24. Book of History of the Prophets and Messengers ؑ
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, 'I was sent to complete righteous character.'"
[Machine] About the character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , she said, "Don't you read the Quran?" He said, "Indeed, yes." She said, "Verily, the character of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ is the Quran."
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad cursed a Muslim with a curse that is mentioned neither in terms of severity nor did he ever hit anything with his hand except in the cause of Allah. He was never refused when asked for something, except if he was prevented from committing a sin. He was the furthest among people from retaliating for himself unless the sanctities of Allah were violated, then he would take revenge on behalf of Allah. He was never given a choice between two matters without choosing the easier one. When the covenant was made between him and Gabriel, he would study it with him and he was more generous in doing good than the swiftly blowing wind.
[Machine] Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is described in the Gospel as neither rude nor harsh, nor does he shout in the markets. He does not respond to evil with evil, but instead forgives and pardons.
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite a great deal of remembrance, engage little in idle talk, make the prayer long and keep the khutbah short, and he would not refrain from walking with a widow or poor person and tending to their needs." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1414)
[Machine] I heard Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to frequently remember Allah and refrain from idle talk. He would prolong his prayers and shorten his sermons. He would not hesitate to walk with a servant or a widow until he fulfilled their needs."
[Machine] "Allah revealed to Jesus ﷺ , 'O Jesus, believe in Muhammad and instruct those from your nation who will meet him to believe in him. If it were not for Muhammad, I would not have created Adam, and if it were not for Muhammad, I would not have created Paradise and Hell. Indeed, I created the Throne upon water, and it shook. So I wrote on it: There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and it became still.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When Adam committed the sin, he said, 'O Lord, I ask You by the right of Muhammad that You forgive me.' Allah said, 'O Adam, how do you know about Muhammad when I have not created him?' Adam said, 'O Lord, when You created me with Your hand and blew into me from Your soul, I raised my head and saw written on the pillars of the Throne: There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. So I knew that You did not add any name to Yours except the beloved of creation to You.' Allah said, 'You have spoken the truth, O Adam. Indeed, he (Muhammad) is the beloved of creation to Me. Invoke Me by his right, for I have forgiven you, and if it were not for Muhammad, I would not have created you.'"
"Abu Talib departed to Ash-Sham, and the Prophet ﷺ left with him, along with some older men from the Quraish. When they came across the monk they stopped there and began setting up their camp, and the monk came out to them. Before that they used to pass by him and he wouldn't come out nor pay attention to them." He said: "They were setting up their camp when the monk was walking amidst them, until he came and took the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then he said: 'This is the master of the men and jinn, this is the Messenger of the Lord of the worlds. Allah will raise him as a mercy to the men and jinn.' So some of the older people from the Quraish said: 'What do you know?' He said: 'When you people came along from the road, not a rock nor a tree was left, except that it prostrated, and they do not prostrate except for a Prophet. And I can recognize him by the seal of the Prophethood which is below his shoulder blade, like an apple.' Then he went back, and made them some food, and when he brought it to them, he [the Prophet ﷺ] was tending to the camels. So he said: 'Send for him.' So he came, and there was a cloud over him that was shading him. When he came close to the people, he found that they had beaten him to the tree's shade. So when he sat down, the shade of the tree leaned towards him. He (the monk) said: 'Look at the shade of the tree leaning towards him.'" He said: "So while he was standing over them, telling them not to take him to Rome with him - because if the Romans were to see him, they would recognize him by his description, and they would kill him - he turned, and there were seven people who had come from Rome. So he faced them and said: 'Why have you come?' They said: 'We came because this Prophet is going to appear during this month, and there isn't a road left except that people have been sent to it, and we have been informed of him, and we have been send to this road of yours.' So he said: 'Is there anyone better than you behind you?' They said: 'We only have news of him from this road of yours.' He said: 'Do you think that if there is a matter which Allah wishes to bring about, there is anyone among the people who can turn it away?' They said: 'No.'" He said: "So they gave him their pledge, and they stayed with him. And he said: 'I ask you by Allah, which of you is his guardian?' They said: 'Abu Talib.' So he kept adjuring him until Abu Talib returned him (back to Makkah) and he sent Abu Bakr and Bilal with him. And the monk gave him provisions of Ka'k (a type of bread) and olive oil." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3620)

