"The pen has been lifted from three: From the sleeper until he wakes up, from the minor until he grows up, and from the insane until he comes back to his senses or recovers."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلاَثٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الصَّغِيرِ حَتَّى يَكْبُرَ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ أَوْ يَفِيقَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: There are three (persons) whose actions are not recorded: a sleeper till he awakes, an idiot till he is restored to reason, and a boy till he reaches puberty.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلاَثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الْمُبْتَلَى حَتَّى يَبْرَأَ وَعَنِ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَكْبَرَ

Ibn Abbas said: A lunatic woman passed by Ali ibn AbuTalib. He then mentioned the rest of the tradition to the same effect as Uthman mentioned. This version has: Do you not remember that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has said: There are three whose actions are not recorded: a lunatic whose mind is deranged till he is restored to consciousness, a sleeper till he awakes, and a boy till he reaches puberty?

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلاَثَةٍ عَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ الْمَغْلُوبِ عَلَى عَقْلِهِ حَتَّى يُفِيقَ وَعَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَحْتَلِمَ قَالَ صَدَقْتَ قَالَ فَخَلَّى عَنْهَا سَبِيلَهَا

The Prophet ﷺ said: There are three (persons) whose actions are not recorded: a sleeper till he awakes, a boy till he reaches puberty, and a lunatic till he comes to reason. Abu Dawud said: Ibn Juraij has transmitted it from Al-Qasim b. Yazid on the authority of 'Ali from the Prophet ﷺ. This version adds: "and an old man who is feeble-minded."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلاَثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَحْتَلِمَ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ

That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The pen has been lifted from three; for the sleeping person until he awakens, for the boy until he becomes a young man and for the mentally insane until he regains sanity."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلاَثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَشِبَّ وَعَنِ الْمَعْتُوهِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

the Messenger of Allah said. "The Pen has been lifted from three : from the sleeping person until he awakens, from the minor until he grows up, and from the insane person until he comes to his senses."In his narration, (one of the narrators Abu Bakr (Ibn Abu Shaibah) said: "And from the afflicted person, unit he recovers" (1)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلاَثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الصَّغِيرِ حَتَّى يَكْبَرَ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ أَوْ يُفِيقَ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ وَعَنِ الْمُبْتَلَى حَتَّى يَبْرَأَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿI have been given four thing that which was not given to any of the other Prophets.” I have been given the keys of the Earth, I have been named Ahmad, the dust has been made a means of purification for me and my ummah has been made the best of nations.ʿ

سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلاثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الصَّغِيرِ حَتَّى يَكْبَرَ وَعَنِ الْمُبْتَلَى حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ʿThe Pen has been lifted from three: from the child until he reaches puberty, from the sleeper until he wakes up and from the insane until he regains his sanity.”

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلاثَةٍ عَنِ الصَّغِيرِ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ وَعَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الْمُصَابِ حَتَّى يُكْشَفَ عَنْهُ

ʿThe Pen has been lifted from three; from the sleeper until he wakes up, from the crazy - or insane- one until he comes back to his senses, and from the minor until he grows up.”

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلاثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الْمَعْتُوهِ أَوْ قَالَ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ وَعَنِ الصَّغِيرِ حَتَّى يَشِبَّ

You do not have the right to do that. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “The Pen has been lifted from three: from the sleeper until he wakes up, from the child until he reaches adolescence, and from the insane person until he recovers, or comes to his senses.ʿ So ʿUmar ؓ pardoned her.

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلاثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الطِّفْلِ حَتَّى يَحْتَلِمَ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يَبْرَأَ أَوْ يَعْقِلَ فَأَدْرَأَ عَنْهَا عُمَرُ

