ahmad:22617ʿAffān > Hammām > Yaḥyá b. Abū Kathīr > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Qatādah from his father

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to recite in the first two units of the Dhuhr prayer the mother of the book (Al-Fatiha) and two surahs. Sometimes, he would let us hear a verse. He would recite in the last two units of the prayer the mother of the Quran (Al-Fatiha). He would prolong the recitation in the first unit more than the second unit, and the same for the Asr prayer and the Fajr prayer. 'Affan and Abaan bin Yazid Al-Atar said the same.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ prohibited the mixture of butter and dates, and the mixture of raisins and dates, and the mixture of yogurt and dates. Abu Salamah ibn Abdur Rahman narrated to me from Abu Qatadah, who narrated from the Prophet ﷺ the same.

[Machine] "He (Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) witnessed a funeral and heard him say, 'O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, our present and our absent, our young and our old, our males and our females.' Abu Salama ibn Abd al-Rahman narrated to me that these eight words were mentioned, and two additional words were added: 'whomever you keep alive among us, let them live upon Islam, and whomever you cause to die among us, let them die upon faith.'"

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), it was narrated that a man said to him, "Have you seen fasting on the day of Arafah?" The Prophet replied, "I hope that Allah will expiate the sins of the previous year and the coming year for it." The man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what about fasting on the day of Ashura?" He replied, "I hope that Allah will expiate the sins of the previous year for it."

ahmad:22623ʿAffān > Ḥammād / Ibn Salamah > Abū Jaʿfar al-Khaṭmī > Muḥammad b. Kaʿb

[Machine] Al-Qurathi reported that Abu Qatadah had a debt from a man who used to come to him to collect it. Abu Qatadah would hide from him. One day, a young boy came out, and the man asked him about Abu Qatadah. The boy replied, "Yes, he is in the house eating pork." The man then called out to him, saying, "O so-and-so, come out, for I have been informed that you are here." Abu Qatadah went out to him, and the man asked, "What keeps you away from me?" Abu Qatadah replied, "I am in debt and have nothing to give you." The man said, "By Allah, are you in debt?" Abu Qatadah answered, "Yes." Abu Qatadah then cried and said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever relieves his debtor, or reduces his debt for him, will be in the shade of the Throne on the Day of Resurrection.'"

ahmad:22624Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar > Shuʿbah > Saʿd b. Ibrāhīm > a man

[Machine] It is said that he was a servant of Abu Qatadah, but he was not a servant who used to talk about Abu Qatadah. They asked the Prophet ﷺ about a wild donkey that Abu Qatadah had caught while he was in a state of Ihram. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Can you keep anything from it?" Shu'bah said, "I then asked him again, and he said, 'Can you keep anything from it?' He said, 'Eat it.' So I asked Shu'bah about the meaning of his statement 'There is no harm in it.' He said, 'Yes.'"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you recite behind me?" They said, "Yes." He said, "Then do not do so except with the Mother of the Book."

ahmad:22626Yazīd b. Hārūn > Yaḥyá b. Saʿīd > Saʿīd al-Maqburī > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Qatādah from his father

[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the way of Allah, patiently expecting reward, seeking His pleasure, not retreating or turning away, will Allah forgive my sins?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "If you are killed in the way of Allah, patiently expecting reward, seeking His pleasure, not retreating or turning away, Allah will forgive your sins." Then the man repeated his question, "O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the way of Allah, will Allah forgive my sins?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "If you are killed in the way of Allah, patiently expecting reward, seeking His pleasure, not retreating or turning away, Allah will forgive your sins except for the debt." This is what Jibril (Angel Gabriel) informed me.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would recite in the first two rak'ahs of the noon and afternoon prayers the opening chapter of the Book and another surah. He would sometimes recite loud enough to make audible to us the verse and would recite in the last two rak'ahs Surat al-Faitiha (only). (Using translation from Muslim 451b)

Then he said: "O Allah, Ibrahim is Your beloved, Your servant, and Your prophet. He called upon You for the people of Makkah, and I am Muhammad, Your servant, Your prophet, and Your messenger. I call upon You for the people of Madinah just as Ibrahim called upon You for the people of Makkah. We plead with You to bless their measurements, their crops, and their fruits. أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلَا يَأْكُلْ بِشِمَالِهِ وَإِذَا شَرِبَ فَلَا يَشْرَبْ بِشِمَالِهِ وَإِذَا أَخَذَ فَلَا يَأْخُذْ بِشِمَالِهِ وَإِذَا أَعْطَى فَلَا يُعْطِي بِشِمَالِهِ

[Machine] A man from among us passed away, so we went to the Prophet ﷺ to offer the prayer for him. The Prophet asked, "Did he leave anything behind?" They replied, "No, by Allah, he did not leave anything behind." The Prophet then asked, "Did he have any debts?" They replied, "Yes, he owed eighteen dirhams." The Prophet then asked, "Did he leave anything to fulfill his debts?" They replied, "No, by Allah, he did not leave anything to fulfill his debts." The Prophet said, "Then you pray for him." Abu Qatada asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what if I settle his debts, should I pray for him?" The Prophet answered, "If you settle his debts, then you may pray for him." Abu Qatada settled the man's debts and asked the Prophet, "Have I fulfilled what was upon him?" The Prophet replied, "Yes." Then he called for the man and offered the prayer for him.

[Machine] Narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite in the two Rak'ahs of Dhuhr prayer Al-Fatiha and a Surah, and he would prolong the recitation in the first two Rak'ahs. And in Asr prayer, he would do the same and would sometimes recite an Ayah out loud for us.
