Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best of the Ansar's houses are those of Bani An-Najjar, then those of Bani ʿAbdul Ash-hal, then those of Bani Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj, then those of Bani Saida; but there is goodness in all the houses of the Ansar." Saʿd bin Ubada who was one of those who embraced Islam early, said, "I see that Messenger of Allah ﷺ is giving others superiority above us." Some people said to him, "But he has given you superiority above many other people."  

البخاري:٣٨٠٧ – حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ؓ قَالَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَيْرُ دُورِ الأَنْصَارِ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ وَكَانَ ذَا قِدَمٍ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ أَرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَدْ فَضَّلَ عَلَيْنَا فَقِيلَ لَهُ قَدْ فَضَّلَكُمْ عَلَى نَاسٍ كَثِيرٍ

The worthiest clans of the Ansar are Banu Najjar, thereafter Banu al-Ashhal; thereafter Banu Harith b. Banu Khazraj; thereafter Banu Sa'idah and there is goodness in all clans of the Ansar. Sa'd said: I see that he (the Holy Prophet) has placed others above us. It was said to (him): He has placed you above many others.

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The Best houses of the Ansar are the houses of Banu An-Najjar, then the house of Banu 'Abdul-Ashhal, then Banu Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj, then Banu Sa'idah. And in all of the houses of the Ansar there is good." So Sa'd said: "I do not see except that the Prophet ﷺ has preferred everyone over us." So it was said: "He preferred you over many."

[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ , the best of the Ansar (Helpers) are the Banu Najjar, then the Banu Abd al-Ashhal, then the Banu Harith ibn Khazraj, then the Banu Sa'ida. He then said, "And in every group of the Ansar, there is goodness." Sa'd ibn Ubada said, "Make me the fourth of four and saddle my mule for me." His cousin said, "Do you intend to go back on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? It is enough for you to be the fourth of four."

[Machine] On the occasion of the Prophet Muhammad's choosing the Ansar, he said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, saying: 'The best of the Ansar tribes are the Daws tribe, then the Banu Abd al-Ashhal tribe, then the Banu Harith bin Khazraj tribe, then the Banu Sa'idah tribe. And in every tribe of the Ansar, there is goodness.' Abu Usaid said, 'If I had to meet someone other than the truth, I would begin with the Banu Sa'idah tribe by my thigh.'"  

الحاكم:٦١٩٤ – حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الْقَاضِي إِمْلَاءً ثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبُوشَنْجِيُّ ثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ غَزِيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَ أَنَّ فِتْيَةً سَأَلُوا أَبَا أُسَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيَّ

عَنْ تَخْيِيرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْأَنْصَارَ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ خَيْرُ قَبَائِلِ الْأَنْصَارِ دُورُ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ بَنِي سَاعِدَةَ وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ قَالَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ «لَوْ كُنْتُ قَابِلًا غَيْرَ الْحَقِّ لَبَدَأْتُ بِفَخِذِي بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ»

ibnhibban:7284 – al-Faḍl b. al-Ḥubāb > Musaddad b. Musarhad > Yaḥyá al-Qaṭṭān > Ḥumayd > Anas b. Mālik

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Shall I not tell you of the best tribe of the Ansar? Banun-Najjar, then Banu ʿAbdul Ashhal, then Banul-Harith bin al-Khazraj. then Banu Saʿidah.ʿ and he said: ʿIn each tribe of the Ansar there is goodness.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 392)   

ابن حبّان:٧٢٨٤ – أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانِ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The best family among the Ansar is the Banu An-Najjar. " (Using translation from Bukhārī 6053)  

الطبراني:١٦٦٩٠ – حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ التَّنُوخِيُّ ثنا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُسَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «خَيْرُ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ» فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ مَا أَرَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا قَدْ فَضَّلَ عَلَيْنَا قَالَ «قَدْ فُضِّلْتُمْ عَلَى كَثِيرٍ»

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Shall I not tell you of the best tribe of the Ansar? Banun-Najjar, then Banu ʿAbdul Ashhal, then Banul-Harith bin al-Khazraj. then Banu Saʿidah.ʿ and he said: ʿIn each tribe of the Ansar there is goodness.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 392)  

الكبرى للنسائي:٨٢٧٩ – أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ؟ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَلْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ قَالَ وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ كُلُّهَا خَيْرٌ

The worthiest clans of the Ansar are Banu Najjar, thereafter Banu al-Ashhal; thereafter Banu Harith b. Banu Khazraj; thereafter Banu Sa'idah and there is goodness in all clans of the Ansar. Sa'd said: I see that he (the Holy Prophet) has placed others above us. It was said to (him): He has placed you above many others. (Using translation from Muslim 2511a)  

الكبرى للنسائي:٨٢٨١ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُسَيْدٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «خَيْرُ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرُ» قَالَ سَعْدٌ مَا أَرَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا قَدْ فَضَّلَ عَلَيْنَا فَقِيلَ «قَدْ فَضَّلَكُمْ عَلَى كَثِيرٍ»

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ who said, "The best Ansar (helpers) are the Banu Najjar, then the Banu Abd al-Ashhal, then the Banu Abd al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj, then the Banu Sa'ida, and all of you are the best."

[Machine] He ﷺ said, "The best of the Ansar are the Banu Najjar, then the Banu 'Abd al-Ashhal, then the Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj, and the Banu Sa'idah, and in every generation of the Ansar there is goodness." It was said, "So he preferred them over us?" He said, "Yes, he preferred you over many others."  

البيهقي:١٣١٠٩ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ فُورَكٍ أنبأ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ فَارِسٍ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي أُسَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ

ﷺ قَالَ خَيْرُ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ ثُمَّ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ وَبَنُو سَاعِدَةَ وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ قَالَ فَقِيلَ فَضَّلَ عَلَيْنَا قَالَ فَقِيلَ قَدْ فَضَّلَكُمْ عَلَى كَثِيرٍ  

رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى عَنْ أَبِي دَاوُدَ وَأَخْرَجَهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ وَقَالَ ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ وَقَالَ فِيهِ فَقَالَ سَعْد ٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُبَادَةَ مَا أَرَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ إِلَّا قَدْ فَضَّلَ عَلَيْنَا فَقِيلَ قَدْ فَضَّلَكُمْ عَلَى كَثِيرٍ
