُرَاتُ ثُمَّ رُفِعَ لِيَ الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ فَقُلْتُ يَا جِبْرِيلُ مَا هَذَا قَالَ هَذَا الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ يَدْخُلُهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ إِذَا خَرَجُوا مِنْهُ لَمْ يَعُودُوا فِيهِ آخِرُ مَا عَلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ أُتِيتُ بِإِنَاءَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَا خَمْرٌ وَالآخَرُ لَبَنٌ فَعُرِضَا عَلَىَّ فَاخْتَرْتُ اللَّبَنَ فَقِيلَ أَصَبْتَ أَصَابَ اللَّهُ بِكَ أُمَّتُكَ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ ثُمَّ فُرِضَتْ عَلَىَّ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ خَمْسُونَ صَلاَةً ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ قِصَّتَهَا إِلَى آخِرِ الْحَدِيثِ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The roof of my house was opened while I was in Makkah, and Jibril ﷺ descended and opened my chest, then washed it with the water of Zamzam. Then he brought a basin of gold filled with wisdom and faith, poured it into my chest, then closed it. Then he took me by the hand and ascended with me to heaven.

When we came to the lowest heaven, Jibril ﷺ said to the keeper of the lowest heaven, 'Open.' He said, 'Who is this?' He said, 'This is Jibril.' He said, 'Is anyone with you?' He said, 'Yes, Muhammad ﷺ is with me.' He said, 'Was he sent for?' He said, 'Yes,' and he opened. He said: When we rose to the lowest heaven, there was a man with dark multitudes on his right and dark multitudes on his left. He said: When he looked toward his right, he laughed, and when he looked toward his left, he wept. He said: He said, 'Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous son.' He said: I said, 'O Jibril, who is this?' He said, 'This is Adam ᴬˢ, and these dark multitudes on his right and on his left are the souls of his children. The people on the right are the people of Paradise, and the dark multitudes on his left are the people of the Fire. When he looks toward his right, he laughs, and when he looks toward his left, he weeps.'

He said: Then Jibril ascended with me until he came to the second heaven, and he said to its keeper, 'Open.' He said: Its keeper said to him the like of what the keeper of the lowest heaven had said, and he opened."

Anas ibn Malik said: He mentioned that he found in the heavens Adam, Idris, Jesus, Musa, and Ibrahim—may Allah's blessings be upon them all—but he did not specify the exact nature of their stations, except that he mentioned that he found Adam ᴬˢ in the lowest heaven and Ibrahim in the sixth heaven. He said: "When Jibril and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by Idris ᴬˢ he said, 'Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous brother.' He said: Then he passed on, and I said, 'Who is this?' He said, 'This is Idris.' He said: Then I passed by Musa ᴬˢ, upon him be peace, and he said, 'Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous brother.' He said: I said, 'Who is this?' He said, 'This is Musa.' He said: Then I passed by Jesus ᴬˢ, and he said, 'Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous brother.' I said, 'Who is this?' He said, 'Jesus, the son of Mary.' He said: Then I passed by Ibrahim ᴬˢ, and he said, 'Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous son.' He said: I said, 'Who is this?' He said, 'This is Ibrahim.'"

Ibn Shihab said: Ibn Hazm informed me that Ibn Abbas and Abu Habbah al-Ansari used to say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Then I was taken up until I reached a level where I could hear the scratching of the pens."

Ibn Hazm and Anas ibn Malik said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Then Allah prescribed fifty prayers for my community. He said: I returned with that until I passed by Musa, and Musa ᴬˢ said, 'What has your Lord prescribed for your community?' He said: I said, 'He has prescribed fifty prayers for them.' Musa ᴬˢ said to me, 'Go back to your Lord, for your community will not be able to bear that.' He said: So I went back to my Lord, and He reduced half of them. He said: Then I returned to Musa ᴬˢ and informed him. He said, 'Go back to your Lord, for your community will not be able to bear that.' He said: So I went back to my Lord, and He said, 'They are five, and they are fifty; the word is not changed with Me.' He said: I returned to Musa, and he said, 'Go back to your Lord.' I said, 'I have become shy before my Lord.' He said: Then Jibril took me along until we came to Sidrat al-Muntaha (the Lote Tree at the absolute end), and colors covered it, I do not know what they were. He said: Then I was admitted into Paradise, and there were domes of pearls in it, and its soil was musk."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: «فُرِجَ سَقْفُ بَيْتِي وَأَنَا بِمَكَّةَ، فَنَزَلَ جِبْرِيلُ ﷺ فَفَرَجَ صَدْرِي، ثُمَّ غَسَلَهُ مِنْ مَاءِ زَمْزَمَ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ بِطَسْتٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ مُمْتَلِئٍ حِكْمَةً وَإِيمَانًا، فَأَفْرَغَهَا فِي صَدْرِي، ثُمَّ أَطْبَقَهُ، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدِي فَعَرَجَ بِي إِلَى السَّمَاءِ.

فَلَمَّا جِئْنَا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ لِخَازِنِ السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا: افْتَحْ، قَالَ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: هَذَا جِبْرِيلُ، قَالَ: هَلْ مَعَكَ أَحَدٌ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، مَعِيَ مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ، قَالَ: فَأُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَفَتَحَ. قَالَ: فَلَمَّا عَلَوْنَا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ أَسْوِدَةٌ وَعَنْ يَسَارِهِ أَسْوِدَةٌ، قَالَ: فَإِذَا نَظَرَ قِبَلَ يَمِينِهِ ضَحِكَ، وَإِذَا نَظَرَ قِبَلَ شِمَالِهِ بَكَى. قَالَ: فَقَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ وَالاِبْنِ الصَّالِحِ. قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا جِبْرِيلُ، مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: هَذَا آدَمُ ﷺ، وَهَذِهِ الأَسْوِدَةُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ نَسَمُ بَنِيهِ، فَأَهْلُ الْيَمِينِ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ، وَالأَسْوِدَةُ الَّتِي عَنْ شِمَالِهِ أَهْلُ النَّارِ، فَإِذَا نَظَرَ قِبَلَ يَمِينِهِ ضَحِكَ، وَإِذَا نَظَرَ قِبَلَ شِمَالِهِ بَكَى.

قَالَ: ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِي جِبْرِيلُ حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ الثَّانِيَةَ، فَقَالَ لِخَازِنِهَا: افْتَحْ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ لَهُ خَازِنُهَا مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ خَازِنُ السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا، فَفَتَحَ».

قَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ: فَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ وَجَدَ فِي السَّمَوَاتِ آدَمَ وَإِدْرِيسَ وَعِيسَى وَمُوسَى وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِمْ أَجْمَعِينَ، وَلَمْ يُثْبِتْ كَيْفَ مَنَازِلُهُمْ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ قَدْ وَجَدَ آدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فِي السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا، وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي السَّمَاءِ السَّادِسَةِ. قَالَ: «فَلَمَّا مَرَّ جِبْرِيلُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِإِدْرِيسَ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ وَالأَخِ الصَّالِحِ. قَالَ: ثُمَّ مَرَّ، فَقُلْتُ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ فَقَالَ: هَذَا إِدْرِيسُ. قَالَ: ثُمَّ مَرَرْتُ بِمُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ، فَقَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ وَالأَخِ الصَّالِحِ. قَالَ: قُلْتُ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: هَذَا مُوسَى. قَالَ: ثُمَّ مَرَرْتُ بِعِيسَى، فَقَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ وَالأَخِ الصَّالِحِ. قُلْتُ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ. قَالَ: ثُمَّ مَرَرْتُ بِإِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ، فَقَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ وَالاِبْنِ الصَّالِحِ. قَالَ: قُلْتُ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: هَذَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ».

قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ: وَأَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ حَزْمٍ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ وَأَبَا حَبَّةَ الأَنْصَارِيَّ كَانَا يَقُولاَنِ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِي حَتَّى ظَهَرْتُ لِمُسْتَوًى أَسْمَعُ فِيهِ صَرِيفَ الأَقْلاَمِ».

قَالَ ابْنُ حَزْمٍ وَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «فَفَرَضَ اللَّهُ عَلَى أُمَّتِي خَمْسِينَ صَلاَةً. قَالَ: فَرَجَعْتُ بِذَلِكَ حَتَّى أَمُرَّ بِمُوسَى، فَقَالَ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ: مَاذَا فَرَضَ رَبُّكَ عَلَى أُمَّتِكَ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: فَرَضَ عَلَيْهِمْ خَمْسِينَ صَلاَةً. قَالَ لِي مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ: فَرَاجِعْ رَبَّكَ، فَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لاَ تُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ. قَالَ: فَرَاجَعْتُ رَبِّي فَوَضَعَ شَطْرَهَا. قَالَ: فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ، قَالَ: رَاجِعْ رَبَّكَ، فَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لاَ تُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ. قَالَ: فَرَاجَعْتُ رَبِّي، فَقَالَ: هِيَ خَمْسٌ وَهْىَ خَمْسُونَ، لاَ يُبَدَّلُ الْقَوْلُ لَدَىَّ. قَالَ: فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى، فَقَالَ: رَاجِعْ رَبَّكَ، فَقُلْتُ: قَدِ اسْتَحْيَيْتُ مِنْ رَبِّي. قَالَ: ثُمَّ انْطَلَقَ بِي جِبْرِيلُ حَتَّى نَأْتِيَ سِدْرَةَ الْمُنْتَهَى، فَغَشِيَهَا أَلْوَانٌ لاَ أَدْرِي مَا هِيَ. قَالَ: ثُمَّ أُدْخِلْتُ الْجَنَّةَ، فَإِذَا فِيهَا جَنَابِذُ اللُّؤْلُؤِ، وَإِذَا تُرَابُهَا الْمِسْكُ».

"While I was at the Ka'bah, in a state between sleep and wakefulness, three men came, and one of them who was in the middle came toward me. I was brought a basin of gold, filled with wisdom and faith, and he slit open from the throat to the lower abdomen, and washed the heart with Zamzam water, then - "it was filled with wisdom and faith. Then I was brought a riding-beast, smaller than a mule and bigger than a donkey. I set off with Jibril, peace be upon him, and we came to the lowest heaven. It was said: 'Who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad.' It was said: 'Has (revelation) been sent to him? Welcome to him, what an excellent visit his is.' I came to Adam, peace be upon him, and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent son and Prophet.' Then we came to the second heaven and it was said: 'Who is this?' He said: 'Jibra'il.' [1] It was said: 'Who is with you?' he said: 'Muhammad.' And the same exchange took place. I came to Yahya and 'Eisa, peace be upon them both, and greeted them, and they said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent brother and Prophet.' Then we came to the third heaven and it was said: 'Who is this?' He said: 'Jibra'il.' It was said: 'Who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad.' And the same exchange took place. I came to Yusuf, peace be upon him, and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent brother and Prophet.' Then we came to the fourth heaven and the same exchange took place. I came to Idris, peace be upon him, and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent brother and Prophet.' Then we came to the fifth heaven and the same exchange took place. I came to Harun, peace be upon him, and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent brother and Prophet.' Then we came to the sixth heaven and the same exchange took place. I came to Musa, peace be upon him, and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent brother and Prophet.' What I passed him, he wept, and it was said: 'Why are you weeping?' He said: 'O Lord, this young man whom You have sent after me, more of his Ummah will enter Paradise than from my nation, and they will be more virtuous than them.' Then we came to the seventh heaven and a similar exchange took place. I came to Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent son and Prophet.' Then I was taken up to the Oft-Frequented House (Al-Bait al-Ma'mur) and I asked Jibra'il about it, and he said: 'This is Al-Bait al-Ma'mur in which seventy thousand angels pray everyday, and when they leave it they never come back.' Then I was taken up to Sidrah Al-Muntaha (the Lote-Tree of the Utmost Boundary). Its fruits were like Qilal [2] of Hajar and its leaves were like the ears of elephants. At its base were four rivers: Two hidden rivers and two manifest rivers. I asked Jibril (About them) and he said: 'The two hidden ones are in paradise, and the two manifest ones are the Euphrates and the Nile.' Then fifty prayers were enjoined upon me. I came to Musa and he said: 'What happened?' I said: 'Fifty prayers have been enjoined upon me.' He said: 'I know more about the people than you. I tried hard with the Children of Israel. Your Ummah will never be able to bear that. Go back to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it for you.' So I went back to my Lord and asked Him to reduce it, and He made it forty. Then I went back to Musa, peace be upon him, and he said: 'What happened?' I said: 'He made it forty.' He said to me something similar to what he said the first time, so I went back to my Lord and He made it thirty. I came to Musa, peace be upon him, and told him, and he said to me something similar to what he said the first time, so I went back to my Lord and he made it twenty, then ten, then five. I came to Musa, peace be upon him, and he said to me something like he had said the first time, but I said: 'I feel too shy before my Lord to go back to Him.' Then it was called out: 'I have decreed (the reward for) My obligation, and I have reduced the burden for My slaves and I will give a ten-fold reward for each good deed.'" أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ بَيْنَا أَنَا عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ بَيْنَ النَّائِمِ وَالْيَقْظَانِ إِذْ أَقْبَلَ أَحَدُ الثَّلاَثَةِ بَيْنَ الرَّجُلَيْنِ فَأُتِيتُ بِطَسْتٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ مَلآنَ حِكْمَةً وَإِيمَانًا فَشَقَّ مِنَ النَّحْرِ إِلَى مَرَاقِّ الْبَطْنِ فَغَسَلَ الْقَلْبَ بِمَاءِ زَمْزَمَ ثُمَّ مُلِئَ حِكْمَةً وَإِيمَانًا ثُمَّ أُتِيتُ بِدَابَّةٍ دُونَ الْبَغْلِ وَفَوْقَ الْحِمَارِ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقْتُ مَعَ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَأَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا فَقِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى آدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنِ ابْنٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الثَّانِيَةَ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى يَحْيَى وَعِيسَى فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِمَا فَقَالاَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الثَّالِثَةَ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى يُوسُفَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الرَّابِعَةَ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى إِدْرِيسَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الْخَامِسَةَ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى هَارُونَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ السَّادِسَةَ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ فَلَمَّا جَاوَزْتُهُ بَكَى قِيلَ مَا يُبْكِيكَ قَالَ يَا رَبِّ هَذَا الْغُلاَمُ الَّذِي بَعَثْتَهُ بَعْدِي يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ الْجَنَّةَ أَكْثَرُ وَأَفْضَلُ مِمَّا يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِي ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ السَّابِعَةَ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنِ ابْنٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ رُفِعَ لِيَ الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ فَسَأَلْتُ جِبْرِيلَ فَقَالَ هَذَا الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ يُصَلِّي فِيهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ فَإِذَا خَرَجُوا مِنْهُ لَمْ يَعُودُوا فِيهِ آخِرَ مَا عَلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ رُفِعَتْ لِي سِدْرَةُ الْمُنْتَهَى فَإِذَا نَبِقُهَا مِثْلُ قِلاَلِ هَجَرٍ وَإِذَا وَرَقُهَا مِثْلُ آذَانِ الْفِيَلَةِ وَإِذَا فِي أَصْلِهَا أَرْبَعَةُ أَنْهَارٍ نَهْرَانِ بَاطِنَانِ وَنَهْرَانِ ظَاهِرَانِ فَسَأَلْتُ جِبْرِيلَ فَقَالَ أَمَّا الْبَاطِنَانِ فَفِي الْجَنَّةِ وَأَمَّا الظَّاهِرَانِ فَالْفُرَاتُ وَالنِّيلُ ثُمَّ فُرِضَتْ عَلَىَّ خَمْسُونَ صَلاَةً فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مَا صَنَعْتَ قُلْتُ فُرِضَتْ عَلَىَّ خَمْسُونَ صَلاَةً قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ إِنِّي عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ يُطِيقُوا ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنِّي فَجَعَلَهَا أَرْبَعِينَ ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَقَالَ مَا صَنَعْتَ قُلْتُ جَعَلَهَا أَرْبَعِينَ فَقَالَ لِي مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِهِ الأُولَى فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي ﷻ فَجَعَلَهَا ثَلاَثِينَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ لِي مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِهِ الأُولَى فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَجَعَلَهَا عِشْرِينَ ثُمَّ عَشْرَةً ثُمَّ خَمْسَةً فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَقَالَ لِي مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِهِ الأُولَى فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي أَسْتَحِي مِنْ رَبِّي ﷻ أَنْ أَرْجِعَ إِلَيْهِ فَنُودِيَ أَنْ قَدْ أَمْضَيْتُ فَرِيضَتِي وَخَفَّفْتُ عَنْ عِبَادِي وَأَجْزِي بِالْحَسَنَةِ عَشْرَ أَمْثَالِهَا

