[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ said, "The Quraysh continued to be united until the death of Abu Talib."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَا زَالَتْ قُرَيْشٌ كَاعَّةً حَتَّى تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو طَالِبٍ»

[Machine] "The name of Al-Najashi was Masahamah in Arabic, and only Al-Najashi is the name of the king, just like Khusrow and Heraclius."

«كَانَ اسْمُ النَّجَاشِيِّ مَصْحَمَةَ وَهُوَ بِالْعَرَبِيَّةِ عَطِيَّةُ وَإِنَّمَا النَّجَاشِيُّ اسْمُ الْمَلِكِ كَقَوْلِكَ كِسْرَى وَهِرَقْلُ»

[Machine] "We sent the messenger of Allah ﷺ to Negus and we were a group of about eighty men. He mentioned the narration in its entirety as I have narrated it in the interpretation."

بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى النَّجَاشِيِّ وَنَحْنُ نَحْوٌ مِنْ ثَمَانِينَ رَجُلًا فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ كَمَا أَخْرَجْتُهُ فِي التَّفْسِيرِ

[Machine] Uthman ibn Affan and his wife Ruqayyah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , migrated from Makkah to Abyssinia and then they arrived in Makkah before migrating to Madinah. The two notable scholars, Sheikhain, agreed to narrate a hadith from Ibn Abi Shaybah and others from Az-Zuhri from Urwah from Ubaydullah ibn 'Adi from Al-Miswar ibn Makhramah about Uthman ibn Affan's journey to Abyssinia. This hadith is narrated at length, so I have summarized it in the narration of Musa ibn Uqbah from Ibn Ishaq. It is mentioned in the Maghazi (battles) that Ruqayyah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , as mentioned by them, has not been seen in the Arab world or in Abyssinia better than her. Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the summarization.

«أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ وَامْرَأَتُهُ رُقْيَةُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَرَجَا مُهَاجِرَيْنِ مِنْ مَكَّةَ إِلَى الْحَبَشَةِ الْأُولَى ثُمَّ قَدِمَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَكَّةَ ثُمَّ هَاجَرَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ» قَدِ اتَّفَقَ الشَّيْخَانِ عَلَى إِخْرَاجِ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَغَيْرِهِ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ فِي خُرُوجِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ إِلَى أَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ وَسَاقَا الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ فَلِذَلِكَ اخْتَصَرْتُ عَلَى رِوَايَةِ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ وَذَكَرَ فِي الْمَغَازِي أَنَّ رُقْيَةَ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيمَا ذَكَرُوا لَمْ يُرَ فِي الْعَرَبِ وَلَا فِي الْحَبَشِ أَحْسَنَ مِنْهَا سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

[Machine] "Abu Talib, verses by Al-Najashi, urging them to be good neighbors to each other and defend him. [Long Sea] so that the best of people know that Muhammad is a minister to Moses and Jesus, the son of Mary. He brought us a gift just like they brought him. And everyone, by the command of Allah, guides and protects. And you recite it in your book with the truth of a story, not a translation. And indeed, whenever a group comes to you with hostility, except by your favor, they are returned with generosity."

أَبُو طَالِبٍ أَبْيَاتًا لِلنَّجَاشِيِّ يَحُضُّهُمْ عَلَى حُسْنِ جِوَارِهِمْ وَالدَّفْعِ عَنْهُمْ « [البحر الطويل] لِيَعْلَمْ خِيَارُ النَّاسِ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا وَزِيرٌ لِمُوسَى وَالْمَسِيحِ ابْنِ مَرْيَمْ أَتَانَا بِهَدْيٍ مِثْلِ مَا أَتَيَا بِهِ فَكُلٌّ بِأَمْرِ اللَّهِ يَهْدِي وَيَعْصِمْ وَأَنَّكُمْ تَتْلُونَهُ فِي كِتَابِكُمْ بِصِدْقِ حَدِيثٍ لَا حَدِيثَ الْمُبَرْجِمْ وَإِنَّكَ مَا تَأْتِيكَ مِنْهَا عِصَابَةٌ بِفَضْلِكَ إِلَّا أُرْجِعُوا بِالتَّكَرُّمِ»

When I came from Ethiopia (to Medina), I was a young girl. Messenger of Allah ﷺ made me wear a sheet having marks on it. Messenger of Allah ﷺ was rubbing those marks with his hands saying, "Sanah! Sanah!" (i.e. good, good). (Using translation from Bukhārī 3874)