[Machine] A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "How was the beginning of your affair, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "My foster mother was from Bani Sa'd bin Bakr, and I and her son went to graze sheep in Bahm. We did not take any provisions with us, so I told my brother, 'Go and bring us some provisions from our mother's house.' My brother set off and I stayed with the sheep. Two white birds flew towards me like eagles, and one of them said to the other, 'Is it him?' The other replied, 'Yes.' They approached me and captured me, placing me on the ground. They then split open my chest and took out my heart, removing two black clots from it. One of them said to the other, 'Weigh his share and then seal him with the seal of prophethood.' One of them said to the other, 'Put it in one scale and put a thousand from his nation in the other scale.' When I look up at the thousand above me, I fear they will overpower me.' They said, 'If his nation were to be weighed with it, it would have outweighed them.' Then they departed and left me, and I woke up in a severe state of fear. I then went to my mother and told her what I had seen. She was scared that something had happened to me, so she took a camel, placed me on its back, and mounted behind me until we reached my mother. She said, 'Have you fulfilled your trust and duty?' and I informed her about what had happened to me. This did not disturb her. She said, 'I saw a light emanating from me that illuminated the palaces of Syria.'"

[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and we stopped at a place. Suddenly, a man in the valley called out, saying: "O Allah, make me from the Ummah (nation) of Muhammad, the deceased, the forgiven, and the rewarded." I then approached the valley, and there was a man whose height was more than three hundred arms. He asked me, "Who are you?" I said, "Anas ibn Malik, servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." He asked, "Where is he?" I said, "He is over there, listening to your words." He said, "Approach him and deliver my greetings to him, and tell him that your brother Ilyas conveys the greetings to you." So, I went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. He came until he met him, embraced him, and greeted him. Then, they both sat down and started conversing. The man said to the Prophet ﷺ , "O Messenger of Allah, I only eat one day in every year, and today is my day of breaking the fast. So, I am going to eat, and you can eat with me." Then, a table from heaven descended, containing bread, fish, and celery. They both ate and fed me too. After that, we performed the Asr prayer, and then the man departed, and I saw him ascending to the sky on a cloud.

[Machine] I traveled with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and I saw something amazing from him. We came across two trees, and he said, "Go to these two trees and say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ orders you to come together." So I went and said that to them, and each one of them was uprooted from its place. Then each one of them went back to its companion, and they all reunited. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ completed his need behind them and then said, "Go and tell them to return to their places." So I went to them and said that to them, and each one of them went back to its place.

[Machine] He told him that there was a bowl with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and the people started eating from it. Whenever a group became full, they would leave their place for another group. A man said, "Is it being replenished with something?" So Samurah said, "It is only replenished from the sky."
[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a battle when the people suffered from hunger. So the people asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for permission to slaughter some of their camels, saying, "Allah will suffice us with them." When Umar ibn al-Khattab saw that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was inclined to give them permission to slaughter their camels, he said, "O Messenger of Allah, what will happen to us when we meet the enemy tomorrow while we are hungry men? But if you see, O Messenger of Allah, that you call the people to bring the remaining food that they have, so the people brought a handful of food each, and above that, the best among them brought a sa' of dates. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and prayed for whatever Allah willed him to pray for, then he called the army to bring their vessels, and ordered them to fill whatever was left of the army. So they did not leave any vessel empty, but filled it, and there was an equal amount remaining. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed until his back teeth became visible.

So, I said, 'O father of Al-Harith! I am a follower of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' He bowed his head and gestured with his shoulder, showing empathy. He continued to gesture and guide me on the path until he placed me on the road. When he placed me there, he hurried away. That made me think that he was bidding me farewell."

