56. Those with Teknonyms Among Female Companions Whose Name is Not Known
٥٦۔ مُسْنَدُ مَنْ يُعْرَفُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ بِالْكُنَى لِمَنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ إِلَيْنَا أَسْمَاؤُهُنَّ مِمَّنْ لَهُنَّ صُحْبَةٌ
"I heard Umm Qais bint Mihsan say that she asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about menstrual blood that gets on one's clothes. He said: 'Scratch it with a stick and wash it with water and lotus leaves.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 395)
أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ دَمِ الْحَيْضَةِ يُصِيبُ الثَّوْبَ فَقَالَ «اغْسِلِيهِ بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَحُكِّيهٍ بِضِلَعٍ»
[Machine] Al-Qa'abi narrated that Sulaiman ibn Bilal narrated from Yahya ibn Sa'id from Bishr ibn Yasir that Husayn ibn Muhsin informed him that his aunt once entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day, and he asked her, "Are you married?" She answered, "Yes." He asked, "How are you to him?" She replied, "O Messenger of Allah, I do not harm him except what I am unable to do." He said, "Look at how you are to him, for he is your Paradise and your Hellfire."
ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ بُشَيْرِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ أَنَّ حُصَيْنَ بْنَ مِحْصَنٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَمَّتَهُ دَخَلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَقَالَ ذَاتُ زَوْجٍ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ كَيْفَ أَنْتِ لَهُ؟ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا آلُوَهُ إِلَّا مَا عَجَزْتُ فَقَالَ انْظُرِي كَيْفَ أَنْتِ لَهُ فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ جَنَّتُكِ وَنَارُكِ
[Machine] She came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in need, and he fulfilled her need. Then he asked, "Are you his wife?" She replied, "Yes." He said, "How are you towards him?" She said, "I only do what I am unable to do." He said, "Then look at how you are with him, for he is your paradise and your hellfire."
أَنَّهَا أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَاجَةٍ فَقَضَى لَهَا حَاجَتَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ أَذَاتُ بَعْلٍ أَنْتِ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَكَيْفَ أَنْتِ لَهُ؟ قَالَتْ مَا آلُوَهُ إِلَّا مَا عَجَزْتُ عَنْهُ قَالَ فَانْظُرِي كَيْفَ أَنْتِ لَهُ فَإِنَّهُ جَنَّتُكِ وَنَارُكِ
[Machine] She came to the Prophet ﷺ and he said, "Do you have a husband?" She said, "Yes." He said, "How are you to him?" She said, "I do not refuse him except for what I am unable to do." He said, "Know that he is your paradise and your Hellfire."
أَنَّهَا أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَمَا لَكِ بَعْلٌ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ كَيْفَ أَنْتِ لَهُ؟ قَالَتْ مَا آلُوَ إِلَّا مَا عَجَزْتُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ اعْلَمِي أَنَّهُ جَنَّتُكِ وَنَارُكِ
[Machine] Al-Qa'nabi narrated to us that Al-Hajjaj ibn Safwan narrated from Usayd ibn Abi Usayd Al-Barradi, from a woman among the women who gave allegiance (to the Prophet Muhammad), she said, "Among what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took from us was that we should not disobey him in what is known (to be good), and that we should not scratch our faces, nor spread our hair, nor tear our garments, nor curse anyone."
ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ أُسَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُسَيْدٍ الْبَرَّادِ عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنَ الْمُبَايِعَاتِ قَالَتْ كَانَ فِيمَا أَخَذَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ «لَا نَعْصِيَهُ فِي الْمَعْرُوفِ وَأَنْ لَا نَخْمِشَ وَجْهًا وَلَا نَنْشُرَ شِعْرًا وَلَا نَشُقَّ جَيْبًا وَلَا نَدْعُوَ وَيْلًا»
[Machine] We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we have roads to the mosque that are not clean, and there are cleaner roads after them, right?" We said, "Yes." He said, "So, take these roads instead."
قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ لَنَا طُرُقًا إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ مُنْتِنَةً فَقَالَ أَلَيْسَ بَعْدَهَا طُرُقٌ أَنْظَفُ مِنْهَا؟ قُلْنَا بَلَى قَالَ فَهَذِهِ بِهَذِهِ
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, we have a bad road during the rain." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Isn't there a good road besides it?" I said, "Yes." He said, "So opt for that."
قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ لَنَا طَرِيقًا خَبِيثَةً فِي الْمَطَرِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَلَيْسَ دُونَهَا طَرِيقٌ طَيِّبَةٌ؟» قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ «فَذَلِكَ بِذَلِكَ»
[Machine] Narrated by Zainab bint Nubayt bin Jabir, from her mother or her aunt, the daughters of Abi Umamah, she said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ left a will to me regarding his daughters, meaning Abu Umamah As'ad bin Zurarah. We said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recommended us with a pair of golden anklets.'"
عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ نُبَيْطِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أُمِّهَا أَوْ خَالَتِهَا بَنَاتِ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَتْ «أَوْصَى إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِبَنَاتِهِ يَعْنِي أَبَا أُمَامَةَ أَسْعَدَ بْنَ زُرَارَةَ فَقُلْنَ حَلَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ رُعَاثًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ»
she said, the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ recited the Āyah of Stoning to us: "al-shaykhu wa-al-shaykhah idhā zanayā fārjumūhumā al-battata bimā qaḍayā min al-ladhhah (The ˹married˺ man and a woman, if they commit adultery, then absolutely stone them for what they spent in ˹seeking˺ pleasure.)" لَقَدْ أَقْرَأَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ آيَةَ الرَّجْمِ «الشَّيْخُ وَالشَّيْخَةُ إِذَا زَنَيَا فَارْجُمُوهُمَا الْبَتَّةَ بِمَا قَضَيَا مِنَ اللَّذَّةِ»
That a woman of Banu Asad: One day I was with Zaynab, the wife of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and we were dyeing her clothes with red ochre. In the meantime the Messenger of Allah ﷺ peeped us. When he saw the red ochre, he returned. When Zaynab saw this, she realised that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disapproved of what she had done. She then took and washed her clothes and concealed all redness. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then returned and peeped, and when he did not see anything, he entered. «كُنْتُ يَوْمًا عِنْدَ زَيْنَبَ امْرَأَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ نَصْبُغُ ثِيَابًا بِمَغْرَةَ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ طَلَعَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا رَأَى الْمَغْرَةَ رَجَعَ فَلَمَّا رَأَتْ ذَلِكَ زَيْنَبُ عَلِمَتْ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ كَرِهَ مَا فَعَلَتْ فَأَخَذَتْ مَاءً فَغَسَلَتْ ثِيَابَهَا وَوَارَتْ كُلَّ حُمْرَةٍ ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ رَجَعَ فَاطَّلَعَ فَلَمْ يَرَ شَيْئًا فَدَخَلَ»
[Machine] I witnessed Amina when she gave birth to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . When the labor pains struck her, I looked at the stars as they leaned down until I thought they would fall upon me. But when she gave birth to him, a light came out of her that illuminated the house we were in and the entire neighborhood. I couldn't see anything except light.
«شَهِدْتُ آمِنَةَ لَمَّا وَلَدَتْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا ضَرَبَهَا الْمَخَاضُ نَظَرْتُ إِلَى النُّجُومِ تَدَلَّى حَتَّى إِنِّي لَأَقُولُ لَتَقَعَنَّ عَلَيَّ فَلَمَّا وَلَدَتْهُ خَرَجَ مِنْهَا نُورٌ أَضَاءَ لَهُ الْبَيْتُ الَّذِي نَحْنُ فِيهِ وَالدَّارُ فَمَا شَيْءٌ أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ إِلَّا نُورٌ»
[Machine] About an orphaned woman who was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Thaqeef, she narrated to Safiyyah bint Abi Ubayd that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever among you is able to die in Medina, let him die there, for indeed, whoever dies there, I will be a witness or an intercessor for him on the Day of Judgment."
عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ يَتِيمَةٍ كَانَتْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ ثَقِيفَ أَنَّهَا حَدَّثَتْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَمُوتَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَلْيَمُتْ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ مَاتَ بِهَا كُنْتُ لَهُ شَهِيدًا أَوْ شَفِيعًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ»
[Machine] When Muhammad ibn Talhah was born, I presented him to the Prophet ﷺ , and he asked, "What is his name?" We said, "Muhammad." He said, "This is my name, and his kunya is Abu al-Qasim."
لَمَّا وُلِدَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ أَتَيْتُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا سَمُّوهُ؟ قُلْنَا مُحَمَّدٌ قَالَ هَذَا اسْمِي وَكُنْيَتُهُ أَبوِ الْقَاسِمُ