قَدِمْتُ مِنْ أَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ وَأَنَا جُوَيْرِيَةٌ فَكَسَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَمِيصَةً لَهَا أَعْلَامٌ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَمْسَحُ الْأَعْلَامَ بِيَدِهِ وَيَقُولُ سَنَاهْ سَنَاهْ يَعْنِي حَسَنٌ حَسَنٌ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I do not know which one I am happier with, the victory of Khaibar or the arrival of Ja'far."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَا أَدْرِي بِأَيِّهِمَا أَنَا أَفْرَحُ بِفَتْحِ خَيْبَرَ أَمْ بِقُدُومِ جَعْفَرٍ»

[Machine] "We were eleven individuals in the first al-Aqaba pledge of the upcoming year, and we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the pledge of women before he imposed war upon us."

«كُنَّا أَحَدَ عَشَرَ فِي الْعَقَبَةِ الْأُولَى مِنَ الْعَامِ الْمُقْبِلِ فَبَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْعَةَ النِّسَاءِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَفْرِضَ عَلَيْنَا الْحَرْبَ»

[Machine] Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ spent ten years following people in their homes during the season of Manazil, Muzdalifah, and 'Ukaz. He would ask, "Who will shelter me? Who will support me until I convey the messages of my Lord, and for him is Paradise?" Yet, he would find no one to support him or shelter him. And there would be a man who would leave from Egypt or Yemen to bring him back to his people, and they would warn him, "Beware of the young Quraishi boy who will tempt you." He would walk among their tents, calling them to Allah Almighty, and they would point at him with their fingers. Then Allah sent us from Yathrib (Medina), and the man from among us would meet him, believe in him, and teach him the Quran. He would then return to his people, and they would embrace Islam until there was not a single house among the houses of the Ansar without Muslims in it. We sent a message to Allah, and He allowed us to gather and meet. We said, "How long will the Messenger of Allah ﷺ be expelled in the mountains of Makkah and live in fear?" So we set out until we reached him in Muzdalifah during the pilgrimage season. We made an agreement with him at 'Aqabah, and his uncle, al-'Abbas, said to him, "O son of my brother, I do not know who these people who have come to you are. I have knowledge of the people of Yathrib, so we gathered with a man, and when al-'Abbas looked at our faces, he said, 'These are people we do not know. They are young men.' So we said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what do we pledge allegiance to you on?' He said, 'Pledge allegiance to me on hearing and obeying, in times of energy and times of laziness, on spending in times of ease and times of hardship, on commanding good and forbidding evil, and on not blaming us for what we do in the name of Allah. Pledge allegiance to me on supporting me when I come to you, and withholding from what you withhold from yourselves, your wives, and your children. And for you is Paradise.' So we pledged allegiance to him, and Sa'd bin Zurarah, the youngest among the seventy, took his hand and said, 'O people of Yathrib, none of us withholds his hand from this pledge, and we will never quit it.' So we went to him, each man one by one, and he took our pledge to grant us Paradise."