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ بَيْنَا أَنَا عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ بَيْنَ النَّائِمِ وَالْيَقْظَانِ إِذْ أَقْبَلَ أَحَدُ الثَّلَاثَةِ بَيْنَ الرَّجُلَيْنِ فَأُتِيتُ بِطَسْتٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ مَلْأن حِكْمَةً وَإِيمَانًا فَشُقَّ مِنَ النَّحْرِ إِلَى مَرَاقٍِ الْبَطْنِ فَغُسِلَ الْقَلْبُ بِمَاءِ زَمْزَمَ ثُمَّ مُلِئَ حِكْمَةً وَإِيمَانًا ثُمَّ أُتِيتُ بِدَابَّةٍ دُونَ الْبَغْلِ وَفَوْقَ الْحِمَارِ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقْتُ مَعَ جِبْرِيلَ فَأَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قِيلَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى آدَمَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ ابْنٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الثَّانِيَةَ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قِيلَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى يَحْيَى وَعِيسَى فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِمَا فَقَالَا مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الثَّالِثَةَ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى يُوسُفَفَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الرَّابِعَةَ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى إِدْرِيسَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الْخَامِسَةَ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى هَارُونَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ السَّادِسَةَ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ فَلَمَّا جَاوَزْتُهُ بَكَى قِيلَ مَا أَبْكَاكَ؟ قَالَ يَا رَبِّ هَذَا الْغُلَامُ الَّذِي بَعَثْتَهُ بَعْدِي يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ الْجَنَّةَ أَكْثَرُ وَأَفْضَلُ مِمَّا يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِي ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ السَّابِعَةَ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ ابْنٍ وَنَبِيٍّ قَالَ ثُمَّ رُفِعَ لِيَ الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ فَسَأَلْتُ جِبْرِيلَ فَقَالَ هَذَا الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ يُصَلِّي فِيهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ إِذَا خَرَجُوا مِنْهُ لَمْ يَعُودُوا فِيهِ آخِرَ مَا عَلَيْهِمْ قَالَ ثُمَّ رُفِعَتْ إِلَيَّ سِدْرَةُ الْمُنْتَهَى فَإِذَا نَبْقُهَا مِثْلُ قِلَالِ هَجَرَ وَإِذَا وَرَقُهَا مِثْلُ آذَانِ الْفِيَلَةِ وَإِذَا فِي أَصْلِهَا أَرْبَعَةُ أَنْهَارٍ نَهَرَانِ بَاطِنَانِ وَنَهَرَانِ ظَاهِرَانِ فَسَأَلْتُ جِبْرِيلَ فَقَالَ أَمَّا الْبَاطِنَانِ فَفِي الْجَنَّةِ وَأَمَّا الظَّاهِرَانِ فَالْفُرَاتُ وَالنِّيلُقَالَ ثُمَّ فُرِضَتْ عَلَيَّ خَمْسُونَ صَلَاةً فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مَا صَنَعْتَ؟ قُلْتُ فُرِضَتْ عَلَيَّ خَمْسُونَ صَلَاةً فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ إِنِّي عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ يُطِيقُوا ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنِّي فَجَعَلَهَا أَرْبَعِينَ ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَا صَنَعْتَ؟ قُلْتُ جَعَلَهَا أَرْبَعِينَ فَقَالَ لِي مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِهِ الْأُولَى فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَجَعَلَهَا ثَلَاثِينَ فَأَتَيْتُ مُوسَى فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ لِي مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِهِ الْأُولَى فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَجَعَلَهَا عِشْرِينَ ثُمَّ عَشْرَةً ثُمَّ خَمْسَةً فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ لِي مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِهِ الْأُولَى فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي أَسْتَحِي مِنْ رَبِّي مِنْ كَمْ أَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِ فَنُودِيَ أَنْ قَدْ أَمْضَيْتُ فَرِيضَتِي وَخَفَّفْتُ عَنْ عِبَادِي وَأَجْزِي بِالْحَسَنَةِ عَشْرَ أَمْثَالِهَا

