Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Shall I tell you of the best families among the Ansar?" They (the people) said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!" The Prophet ﷺ said, "The best are Banu- An-Najjar, and after them are Banu ʿAbdil Ash-hal, and after them are Banu Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj, and after them are Banu Saʿida." The Prophet ﷺ then moved his hand by closing his fingers and then opening them like one throwing something, and then said, "Anyhow, there is good in all the families of the Ansar. "

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَلاَ أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ دُورِ الأَنْصَارِ قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ بَنُو عَبْدِ الأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ ثُمَّ قَالَ بِيَدِهِ فَقَبَضَ أَصَابِعَهُ ثُمَّ بَسَطَهُنَّ كَالرَّامِي بِيَدِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ

That he heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "The best of the Ansar, or the best of the Ansar families (homes) are Banu An-Najjar, Bani ʿAbdul Ash-hal, Banu Al-Harith and Banu Sai'da."

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ خَيْرُ الأَنْصَارِ أَوْ قَالَ خَيْرُ دُورِ الأَنْصَارِ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ وَبَنُو عَبْدِ الأَشْهَلِ وَبَنُو الْحَارِثِ وَبَنُو سَاعِدَةَ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best of the Ansar's houses are those of Bani An-Najjar, then those of Bani ʿAbdul Ash-hal, then those of Bani Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj, then those of Bani Saida; but there is goodness in all the houses of the Ansar." Saʿd bin Ubada who was one of those who embraced Islam early, said, "I see that Messenger of Allah ﷺ is giving others superiority above us." Some people said to him, "But he has given you superiority above many other people."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَيْرُ دُورِ الأَنْصَارِ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ وَكَانَ ذَا قِدَمٍ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ أَرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَدْ فَضَّلَ عَلَيْنَا فَقِيلَ لَهُ قَدْ فَضَّلَكُمْ عَلَى نَاسٍ كَثِيرٍ

The worthiest clans of the Ansar are Banu Najjar, thereafter Banu al-Ashhal; thereafter Banu Harith b. Banu Khazraj; thereafter Banu Sa'idah and there is goodness in all clans of the Ansar. Sa'd said: I see that he (the Holy Prophet) has placed others above us. It was said to (him): He has placed you above many others.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَيْرُ دُورِ الأَنْصَارِ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ مَا أُرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلاَّ قَدْ فَضَّلَ عَلَيْنَا فَقِيلَ قَدْ فَضَّلَكُمْ عَلَى كَثِيرٍ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The Best houses of the Ansar are the houses of Banu An-Najjar, then the house of Banu 'Abdul-Ashhal, then Banu Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj, then Banu Sa'idah. And in all of the houses of the Ansar there is good." So Sa'd said: "I do not see except that the Prophet ﷺ has preferred everyone over us." So it was said: "He preferred you over many."

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The best of the Ansar's families (homes) are those of Banu An-Najjar and then (those of) Banu ʿAbdul Ash-hal, then (those of) Banu Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj and then (those of) Banu Saʿida; nevertheless, there is good in all the families (houses) of the Ansar." On this, Saʿd (bin Ubada) said, "I see that the Prophet ﷺ has preferred some people to us." Somebody said (to him), "No, but he has given you superiority to many." [Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Shall I not inform you about the best houses of the Ansar (the Helpers)?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "The descendants of Abdul Ashhal, who are the lineage of Sa'd bin Mu'adh." They said, "Then who, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Then the descendants of An-Najjar." They said, "Then who, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Then the descendants of Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj." They said, "Then who, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Then the descendants of Sa'ida." They said, "Then who, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Then in every house of the Ansar, there is goodness."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ بَنُو عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ وَهُمْ رَهْطُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ قَالُوا ثُمَّ مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟قَالَ ثُمَّ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ قَالُوا ثُمَّ مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ ثُمَّ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ قَالُوا ثُمَّ مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ قَالُوا ثُمَّ مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ ثُمَّ فِي كُلِّ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ

[Machine] On the occasion of the Prophet Muhammad's choosing the Ansar, he said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, saying: 'The best of the Ansar tribes are the Daws tribe, then the Banu Abd al-Ashhal tribe, then the Banu Harith bin Khazraj tribe, then the Banu Sa'idah tribe. And in every tribe of the Ansar, there is goodness.' Abu Usaid said, 'If I had to meet someone other than the truth, I would begin with the Banu Sa'idah tribe by my thigh.'"