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ لَبِثَ عَشْرَ سِنِينَ يَتْبَعُ النَّاسَ فِي مَنَازِلِهِمْ فِي الْمَوْسِمِ وَمَجَنَّةِ وَعُكَاظٍ وَمَنَازِلِهِمْ مِنْ مِنَىً «مَنْ يُؤْوِينِي مَنْ يَنْصُرُنِي حَتَّى أُبَلِّغَ رِسَالَاتِ رَبِّي فَلَهُ الْجَنَّةُ؟» فَلَا يَجِدُ أَحَدًا يَنْصُرُهُ وَلَا يُؤْوِيَهُ حَتَّى إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَرْحَلُ مِنْ مِصْرَ أَوْ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ إِلَى ذِي رَحِمِهِ فَيَأْتِيهِ قَوْمُهُ فَيَقُولُونَ لَهُ احْذَرْ غُلَامَ قُرَيْشٍ لَا يَفْتِنَّنَكَ وَيَمْشِي بَيْنَ رِحَالِهِمْ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ ﷻ يُشِيرُونَ إِلَيْهِ بِالْأَصَابِعِ حَتَّى بَعَثَنَا اللَّهُ مِنْ يَثْرِبَ فَيَأْتِيهِ الرَّجُلُ مِنَّا فَيُؤْمِنُ بِهِ وَيُقْرِئُهُ الْقُرْآنَ فَيَنْقَلِبُ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ فَيُسْلِمُونَ بِإِسْلَامِهِ حَتَّى لَمْ يَبْقَ دَارٌ مِنْ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ إِلَّا وَفِيهَا رَهْطٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يُظْهِرُونَ الْإِسْلَامَ وَبَعَثَنَا اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ فَائْتَمَرْنَا وَاجْتَمَعْنَا وَقُلْنَا حَتَّى مَتَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُطْرَدُ فِي جِبَالِ مَكَّةَ وَيَخَافُ فَرَحَلْنَا حَتَّى قَدِمْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْمَوْسِمِ فَوَاعَدَنَا بَيْعَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَمُّهُ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي لَا أَدْرِي مَا هَؤُلَاءِ الْقَوْمُ الَّذِينَ جَاءُوكَ إِنِّي ذُو مَعْرِفَةٍ بِأَهْلِ يَثْرِبَ فَاجْتَمَعْنَا عِنْدَهُ مِنْ رَجُلٍ وَرَجُلَيْنِ فَلَمَّا نَظَرَ الْعَبَّاسُ فِي وُجُوهِنَا قَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ قَوْمٌ لَا نَعْرِفُهُمْ هَؤُلَاءِ أَحْدَاثٌ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلَى مَا نُبَايِعُكَ؟ قَالَ «تُبَايعُونِي عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فِي النَّشَاطِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَعَلَى النَّفَقَةِ فِي الْعُسْرِ وَالْيُسْرِ وَعَلَى الْأَمْرِ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَالنَّهْيِ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ وَعَلَى أَنْ تَقُولُوا فِي اللَّهِ لَا تَأْخُذْكُمْ لَوْمَةُ لَائِمٍ وَعَلَى أَنْ تَنْصُرُونِيَ إِذَا قَدِمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَتَمْنَعُونِي مِمَّا تَمْنَعُونَ عَنْهُ أَنْفُسَكُمْ وَأَزْوَاجَكُمْ وَأَبْنَاءَكُمْ وَلَكُمُ الْجَنَّةُ» فَقُمْنَا نُبَايِعُهُ وَأَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ أَسْعَدُ بْنُ زُرَارَةَ وَهُوَ أَصْغَرُ السَّبْعِينَ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ رُوَيْدًا يَا أَهْلَ يَثْرِبَ إِنَّا لَمْ نَضْرِبْ إِلَيْهِ أَكْبَادَ الْمَطِيِّ إِلَّا وَنَحْنُ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَأَنَّ إِخْرَاجَهُ الْيَوْمَ مُفَارَقَةُ الْعَرَبِ كَافَّةً وَقَتْلُ خِيَارِكُمْ وَأَنَّ يَعَضَّكُمُ السَّيْفُ فَإِمَّا أَنْتُمْ قَوْمٌ تَصْبِرُونَ عَلَيْهَا إِذَا مَسَّتْكُمْ وَعَلَى قَتْلِ خِيَارِكُمْ وَمُفَارَقَةِ الْعَرَبِ كَافَّةً فَخُذُوهُ وَأَجْرُكُمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَإِمَّا أَنْتُمْ تَخَافُونَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ خِيفَةً فَذَرُوهُ فَهُوَ عُذْرٌ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ ﷻ فَقَالُوا يَا أَسْعَدُ أَمِطْ عَنَّا يَدَكَ فَوَاللَّهِ لَا نَذَرُ هَذِهِ الْبَيْعَةَ وَلَا نَسْتَقِيلُهَا قَالَ فَقُمْنَا إِلَيْهِ رَجُلًا رَجُلًا فَأَخَذَ عَلَيْنَا لِيُعْطِيَنَا بِذَلِكَ الْجَنَّةَ

[Machine] "Between the night of al-Aqaba and the migration of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, there were three months or close to it. The allegiance of the Ansar to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took place on the night of al-Aqaba in the month of Dhu al-Hijjah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina in the month of Rabi al-Awwal."

