So he got up and scraped it off with his hand and said, "Whenever anyone of you stands for the prayer, he is speaking in private to his Lord or his Lord is between him and his Qibla. So, none of you should spit in the direction of the Qibla but one can spit to the left or under his foot." The Prophet ﷺ then took the corner of his sheet and spat in it and folded it and said, "Or you can do this. "

Discouraged to pray loudly and disturbing others
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did i'tikaf (performed spiritual retreat) in the masjid. He heard them reciting ˹the Quran˺ loudly. He removed the curtain and said: "Every one of you is in a private conversation with his Lord. so do not disturb each other while raising their voices in recitation" or said, "in prayer."
"When any one of you prays, let him not spit in front of him or to his right, rather let him spit to his left or beneath his feet." Then the Prophet ﷺ spat like this on his garment and rubbed it.
“The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘If anyone of you knew (how great is the sin involved) in passing in front of his brother while he is performing prayer, waiting for one hundred years would be better for him than one step that he takes.’”
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When a person prays, they are having a private conversation with their Lord, or their Lord is addressing them directly between them and the qibla (direction of prayer). So when one of you spits, let them spit to their left or under their foot, or say, 'Like this' and spit on their garment and rub it with some of it on the other."
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a small mucus in the direction of the qibla, so he took a stick or a pebble and rubbed it with it. Then he said, "When any of you stands to pray, do not spit in his direction of the qibla, for he is conversing with his Lord, exalted and glorified."
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed in the mosque and saw some traces of dung in the direction of the qibla. When he had finished his prayer, he said: "Verily, when one of you prays in the mosque, he is conversing privately with his Lord, and Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, faces him with His countenance. So no one should spit towards the qibla or to his right." Then he called for a stick and scraped it off, and then he called for a piece of cloth and wiped it.
Discouraged to pray loudly and disturbing others
That the Prophet ﷺ did iʿtikāf (performed spiritual retreat) and gave a sermon to the people, saying: "Verily, when one of you stands in prayer, he is privately conversing with his Lord, so let each one of you know what he is privately conversing with his Lord, and let no one of you make his recitation in prayer loud to one another."
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed Itikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan and had a house made of palm leaves for himself. One day, he put his head out and said, "Surely, the one who is in prayer is having a private conversation with his Lord, so let each of you take care about what he says to his Lord and not raise his voice against each other with recitation."
[AI] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "When one of you prays, let him not spit towards the qiblah (direction of prayer), for indeed, the qiblah is the direction of mercy, nor to his right, but rather to his left or beneath his left foot."
[AI] About a man named Sada'a, in a narration from Ibn 'Umar, he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed i'tikaf in the last ten days (of Ramadan). He had a small structure made of palm branches for him. One night, he put his head out and said, 'O people, when the worshipper is in prayer, he is conversing privately with his Lord, the Blessed and Most High. So let him know what he is conversing with Him about, and let no one raise his voice over another.'"
[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a stone in his hand, using it to clean his nose. He saw a person facing the Qibla while doing this and said, "When any one of you prays, he should not blow his nose with the hand he is facing, for indeed when a servant prays, he stands in private conversation with his Lord, the Elevated." Muhammad ﷺ said, "His face."
[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: When one of you stands up for prayer, let him not spit in front of him, for indeed Allah is facing him as long as he is in his place of prayer. Nor should he spit to his right, for there is an angel on his right. However, he should spit to his left or under his foot and then bury it.
[AI] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , he said, "If one of you knew his reward for walking between the hands of his brother while he is engaged in private conversation with his Lord, he would prefer to remain in that place for a hundred years rather than take a single step."
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in the Dhuhr prayer, and at the back of the rows there was a man who was praying incorrectly. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer, he called out to him, saying, "O Fulan (so-and-so), do you not fear Allah? Do you not see how you pray? Indeed, you all can see things that are hidden from me that you do. By Allah, I truly see from behind me as I see in front of me."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ retired to the mosque. He heard them (the people) reciting the Qur'an in a loud voice. He removed the curtain and said: Lo! every one of you is calling his Lord quietly. One should not trouble the other and one should not raise the voice in recitation or in prayer over the voice of the other. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1332)

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "When one of you is in prayer, he is conversing with his Lord, so none of you should spit to his right." Ibn Ja'far said, "Nor should he spit in front of him nor to his right, but rather to his left or under his feet."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When any one of you is engaged in prayer, he is holding intimate conversation with his Lord, so none of you must spit in front of him, or towards his right side, but towards his left side under his foot. (Using translation from Muslim 551)
[AI] "He saw a stain in the direction of the prayer niche in the mosque, so he poked at it until we recognized it on his face. He scratched it and said, 'When one of you stands up for prayer, they are conversing with their Lord, or their Lord is conversing with them between them and the prayer niche. Let them spit if they happen to spit to their left or under their foot.' He gestured as if it were on his garment. He said, 'We used to say to Humaid, and he would say, "Glory be to Allah, who is he referring to?" meaning the Prophet ﷺ , and he would not give us any more explanation.'"

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a phlegm in the direction of the Qibla of the mosque, so he wiped it. Then, he showed extreme discomfort on his face because of that. He said, "Indeed, when a servant stands to pray, he is conversing privately with his Lord between him and the Qibla. So, if one of you spits, let him spit to his left or under his left foot, or do like this." Then, he took a corner of his garment and spat in it, then rubbed some of it with another part.

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to the people while they were praying, and their voices were raised in recitation.
Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al Harith at-Taymi from Abu Hazim at-Tammar from al Bayadi that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to the people while they were praying and their voices were raised in the recitation. He said, "When you pray you are talking confidentially to your Lord. So look to what you confide to Him, and do not say the Qur'an out loud so that others hear it."
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the Dhuhr prayer with us, and when he finished, he called out to a man who was at the back of the rows and said, "O so-and-so, don't you fear Allah? Don't you pay attention to how you pray? Indeed, when any of you stands for prayer, he is conversing privately with his Lord, so let him pay attention to how he converses with Him. Surely, you all see me, but by Allah, I see what is behind my back just as I see what is in front of me."

[AI] "And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'When one of you stands for prayer, let him not spit in front of him, for he is conversing with his Lord as long as he is in his prayer. Nor to his right, for there is an angel to his right. Instead, let him spit to his left or under his foot and bury it."

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If one of you only knew the reward he has in walking to his brother, seeking to consult with him, while he is secluded in prayer with his Lord, he would have preferred to stand in that place for a hundred years rather than taking a single step."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When a man stands with the intention of saying prayer, or if any of you says prayer, he should not spit before him, nor at his right side; but he should do so at his left side, if there is a place for it; or he should spit under his left foot and then rub it off.
