[Machine] My father and grandfather narrated to me that they witnessed the Battle of Hunayn with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . They said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in the Dhuhr prayer, then he sat in the shade of a tree. Al-Aqra' bin Habis and 'Uyainah bin Hisn bin Badr came to him seeking retribution for the killing of their tribesman, 'Amir bin Al-Adbat, who was the leader of the tribe of Qays that day. Al-Aqra' bin Habis tried to defend Muhalim bin Jaththamah from Khandaf, so they argued before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . We heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "You are demanding fifty camels as blood money for this journey and fifty camels upon our return." 'Uyainah then said, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I will not let it go until I make his women taste the grief that he caused to my women." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Rather, you will take the blood money." 'Uyainah refused, and then a man from Layth named Mukaytil, a short man with a trimmed beard, got up and said, "O Prophet of Allah, I have not found anyone similar to this slain man, except for a sheep. Its first strike is its last, and it changes on the next day." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hand and said, "Rather, you will accept the blood money. So, the people continued (insisting) until they accepted the blood money. When they accepted the blood money, they said, "Where is your companion who seeks forgiveness for us, O Messenger of Allah?" A tall man named Adam, who had been appointed for execution, took a dagger and sat before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . When he sat, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "What is your name?" He replied, "I am Muhalim bin Jaththamah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, do not forgive Muhalim! O Allah, do not forgive Muhalim!" He repeated this three times. Then, he stood up and wiped his tears with his cloak. As for us, we say among ourselves that he sought forgiveness for him, but he made it public in order to keep people away from each other.

On the authority of his father (Sa'd) and his grandfather (Dumayrah) (according to Musa's version) who were present in the battle of Hunayn with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: After the advent of Islam, Muhallam ibn Jaththamah al-Laythi killed a man of Ashja'. I repent to Allah, the Exalted, so ask Allah's forgiveness for me. Messenger of Allah! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said: Did you kill him with your weapon at the beginning of Islam. O Allah! do not forgive Muhallam. He said these words loudly. AbuSalamah added: He (Muhallam) then got up while he was wiping his tears with the end of his garment. Ibn Ishaq said: His people alleged that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked forgiveness for him after that. Abu Dawud said: Al-Nadr b. Shumail said: al-ghiyar means blood-wit.

And Al-Aqra bin Habis was defending Muhalim bin Jathama from being pushed out of his place in Khindif. They brought their dispute to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and we were listening. We heard Uyaynah saying, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I will not leave until I make his women taste the heat my women tasted." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Rather, you will take fifty camels as blood money for this journey of ours, and another fifty when we return." He said, "So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hand and said, 'Rather, you will take fifty camels as blood money for this journey of ours, and another fifty when we return.' They accepted the blood money and then said, 'Where is your companion who will seek forgiveness for you, O Messenger of Allah?' [Machine] That his father and grandfather witnessed the Battle of Hunayn with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . They said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led the Zuhr prayer with them and then leaned against the shade of a tree. Al-Aqra' bin Habis and 'Uyaynah bin Badr approached him and began to argue about the blood of 'Amir bin al-Adabti al-Ashja'i. He had been killed by Muhalim bin Jaththamah bin Qays, and 'Uyaynah was seeking the blood money for 'Amir bin al-Adabti because he was from the Qays tribe, while al-Aqra' was defending Muhalim bin Jaththamah because he was from the Kindah tribe, and he was the leader of the Kindah tribe at that time. We heard 'Uyaynah say: "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I will not leave him until I make his wives taste the same heat that my wives have tasted." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "You will take fifty as blood money for our travel, and fifty when we return." But they refused. Then a man from Banu Layth called Muqaytil, who was short in stature, stood up. He had prepared himself for killing. He sat in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , who asked him: "What is your name?" He said: "Muhalim bin Jaththamah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O Allah, do not forgive Muhalim bin Jaththamah, O Allah, do not forgive Muhalim bin Jaththamah, O Allah, do not forgive Muhalim bin Jaththamah." Then he said to him: "Get up." So he got up, wiping away his tears with his garment. As for us, we say among ourselves: "We hope that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has sought forgiveness for him. But he made this public in order to divert the people from each other." As for what appeared from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , this is what it means.
