ahmad:21063[Chain 1] ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Sufyān [Chain 2] Shuʿbah > Abū Isḥāq > Saʿīd b. Wahb > Khabbāb

[Machine] "We complained to the Prophet, ﷺ , about the intensity of hunger, but he did not complain about us, meaning in prayer. Ibn Ja'far said he also did not complain about us."  

أحمد:٢١٠٦٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ح وَابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ خَبَّابٍ قَالَ

شَكَوْنَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ شِدَّةَ الرَّمْضَاءِ فَمَا أَشْكَانَا يَعْنِي فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَقَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ فَلَمْ يُشْكِنَا

[Machine] "And by Allah, you have raised me well," they said. "Are you Abdullah bin Khabbab, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" He replied, "Yes." They asked, "Have you heard any narrations from your father about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that you could narrate to us?" He answered, "Yes, I have heard him mention a trial where those who remain sitting are better than those who stand, those who stand are better than those who walk, and those who walk are better than those who run." They said, "If you witness such a trial, then be Abdullah the one who is killed." Ayyub said, "I do not know him except to say that he is Abdullah bin Khabbab." They said, "And do not be Abdullah the one who kills." They asked, "Did you hear this from your father, who narrated it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" He replied, "Yes." They then placed him by the side of the river, and they severed his neck. His blood flowed as if it were the slit of a shoe. And they slaughtered his pregnant wife, ripping her womb open."  

أحمد:٢١٠٦٤حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَخْبَرَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ كَانَ مَعَ الْخَوَارِجِ ثُمَّ فَارَقَهُمْ قَالَدَخَلُوا قَرْيَةً فَخَرَجَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ خَبَّابٍ ذَعِرًا يَجُرُّ رِدَاءَهُ فَقَالُوا لَمْ تُرَعْ؟ قَالَ

وَاللهِ لَقَدْ رُعْتُمُونِي قَالُوا أَنْتَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ خَبَّابٍ صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَهَلْ سَمِعْتَ مِنْ أَبِيكَ حَدِيثًا يُحَدِّثُهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ تُحَدِّثُنَاهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ سَمِعْتُهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ فِتْنَةً الْقَاعِدُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَائِمِ وَالْقَائِمُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمَاشِي وَالْمَاشِي فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ السَّاعِي قَالَ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَ ذَاكَ فَكُنْ عَبْدَ اللهِ الْمَقْتُولَ قَالَ أَيُّوبُ وَلَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا قَالَ وَلَا تَكُنْ عَبْدَ اللهِ الْقَاتِلَ قَالُوا أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ أَبِيكَ يُحَدِّثُهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَقَدَّمُوهُ عَلَى ضَفَّةِ النَّهَرِ فَضَرَبُوا عُنُقَهُ فَسَالَ دَمُهُ كَأَنَّهُ شِرَاكُ نَعْلٍ مَا ابْذَقَرَّ وَبَقَرُوا أُمَّ وَلَدِهِ عَمَّا فِي بَطْنِهَا  

ahmad:21065Abū al-Naḍr > Sulaymān > Ḥumayd b. Hilāl > Illā > Mā Āmdhaqar / Lam Yatafarraq > Lā Takun ʿAbdullāh al-Qātil And Kadhalik

[Machine] And he said, "Do not be the servant of Allah who kills," and likewise Bahz also said.  

أحمد:٢١٠٦٥حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ نَحْوَهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَا امْذَقَرَّ يَعْنِي لَمْ يَتَفَرَّقْ

وَقَالَ لَا تَكُنْ عَبْدَ اللهِ الْقَاتِلَ وَكَذَلِكَ قَالَ بَهْزٌ أَيْضًا  

ahmad:21066Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar > Shuʿbah > Abū Isḥāq > Ḥārithah b. Muḍarrib

[Machine] I do not know of anyone who has encountered as much adversity as I have. I never had and never will find a single dirham during the time of the Prophet ﷺ. Although I have 40,000 in the corner of my house, had the Prophet ﷺ not prohibited us from desiring death, I would have wished for it.  