«كَانَ بَيْنَ لَيْلَةِ الْعَقَبَةِ وَبَيْنَ مُهَاجَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثَلَاثَةُ أَشْهُرٍ أَوْ قَرِيبًا مِنْهَا وَكَانَتْ بَيْعَةُ الْأَنْصَارِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ فِي ذِي الْحِجَّةِ وَقَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ فِي شَهْرِ رَبِيعٍ الْأَوَّلِ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to the leaders of the Ansar, "Do you shelter and prevent me?". They replied, "Yes, then what is our reward?" He said, "Paradise."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِلنُّقَبَاءِ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ «تُؤْوُونِي وَتَمْنَعُونِي؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَمَا لَنَا؟ قَالَ «الْجَنَّةُ»

[Machine] "He said: The first of those who came to us from the emigrants to Madinah were Mus'ab ibn 'Umair and Ibn Umm Maktum. They would recite the Quran to us. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived, and I had already recited Surah al-Ala and a portion of Surah al-Mufassal. Then Sa'd ibn Malik and 'Amr ibn Yasir arrived, and then 'Umar ibn al-Khattab arrived after twenty. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived, and we were overjoyed by nothing but the arrival of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The women and children started rushing, saying, 'This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .'"

أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ وَابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ فَكَانُوا يُقْرِءُونَنَا فَقَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَدْ قَرَأْتُ سِبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى وَسُوَرًا مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ ثُمَّ قَدِمَ سَعْدُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ وَعَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ ثُمَّ قَدِمَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ فِي عِشْرِينَ ثُمَّ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَمَا فَرِحْنَا بِشَيْءٍ فَرَحَنَا بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَعَلَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ يَسْعَوْنَ يَقُولُونَ هَذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ

[Machine] I asked Urwah bin Zubair: "How long did the Prophet ﷺ stay in Makkah?" He replied, "For ten years." I said, "But Ibn Abbas says that he stayed for thirteen years." He said, "Ibn Abbas took that from the saying of a poet." Sufyan bin Uyaynah said that Yahya bin Sa'id narrated, "I heard an old woman from the Ansar saying, 'I saw Ibn Abbas seeking knowledge from Surmah bin Qais and learning these verses.' 'He stayed in Quraysh for thirteen years, reminding people about the truth, but he did not find any followers or supporters. When he came to us, and the news spread about him, he became happy and content. He did not fear the darkness of any oppressor, nor did he fear any evildoers among the people. We expended our wealth and our own selves in support of him during times of strife and calamity. We opposed everyone who opposed him with the truth, even if they were our loved ones. We know that there is nothing else besides Allah, and that the Book of Allah has become a guide.'"

قُلْتُ لِعُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ كَمْ لَبِثَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِمَكَّةَ؟ قَالَ عَشْرُ سِنِينَ قُلْتُ فَإِنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ «لَبِثَ بِضْعَ عَشْرَةَ حَجَّةً» قَالَ إِنَّمَا أَخَذَهُ مِنْ قَوْلِ الشَّاعِرِ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَجُوزًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ تَقُولُ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَخْتَلِفُ إِلَى صِرْمَةِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ يَتَعَلَّمُ مِنْهُ هَذِهِ الْأَبْيَاتَ [البحر الطويل] ثَوَى فِي قُرَيْشٍ بِضْعَ عَشْرَةَ حَجَّةً يُذَكِّرُ لَوْ أَلْفَى صَدِيقًا مُوَاتِيَا وَيَعْرِضُ فِي أَهْلِ الْمَوَاسِمِ نَفْسَهُ فَلَمْ يَرَ مَنْ يُؤْوِي وَلَمْ يَرَ دَاعِيَا فَلَمَّا أَتَانَا وَاسْتَقَرَّتْ بِهِ النَّوَى وَأَصْبَحَ مَسْرُورًا بِطَيْبَةَ رَاضِيَا وَأَصْبَحَ مَا يَخْشَى ظُلَامَةَ ظَالِمٍ بَعِيدٍ وَمَا يَخْشَى مِنَ النَّاسِ بَاغِيَا بَذَلْنَا لَهُ الْأَمْوَالَ مِنْ جُلِّ مَالِنَا وَأَنْفُسَنَا عِنْدَ الْوَغَى وَالتَّأَسِّيَا نُعَادِي الَّذِي عَادَى مِنَ النَّاسِ كُلِّهِمْ بِحَقٍّ وَإِنْ كَانَ الْحَبِيبُ الْمُوَاتِيَا وَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ اللَّهَ لَا شَيْءَ غَيْرُهُ وَأَنَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ أَصْبَحَ هَادِيَا «

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ stayed in Makkah for fifteen years, seven of which he could see the light and hear the sound. He stayed in Madinah for ten years.

«أَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً بِمَكَّةَ سَبْعًا وَثَمَانِيًا يَرَى الضَّوْءَ وَيَسْمَعُ الصَّوْتَ وَأَقَامَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ عَشْرًا» على شرط مسلم
