24. Book of History of the Prophets and Messengers ؑ
[Machine] "O Lord, indeed my bones have weakened and my head has turned gray with age, and I have never been deprived in my supplication to You, O Lord. And indeed, I fear my kinsmen after me, and my wife has been barren, so grant me from Yourself an heir who will inherit from me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing to You."
(And the angels called to him) while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, "Indeed, Allah gives you good tidings of John, confirming a word from Allah and [who will be] honorable, abstaining [from women], and a prophet from among the righteous." He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.'"

[Machine] "O Lord, grant me from Your presence a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication." [Quran 3:38] "Indeed, my bones have weakened, and my head has become white with age." [Quran 19:4] Then the verses continue saying, "He said, 'My Lord, how will I have a boy while my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?'" [Quran 19:9] He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.'" [Quran 19:9] He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. [Quran 19:11] "And [mention, O Muhammad], as Abraham said to his father Azar, "Take the Book with determination." And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous." [Quran 19:15] The summary does not mention the last part of the verse.
[Machine] "Zakariya and Imran both married two sisters, so Zakariya's wife was the mother of Yahya (John), and Imran's wife was the mother of Maryam (Mary). However, Imran passed away while Maryam was still in her mother's womb. People were amazed that Allah prevented Maryam from giving birth until she despaired. They belonged to a family that Allah highly regarded in a specific place." As for the mention of Al-Dhahabi not summarizing this, there is no information available for that.
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ , from Ali ibn Zaid, from Yusuf ibn Mihran, from Ibn Abbas, from the Prophet ﷺ who said, "There is no human being except that they have made a mistake or have thought about committing a sin or have committed it, except for Yahya ibn Zakariya who did not think about a sin nor commit it." The chain of narration is good.
[Machine] "Yahya, the son of Zakaria, was a noble and chaste man. He would not come near women nor desire them. He was a young man with a handsome face and appearance, his wings were delicate, his hair was short, his fingers were long, and he had a prominent nose and thick eyebrows. His voice was gentle, he worshipped Allah abundantly, and he was strong in his obedience to God."
Death of Prophet Yaḥyá (John), the son of Prophet Zakariyyah (Zachariah)
Jesus, the son of Mary, and John, the son of Zachariah, were sent with twelve thousand disciples to teach people. It is said that they prohibited the marriage of the niece of their king, ˹Herodias˺, who was fond of her and intended to marry her. She had a daily request which he fulfilled for her. When her mother learned of this, she advised her daughter ˹Herodias˺ to ask King ˹Herod˺ for a favor when she visited him. She said, "Ask him to have John, the son of Zachariah, beheaded for me." When she went in to see King ˹Herod˺, he asked her what she wanted, and she said that she wanted John, the son of Zachariah to be beheaded. However, King ˹Herod˺ asked her to request something else, but she that she did not want anything other than this.
When she persisted, the king called for John, the son of Zachariah, and ordered him to be beheaded. A drop of his blood fell on the ground, and it continued to boil until Allah sent a Nebuchadnezzar upon them. An old man from the Children of Israel guided him to that blood, and God placed in his heart the idea that they should be killed in revenge for that blood. As a result, seventy thousand of them were killed in a single day, and then the violence ceased.