أحمد:٢١٠٦٦حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ حَارِثَةَ بْنِ مُضَرِّبٍ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى خَبَّابٍ وَقَدْ اكْتَوَى فَقَالَ

مَا أَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا لَقِيَ مِنَ الْبَلَاءِ مَا لَقِيتُ لَقَدْ كُنْتُ وَمَا أَجِدُ دِرْهَمًا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَإِنَّ لِي فِي نَاحِيَةِ بَيْتِي هَذَا أَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفًا وَلَوْلَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَانَا أَوْ نَهَى أَنْ نَتَمَنَّى الْمَوْتَ لَتَمَنَّيْتُهُ  

ahmad:21067Abū Muʿāwiyah > al-Aʿmash And Ibn Numayr > al-Aʿmash > ʿUmārah > Abū Maʿmar

[Machine] I said to the storyteller, "Was the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , mentioned?"  

أحمد:٢١٠٦٧حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ قَالَ

قُلْتُ لِخَبَّابٍ هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَذَكَرَهُ  

ahmad:21068ʿAbd al-Razzāq > Sufyān > al-Aʿmash > Abū al-Ḍuḥá > Masrūq

[Machine] I said, "By Allah, I will not disbelieve in Muhammad until you die and are resurrected." He asked, "And if I am resurrected, will I have wealth and children?" I mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ , and Allah revealed, "So have you seen the one who disbelieves in Our verses and says, "I will surely be given wealth and children [in the next life]."" [Maryam 19:77] until it reached, "Then he turned away in pride." [Maryam 19:80]  

أحمد:٢١٠٦٨حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ قَالَ خَبَّابُ بْنُ الْأَرَتِّ كُنْتُ قَيْنًا بِمَكَّةَ فَكُنْتُ أَعْمَلُ لِلْعَاصِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ فَاجْتَمَعَتْ لِي عَلَيْهِ دَرَاهِمُ فَجِئْتُ أَتَقَاضَاهُ فَقَالَ لَا أَقْضِيكَ حَتَّى تَكْفُرَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ

قُلْتُ وَاللهِ لَا أَكْفُرُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ حَتَّى تَمُوتَ ثُمَّ تُبْعَثَ قَالَ فَإِذَا بُعِثْتُ كَانَ لِي مَالٌ وَوَلَدٌ؟ قَالَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ {أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي كَفَرَبِآيَاتِنَا وَقَالَ لَأُوتَيَنَّ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا} [مريم 77] حَتَّى بَلَغَ {فَرْدًا} [مريم 80]

I came to Khabbab who had been branded with seven brands(1) and he said, "Had Messenger of Allah ﷺ not forbidden us to invoke (Allah) for death, I would have invoked (Allah) for it." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6349)  

أحمد:٢١٠٦٩حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ قَالَ أَتَيْنَا خَبَّابَ بْنَ الْأَرَتِّ نَعُودُهُ وَقَدْ اكْتَوَى فِي بَطْنِهِ سَبْعًا فَقَالَ لَوْلَا

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَدْعُوَ بِالْمَوْتِ لَدَعَوْتُ بِهِ فَقَدْ طَالَ بِي مَرَضِي ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ أَصْحَابَنَا الَّذِينَ مَضَوْا لَمْ تُنْقِصْهُمُ الدُّنْيَا شَيْئًا وَإِنَّا أَصَبْنَا بَعْدَهُمْ مَا لَا نَجِدُ لَهُ مَوْضِعًا إِلَّا التُّرَابَ وَقَالَ كَانَ يَبْنِي حَائِطًا لَهُ وَإِنَّ الْمَرْءَ الْمُسْلِمَ يُؤْجَرُ فِي نَفَقَتِهِ كُلِّهَا إِلَّا فِي شَيْءٍ يَجْعَلُهُ فِي التُّرَابِقَالَ وَشَكَوْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ مُتَوَسِّدٌ بُرْدَةً لَهُ فِي ظِلِّ الْكَعْبَةِ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَا تَسْتَنْصِرُ اللهَ لَنَا؟ فَجَلَسَ مُحْمَرًّا وَجْهُهُ فَقَالَ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ كَانَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ يُؤْخَذُ فَتُجْعَلُ الْمَنَاشِيرُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ فَيُفَرَّقُ بِفِرْقَتَيْنِ مَا يَصْرِفُهُ ذَلِكَ عَنْ دِينِهِ وَلَيُتِمَّنَّ اللهُ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ حَتَّى يَسِيرَ الرَّاكِبُ مَا بَيْنَ صَنْعَاءَ وَحَضْرَمَوْتَ لَا يَخَافُ إِلَّا اللهَ وَالذِّئْبَ عَلَى غَنَمِهِ  

ahmad:21070Muḥammad b. Yazīd > Ismāʿīl Fadhakar Maʿnāh Illā

[Machine] He said, "The world does not diminish them in anything, and he combs his hair with iron combs below his bones, from flesh and nerve, and nothing turns him away from his religion."  

