[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The pen is lifted from three people; the sleeper until he awakens, the young child until he reaches the age of puberty, and the insane person until he regains his sanity. This hadith was narrated to us by Abu Thabyan and Abu Al-Dhuhay from Ali.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ رُفِعَ الْقَلَمُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ وَعَنِ الصَّغِيرِ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ الْحِنْثَ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّى يُفِيقَ وَرُوِّينَاهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي ظَبْيَانَ وَأَبِي الضُّحَى عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ؓ

the Messenger of Allah said. [Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ who said: "The pen has been lifted for three: the sleeper until he wakes up, the child until he reaches maturity, and the insane person until he regains sanity." This narration has been reported to us through various chains of transmission from Ali. And Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, used the hadith of Ibn Umar as evidence in regards to permission during battles, and this has already passed.
