24. Book of History of the Prophets and Messengers ؑ
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "Joseph and his mother were given half of the beauty."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, the honorable is the son of the honorable, who is the son of the honorable, who is the son of the honorable. Yusuf (Joseph) is the son of Yaqub (Jacob), who is the son of Ishaq (Isaac), who is the son of Ibrahim (Abraham), the Prophet of Allah. He is the son of the Prophet of Allah, who is the son of the Prophet of Allah, who is the son of the Khalil (friend) of Allah."
[Machine] "Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said, 'That is Yusuf, the son of Ya'qub, the son of Ishaq, the son of Ibrahim.'"
[Machine] "The beauty was divided, so Youssef and Sara were given half, and the rest of the people were given half."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, while describing Yusuf (Joseph) when he saw him in the third heaven, "I saw a man whose image resembled that of the full moon on a moonlit night. So I asked Jibril (Gabriel), 'Who is this?' He replied, 'This is your brother Yusuf.' Ibn Ishaq said, 'Allah had granted Yusuf such beauty and dignity that no one before him or after him has been given. It is even said, and Allah knows best, that he was given half of all beauty, and the other half was divided among the people.'" (There is no mention of this narration by Al-Dhahabi in his summarization)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once encountered a Bedouin and treated him with respect. He said to him, "O Bedouin, ask for what you need." The Bedouin replied, "O Messenger of Allah, I want a female camel with her saddle, as my family relies on her for milk." The Prophet ﷺ repeated this request twice, then he said to him, "Are you unable to be like the old man of the Children of Israel?" His companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah, who is the old man of the Children of Israel?" He replied, "When Moses wanted to escort the Children of Israel, they took with them the oath that Allah had taken from them, to not leave Egypt until they took Joseph's bones with them. Moses asked them, 'Who among you knows where Joseph's grave is?' They replied, 'None of us knows except the old man of the Children of Israel.' So he sent for him and said, 'Guide me to Joseph's grave.' The old man replied, 'I will not do so unless you promise me a place in Paradise.' The Messenger of Allah disliked what she said, so it was said to him, 'Grant her her request.' He granted her request and she brought a lake and said, 'Let this water drain.' When it drained, she said, 'Dig here.' When they dug, they found the bones of Joseph, and as they brought them up from the ground, the path was lit up like daylight."
[Machine] The knowledge and wisdom of Allah were inherited by Ibrahim. At that time, Allah granted Yusuf, son of Ya’qub, dominion over the holy land. He ruled for seventy-two years. This is mentioned in His statement in His book, "My Lord, You have given me [something] of sovereignty and taught me of the interpretation of dreams." [Surah Yusuf, verse 101].
[Machine] "Between the separation of Yusuf and the grief of Yaqub, there was a period of eighty years until they reunite."
[Machine] "Indeed, Joseph was sold for twenty dirhams, and his family was in Egypt when they sent for him. At that time, they were three hundred and ninety-nine men, their men being prophets and their women being truthful. By Allah, they did not leave with Moses until they reached six hundred and seventy thousand."
[Machine] Then was born to Ya'qub (Jacob) Yusuf (Joseph), the truthful one whom Allah chose, honored, and divided for him two-thirds of beauty, and divided between his servants one-third. He resembled Adam on the day Allah created him, formed him, and blew into him from His spirit before disobedience befell him. When Adam disobeyed, the light, radiance, and beauty were removed from him. Allah had given Adam beauty, radiance, and light on the day He created him, but when he committed what he did, that was removed from him. Then Allah bestowed upon Adam one-third of beauty along with repentance, which he repented for. Then Allah gave Yusuf beauty, radiance, and light, which He removed from Adam when he sinned. That is because Allah loved to show His servants that He is capable of whatever He wills. And Allah gave Yusuf beauty and radiance that He did not give to anyone else from the people. Then Allah granted him knowledge of interpreting dreams, and he would inform of the matter he saw in his dream before it happens. Allah taught him as He taught Adam all the names. And when he smiled, you could see the light in his molars, and when he spoke, you could see the radiance of light in his speech, and it would blaze with heat between his two lips. This is a summarized version of the stories of Yusuf (Joseph), peace be upon him, based on authentic narrations. If I were to include the marvels of Wahb bin Munabbih and Abu Abdullah Al-Waqidi, the translation would be prolonged, according to the narration of Samrah from Ka'ab and the chain of narration.