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ لَيْلَةِ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ قَالَ بَيْنَا أَنَا فِي الْحَطِيمِ وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ قَتَادَةُ فِي الْحِجْرِ مُضْطَجِعٌ إِذْ أَتَانِي آتٍ فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ لِصَاحِبِهِ الْأَوْسَطِ بَيْنَ الثَّلَاثَةِ قَالَ فَأَتَانِي فَقَدَّ وَسَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يَقُولُ فَشَقَّ مَابَيْنَ هَذِهِ إِلَى هَذِهِ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ فَقُلْتُ لِلْجَارُودِ وَهُوَ إِلَى جَنْبِي مَا يَعْنِي قَالَ مِنْ ثُغْرَةِ نَحْرِهِ إِلَى شِعْرَتِهِ وَقَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ مِنْ قَصَّهِ إِلَى شِعْرَتِهِ قَالَ فَاسْتُخْرِجَ قَلْبِي فَأُتِيتُ بِطَسْتٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ مَمْلُوءَةٍ إِيمَانًا وَحِكْمَةً فَغُسِلَ قَلْبِي ثُمَّ حُشِيَ ثُمَّ أُعِيدَ ثُمَّ أُتِيتُ بِدَابَّةٍ دُونَ الْبَغْلِ وَفَوْقَ الْحِمَارِ أَبْيَضَ قَالَ فَقَالَ الْجَارُودُ هُوَ الْبُرَاقُ يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ يَقَعُ خَطْوُهُ عِنْدَ أَقْصَى طَرْفِهِ قَالَ فَحُمِلْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَانْطَلَقَ بِي جِبْرِيلُ حَتَّى أَتَى بِيَ السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا فَاسْتَفْتَحَ فَقِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ أَوَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ قَالَ فَفُتِحَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا فِيهَا آدَمُ فَقَالَ هَذَا أَبُوكَ آدَمُ فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ السَّلَامَ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالِابْنِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِقَالَ ثُمَّ صَعِدَ حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ الثَّانِيَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ فَقِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ أَوَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ قَالَفَفُتِحَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا يَحْيَى وَعِيسَى وَهُمَا ابْنَا الْخَالَةِ فَقَالَ هَذَا يَحْيَى وَعِيسَى فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِمَا قَالَ فَسَلَّمْتُ فَرَدَّا السَّلَامَ ثُمَّ قَالَا مَرْحَبًا بِالْأَخِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ قَالَ ثُمَّ صَعِدَ حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ الثَّالِثَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ فَقِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ أَوَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ قَالَ فَفُتِحَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا يُوسُفُ قَالَ هَذَا يُوسُفُ فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ السَّلَامَ وَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالْأَخِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ ثُمَّ صَعِدَ حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ الرَّابِعَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ فَقِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ مَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ قَالَ فَفُتِحَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا إِدْرِيسُ قَالَ هَذَا إِدْرِيسُ فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ السَّلَامَ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالْأَخِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ قَالَ ثُمَّ صَعِدَ حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ الْخَامِسَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ فَقِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ أَوَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ قَالَ فَفُتِحَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا هَارُونُ قَالَ هَذَا هَارُونُ فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَرَدَّ السَّلَامَ ثُمَّقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالْأَخِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ قَالَ ثُمَّ صَعِدَ حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ السَّادِسَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ أَوَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَفُتِحَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا أَنَا بِمُوسَى قَالَ هَذَا مُوسَى فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ السَّلَامَ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالْأَخِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ قَالَ فَلَمَّا تَجَاوَزْتُ بَكَى قِيلَ لَهُ مَا يُبْكِيكَ؟ قَالَ أَبْكِي لِأَنَّ غُلَامًا بُعِثَ بَعْدِي يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ أَكْثَرُ مِمَّا يَدْخُلُهَا مِنْ أُمَّتِي قَالَ ثُمَّ صَعِدَ حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ السَّابِعَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ أَوَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ قَالَ فَفُتِحَ فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ فَقَالَ هَذَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ السَّلَامَ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِالِابْنِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِقَالَ ثُمَّ رُفِعَتْ إِلَيَّ سِدْرَةُ الْمُنْتَهَى فَإِذَا نَبْقُهَا مِثْلُ قِلَالِ هَجَرَ وَإِذَا وَرَقُهَا مِثْلُ آذَانِ الْفِيَلَةِ فَقَالَ هَذِهِ سِدْرَةُ الْمُنْتَهَى قَالَ وَإِذَا أَرْبَعَةُ أَنْهَارٍ نَهَرَانِ بَاطِنَانِ وَنَهَرَانِ ظَاهِرَانِ فَقُلْتُ مَا هَذَا يَا جِبْرِيلُ؟ قَالَ أَمَّا الْبَاطِنَانِ فَنَهَرَانِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَأَمَّا الظَّاهِرَانِفَالنِّيلُ وَالْفُرَاتُ قَالَ ثُمَّ رُفِعَ لِيَ الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ رَأَى الْبَيْتَ الْمَعْمُورَ يَدْخُلُهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ ثُمَّ لَا يَعُودُونَ فِيهِ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى حَدِيثِ أَنَسٍ قَالَ ثُمَّ أُتِيتُ بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ خَمْرٍ وَإِنَاءٍ مِنْ لَبَنٍ وَإِنَاءٍ مِنْ عَسَلٍ قَالَ فَأَخَذْتُ اللَّبَنَ قَالَ هَذِهِ الْفِطْرَةُ أَنْتَ عَلَيْهَا وَأُمَّتُكَ قَالَ ثُمَّ فُرِضَتِ الصَّلَاةُ خَمْسِينَ صَلَاةً كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ فَمَرَرْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ بِمَ أُمِرْتَ؟ قَالَ أُمِرْتُ بِخَمْسِينَ صَلَاةً كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا تَسْتَطِيعُ لِخَمْسِينَ صَلَاةً وَإِنِّي قَدْ خَبَرْتُ النَّاسَ قَبْلَكَ وَعَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ لِأُمَّتِكَ قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ فَوَضَعَ عَنِّي عَشْرًا قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ بِمَا أُمِرْتَ؟ قُلْتُ بِأَرْبَعِينَ صَلَاةً كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا تَسْتَطِيعُ أَرْبَعِينَ صَلَاةً كُلَّ يَوْمٍ وَإِنِّي قَدْ خَبَرْتُ النَّاسَ قَبْلَكَ وَعَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ لِأُمَّتِكَ قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ فَوَضَعَ عَنِّي عَشْرًا أُخْرَى فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ لِي بِمَأُمِرْتَ؟ قُلْتُ أُمِرْتُ بِثَلَاثِينَ صَلَاةً كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا تَسْتَطِيعُ لِثَلَاثِينَ صَلَاةً كُلَّ يَوْمٍ وَإِنِّي قَدْ خَبَرْتُ النَّاسَ قَبْلَكَ وَعَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ لِأُمَّتِكَ قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ فَوَضَعَ عَنِّي عَشْرًا أُخَرَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ بِمَا أُمِرْتَ؟ قُلْتُ بِعِشْرِينَ صَلَاةً كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا تَسْتَطِيعُ لِعِشْرِينَ صَلَاةً كُلَّ يَوْمٍ وَإِنِّي قَدْ خَبَرْتُ النَّاسَ قَبْلَكَ وَعَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ لِأُمَّتِكَ قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ فَأُمِرْتُ بِعَشْرِ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ بِمَا أُمِرْتَ؟ قُلْتُ بِعَشْرِ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا تَسْتَطِيعُ لِعَشْرِ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فَإِنِّي قَدْ خَبَرْتُ النَّاسَ قَبْلَكَ وَعَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ لِأُمَّتِكَ قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ فَأُمِرْتُ بِخَمْسِ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ بِمَا أُمِرْتَ؟ قُلْتُ أُمِرْتُ بِخَمْسِ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا تَسْتَطِيعُ لِخَمْسِ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ وَإِنِّي قَدْ خَبَرْتُ النَّاسَ قَبْلَكَ وَعَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ لِأُمَّتِكَ قَالَ قُلْتُ قَدْ سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي حَتَّى اسْتَحْيَيْتُ مِنْهُ وَلَكِنْ أَرْضَى وَأُسَلِّمُ فَلَمَّا نَفَذْتُ نَادَى مُنَادٍ قَدْ أَمْضَيْتُ فَرِيضَتِي وَخَفَّفْتُ عَنْ عِبَادِي

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "I was brought the Buraq, which is a white animal between a mule and a donkey. It places its hoof at the edge of its eyesight and I rode it until I reached Beit Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). I tied the animal to the ring to which all the prophets tie their animals, then I entered and prayed two units of prayer. Then I came out and Gabriel came to me with a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk, and I chose the milk. Gabriel said, 'You have chosen the Fitrah (the natural disposition).' Then he took me up to the lower heaven, where he asked permission to enter. He was asked, 'Who is with you?' He said, 'Muhammad.' It was said, 'Has he been sent for?' He said, 'He has indeed been sent for.' So the gates were opened for us, and behold! - I saw Adam and welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then we ascended to the second heaven, and he asked permission to enter. He was asked the same questions, and he gave the same answers. Then the gates were opened, and behold! - I saw John and Jesus and they welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I ascended to the third heaven, and he asked permission to enter. He was asked the same questions, and he gave the same answers. Then the gates were opened, and behold! - I saw Joseph and he welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I ascended to the fourth heaven, and he asked permission to enter. He was asked the same questions, and he gave the same answers. Then the gates were opened, and behold! - I saw Idris and he welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I ascended to the fifth heaven, and he asked permission to enter. He was asked the same questions, and

