12. Remaing Anṣār (2/28)
Abu Qatadah said that he accompanied the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ and he stayed behind on the way to Makkah with some of his companions who were wearing ihram, although he was not. When he saw a wild ass he mounted his horse and asked them to hand him his whip, but they refused. He then asked them to hand him his lance. When they refused, he took it, chased the while ass and killed it. Some of the Companions of the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ ate it and some refused (to eat). When they met the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ they asked him about it. He said that was the food that Allaah provided you for eating. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1852)
About the wild donkey, and it is similar to the (previous) narrated of Abu An-Nadr except that in the narration of Zaid bin Aslam he said that the Messenger of Allah said: "Do you have any of its meat left with you?" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 848)
"My father set out with the Messenger of Allah in the year of Al-Hudaybiyah, and his companions entered Ihram, but he did not. (He said:) 'While I was with my companions, some of them laughed at others. I looked and saw an onager. I stabbed it then asked them to help, but they refused to help me. We ate from its meat, and we were afraid that we would be intercepted (by the enemy) so I followed the Messenger of Allah, sometimes making my horse gallop and sometimes traveling at a regular place. I met a man from Ghifar at midnight and said: Where did you leave the Messenger of Allah? He said: I left him when he was napping in As-Suqya. I caught up with him and said: O messenger of Allah! Your Companions convey their greetings of Salam to you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. They were afraid that they may be intercepted and cut off from you, so wait for them. Then I said: O Messenger of Allah, I caught an onager and I have some of it. He said to the People: Eat, and they were I Ihram.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2824)
His father told him: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite for us in the first two rak'ahs of Zuhr prayer, and he would make us hear a verse sometimes. He would make the first rak'ah longer and the second shorter. And he used to do that in Subh too, make the first rak'ah longer and the second shorter. And he used to recite in the first two rak'ahs of 'Asr prayer, making the first rak'ah longer and the second shorter." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 976)
"Beware of swearing oaths when selling, for it may help you to make a sale but it destroys the blessing."' (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2209)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was visited by a man from the Ansar so that the Prophet may pray for him. The Prophet said, "Pray for your companion, as he has a debt." Abu Qatadah said, "I will pay it off, O Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet said, "With fulfilling it?" Abu Qatadah said, "With fulfilling it." So, the Prophet prayed for him, and his debt was only eighteen or nineteen dirhams.
[Machine] "And he (the speaker) said, 'I heard Abdullah ibn Abi Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) say...'"
[Machine] From his father Abu Qatadah, he said: "We were on a journey and I saw a wild donkey, so I rode a horse and took a spear and killed it." He (Abu Qatadah) said: "Among us was someone in the state of Ihram." He said: "So they ate from it." He said: "They felt uneasy." He said: "So I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or it was said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked: Did you signal or gesture or make any signs to them?" He (Abu Qatadah) said: "I do not know." He (the Prophet) said: "Did you signal or gesture to them or make any signs?" Then they said: "No." So he ordered them to eat from it.
[Machine] While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ leaned or leaned back on his saddle, so I supported him with my hands. He woke up and we continued on. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ leaned or leaned back on his saddle again, so I supported him with my hands and he woke up. (3 times) Abu Qatadah said, "I said, 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'May Allah bless you as you have protected us since last night.' Then he said, 'I can only see that we have lost our way, go back or lead us back to the path.' He said, 'So we turned back from the path.' I held the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ camel's reins, and each one of us held onto a part of his camel's reins. We did not wake up until the sun rose and we heard the sound of the dough being kneaded. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, have we perished? The prayer has passed us by.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'You have not perished, and the prayer has not missed you. Only the two people who were awake missed it, but the one who was sleeping did not miss it. Is there any water?' He said, 'So I brought a bucket or a basin with water and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution, then he handed it to me with some water left in it. He said, 'Keep it, for it will have some benefit.' Then he ordered Bilal to call the Adhan and he prayed two Rak'ahs, then he turned in his place and ordered him to stand and he established the dawn prayer. Then the Prophet ﷺ said, 'If the people obey Abu Bakr and Umar, they will have done well and will have found guidance. But if they oppose them, they have caused division and they both were present with the Prophet ﷺ when he died. They said to the people, 'Stay where you are until you reach the water,' and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached them at the end of the day and they were on the verge of dying of thirst. They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, have we perished?' So he called for a container and called for another container placed on top of coffee vessel and below it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dipped them in it. Then he poured water into the container and the people drank until they were satisfied. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Is there any more water?' He said, 'Then he returned the container, which still had some water in it.' He said, 'So we asked him, 'How many were you?' He said, 'There were eighty men with Abu Bakr and Umar, and we were twelve men with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .'

