49. Chapter
[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, indeed Abu Sufyan is a stingy man. Is it permissible for me to take something from his wealth?" He replied, "Take what is sufficient for you and your children according to what is appropriate."
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ encouraged giving charity, and a man came and said, "I have a dinar," so he said, "Spend it on yourself." He said, "I have another one," so he said, "Spend it on your child." He said, "I have another one," so he said, "Spend it on your wife." He said, "I have another one," so he said, "Spend it on your servant." He said, "I have another one," so he said, "You are the most knowledgeable of your own affairs."
A woman came to me along with her two daughters. She asked me for (charity) but she found nothing with me except one date, so I gave her that. She accepted it and then divided it between her two daughters and herself ate nothing out of that. She then got up and went out, and so did her two daughters. (In the meanwhile) Allah's Apostle ﷺ visited me and I narrated to him her story. Thereupon Allah's Apostle ﷺ said: He who is involved (in the responsibility) of (bringing up) daughters, and he accords benevolent treatment towards them, there would be protection for him against Hell-Fire. (Using translation from Muslim 2629)
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, do I have a reward for spending on the family of Abu Salamah even though I am not one of them, in this way and that way, knowing that they are only his family?" He said, "Yes, you have a reward for whatever you spend on them."
