[Machine] Narrated to us Al-Hakim Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Abdullah Al-Hafiz, dictating on the month of Rabial-Akhir in the year 401: The Book of the Histories of the ancient prophets and messengers, and mentioning their virtues and stories along with the nations, as narrated by our master, the chosen one, peace be upon him, and upon them all. Verily, the Imam Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ismail compiled it in this place from the authentic collection before the beginning of the legislation and mentioned the Companions, so I followed him. It mentions what has been narrated through authentic chains of narration regarding the mention of Adam, the father of mankind, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and his wife Hawwa when they descended to the earth, which has not been mentioned by the two Sheikhs.

24.22 [Machine] The mention of Zakariya ibn Adnan, the Prophet's (PBUH) companion
[Machine] Abdullah said, "The last of the prophets of the Children of Israel was Zachariah, son of Adnan bin Muslim, and he was from the descendants of Jacob. He said, 'My kingdom will be inherited by me, and prophethood will be inherited from the family of Jacob.'" Al-Dhahabi remained silent about this in his summary.
[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "Zakariya was a carpenter."
24.23 [Machine] The mention of Yahya ibn Zakaria, Prophet of Allah, peace be upon them both.
[Machine] "O Lord, indeed my bones have weakened and my head has turned gray with age, and I have never been deprived in my supplication to You, O Lord. And indeed, I fear my kinsmen after me, and my wife has been barren, so grant me from Yourself an heir who will inherit from me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing to You."
(And the angels called to him) while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, "Indeed, Allah gives you good tidings of John, confirming a word from Allah and [who will be] honorable, abstaining [from women], and a prophet from among the righteous." He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.'"

[Machine] "O Lord, grant me from Your presence a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication." [Quran 3:38] "Indeed, my bones have weakened, and my head has become white with age." [Quran 19:4] Then the verses continue saying, "He said, 'My Lord, how will I have a boy while my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?'" [Quran 19:9] He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.'" [Quran 19:9] He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. [Quran 19:11] "And [mention, O Muhammad], as Abraham said to his father Azar, "Take the Book with determination." And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous." [Quran 19:15] The summary does not mention the last part of the verse.

[Machine] "Zakariya and Imran both married two sisters, so Zakariya's wife was the mother of Yahya (John), and Imran's wife was the mother of Maryam (Mary). However, Imran passed away while Maryam was still in her mother's womb. People were amazed that Allah prevented Maryam from giving birth until she despaired. They belonged to a family that Allah highly regarded in a specific place." As for the mention of Al-Dhahabi not summarizing this, there is no information available for that.
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ , from Ali ibn Zaid, from Yusuf ibn Mihran, from Ibn Abbas, from the Prophet ﷺ who said, "There is no human being except that they have made a mistake or have thought about committing a sin or have committed it, except for Yahya ibn Zakariya who did not think about a sin nor commit it." The chain of narration is good.

[Machine] "Yahya, the son of Zakaria, was a noble and chaste man. He would not come near women nor desire them. He was a young man with a handsome face and appearance, his wings were delicate, his hair was short, his fingers were long, and he had a prominent nose and thick eyebrows. His voice was gentle, he worshipped Allah abundantly, and he was strong in his obedience to God."
Death of Prophet Yaḥyá (John), the son of Prophet Zakariyyah (Zachariah)
Jesus, the son of Mary, and John, the son of Zachariah, were sent with twelve thousand disciples to teach people. It is said that they prohibited the marriage of the niece of their king, ˹Herodias˺, who was fond of her and intended to marry her. She had a daily request which he fulfilled for her. When her mother learned of this, she advised her daughter ˹Herodias˺ to ask King ˹Herod˺ for a favor when she visited him. She said, "Ask him to have John, the son of Zachariah, beheaded for me." When she went in to see King ˹Herod˺, he asked her what she wanted, and she said that she wanted John, the son of Zachariah to be beheaded. However, King ˹Herod˺ asked her to request something else, but she that she did not want anything other than this.
When she persisted, the king called for John, the son of Zachariah, and ordered him to be beheaded. A drop of his blood fell on the ground, and it continued to boil until Allah sent a Nebuchadnezzar upon them. An old man from the Children of Israel guided him to that blood, and God placed in his heart the idea that they should be killed in revenge for that blood. As a result, seventy thousand of them were killed in a single day, and then the violence ceased.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I am the closest of all people to Jesus son of Mary in this world and the Hereafter. The prophets are brothers, their mothers are different but their religion is one. There is no prophet between me and Jesus son of Mary."
[Machine] "Hannah gave birth to Mary and Mary gave birth to Jesus." The golden (scholar) remained silent about it in his summary.
«حَنَّةُ وَلَدَتْ مَرْيَمَ وَمَرْيَمُ وَلَدَتْ عِيسَى» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
[Machine] "Jesus, the son of Mary, was born on the day of Ashura." Its reference is weak.
«وُلِدَ عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ» سنده واه
[Machine] Abdullah said, "Mary went out to the side of the mihrab while she was menstruating. When she became clean, she was with a man, and it was said, 'So We sent to her Our Angel and he represented himself to her as a well-proportioned man.' (Quran 19:17). And he was Gabriel, peace be upon him. So she became frightened of him and said, 'Indeed, I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you if you should be fearing of Allah.' (Quran 19:18) He said, 'I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you a pure boy.' (Quran 19:19) And the sign is that she will come wearing her veil and he will take hold of her and blow into her garment, and it will be creased. And she will conceive and bring forth a child, and she will come to her people, carrying him. They said, 'O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented. O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste.' (Quran 19:27-28) So she pointed to him. They said, 'How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?' (Quran 19:29) [Jesus] said, 'Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as I remain alive. And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant. And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive.' (Quran 19:30-33)