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ أُتِيتُ بِالْبُرَاقِ وَهُوَ دَابَّةٌ أَبْيَضُ فَوْقَ الْحِمَارِ وَدُونَ الْبَغْلِ يَضَعُ حَافِرَهُ عِنْدَ مُنْتَهَى طَرْفِهِ فَرَكِبْتُهُ فَسَارَ بِي حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ فَرَبَطْتُ الدَّابَّةَ بِالْحَلْقَةِ الَّتِي يَرْبِطُ فِيهَا الْأَنْبِيَاءُ ثُمَّ دَخَلْتُ فَصَلَّيْتُ فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ فَجَاءَنِي جِبْرِيلُ بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ خَمْرٍ وَإِنَاءٍ مِنْ لَبَنٍ فَاخْتَرْتُ اللَّبَنَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ أَصَبْتَ الْفِطْرَةَ قَالَ ثُمَّ عُرِجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ وَمَنْ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَقِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِآدَمَ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عُرِجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الثَّانِيَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ وَمَنْ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَقِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِابْنَيِالْخَالَةِ يَحْيَى وَعِيسَى فَرَحَّبَا وَدَعَوَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عُرِجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الثَّالِثَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَقِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِيُوسُفَ فَإِذَا هُوَ قَدْ أُعْطِيَ شَطْرَ الْحُسْنِ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عُرِجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الرَّابِعَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَقِيلَ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ الْبَابُ فَإِذَا أَنَا بِإِدْرِيسَ فَرَحَّبَ بِي وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَقُولُ اللهُ {وَرَفَعْنَاهُ مَكَانًا عَلِيًّا} [مريم 57] ثُمَّ عُرِجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الْخَامِسَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَقِيلَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِهَارُونَ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عُرِجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ السَّادِسَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَقِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِمُوسَى فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍثُمَّ عُرِجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ السَّابِعَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِإِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِذَا هُوَ مُسْتَنِدٌ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ وَإِذَا هُوَ يَدْخُلُهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ لَا يَعُودُونَ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ بِي إِلَى سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَى وَإِذَا وَرَقُهَا كَآذَانِ الْفِيَلَةِ وَإِذَا ثَمَرُهَا كَالْقِلَالِ فَلَمَّا غَشِيَهَا مِنْ أَمْرِ اللهِ مَا غَشِيَهَا تَغَيَّرَتْ فَمَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ خَلْقِ اللهِ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَصِفَهَا مِنْ حُسْنِهَا قَالَ فَأَوْحَى اللهُ إِلَيَّ مَا أَوْحَى وَفَرَضَ عَلَيَّ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ خَمْسِينَ صَلَاةً فَنَزَلْتُ حَتَّى انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مَا فَرَضَ رَبُّكَ عَلَى أُمَّتِكَ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ خَمْسِينَ صَلَاةً فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ قَالَ ارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ فَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا تُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ وَإِنِّي قَدْ بَلَوْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَخَبَرْتُهُمْ قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَقُلْتُ أَيْ رَبِّ خَفِّفْ عَنْ أُمَّتِي فَحَطَّ عَنِّي خَمْسًا فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مَا فَعَلْتَ؟ قُلْتُ حَطَّ عَنِّي خَمْسًا قَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا تُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ لِأُمَّتِكَ قَالَ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَرْجِعُ بَيْنَ رَبِّي وَبَيْنَ مُوسَى وَيَحُطُّ عَنِّي خَمْسًا خَمْسًا حَتَّى قَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ هِيَ خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ بِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ عَشْرٌ فَتِلْكَ خَمْسُونَصَلَاةً وَمَنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كُتِبَتْ حَسَنَةً فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ عَشْرًا وَمَنْ هَمَّ بِسَيِّئَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا لَمْ تُكْتَبْ شَيْئًا فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ سَيِّئَةً وَاحِدَةً فَنَزَلْتُ حَتَّى انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ ارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ لِأُمَّتِكَ فَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا تُطِيقُ ذَاكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ رَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي حَتَّى لَقَدِ اسْتَحَيْتُ

مَالِكِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَرْمَلِيُّ أَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ ثنا أَبِي عَنِ الْخَلِيلِ بْنِ مَرَّةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ ثنا أَبُو حَفْصٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ثنا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَا أَنَا فِي الْحَطِيمِ وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ فِي الْحِجْرِ بَيْنَ النَّائِمِ وَالْيَقْظَانِ إِذَا أَتَانِي آتٍ فَشَقَّ مِنَ النَّحْرِ إِلَى مَرَاقِّ الْبَطْنِ فَاسْتَخْرَجَ قَلْبِي ثُمَّ أُتِيتُ بِطَسْتٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَغُسِلَ بِمَاءِ زَمْزَمَ وَمُلِئَ حِكْمَةً وَإِيمَانًا وَأُتِيتُ بِدَابَّةٍ دُونَ الْبَغْلِ وَفَوْقَ الْحِمَارِ أَبْيَضُ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْبُرَاقُ يَقَعُ خَطْوُهُ عِنْدَ أَقْصَى طَرْفِهِ فَحُمِلْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَانْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَجِبْرِيلُ ﷺ حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا سَمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ ﷺ فَقِيلَ مَنْ مَعَكَ؟ فَقَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالُوا مَرْحَبًا وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ مَا جَاءَ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَدَخَلْنَا فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى آدَمَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنِ ابْنٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الثَّانِيَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ مَعَكَ؟ فَقَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالُوا مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى عِيسَى وَيَحْيَى فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِمَا فَقَالَا مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الثَّالِثَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ فَقِيلَ مَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قَالُوا وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالُوا مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى يُوسُفَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الرَّابِعَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ ﷺ فَقِيلَ مَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قَالُوا وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالُوا مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى إِدْرِيسَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الْخَامِسَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قَالُوا وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالُوا مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى هَارُونَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ السَّادِسَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قَالُوا وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالُوا مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ فَلَمَّا جَاوَزْتُهُ بَكَى فَقِيلَ مَا يُبْكِيكَ؟ فَقَالَ يَا رَبُّ هَذَا بُعِثَ بَعْدِي يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ الْجَنَّةَ أَكْثَرُ مِمَّا يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِي ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ السَّابِعَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ ﷺ فَقَالُوا مَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قَالُوا أَوَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالُوا مَرْحَبًا بِهِ وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنِ ابْنٍ وَنَبِيٍّ ثُمَّ رُفِعَتْ لَنَا سِدْرَةُ الْمُنْتَهَى فَسَأَلْتُ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ فَقَالَ هَذِهِ سِدْرَةُ الْمُنْتَهَى وَإِذَا نَبْقُهَا كَالْقِلَالِ وَإِذَا وَرَقُهَا كَأُذُنِ الْفِيَلَةِ وَرَأَيْتُ فِي أَصْلِهَا أَرْبَعَةَ أَنْهَارٍ نَهْرَانِ ظَاهِرَانِ وَنَهْرَانِ بَاطِنَانِ فَسَأَلْتُ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ أَمَا الْبَاطِنَانِ فَنَهَرَانٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَأَمَّا الظَّاهِرَانِ فَالنِّيلُ وَالْفُرَاتُ ثُمَّ رُفِعَ لَنَا الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ فَسَأَلْتُ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ هَذَا الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ يَدْخُلُهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفِ مَلَكٍ ثُمَّ لَا يَعُودُونَ إِلَيْهِ آخِرَ مَا عَلَيْهِمْ وَفُرِضَتْ عَلِيَّ خَمْسُونَ صَلَاةً فَانْطَلَقْتُ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ مَا صَنَعْتَ؟ فَقُلْتُ فُرِضَتْ عَلِيَّ خَمْسُونَ صَلَاةً قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ فَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ فَرَجَعْتُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنِّي فَجَعَلَهَا أَرْبَعِينَ صَلَاةً فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ مَا صَنَعْتَ؟ قُلْتُ جَعَلَهَا أَرْبَعِينَ قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ وَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَسَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ فَرَجَعْتُ فَسَأَلْتُ رَبِّي فَخَفَّفَ عَنِّي عَشْرًا فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مَا صَنَعْتَ؟ فَقُلْتُ جَعَلَهَا ثَلَاثِينَ قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ وَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكِ فَسَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ فَرَجَعْتُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنِّي فَجَعَلَهَا عِشْرِينَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مَا صَنَعْتَ؟ فَقُلْتُ جَعَلَهَا عِشْرِينَ قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ وَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكِ فَسَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنِّي فَجَعَلَهَا خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مَا صَنَعْتَ؟ قُلْتُ جَعَلَهَا خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ وَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكِ فَسَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنِّي فَجَعَلَهَا عَشْرًا فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مَا صَنَعْتَ؟ قُلْتُ جَعَلَهَا عَشْرًا قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ وَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكِ فَسَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنِّي فَوَضَعَ عَنِّي خَمْسًا فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مَا صَنَعْتَ؟ فَقُلْتُ حَطَّ عَنِّي خَمْسًا قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ وَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكِ فَسَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ قُلْتُ قَدِ اسْتَحْيَيْتُ كَمْ أَرْجِعُ إِلَى رَبِّي قَدْ رَضِيتُ وَسَلِمْتَ فَنُودِيَ إِنِّي قَدْ أَمْضَيْتُ فَرِيضَتِي وَخَفَّفْتُ عَنْ عِبَادِي وَأَجْزِي بِالْحَسَنَةِ عَشْرَ أَمْثَالِهَا