أحمد:٢١٠٧٠حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ إِلَّا

أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَمْ تُنْقِصْهُمُ الدُّنْيَا شَيْئًا وَيُمْشَطُ بِأَمْشَاطِ الْحَدِيدِ مَا دُونَ عَظْمِهِ مِنْ لَحْمٍ وَعَصَبٍ لَا يَصْرِفُهُ عَنْ دِينِهِ شَيْءٌ  

ahmad:21071Wakīʿ > al-Aʿmash > Abū Isḥāq > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Zayd al-Fāʾishī > b. Likhabbāb

[Machine] Khabbab went out on a military expedition, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to take care of us to the extent that he would milk a goat for us. He would milk it in a container for us, and it would fill up until it overflowed. When Khabbab came back, he milked it and the milk level went back to what it was before. So we said to Khabbab, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to milk it until it filled up our container, but when you milked it, the level decreased."  

أحمد:٢١٠٧١حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الْفَائِشِيِّ عَنْ بِنْتٍ لِخَبَّابٍ قَالَتْ

خَرَجَ خَبَّابٌ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَعَاهَدُنَا حَتَّى كَانَ يَحْلُبُ عَنْزًا لَنَا فَكَانَ يَحْلُبُهَا فِي جَفْنَةٍ لَنَا فَكَانَتْ تَمْتَلِئُ حَتَّى تَطْفَحَ قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ خَبَّابٌ حَلَبَهَا فَعَادَ حِلَابُهَا إِلَى مَا كَانَ قَالَ فَقُلْنَا لِخَبَّابٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَحْلُبُهَا حَتَّى تَمْتَلِئَ جَفْنَتُنَا فَلَمَّا حَلَبْتَهَا نَقَصَ حِلَابُهَا  

ahmad:21072Yaḥyá b. Ādam > Isrāʾīl > Abū Isḥāq > Ḥārithah b. Muḍarrib

[Machine] I entered upon Khabbab and found him afflicted with seven wounds. He said, "If it were not for the fact that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'None of you should wish for death,' I would have wished for it. By Allah! I have seen myself beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I couldn't even afford a single dirham. But now, I have forty thousand dirhams in my house." He then called for his burial shroud, and when he saw it, he wept and said, "However, Hamzah had nothing for his shroud except a madda'ah (a coarse garment) that would cover his head but fall short of his feet, and when it was put on his feet, it would fall short of his head, until it was placed upon his head, and the izhaar (a kind of shroud) was placed upon his feet."  

أحمد:٢١٠٧٢حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ حَارِثَةَ بْنِ مُضَرِّبٍ قَالَ

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى خَبَّابٍ وَقَدْ اكْتَوَى سَبْعًا فَقَالَ لَوْلَا أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَا يَتَمَنَّى أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَوْتَ لَتَمَنَّيْتُهُ وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَا أَمْلِكُ دِرْهَمًا وَإِنَّ فِي جَانِبِ بَيْتِي الْآنَ لَأَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفَ دِرْهَمٍ قَالَ ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِكَفَنِهِ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ بَكَى وَقَالَ لَكِنَّ حَمْزَةَ لَمْ يُوجَدْ لَهُ كَفَنٌ إِلَّا بُرْدَةٌ مَلْحَاءُ إِذَا جُعِلَتْ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ قَلَصَتْ عَنْ قَدَمَيْهِ وَإِذَا جُعِلَتْ عَلَى قَدَمَيْهِ قَلَصَتْ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ حَتَّى مُدَّتْعَلَى رَأْسِهِ وَجُعِلَ عَلَى قَدَمَيْهِ الْإِذْخِرُ  

ahmad:21073Yaḥyá b. Saʿīd > Ismāʿīl > Qays > Khabbāb

Khabbab said “We came to the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ while he was reclining on an outer garment in the shade of the Ka’bah. Complaining to him we said “Do you not ask Allaah for help for us? And do you not pray to Allaah for us? He sat aright turning red in his face and said “A man before you (i.e., in ancient times) was caught and a pit was dug for him in the earth and then a saw was brought placed on his head and it was broken into two pieces but that did not turn him away from his religion. They were combed in iron combs in flesh and sinews above the bones. Even that did not turn them away from their religion. I swear by Allaah, Allaah will accomplish this affair until a rider will travel between San’a and Hadramaut and he will not fear anyone except Allaah, Most High(nor will he fear the attack of) a wolf on his sheep, but you are making haste. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2649)   