ʿThe Pen has been lifted from three; from the sleeper until he wakes up, from the crazy - or insane- one until he comes back to his senses, and from the minor until he grows up.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 956)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَحْتَلِمَ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ وَقَدْ قَالَ حَمَّادٌ وَعَنِ الْمَعْتُوهِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said the pen is lifted from three: from the child until he reaches puberty, from the sleeper until he wakes up, and from the insane until he regains his sanity. Affan said the same about the insane person until he regains his sanity. Hammad also said the same about the insane person until he regains his sanity. And Ruhaan said the same about the insane person until he regains his sanity.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ عَنِ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَحْتَلِمَ وَعَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الْمَعْتُوهِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ قَالَ عَفَّانُ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ وَقَدْ قَالَ حَمَّادٌ وَعَنِ الْمَعْتُوهِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ وَقَالَ رَوْحٌ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: There are three (persons) whose actions are not recorded: a sleeper till he awakes, an idiot till he is restored to reason, and a boy till he reaches puberty. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4398)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الْمُبْتَلَى حَتَّى يَبْرَأَ وَعَنِ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ʿThe Pen has been lifted from three: from the child until he reaches puberty, from the sleeper until he wakes up and from the insane until he regains his sanity.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 940)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الْمَعْتُوهِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ وَعَنِ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَشِبَّ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "The pen has been lifted from three: the child until he reaches puberty, the insane person until he regains his sanity, and the sleeper until he wakes up."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةَ؛ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَحْتَلِمَ وَعَنِ الْمَعْتُوهِ حَتَّى يُفِيقَ وَعَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The pen is lifted from three: from the sleeper until he wakes up, from the child until he reaches puberty, and from the insane until he regains consciousness."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الْغُلَامِ حَتَّى يَحْتَلِمَ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يُفِيقَ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that the pen is lifted from three individuals: the sleeping person until they wake up, the insane person until they regain sanity, and the child until they reach understanding or reach puberty.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الْمَعْتُوهِ حَتَّى يُفِيقَ وَالصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ أَوْ يَحْتَلِمَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الصَّغِيرِ حَتَّى يَكْبِرَ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ أَوْ يُفِيقَ»

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "The pen is lifted from three: from the child until they reach the age of puberty, from the insane person until they regain sanity, and from the sleeper until they wake up." And it was narrated from Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet ﷺ .

النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ عَنِ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَحْتَلِمَ وَعَنِ الْمَعْتُوهِ حَتَّى يُفِيقَ وَعَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَرُوِّينَا عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

The Prophet ﷺ said: There are three (persons) whose actions are not recorded: a sleeper till he awakes, a boy till he reaches puberty, and a lunatic till he comes to reason. Abu Dawud said: Ibn Juraij has transmitted it from Al-Qasim b. Yazid on the authority of 'Ali from the Prophet ﷺ. This version adds: "and an old man who is feeble-minded." عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ عَنِ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَحْتَلِمَ وَعَنِ الْمَعْتُوهِ حَتَّى يُفِيقَ وَعَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ who said: "The pen has been lifted for three: the sleeper until he wakes up, the child until he reaches maturity, and the insane person until he regains sanity." This narration has been reported to us through various chains of transmission from Ali. And Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, used the hadith of Ibn Umar as evidence in regards to permission during battles, and this has already passed.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَحْتَلِمَ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ وَرُوِّينَاهُ مِنْ أَوْجُهٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ؓ وَاحْتَجَّ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ بِحَدِيثِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ فِي الْإِجَازَةِ فِي الْقِتَالِ وَقَدْ مَضَى

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "The pen is lifted from three: the sleeper until he wakes up, the insane until he regains sanity, and the child until he reaches puberty." And we have narrated in the past from Ali, from the Prophet ﷺ .

النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يَفِيقَ وَعَنِ الصَّبِيِّ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ وَرَوَيْنَا فِيمَا مَضَى عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ؓ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رفع القلم عن ثلاثة عن الصغير حتى يكبر وعن النائم حتى يستيقظ وعن المجنون حتى يفيق

"رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عن ثلاثة: عن المجنونِ المغلوب عَلَى عقْلِهِ حتى يَبْرَأَ، وَعَن النَّائِم حَتَّى يَسْتَيقِظَ، وَعن الصَّبِىِّ حَتَّى يَحْتَلِمَ".

"رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ: عَن النَّائِم حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وعَن الصَّبىِّ حَتى يَشِبِّ، وعَن الْمَعْتُوهِ حَتى يعْقِلَ".

"رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عن ثَلَاثَةِ: عن النَّائِم حتى يَسْتَيقِظَ، وَالْمَعْتُوهِ حَتَّى يُفِيقَ، وَالصَّبىِّ حَتَّى يَحْتَلِمَ".

"رُفِعَت الأَقْلامُ عن ثَلاثَة: عن الصغيرِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ, وَعن النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ، وعن الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يَعْقِلَ".