[Machine] We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , in a gathering when a funeral procession passed by. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "The believer gets rest and relief from the distress and hardships of this world when he is taken to the mercy of Allah." We asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what about the one who brings relief?" He said, "The sinner brings relief to the people, the lands, the trees, and the animals." Abdullah bin Masud said, "I recited this hadith to Malik," meaning this narration.
The Prophet ﷺ said: The supplier of the people is the last (man) to drink. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3725)
"When any one of you enters the Masjid, let him pray two Rak'ahs before he sits down." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 730)
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ carrying the daughter of Zainab, called Abdur Razzaq, on his shoulder. When he went into the bowing position and prostrated, he put her down, and when he stood up, he carried her again.
Kabshah, daughter of Ka'b ibn Malik and wife of Ibn AbuQatadah, reported: AbuQatadah visited (me) and I poured out water for him for ablution. A cat came and drank some of it and he tilted the vessel for it until it drank some of it. Kabshah said: He saw me looking at him; he asked me: Are you surprised, my niece? I said: Yes. He then reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: It is not unclean; it is one of those (males or females) who go round among you. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 75)

[Machine] The translation of the passage is:
"Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about his fasting, so he became angry and said, 'Omar, we have accepted Allah as our Lord, Islam as our religion, and Muhammad as our Messenger.' Then he mentioned the hadith."
I used to see (such horrible dreams) that I fell ill. I saw Abu Qatada who also said: I used to see dreams which made me sick until I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: Good dreams are from Allah, so if any one of you sees which he likes he should not disclose it to one but whom he loves, but if he sees something which he does not like he should spit on his left side thrice and seek refuge with Allah from the mischief of the Satan and its mischief (i.e. of the dream), and he should not relate it to anyone, then it would not harm him. (Using translation from Muslim 2261g)

We were sitting in the mosque when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came upon us carrying Umamah daughter of Abul'As ibn ar-Rabi'. Her mother was Zaynab daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She (Umamah) was a child and he (the Prophet) was carrying her on his shoulder. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led (the people) in prayer while she was on his shoulder. When he bowed he put her down and took her up when he got up. He kept on doing so until he finished his prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 918)
Messenger of Allah, do you think that if I am killed in the way of Allah, my sins will be blotted out from me? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Yes, in case you are killed in the way of Allah and you were patient and sincere and you always fought facing the enemy, never turming your back upon him. Then he added: What have you said (now)? (Wishing to have further assurance from him for his satisfaction), he asked (again): Do you think if I am killed in the way of Allah, all my sins will be obliterated from me? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Yes, it you were patient and sincere and always fought facing the enemy and never turning your back upon him, (all your lapses would be forgiven) except debt. Gabriel has told me this. (Using translation from Muslim 1885a)
[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ came with a funeral and performed prayer upon it. He asked, "Does he have any debt?" They replied, "Yes, two dinars." He asked, "Did he leave anything behind to pay off the debt?" They replied, "No." He said, "Then pray for your companion." Abu Qatadah said, "They are upon me, O Messenger of Allah." So the Prophet ﷺ prayed upon him.

[Machine] He heard Abu Qatadah say that the Prophet ﷺ prayed while carrying Umamah, the daughter of Zainab, the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ , who was the daughter of Abi Al-As ibn Ar-Rabiah. He would place her on his neck when he bowed and take her back when he stood up from prostration. Amar said, "I did not ask which prayer it was." Ibn Juraij said, "I was told by Zaid ibn Abi Attabi from Amr ibn Sulaim that it was the Fajr prayer." Abu Abdur Rahman Jowadah confirmed it.

[Machine] Muawiyah arrived in Medina and was received by Abu Qatadah. Abu Qatadah said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has said that you will face difficulties after me." Muawiyah asked, "What should we do then?" Abu Qatadah replied, "We have been commanded to be patient." Muawiyah said, "So be patient."

I used to see dreams (and was so much perturbed) that I began to quiver and have temperature, but did not cover myself with a mantle. I met Abu Qatada and made a mention of that to him. He said: I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: A good vision comes from Allah and a (bad) dream (hulm) from devil. So when one of you sees a bad dream (hulm) which he does not like, he should spit on his left side thrice and seek refuge with Allah from its evil; then it will not harm him. He would prolong the recitation in the first rak'ah of the noon prayer and the afternoon prayer.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Excessive sleeping is not negligence, but excessive wakefulness is."
[Machine] I entered the mosque and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting amongst the people. So, I sat down. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What prevented you from praying two units (rak'ahs) before sitting down?" I replied, "I saw you sitting, and the people were also sitting." He said, "When one of you enters the mosque, they should not sit down until they have prayed two units (rak'ahs)."