الْبَغْلِ يَضَعُ حَافِرَهُ عِنْدَ مُنْتَهَى طَرْفِهِ قَالَ فَرَكِبْتُهُ فَسَارَ بِي حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ بَابَ الْمَقْدِسِ فَرَبَطْتُ الدَّابَّةَ بِالْحَلْقَةِ الَّتِي يَرْبِطُ بِهِ الأَنْبِيَاءُ قَالَ ثُمَّ دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَصَلَّيْتُ فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ فَجَاءَنِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ خَمْرٍ وَإِنَاءٍ مِنْ لَبَنٍ فَاخْتَرْتُ اللَّبَنَ فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ أَصَبْتَ الْفِطْرَةَ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ ومَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ أَنَا جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أنا آدم فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الثَّانِيَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ أَنَا جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْه قَالَ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِابْنَيِ الْخَالَةِ عِيسَى وَيَحْيَى فَرَحَّبَا وَدَعُوا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الثَّالِثة فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِيُوسُفَ وَإِذَا هُوَ قَدْ أُعْطِيَ شَطْرَ الْحُسْنِ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا الرَّابِعَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِإِدْرِيسَ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَقُولُ الله تبارك وتعالى ورفعنه مكانا عليا قَالَ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الْخَامِسَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ ففتح لنا فإذا أَنَا بِهَارُونَ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ السَّادِسَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إليه فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِمُوسَى صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا بِخَيْرٍ ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ السَّابِعَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ قِيلَ وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِإِبْرَاهِيمَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم وَإِذَا هُوَ مُسْنِدٌ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ وَإِذَا هُوَ يَدْخُلُهُ يَعْنِي الْبَيْتَ الْمَعْمُورَ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ ثُمَّ لا يَعُودُونَ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ بِي إِلَى سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَى فَإِذَا وَرَقُهَا كَآذَانِ الْفِيَلَةِ وَإِذَا ثَمَرُهَا كَالْقِلالِ فَلَمَّا غَشِيَهَا مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ مَا غَشِيَ تَغَيَّرَتْ فَمَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ خَلْقِ اللَّهِ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَنْعِتَهَا مِنْ حُسْنِهَا فَأَوْحَى إليَّ مَا أَوْحَى وَفَرَضَ عَلَيَّ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ خَمْسِينَ صَلاةً فَنَزَلْتُ حَتَّى انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مَا فَرَضَ رَبُّكَ عَلَى أُمَّتِكَ قُلْتُ خَمْسِينَ صَلاةً فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ فَقَالَ ارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ فَإِنَّ أُمَّتَك لَا تُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ وَقَدْ بَلَوْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَخَبَرْتُهُمْ قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى فَقُلْتُ أَيْ رَبِّ خَفِّفْ عَنْ أُمَّتِي فَحَطَّ عَنِّي خَمْسًا قَالَ ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مَا فَعَلْتَ قُلْتُ حَطَّ عَنِّي خَمْسًا فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا تُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ لأُمَّتِكَ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَرْجِعُ بَيْنَ ربي وموسى يحط خمسا حتى قال يامحمد هِيَ خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ بِكُلِّ صَلاةٍ عَشْرًا فَتِلْكَ خَمْسُونَ صَلاةً وَمَنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ حَسَنَةٌ فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ عَشْرًا وَمَنْ هَمَّ بسيئة فلم يعملها لم تكتب شئ فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ سَيِّئَةً وَاحِدَةً قَالَ فَنَزَلْتُ حَتَّى انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِذَلِكَ فَقَالَ ارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ فَقُلْتُ قَدْ رَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي حتى استحييت

I was brought al-Buraq Who is an animal white and long, larger than a donkey but smaller than a mule, who would place his hoof a distance equal to the range of version. I mounted it and came to the Temple (Bait Maqdis in Jerusalem), then tethered it to the ring used by the prophets. I entered the mosque and prayed two rak'ahs in it, and then came out and Gabriel brought me a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk. I chose the milk, and Gabriel said: You have chosen the natural thing. Then he took me to heaven. Gabriel then asked the (gate of heaven) to be opened and he was asked who he was. He replied: Gabriel. He was again asked: Who is with you? He (Gabriel) said: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent for? Gabriel replied: He has indeed been sent for. And (the door of the heaven) was opened for us and lo! we saw Adam. He welcomed me and prayed for my good. Then we ascended to the second heaven. Gabriel (peace be upon him) (asked the door of heaven to be opened), and he was asked who he was. He answered: Gabriel; and was again asked: Who is with you? He replied: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. The gate was opened. When I entered 'Isa b. Maryam and Yahya b. Zakariya (peace be upon both of them), cousins from the maternal side. welcomed me and prayed for my good Then I was taken to the third heaven and Gabriel asked for the opening (of the door). He was asked: Who are you? He replied: Gabriel. He was (again) asked: Who is with you? He replied Muhammad ﷺ. It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied He has indeed been sent for. (The gate) was opened for us and I saw Yusuf (peace of Allah be upon him) who had been given half of (world) beauty. He welcomed me prayed for my well-being. Then he ascended with us to the fourth heaven. Gabriel (peace be upon him) asked for the (gate) to be opened, and it was said: Who is he? He replied: Gabriel. It was (again) said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. The (gate) was opened for us, and lo! Idris was there. He welcomed me and prayed for my well-being (About him) Allah, the Exalted and the Glorious, has said:" We elevated him (Idris) to the exalted position" (Qur'an xix. 57). Then he ascended with us to the fifth heaven and Gabriel asked for the (gate) to be opened. It was said: Who is he? He replied Gabriel. It was (again) said: Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad. It was said Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. (The gate) was opened for us and then I was with Harun (Aaron-peace of Allah be upon him). He welcomed me prayed for my well-being. Then I was taken to the sixth heaven. Gabriel (peace be upon him) asked for the door to be opened. It was said: Who is he? He replied: Gabriel. It was said: Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. (The gate) was opened for us and there I was with Musa (Moses peace be upon him) He welcomed me and prayed for my well-being. Then I was taken up to the seventh heaven. Gabriel asked the (gate) to be opened. It was said: Who is he? He said: Gabriel It was said. Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad (may peace be upon him.) It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. (The gate) was opened for us and there I found Ibrahim (Abraham peace be upon him) reclining against the Bait-ul-Ma'mur and there enter into it seventy thousand angels every day, never to visit (this place) again. Then I was taken to Sidrat-ul-Muntaha whose leaves were like elephant ears and its fruit like big earthenware vessels. And when it was covered by the Command of Allah, it underwent such a change that none amongst the creation has the power to praise its beauty. Then Allah revealed to me a revelation and He made obligatory for me fifty prayers every day and night. Then I went down to Moses (peace be upon him) and he said: What has your Lord enjoined upon your Ummah? I said: Fifty prayers. He said: Return to thy Lord and beg for reduction (in the number of prayers), for your community shallnot be able to bear this burden. as I have put to test the children of Isra'il and tried them (and found them too weak to bear such a heavy burden). He (the Holy Prophet) said: I went back to my Lord and said: My Lord, make things lighter for my Ummah. (The Lord) reduced five prayers for me. I went down to Moses and said. (The Lord) reduced five (prayers) for me, He said: Verily thy Ummah shall not be able to bear this burden; return to thy Lord and ask Him to make things lighter. I then kept going back and forth between my Lord Blessed and Exalted and Moses, till He said: There are five prayers every day and night. O Muhammad, each being credited as ten, so that makes fifty prayers. He who intends to do a good deed and does not do it will have a good deed recorded for him; and if he does it, it will be recorded for him as ten; whereas he who intends to do an evil deed and does not do, it will not be recorded for him; and if he does it, only one evil deed will be recorded. I then came down and when I came to Moses and informed him, he said: Go back to thy Lord and ask Him to make things lighter. Upon this the Messenger of Allah remarked: I returned to my Lord until I felt ashamed before Him. (Using translation from Muslim 162a)