[Machine] We were sitting around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a Bedouin Arab, mounted on a red camel, entered. I was at the door of the mosque, so he entered and greeted, and then he sat down. After he finished his need, they said, "O Messenger of Allah, the camel underneath the Bedouin was stolen." He said, "Is there any evidence?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "O Ali, take the right of Allah from the Bedouin. If the evidence stands against him, and if not, return it to me." The Bedouin waited for a while, then the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Get up, O Bedouin, for the sake of Allah's command, or present your argument." The camel spoke from behind the door, and said, "By the One who created you with honor, O Messenger of Allah, this is the one who stole me, and no one else owned me." The Prophet ﷺ said to the Bedouin, "By the One who made her speak, O Bedouin, what did you say?" He said, "O Allah, indeed, you are not a lord we have invented, and you have no god with you who helped you in our creation, and you have no lord. So we doubt your lordship, as we say and beyond what the speakers say. I ask you to send blessings upon Muhammad and to declare my innocence." The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "By the One who sent me with honor, O Bedouin, I have seen angels rushing to record your words from the corners of the streets. So increase your prayers upon me." This hadith is narrated by trustworthy narrators, and Yahya bin Abdullah Al-Misri, I do not know him to have any credibility or criticism. This is a lie.

The Prophet ﷺ said, "What if I called this branch from this palm tree and it bore witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" The man replied, "Yes." So, the Prophet ﷺ called the branch and it descended from the palm tree until it fell to the ground. Then, it started jumping until it reached the Prophet ﷺ . The Prophet ﷺ said to the branch, "Go back." So, it returned to its place.

I invited my mother, who was a polytlieist, to Islam. I invited her one day and she said to me something about Messenger of Allah ﷺ which I hated. I came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ weeping and said: Messenger of Allah, I invited my mother to Islam but she did not accept (my invitation). I invited her today but she said to me something which I did not like. (Kindly) supplicate Allah that He may set the mother of Abu Huraira right. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O Allah, set the mother of Abu Huraira on the right path. I came out quite pleased with the supplication of Allah's Apostle ﷺ and when I came near the door it was closed from within. My mother heard the noise of my footsteps and she said: Abu Huraira, just wait. And I heard the noise of falling of water. She took a bath and put on the shirt and quickly covered her head with a headdress and opened the door and then said: Abu Huraira, I bear witness to the fact that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His bondsman and His Messenger. He (Abu Huraira) said: I went back to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and (this time) I was shedding the tears of joy. I said: Messenger of Allah, be happy, for Allah has responded to your supplication and He has set on the right path the mother of Abu Huraira. He (the Holy Prophet) praised Allah, and extolled Him and uttered good words. I said: Messenger of Allah, supplicate to Allah so that He may instill love of mine and that of my mother too in the believing servants and let our hearts be filled with their love, whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O Allah, let there be love of these servants of yours, i.e. Abu Huraira and his mother, in the hearts of the believing servants and let their hearts be filled with the love of the believing servants. (Abu Huraira said: This prayer) was so well granted by Allah that no believer was ever born who heard of me and who saw me but did not love me. (Using translation from Muslim 2491)

[Machine] It is said that a man called Jurayjara had some gold coins that belonged to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so the Prophet ﷺ asked him for them. Jurayjara said, "Oh Jew, I don't have anything to give you." The Prophet ﷺ replied, "If that's the case, then sit with me." So he sat with him. The Prophet ﷺ prayed the Duha (forenoon) prayer, Asr (afternoon) prayer, Maghrib (evening) prayer, Isha (night) prayer, Fajr (dawn) prayer, and the next day's Dhuhr (midday) prayer at that spot.
The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ threatened and warned Jurayjara, but the Prophet ﷺ was smart and asked them, "What are you doing to him?" They replied, "Oh Messenger of Allah, a Jew is holding you captive." The Prophet ﷺ said, "My Lord has forbidden me from betraying a covenant, regardless of who it is with." When the day ended, Jurayjara testified, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger." He also said, "Half of my wealth is for the sake of Allah. By Allah, I did what I did only to know about your description in the Torah, O Muhammad, son of Abdullah, born in Makkah, migrated to Taybah, and ruled in Sham. You are not ill-mannered, harsh, or rude in the markets, nor do you engage in lewd behavior or speak falsehood. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that you are the Messenger of Allah. This wealth is now yours, so judge with it as Allah has shown you."