My father said, "Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whenever I stand for prayer, I want to prolong it but on hearing the cries of a child, I would shorten it as I dislike to put its mother in trouble." (Using translation from Bukhārī 868)
[Machine] I was with a group of the Prophet's companions, and they were in a state of ritual consecration except for one person. He saw some game and took a whip and struck it, causing it to fall. He ate from it and we also ate from it. Then we collected some of it and when we came to the Prophet ﷺ, we said, "O Messenger of Allah, so and so was in a state of consecration or in a state of legal purity, and he struck some game, and we ate from it and he ate from it as well." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "Eat."
[Machine] We sent the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to the coast of the sea in some of his youth, to Mecca, and we promised to meet him in Qudayd. So we went, some of us in a state of Halal (permissible) and some of us in a state of Haram (forbidden). He said, "I was in a state of Halal." Then he narrated the Hadith, saying, "This arm has been cooked, matured, and made tender." He said, "Give it to me." So I brought it to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ate it, while it was Haram, until he finished it.

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Whoever sees me in a dream, then he has truly seen me, as the Shaytan cannot take my form." Abu Salama and Abu Qatada said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever sees me has indeed seen the truth.'"
[Machine] Narrated by Nafi' al-Aqra'i, from Abu Qatada who said: "I saw two men fighting, one being a Muslim and the other being a polytheist. When one of the polytheists tried to assist his companion against the Muslim, I approached him and struck his hand, severing it. He then embraced me with his other hand, and I swear by Allah, I did not release him until I smelled the scent of death. If it were not for the blood loss, he would have killed me. He fell to the ground, and I struck him, killing him. The fight was too much for me to handle. Then a man from Makkah came by and looted him. When we finished and the war came to an end, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever kills a person, his belongings belong to him.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I killed a man who had belongings, but the fight became too much for me, and I do not know who looted him.' A man from Makkah said, 'O Messenger of Allah, he is telling the truth. I looted him, so return his belongings to him.' Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, 'He turned towards one of the lions of Allah, fighting for the sake of Allah and seeking His pleasure. He rightfully claimed the spoils of the slain enemy, so return to him what was taken from the enemy of his slain companion.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Verily, he has spoken the truth. Return to him the spoils of the slain enemy.' Abu Qatada said, 'So I took it from him and sold it, and with its price I bought a farm in Madinah. Indeed, it was the first wealth that I had ever accumulated.' "

My father said, "While we were praying with the Prophet ﷺ he heard the noise of some people. After the prayer he said, 'What is the matter?' They replied 'We were hurrying for the prayer.' He said, 'Do not make haste for the prayer, and whenever you come for the prayer, you should come with calmness, and pray whatever you get (with the people) and complete the rest which you have missed." (Using translation from Bukhārī 635)

One who is better than I informed me, that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to ʿAmmar as he was digging the ditch (on the ocassion of the Battle of the Ditch) wiping over his head: O son of Summayya, you will be involved in trouble and a group of the rebels would kill you. (Using translation from Muslim 2915a)

[Machine] We were traveling with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a night journey when we said, "O Messenger of Allah, if only you would marry us." He replied, "I fear that you will neglect the prayer. Who will wake us up for prayer?" Bilal said, "I will, O Messenger of Allah." So he married the people and we lay down. Bilal leaned against his riding animal and was overcome by sleep. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up with the rising of the sun and said, "O Bilal, where is what you promised us?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, I have never experienced sleep like that before." He ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah takes your souls when He wills and returns them to you when He wills, then He orders them to disperse for their needs and for ablution."
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ sent him ahead in a vanguard before Ghayqah and Waddan while he was in Ihram, and Abu Qatadah was not in Ihram. Suddenly, a wild donkey appeared, so he asked for a whip from them but they did not give it to him. So, some of them secretly took the whip and he seized a wild donkey and they ate it. Then they caught up with the Prophet ﷺ in Al-Abwa and said, 'We did something, and we do not know what it is.' So, he said, 'Feed us.'"
My father said. "Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'If the Iqama is pronounced then do not stand for the prayer till you see me (in front of you).' " (Using translation from Bukhārī 637)
[Machine] He killed a man from the disbelievers, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed his belongings and armor and sold them for five ounces.
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say on the pulpit to the Ansar (helpers): "Behold, the people are my garment and the Ansar are my banner. If the people took one path and the Ansar took another, I would follow the path of the Ansar. And if it were not for the migration, I would have been one of the Ansar. So whoever loves the Ansar, let him treat them kindly, and whoever dislikes them, let him overlook their faults. And whoever troubles them, then he has troubled me, and he pointed to himself."
[Machine] This is from before you, O people of Iraq. Abu Al-Khaleel reported to me from Harmalah ibn Iyas, who reported from Abu Qatada that the Prophet ﷺ said, "A statement that resembles the righteousness of it is fasting on the Day of Arafah for two years, and fasting on the Day of Ashura for one year."