أحمد:٢١٠٧٣حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا قَيْسٌ عَنْ خَبَّابٍ قَالَ

شَكَوْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَوْمَئِذٍمُتَوَسِّدٌ بُرْدَةً فِي ظِلِّ الْكَعْبَةِ فَقُلْنَا أَلَا تَسْتَنْصِرُ لَنَا اللهَ أَوَلَا تَسْتَنْصِرُ لَنَا؟ فَقَالَ قَدْ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ فِيمَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ يُؤْخَذُ فَيُحْفَرُ لَهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَيُجَاءُ بِالْمِنْشَارِ فَيُوضَعُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ فَيُجْعَلُ بِنِصْفَيْنِ فَمَا يَصُدُّهُ ذَلِكَ عَنْ دِينِهِ وَيُمَشَّطُ بِأَمْشَاطِ الْحَدِيدِ مَا دُونَ عَظْمِهِ مِنْ لَحْمٍ وَعَصَبٍ فَمَا يَصُدُّهُ ذَلِكَ وَاللهِ لَيُتِمَّنَّ اللهُ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ حَتَّى يَسِيرَ الرَّاكِبُ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ إِلَى حَضْرَمَوْتَ لَا يَخَافُ إِلَّا اللهَ وَالذِّئْبَ عَلَى غَنَمِهِ وَلَكِنَّكُمْ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ  

ahmad:21074Rawḥ > Abū Yūnus al-Qushayrī > Simāk b. Ḥarb > ʿAbdullāh b. Khabbāb b. al-Arat > Abū Khabbāb b. al-Arat

[Machine] "We used to sit at the door of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ waiting for him to come out for the Dhuhr prayer. When he came out, he said, "Listen." We said, "We have listened." Then he said, "Listen." We said, "We have listened." Then he said, "There will be leaders over you who will not be righteous, so do not support them in their injustice. Whoever supports them in their falsehood, he will not be given access to my Pond."  

أحمد:٢١٠٧٤حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يُونُسَ الْقُشَيْرِيُّ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ خَبَّابِ بْنِ الْأَرَتِّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي خَبَّابُ بْنُ الْأَرَتِّ قَالَ

إِنَّا لَقُعُودٌ عَلَى بَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ نَنْتَظِرُ أَنْ يَخْرُجَ لِصَلَاةِ الظُّهْرِ إِذْ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ اسْمَعُوا فَقُلْنَا سَمِعْنَا ثُمَّ قَالَ اسْمَعُوا فَقُلْنَا سَمِعْنَا فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ عَلَيْكُمْ أُمَرَاءُ فَلَا تُعِينُوهُمْ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ فَمَنْصَدَّقَهُمْ بِكَذِبِهِمْ فَلَنْ يَرِدَ عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ  

ahmad:21075Abū Muʿāwiyah > al-Aʿmash > Muslim > Masrūq > Khabbāb b. al-Arat

[Machine] "No, by Allah, I will not give in to you until you disbelieve in Muhammad." So I said, "By Allah, I will not disbelieve in Muhammad until you die and then are resurrected." He said, "Indeed, if I die and then am resurrected, you will come to me and I will have wealth and children, and I will give them to you." Then Allah revealed the verse {Then have you seen he who disbelieved in Our verses and said, "I will surely be given wealth and children [in the next life]."} [Maryam 77] until His saying {And he will come to Us alone} [Maryam 80].  