"أُتيتُ بالبُراقِ، وهو دابَّةٌ أبيضٌ طويلٌ، فوق الحمارِ ودون البغلِ،

يضع حافره عند منتهى طَرْفه، فركبته حتى أتيتُ بيت المقدسِ، فربطته بالحلقةِ التي تربِط بها الأنبياءُ، ثم دخلت المسجد فصليت فيه ركعتين، ثمَّ خرجت فجاءنى جبريلُ بإناءٍ من خمرٍ وإناءٍ من لبن، فاخترتُ اللبَن، فقال جبريلُ: اخترت الفطرة، ثمَّ عُرِج بنا إلى السماءِ، فاستفتح جبريلُ، فقيل: من أنت؟ قال جبريلُ، قيل: ومن معك؟ قال: محمَّد، قيل وقد بعث إليه؟ قال: قد بعث إليه فَفُتح لنا، فإذا أنا بآدم. فرحب بي، ودعا لي بخير، ثمَّ عُرج بنا إلى السماء الثانية، فاستفتح جبريلُ، فقيل: من أنت؟ قال: جبريلُ، قيل: ومن معك؟ قال: محمَّد، قيل: وقد بعث إليه؟ قال: قد بُعث إليه، فَفُتح لنا، فإذا أنا بابنى الخالةِ: عيسى بن مريم ويحيى بن زكريا، فرحبا بي، ودعوا لي بخير، ثمَّ عرج بنا إلى السماء الثالثة، فاستفتح جبريل، فقيل: من أنت؟ قال: جبريل. قيل: ومن معك؟ قال: محمَّد، قيل: وقد بعث إليه؟ قال: قد بعث إليه، ففتح لنا فإذا أنا بيوسف، وإذا هو قد أعطى شطر الحسن، فرحب بي، ودعا لي بخير، ثمَّ عرج بنا إلى السماء الرابعة، فاستفتح جبريلُ. قيل: من هذا؟ قال: جبريل. قيل ومن معك: قال: محمَّد. قيل: وقد بعِثَ إليه؟ قال: قد بعث إليه، ففتح لنا، فإذا أنا بإدريس، فرحب بي، ودعا لي بخير، قال الله تعالى: {وَرَفَعْنَاهُ مَكَانًا عَلِيًّا} ثمَّ عُرِجَ بنَا إلى السماءِ الخامسةِ، فاستَفتحَ جبريلُ: فقيل من هذا؟ قال: جبريلُ. قيل: ومن معك؟ قال: محمَّد. قيل: وقد بعث إليه؟ قال: قد بعث إليه ففتح لنا، فإذا أنا بهارون فرحب بي ودعا لِى بخير، ثمَّ عرج بنا إلى السماء السادسة، فاستفتح جبريلُ فقيل: من هذا؟ قال: جبريلُ. قيل: ومن معك؟ قال: محمَّد، قيل وقد بعث إليه؟ قال قد بُعِثَ إليه، ففتح لنا فإذا أنا بموسى فرحب بي ودعا لي بخير، ثمَّ عرج بنا إلى السماء السابعة، فاستفتح جبريلُ فقيل: من هذا؟ قال: جبريلُ، قيل: ومن معك؟ قال: محمَّد، قيل: وقد بُعِثَ إليه؟ قال: قد بُعِثَ إليه، ففتح لنا فَإذا أنا بإبراهيم مسندًا ظهره إلى البيت المعمور، وإذا هو يدخُله كل يومٍ سبعون ألف ملك لا يعودون إليه، ثمَّ ذهب بي إلى سدرة المنّتهى، وإذا ورقها كآذان الفيلة، وإذا ثمرها كالفلالِ، فلما غشِيها من أمر اللهِ ما غَشِى تغيرت، فما أحدٌ من خلقِ اللهِ يستطيعُ أن ينعتها من حسنها، فأوْحَى إلىَّ ما أَوحى، ففرض على خمسين صلاة في كلِّ يوم وليلة، فنزلت إلى موسى، فقال: ما فرض ربُّكَ على أمتك؟ قلت: خمسين صلاة. قال: ارجع إلى ربك فاسأله التخفيف فإن أمتك لا تُطيق ذلك، فإنى قد بلوتُ بني إِسرائيل، وخبرتهم، فرجعت إلى ربى فقلت: يا رب خفف عن أمتي، فحط عنَّي خمسًا، فرجعت إلى موسى، فقلت: حط عني خمسًا، قال: إن أمتك لا يطيقون ذلك، فارجع إلى ربك فاسأله التخفيف، فلم أزل أرجع بين ربى وبين موسى حتى قال: يا محمَّد إنهن خمس صلواتٍ كل يوم وليلة، لكل صلاة عشر (فذلك) خمسون صلاة، ومن هَمَّ بحسنةٍ فلم يعملها كتبت له حسنة، فإن عملها كتبت له عشرًا، ومن هم بسيئةٍ فلم يعملها لم تكتب شيئًا فإن عملها كتبت سيئة واحدة، فنزلتُ حتى انتهيت إلى موسى فأخبرته، فقال: ارجع إلى ربك فاسأله التخفيف، فقلت: قد رجعت إلى ربى حتى استحييتُ مِنه.