[Machine] The delegation from Najran came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him, "What do you say about Jesus, the son of Mary?" He replied, "He is the spirit of Allah and His word, and a servant and Messenger of Allah." They said to him, "Do you mind if we curse him as he is not in that way?" He asked them, "Is that what you prefer?" They answered, "Yes." He said, "If you wish," and then the Prophet ﷺ gathered his sons, Al-Hasan and Al-Hussein, and said to the delegation leader, "Do not curse this man. By Allah, if you do, one of the two groups (either Najran or the Muslims) will be destroyed." So Allah protected her and accepted her with an excellent acceptance and caused her to grow in a good manner. And her mother died, so her aunt took care of her and was the mother of Yahya."

They claim that Mary was pregnant with Jesus for thirteen years, and that Jesus lived until he was 32 years old and Mary lived for six years after his ascension, so her entire lifespan was 56 years. Zakariah son of Barakhya, the father of Yahya son of Zakariah, they claim him to be 200 years old and Mary's mother was pregnant with Mary. I will tell you about Adam, he was a farmer. I will tell you about Noah, he was a carpenter. I will tell you about Idris, he was a tailor. I will tell you about Dawud, he was a metalworker. I will tell you about Musa, he was a shepherd. I will tell you about Ibrahim, he was a farmer. I will tell you about Salih, he was a merchant. I will tell you about Sulaiman, Allah granted him kingship and he used to fast six days in the beginning of the month, three days in the middle of the month, and three days at the end of the month. He had nine hundred horses and three hundred mules. And I will tell you about the son of the virgin, Isa, son of Maryam, that he would not save anything for the next day and he would say, 'The One who keeps me alive until tonight will also give me food tonight, and the One who feeds me tonight will also keep me alive tomorrow.' He used to worship Allah the entire night until morning, and he used to travel during the day. He used to fast the entire year and stand in prayer the entire night. And I will tell you about the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , that he used to tend to the sheep of his family with excellence. He used to fast, so we would say he does not break his fast, and he would break his fast, so we would say he does not fast. And we have never seen him not fasting for an entire month. He used to fast three days every month. He was the gentlest among people, with the best character and the most knowledge. And I inform you about Hawwa (Eve) that she used to weave poetry and turn it around with her hand, and she used to clothe herself and her children. And Maryam, the daughter of 'Imran, used to do that as well."

[Machine] I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in the mosque, and I seized the opportunity to have a private conversation with him. He said to me, "O Abu Dharr, the mosque has a greeting." I asked him, "What is its greeting, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Two units of prayer." So, I performed the two units of prayer, then he turned towards me and I said, "O Messenger of Allah, you have commanded me to pray, so what is prayer?" He said, "It is a prescribed act of worship. Whoever wishes may perform it in lesser or greater quantity." I asked him, "O Messenger of Allah, which actions are most beloved to Allah?" He said, "Belief in Allah." Then, he mentioned the hadith until he said, "O Messenger of Allah, how many prophets are there?" He said, "One hundred and twenty-four thousand prophets." I asked, "How many of them are messengers?" He said, "Three hundred and thirteen." And he mentioned the rest of the hadith.