أحمد:٢١٠٧٥حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ خَبَّابِ بْنِ الْأَرَتِّ قَالَ كُنْتُ رَجُلًا قَيْنًا وَكَانَ لِي عَلَى الْعَاصِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ دَيْنٌ فَأَتَيْتُهُ أَتَقَاضَاهُ فَقَالَ

لَا وَاللهِ لَا أَقْضِيكَ حَتَّى تَكْفُرَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ فَقُلْتُ وَاللهِ لَا أَكْفُرُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ حَتَّى تَمُوتَ ثُمَّ تُبْعَثَ قَالَ فَإِنِّي إِذَا مُتُّ ثُمَّ بُعِثْتُ جِئْتَنِي وَلِي ثَمَّ مَالٌ وَوَلَدٌ فَأَعْطَيْتُكَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ {أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي كَفَرَ بِآيَاتِنَا وَقَالَ لَأُوتَيَنَّ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا} [مريم 77] إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {وَيَأْتِينَا فَرْدًا} [مريم 80]

[Machine] "I will not give you anything until you disbelieve in Muhammad, so I said, 'No, by Allah, I will not disbelieve in Muhammad ﷺ until I die and then be resurrected.' He laughed and said, 'I will have wealth and children, and I will give you your right.' So Allah revealed, 'Then have you seen the one who disbelieved in Our verses and said, 'I will surely be given wealth and children [in the next life].' Has he looked into the unseen, or has he taken from the Most Merciful a promise?' (Quran 19:77-78)"  

أحمد:٢١٠٧٦حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ خَبَّابٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ رَجُلًا قَيْنًا وَكَانَ لِي عَلَى الْعَاصِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ حَقٌّ فَأَتَيْتُهُ أَتَقَاضَاهُ فَقَالَ

لَا أُعْطِيكَ حَتَّى تَكْفُرَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ فَقُلْتُ لَا وَاللهِ لَا أَكْفُرُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ حَتَّى تَمُوتَ ثُمَّ تُبْعَثَ قَالَ فَضَحِكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ سَيَكُونُ لِي ثَمَّ مَالٌ وَوَلَدٌ فَأُعْطِيكَ حَقَّكَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ {أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي كَفَرَ بِآيَاتِنَا وَقَالَ لَأُوتَيَنَّ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا أَطَّلَعَ الْغَيْبَ أَمْ اتَّخَذَ عِنْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ عَهْدًا} الْآيَةَ [مريم 77 78]

"We emigrated with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, seeking the Face of Allah. So our reward is with Allah. Among us were those who died and did not consume any of the rewards (in this life), and among us were those who lived to see its fruits and tend to them. Verily, Musab bin 'Umair died without leaving anything behind but a garment. When they covered his head with it, his feet would become exposed, and when they covered his feet with it, his head will become exposed. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Cover his head and place Al-Idhkir over his feet." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3853)   

أحمد:٢١٠٧٧حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ قَالَ وَسَمِعْتُ الْأَعْمَشَ يَرْوِي عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ خَبَّابٍ قَالَ

هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَيْئًا مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ لَمْ يَتْرُكْ إِلَّا نَمِرَةً إِذَا غَطُّوا بِهَا رَأْسَهُ بَدَتْ رِجْلَاهُ وَإِذَا غَطَّيْنَا رِجْلَيْهِ بَدَا رَأْسُهُ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غَطُّوا رَأْسَهُ وَجَعَلْنَا عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ إِذْخِرًا قَالَ وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَ الثِّمَارَ فَهُوَ يَهْدِبُهَا  

ahmad:21078Abū Muʿāwiyah > al-Aʿmash > ʿUmārah b. ʿUmayr > Abū Maʿmar

We asked Khabbab: Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recit (the Quran) in the noon and afternoon prayers? He replied: Yes. We then asked: How did you know this? He said: By the shaking of his beard, may peace be upon him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 801)   

أحمد:٢١٠٧٨حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ قَالَ

قُلْنَا لِخَبَّابٍ هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقْرَأُ فِي الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَقُلْنَا فَبِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ كُنْتُمْ تَعْرِفُونَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ بِاضْطِرَابِ لِحْيَتِهِ

I came to Khabbab who had been branded with seven brands over his ʿAbdomen, and I heard him saying, "If the Prophet: had not forbidden us to invoke (Allah) for death, I would have invoked Allah for it." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6350)

أَتَيْتُ خَبَّابًا أَعُودُهُ وَقَدْ اكْتَوَى سَبْعًا فِي بَطْنِهِ وَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ لَوْلَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَدْعُوَ بِالْمَوْتِ لَدَعَوْتُ بِهِ

[Machine] An Arab Bedouin approached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was walking. The Bedouin said, "O Messenger of Allah, can we pray while riding on our camels?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "No." The Bedouin asked, "Do we perform ablution from their meat?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Yes." The Bedouin asked, "Can we pray in the sheepfolds?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ answered, "Yes." The Bedouin asked again, "Do we perform ablution from their meat?" He replied, "No."  