"بَيْنَمَا أَنَا في الْحَطِيمِ مُضْطَجِعًا إِذْ أَتَانِى آتٍ فَقَدَّ (أ) مَا بَيْنَ هَذِهِ إِلَى هَذِهِ، فَاسْتَخْرجَ قَلْبِى، ثُمَّ أُتِيتُ بِطَش "بطست" مِنْ ذَهَبٍ مَمْلُوءٍ إِيمَانًا فَغَسَلَ قَلْبِى بَمَاءِ زَمْزَمَ، ثُمَّ حُشِىَ ثُمَّ أُعِيدَ، ثُم أتِيتُ بَدِابَّةٍ دُون الْبَغْلِ وَفَوْق الْحِمَارِ أَبْيَض يُقَالُ له الْبُرَاقُ، يَضَعُ خَطْوَةً عِنْدَ أَقْصَى طَرَفِهِ، فَحُمِلتُ عَلَيْه، فَانْطَلَقَ بِى جبريلُ حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا فَاسْتَفْتَحَ قِيلَ: مَن هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ، قِيلَ: وَمْن مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ: مُحَمَّد، قِيلَ: وَقَدْ أُرسِلَ إِلَيْهِ قال: نعم، قال مرحبًا به، فنعم المجئ جاء ففتح فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فإذا آدم؟ قَالَ هذا أَبُوكَ آدَمُ فَسَلِّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَليْه فَرَدَّ السَّلَام، ثُمَّ قَاَل: مَرْحبًا بِالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِح والابن الصَّالِح ثُمَ صَعَدَ حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاء الثَّانِيَة فَاسْتَفْتَحَ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيل، قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ: مُحَمَّد، قِيلَ وَقَدْ أرسل إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا فَنِعْمَ الْمَجِئ جَاءَ فَفَتَحَ فَلَمَّا خلصتُ إِذَا بيَحْيى وَعِيسَى وَهُمَا ابْنَا الْخَالَة قَالَ: هَذَا يَحْيَى وَعِيسَى فَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهمَا فَسَلَّمتُ فَرَدَّا، ثُمَّ

قَالَا: مَرْحَبًا بِالأخِ الصَّالِح والنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِح، ثُمَّ صَعَد بِى إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الثَّالِثَة فَاسْتَفْتَح فَقِيلَ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيل قِيلَ: وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ: مُحَمَّد، قِيلَ وَقَدْ أرسلَ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا فَنِعْم الْمَجئ جَاءَ فَفَتَح فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ إِذَا يُوسُف، قَالَ: هَذَا يُوسُف فَسَلِّم عَلَيْهِ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْه فَرَدَّ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِالأَخِ الصَّالِح وَالنَّبِى الصَّالِحِ، ثُمَّ صَعِدَ بِى إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الرَّابِعَة فَاسْتَفْتَحَ قِيلَ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جبريل، قيل ومن معك؟ قال: محمد، قيل أوقد أرسل إليه؟ قال: نعم، قِيلَ مَرْحَبًا، فَنعْم الْمَجِئُ جَاءَ، فَلَمَّا خَلَصتُ إِذَا إِدْرِيس، قَالَ هَذَا إدْرِيس فَسَلِّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَسَلَّمْتُ فَرَدَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِالأَخِ الصَّالِح وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ، ثُمَّ صَعِدَ بِى حَتَّى أَتَى السَّمَاءَ الْخَامِسَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ، قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: جِبْرِيل، قِيلَ: وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ مُحَمَّد قِيلَ: وَقَدْ أُرْسل إِلَيْه؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ قِيلَ: مَرْحبًا بِه فَنِعْمَ الْمَجِئ جَاءَ، فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ إِذَا هَاروُن فَسَلِّمَ عَلَيْه فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْه فَرَد ثُمَّ قَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِالأَخِ الصَّالِحِ والنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ، ثُمَّ صَعِد بِى إِلَى السَّماء السَّادِسَة فَاسْتَفْتَحَ قِيلَ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيل، قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ: مُحَمَّد، قِيلَ: وَقَد أُرسل إلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قِيلَ: مَرْحَبًا بِهِ فَنِعْمَ الْمَجِئ جَاءَ، فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا مُوَسى، قَالَ: هَذَا مُوسَى فَسَلِّمَ عَلَيْهِ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِالأَخ الصَّالِحِ والنَّبِى الصَّالِحِ، فَلَمَّا تَجَاوَزْتُ بكَى قِيلَ لَهُ: مَا يُبْكيكَ؟ قَالَ: أَبْكى لأَنَّ غُلَامًا بُعثَ بَعْدى يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مِنْ أمَّتِهِ أَكْثَرُ مِمَّنْ يَدْخُلها مِنْ أُمَّتِى، ثُمَّ صَعِدَ بِى إِلَى السَّماء السَّابِعَة فاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ، قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ جِبْرِيل، قِيلَ: وَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ: مُحَمَّد، قِيلَ: وَقَدْ بُعث إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قِيلَ: مَرْحَبًا بِهِ فَنِعْم الْمَجِئ جَاءَ، فَلَمَّا خَلَصْتُ فَإِذَا إِبْرَاهِيم، قَالَ: هَذَا أَبُوكَ فَسَلِّم عَلَيْهِ، فَسَلَّمَتُ عَلَيْه فَرَدَّ السَّلَام، فَقَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِالنَّبِى الصَّالِح والابْنِ الصَّالِح، ثُمَّ رُفِعْتُ إِلى سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهى فَإِذَا أَرْبَعَةُ أَنْهَارٍ، نَهْرَانِ بَاطِنَانِ، ونَهْرَانِ ظَاهِرَانِ، قُلْتُ: مَا هَذا يَا جِبْرِيل؟ قَالَ: أما الْبَاطِنَانِ فَنَهْرانِ فِى الْجَنَّةِ، وأَمَّا الظَّاهِرَانِ فَالنِّيلُ وَالْفُرَاتُ، ثُمَّ رُفِعْتُ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُور، فَقُلْتُ يَا جِبْرِيل: مَا هَذَا؟

قَالَ: هَذَا الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ يَدخلهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ إِذَا خَرَجُوا مِنهُ لمْ يَعُودُوا إِلَيْه أَخِرَ مَا عَليْهِم، ثُمَ أُتيت بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ خَمْرٍ، وَإِنَاءٍ مِنْ لَبَنٍ، وَإِنَاءٍ مِنْ عَسَلٍ، فَأَخَذْتُ اللَّبَنَ، فَقَالَ: هِىَ الْفِطْرةُ الَّتِى أَنْتَ عَلَيهَا وَأُمَّتُكَ، ثُمَّ فرِضت الصَّلاةُ عَلَىَّ خَمْسِينَ صَلَاة كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فَرَجَعْتُ فَمَرَرْتُ عَلَى مَوسَى فَقَالَ بِمَ أمرتَ؟ قُلْتُ: أمِرْتُ بَخَمْسِينَ صَلَاةً كُلَّ يَوْمٍ، قَالَ: إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَا تَسْتطِيعُ خَمْسينَ صَلَاةً كُلَّ يَومٍ وَإِنِّى وَالله لَقَدْ جَرَّبتُ النَّاسَ قَبْلَكَ، وَعَالَجْت بَنِى إِسْرَائيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمعالَجة، فَارْجع إِلَى ربِّكَ فَاسْأَلهُ التَّخْفِيفَ لأمَّتِكَ فَرَجَعْتُ، فَوضَعَ عنِّى عَشْرًا، فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى، فَقَالَ مثله، فرجعت فَوَضَعَ عَنِّى عَشْرًا، فَرَجَعتُ إِلَى مُوْسَى فَقَالَ مِثْلَهُ فَرَجَعْتُ فَوَضَعَ عنِّى عَشْرًا، فَرَجَعَتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ مِثْلَه فَرَجَعْتُ فَوَضَعَ عَنِّى عَشْرًا، فَأمْرتُ بِعَشْرِ صَلَوَات كَلَّ يوم فَقَال مِثْله، وَرَجَعْتُ فَأمِرْتُ بِخَمْسِ كُلَّ يَوْم، قَالَ: إِنَّ أُمَّتكَ لَا تَسْتطيع خَمْس صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَومٍ، وَإِنِّى جَرَّبْتُ النَّاسَ قَبْلَكَ وعَالَجتُ بَنِى إسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمعَالَجَة، فَارْجِع إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلهُ التَّخْفيف لأُمتِكَ، قُلْتُ: سَأَلْتُ رَبِّى حَتَّى اسْتَحْييتُ، وَلكن أَرضى وَأُسَلِّم، فَلَمَّا جَاوَزْتُ نَادَانِى مُنَادٍ أَمْضَيْت فَرِيضَتِى، وَخَفَّفْتُ عَنْ عِبَادِى".