Umarah bin Ziyad, a man from his people, said to him, "By Allah, Khalid, you have never spoken to us except with the truth. What is your concern with the fire of discord claiming that you can extinguish it?" Khalid departed and Umarah bin Ziyad went with him, along with thirty men from his people, until they reached it. It was coming out of a split in a mountain from a region called Harrah Ashja.' Khalid drew a line for them and made them sit in it. Then he said, "If I am too slow for you, do not call me by my name." The fire came out as if they were light-colored camels following one another. Khalid faced it and struck it with his staff, saying, "Disappear, disappear, disappear, every guidance claimed by the son of Ra`iya Al-Mi'zzi." Khalid claimed that he would not leave it until the fire had gone out. He held it by his hand until he entered it with the fire. Then he slowed down with them. Umarah bin Ziyad said, "By Allah, if your leader was still alive, he would have come out to you later." They said, "Call him by his name." They said, "Indeed, he has forbidden us from calling him by his name." "Call him by his name," they said. So he came out to them, holding his head, and said, "Did I not forbid you from calling me by my name? By Allah, you killed me. Bury me. When the red camels pass by you, there will be a blind donkey. Kick it, for you will find me alive." So they buried him. When the red camels passed by them, there was a blind donkey, so they dug him up. Umarah bin Ziyad said, "Don't tell Mu'dhar that we dug up our dead. By Allah, we will never dig him up again." He informed them that his wife had two scrolls. If something difficult comes upon you, look at them, for you will find what you are asking about. He said, "No menstrual blood will touch them." When they returned to his wife, they asked her about them, and she brought them out while she was menstruating. He took whatever knowledge was in them and said, "Abu Yunus said that Samaak bin Harb was asked about him (Khalid). He said, 'That is a Prophet whom his people abandoned.'" Abu Yunus said that Samaak bin Harb said, "When the son of Khalid bin Sinan came to the Prophet, he said, 'Welcome to the son of my cousin.'" Al-Hakim narrated this.

[Machine] From the time of his birth until the time of his death, what is considered correct is what we have written in the book, not what we have based on the stories of the prophets before him, as we have not found a way to reach them except through the condition stated at the beginning of the book.

[Machine] From the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, they said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell us about yourself." He said, "The prayer of my father Ibrahim, the good news of Isa, and my mother saw when she carried me, that a light came out from her that illuminated the castles of Syria."
[Machine] I heard the Prophet (pbuh) say, "I am, among the prophets, in the highest rank in the eyes of Allah, and Adam was created while I was the final prophet. I will inform you about the interpretation of this; it is the supplication of my father Ibrahim and the good news given to the people of Jesus, and also the dream of my mother who saw that a light came out of her that illuminated the palaces of Sham." He (the listener) said, "Yes."
[Machine] We, the sons of Abd al-Muttalib, arrived in Yemen during the winter journey. We settled near a group of Jewish people who invited me, a man from the people of the Zabur, and said, "O Abd al-Muttalib, may I have permission to look at your body where there is no shame?" So, I opened one of my sleeves, and he looked at it, then he looked at the other sleeve and said, "I bear witness that in one of your hands, there is kingship, and in the other, prophethood. And I see this among the Banu Zahrah. How is that?" I replied, "I do not know." He asked, "Do you have any lineage?" I said, "What is lineage?" He said, "A wife." I said, "As for today, no." He said, "When you return, marry among them." So, Abd al-Muttalib returned to Mecca and married Hala, the daughter of Wahb bin 'Abd Manaf. She bore him Hamza and Safiyyah. Abdullah bin 'Abd al-Muttalib married Amina, the daughter of Wahb. She bore the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. Quraysh said, when Abdullah married Amina, that Abdullah resembles his father, Ya'qub, and his brother is weak.

[Machine] "Once, there was a Jewish man who lived in Makkah and engaged in trade there. On the night when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was born, he said in a gathering of Quraysh: 'O people of Quraysh, was a child born among you tonight?' They replied, 'By Allah, we do not know.' He said, 'Allah is the Greatest. If he is born to you, there is no harm. Look and remember what I am saying to you: The Prophet of this last Ummah was born this night. Between his shoulders, there is a sign that looks like parallel lines of hair, as if they are connected. It looks like a mark of a horse that does not suckle for two nights, because a jinn entered his mouth and prevented him from nursing. The people were left astounded by his words and speech. When they returned to their homes, they informed their families, saying, 'Surely Abdullah bin Abd al-Muttalib has been blessed with a boy, and they named him Muhammad.' The people gathered and said, 'Have you heard the story of the Jew? Has news of the birth of this boy reached you?' They then went to the Jew and informed him of the news. He said, 'Come with me so that I may see him.' They went with him until he entered upon Amina, and he said, 'Bring your child out to us.' She brought him out, and they uncovered his back, and he saw the mark. The Jew then fell unconscious. When he woke up, they said to him, 'What is wrong with you?' He said, 'By Allah, Prophethood has departed from the children of Israel. O people of Quraysh, you rejoice with him. By Allah, people will come from the east and the west, and his message will spread among them. On that day, there were people, including Hisham bin Al-Walid bin Al-Mughira, Musa'ab bin Abi 'Amr, 'Ubaydah bin Al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib, and 'Utba bin Rabiah, among others from the Quraysh, who were above the age of puberty."

This hadith is considered authentic according to the conditions set by both Sheikh Al-Bukhari and Sheikh Muslim. They did not include it in their collections, but instead, Muslim cited a hadith from Shu'bah, as narrated by Qatadah, with this chain of narration, stating that fasting on the day of Arafah expiates sins of the previous year and the year to come, based on the conditions set by both Al-Bukhari and Muslim."