عَنْ تَخْيِيرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْأَنْصَارَ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ خَيْرُ قَبَائِلِ الْأَنْصَارِ دُورُ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ بَنِي سَاعِدَةَ وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ قَالَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ «لَوْ كُنْتُ قَابِلًا غَيْرَ الْحَقِّ لَبَدَأْتُ بِفَخِذِي بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ»

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ «خَيْرُ قَبَائِلِ الْأَنْصَارِ دُورُ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ ثُمَّ بَنِي سَاعِدَةَ وَفِي كُلِّ الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ»

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The best family among the Ansar is the Banu An-Najjar. " (Using translation from Bukhārī 6053)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «خَيْرُ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ» فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ مَا أَرَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا قَدْ فَضَّلَ عَلَيْنَا قَالَ «قَدْ فُضِّلْتُمْ عَلَى كَثِيرٍ»

[Machine] About the preference of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ towards the Ansar (the Helpers): I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The best of the Ansar (the Helpers) are the clan of Banu Najjar, then Banu Abdul Ashhal, then Banu Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj, then Banu Sa'da, and in every group of the Ansar, there is good." Abu Usaid said, "If I were to say something other than the truth, I would have started with my own clan." And Abu Usaid was from Banu Sa'da.

عَنْ تَخْيِيرِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْأَنْصَارَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «خَيْرُ قَبَائِلِ الْأَنْصَارِ دُورُ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ بَنِي سَاعِدَةَ وَفِي كُلِّ الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ» قَالَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ لَوْ كُنْتُ قَائِلًا غَيْرَ الْحَقِّ لَبَدَأْتُ بِجَدِّي وَكَانَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ سَاعِدِيًّا

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ أَوْ بِخَيْرِ الْأَنْصَارِ؟» قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ بَنُو عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ» ثُمَّ قَالَ بِيَدِهِ فَقَبَضَ أَصَابِعَهُ ثُمَّ بَسَطَهُنَّ كَالرَّامِي بِيَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «دُورُ الْأَنْصَارِ كُلُّهَا خَيْرٌ»

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «خَيْرُ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرُ» قَالَ سَعْدٌ مَا أَرَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا قَدْ فَضَّلَ عَلَيْنَا فَقِيلَ «قَدْ فَضَّلَكُمْ عَلَى كَثِيرٍ»

That he heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "The best of the Ansar, or the best of the Ansar families (homes) are Banu An-Najjar, Bani ʿAbdul Ash-hal, Banu Al-Harith and Banu Sai'da." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3790)

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «خَيْرُ الْأَنْصَارِ أَوْ خَيْرُ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ»

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ who said, "The best Ansar (helpers) are the Banu Najjar, then the Banu Abd al-Ashhal, then the Banu Abd al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj, then the Banu Sa'ida, and all of you are the best."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «خَيْرُ الْأَنْصَارِ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ وَكُلُّكُمْ خَيْرٌ»

[Machine] I heard Abu Huraira, while he was in a great gathering of Muslims, say: Should I not inform you about the best tribe among the Ansar? They replied: Yes, please do. He said: The tribe of Bani Abdul Ashhal. They asked: Then, who, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Then, the tribe of Bani An-Najjar. They asked: Then, who, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Then, the tribe of Bani Al-Harith bin Khazraj. They asked: Then, who, O Messenger of Allah? He said: The Ansar are the best among all the tribes.

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ وَهُوَ فِي مَجْلِسٍ عَظِيمٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بَنِي عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ» قَالُوا ثُمَّ مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «ثُمَّ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ» قَالُوا ثُمَّ مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «ثُمَّ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ» قَالُوا ثُمَّ مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بَنِي سَاعِدَةَ» قَالُوا ثُمَّ مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «فِي كُلِّ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ»

"أَلا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِحيْرِ دُورِ الأَنْصَار؟ خَيْرُ دُورِ الأَنْصَار دَارُ بنى النَّجَّارِ،

ثُمَّ دَارُ بَنِى عبدِ الأَشْهَلِ، ثُمَّ دَارُ بَنِى الحَارِثِ بن الخَزْرجِ، ثُمَّ دَارُ بَنِى سَاعِدَةَ، وَفى كُلِّ دُورِ الأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ".

("خَيْرُ دُورِ الأَنْصارِ بنو النجارِ، ثم بنو عبدِ الأَشْهَلِ، ثم بنو الحارث، ثم بنو ساعدةَ، وَفِى كلِّ دُورِ الأَنصَارِ خَيْرٌ".