أحمد:٢١٠٨٠حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ النَّاقِدُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدَةَ الضَّبِّيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ يَعْنِي قَاضِي الرَّيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ ذِي الْغُرَّةِ قَالَ

عَرَضَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَسِيرُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ تُدْرِكُنَا الصَّلَاةُ وَنَحْنُ فِي أَعْطَانِ الْإِبِلِ فَنُصَلِّي فِيهَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا قَالَ أَنَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ لُحُومِهَا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ أَفَنُصَلِّي فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ قَالَ أَفَنَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ لُحُومِهَا؟ قَالَ لَا

[Machine] My father and grandfather narrated to me that they witnessed the Battle of Hunayn with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . They said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in the Dhuhr prayer, then he sat in the shade of a tree. Al-Aqra' bin Habis and 'Uyainah bin Hisn bin Badr came to him seeking retribution for the killing of their tribesman, 'Amir bin Al-Adbat, who was the leader of the tribe of Qays that day. Al-Aqra' bin Habis tried to defend Muhalim bin Jaththamah from Khandaf, so they argued before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . We heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "You are demanding fifty camels as blood money for this journey and fifty camels upon our return." 'Uyainah then said, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I will not let it go until I make his women taste the grief that he caused to my women." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Rather, you will take the blood money." 'Uyainah refused, and then a man from Layth named Mukaytil, a short man with a trimmed beard, got up and said, "O Prophet of Allah, I have not found anyone similar to this slain man, except for a sheep. Its first strike is its last, and it changes on the next day." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hand and said, "Rather, you will accept the blood money. So, the people continued (insisting) until they accepted the blood money. When they accepted the blood money, they said, "Where is your companion who seeks forgiveness for us, O Messenger of Allah?" A tall man named Adam, who had been appointed for execution, took a dagger and sat before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . When he sat, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "What is your name?" He replied, "I am Muhalim bin Jaththamah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, do not forgive Muhalim! O Allah, do not forgive Muhalim!" He repeated this three times. Then, he stood up and wiped his tears with his cloak. As for us, we say among ourselves that he sought forgiveness for him, but he made it public in order to keep people away from each other.  

أحمد:٢١٠٨١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُثْمَانَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبَانَ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ زِيَادَ بْنَ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السُّلَمِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ عُرْوَةَ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ

حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي وَجَدِّي وَكَانَا قَدْ شَهِدَا حُنَيْنًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَا صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ جَلَسَ إِلَى ظِلِّ شَجَرَةٍ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ الْأَقْرَعُ بْنُ حَابِسٍ وَعُيَيْنَةُ بْنُ حِصْنِ بْنِ بَدْرٍ يَطْلُبُ بِدَمِ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ عَامِرِ بْنِ الْأَضْبَطِ وَهُوَ يَوْمَئِذٍ سَيِّدُ قَيْسٍ وَالْأَقْرَعُ بْنُ حَابِسٍ يَدْفَعُ عَنْ مُحَلِّمِ بْنِ جَثَّامَةَ لِخِنْدِفٍ فَاخْتَصَمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَمِعْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَأْخُذُونَ الدِّيَةَ خَمْسِينَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا وَخَمْسِينَ إِذَا رَجَعْنَا قَالَ يَقُولُ عُيَيْنَةُ وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَا أَدَعُهُ حَتَّى أُذِيقَ نِسَاءَهُ مِنَ الْحُزْنِ مَا أَذَاقَ نِسَائِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَلْ تَأْخُذُونَ الدِّيَةَ فَأَبَى عُيَيْنَةُ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ لَيْثٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ مُكَيْتِلٌ رَجُلٌ قَصِيرٌ مَجْمُوعٌ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ مَا وَجَدْتُ لِهَذَا الْقَتِيلِ شَبِيهًا فِي غُرَّةِ الْإِسْلَامِإِلَّا كَغَنَمٍ وَرَدَتْ فَرُمِيَ أَوَّلُهَا فَنَفَرَ آخِرُهَا اسْنُنِ الْيَوْمَ وَغَيِّرْ غَدًا قَالَ فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ بَلْ تَقْبَلُونَ الدِّيَةَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا خَمْسِينَ وَخَمْسِينَ إِذَا رَجَعْنَا فَلَمْ يَزَلْ بِالْقَوْمِ حَتَّى قَبِلُوا الدِّيَةَ قَالَ فَلَمَّا قَبِلُوا الدِّيَةَ قَالَ قَالُوا أَيْنَ صَاحِبُكُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ؟ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ آدَمُ طَوِيلٌ ضَرْبٌ عَلَيْهِ حُلَّةً كَانَ تَهَيَّأَ لِلْقَتْلِ حَتَّى جَلَسَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا جَلَسَ قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا اسْمُكَ؟ قَالَ أَنَا مُحَلِّمُ بْنُ جَثَّامَةَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اللهُمَّ لَا تَغْفِرْ لِمُحَلِّمٍ اللهُمَّ لَا تَغْفِرْ لِمُحَلِّمٍ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَقَامَ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَهُوَ يَتَلَقَّى دَمْعَهُ بِفَضْلِ رِدَائِهِ فَأَمَّا نَحْنُ بَيْنَنَا فَنَقُولُ قَدْ اسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُ وَلَكِنَّهُ أَظْهَرَ مَا أَظْهَرَ لِيَدَعَ النَّاسُ بَعْضُهُمْ عَنْ بَعْضٍ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon and said, "Indeed, it is not permissible for a person to take anything from his brother's wealth without his consent, except with his goodwill." So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what if I come across a sheep belonging to my cousin, can I take a sheep from it?" He replied, "If you find a ewe that is carrying a blade and two bells, do not touch it." He meant by "blade and two bells" a land between Mecca and its outskirts where grazing is not allowed.  

أحمد:٢١٠٨٢حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ الْمَكِّيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ حَسَنٍ الْجَارِيِّ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ يَثْرِبِيٍّ قَالَ

خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَلَا وَلَا يَحِلُّ لِامْرِئٍ مِنْ مَالِ أَخِيهِ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا بِطِيبِ نَفْسٍ مِنْهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَقِيتُ غَنَمَ ابْنِ عَمِّي أَجْتَزِرُمِنْهَا شَاةً؟ فَقَالَ إِنْ لَقِيتَهَا نَعْجَةً تَحْمِلُ شَفْرَةً وَأَزْنَادًا بِخَبْتِ الْجَمِيشِ فَلَا تَهِجْهَا قَالَ يَعْنِي بِخَبْتِ الْجَمِيشِ أَرْضًا بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْجَارِ أَرْضٌ لَيْسَ بِهَا أَنِيسٌ

[Machine] I witnessed the sermon of the Prophet ﷺ in Mina. In his sermon, he said, "It is not permissible for a person to take anything from his brother's wealth unless his brother is satisfied with it." When I heard this, I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what if I meet my cousin's sheep and I take a sheep from them and slaughter it without their permission, would that be something wrong?" He replied, "If you saw a ewe carrying a knife and reins, do not touch it."  

أحمد:٢١٠٨٣حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ يَعْنِي الْجَارِيَّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عِمَارَةَ بْنَ حَارِثَةَ الضَّمْرِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ يَثْرِبِيٍّ الضَّمْرِيِّ قَالَ

شَهِدْتُ خُطْبَةَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِمِنًى فَكَانَ فِيمَا خَطَبَ بِهِ أَنْ قَالَ وَلَا يَحِلُّ لِامْرِئٍ مِنْ مَالِأَخِيهِ إِلَّا مَا طَابَتْ بِهِ نَفْسُهُ قَالَ فَلَمَّا سَمِعْتُ ذَلِكَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ لَقِيتُ غَنَمَ ابْنِ عَمِّي فَأَخَذْتُ مِنْهَا شَاةً فَاجْتَزَرْتُهَا عَلَيَّ فِي ذَلِكَ شَيْءٌ؟ قَالَ إِنْ لَقِيتَهَا نَعْجَةً تَحْمِلُ شَفْرَةً وَأَزْنَادًا فَلَا تَمَسَّهَا
