51. Companionship of Women (7/8)
A’ishah reported The Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying When a woman gives (some of the property) from her husband’s house, not wasting it, she will have her reward for what she has spent, and her husband will have his for what he earned. The said applies to a trustee. In no respect does the one diminish the reward of the other. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1685)
"When a woman spends" and my father said: - "When a woman feeds (the poor) from her husband's house, without spending too much, she will have her reward, and he will be rewarded likewise because he earned it , and she will be rewarded for what she spent. The same applies to the storekeeper, without anything being detracted from their rewards.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2294)
[Machine] The translation of the given passage in English would be: "Any woman who donates a part of her household belongings, her reward is doubled between them."
51.89 [Machine] The virtue of a woman's spending over her husband, and mentioning the differences concerning Sulaiman in the narration of Zainab in it.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon to us, the women, and said, "Give charity, even if it is from your adornments, for indeed, you are the majority of the inhabitants of Hellfire on the Day of Judgment." Abdullah was a man with limited means, so I asked him, "Ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ if I can use my obligatory charity for the maintenance of my husband and orphans under my care." She mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ had a certain dignity, so he said, "No, but ask him yourself." So, I went and reached the door, and there was a woman from the Ansar named Zainab. She said, "Her need is my need." Bilal came out to us, and we said to him, "Ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ if we can use our obligatory charity for the maintenance of our husbands and orphans under our care." Zainab on the door said to Bilal, "Which Zainab?" He replied, "Zainab, the wife of Abdullah," and "Zainab, a woman from the Ansar," who are both asking you about using their obligatory charity for the maintenance of their husbands and orphans under their care. The Prophet ﷺ said, "They will have two rewards, the reward of kinship and the reward of charity."

"The Messenger of Allah said to women: 'Give charity, even from women: 'Give charity, even from your jewelry. 'Abdullah was not a wealthy man and she said to him: 'Can I spend my charity on you and on my brother's children who are orphans? 'Abdullah said: 'Ask the Messenger of Allah about that.' She said: So I went to the Messenger of Allah, and at his door I found a woman from among the Ansar who was also called Zainab, and she was asking about the same matter as I was. Bilal came out to us and we said to him: Go to the Messenger of Allah and ask him about that, but do not tell him who we are. He went to the Messenger of Allah and he said:' Who are they?' He said: Zainab.' He said: 'Which Zainab?" He said: 'Zainab Al-Ansariyyah.' Abdullah and Zainab Al-Ansariyyah.' He said: 'Yes, they will have two rewards, the reward for upholding the ties of kinship and the reward dfor giving charity."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2583)
Zainab, the wife of ʿAbdullah said, "I was in the Mosque and saw the Prophet ﷺ saying, 'O women ! Give alms even from your ornaments.' " Zainab used to provide for ʿAbdullah and those orphans who were under her protection. So she said to ʿAbdullah, "Will you ask Messenger of Allah ﷺ whether it will be sufficient for me to spend part of the Zakat on you and the orphans who are under my protection?" He replied "Will you yourself ask Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" (Zainab added): So I went to the Prophet and I saw there an Ansari woman who was standing at the door (of the Prophet ﷺ ) with a similar problem as mine. Bilal passed by us and we asked him, 'Ask the Prophet ﷺ whether it is permissible for me to spend (the Zakat) on my husband and the orphans under my protection.' And we requested Bilal not to inform the Prophet ﷺ about us. So Bilal went inside and asked the Prophet ﷺ regarding our problem. The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Who are those two?" Bilal replied that she was Zainab. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Which Zainab?" Bilal said, "The wife of ʿAbdullah (bin Masʿud)." The Prophet said, "Yes, (it is sufficient for her) and she will receive a double rewards (for that): One for helping relatives, and the other for giving Zakat." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1466)

[Machine] A woman from Abdullah's household and a woman from Abu Mas'ud's household went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, each keeping her own matter secret. They came to the room and said to Bilal, "Tell the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that two women have come, one of them has wealth and has orphans under her care in her room, and the other has wealth and a weak husband with paralyzed hands." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Both of them have guardians."

51.90 [Machine] The reward of spending on the wife.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whatever you feed yourself is a charity for you, whatever you feed your spouse is a charity for you, whatever you feed your child is a charity for you, and whatever you feed your servant is a charity for you."
When a Muslim spends on his family seeking reward for it from Allah, it counts for him as sadaqa. (Using translation from Muslim 1002a)

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You will be rewarded for whatever you spend for Allah's sake even if it were a morsel which you put in your wife's mouth." (Using translation from Bukhārī 56)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, whatever you spend of expenses, it is considered a charity until even the morsel you raise to your wife's mouth."
51.92 [Machine] If a man cannot find what he spends on his wife, should he let his wife choose?
Abu Bakr (Allah be pleased with him) came and sought permission to see Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He found people sitting at his door and none amongst them had been granted permission, but it was granted to Abu Bakr and he went in. Then came 'Umar and he sought permission and it was granted to him, and he found Allah's Apostle ﷺ sitting sad and silent with his wives around him. He (Hadrat 'Umar) said: I would say something which would make the Prophet ﷺ laugh, so he said: Messenger of Allah, I wish you had seen (the treatment meted out to) the daughter ofKhadija when you asked me some money, and I got up and slapped her on her neck. Messenger of Allah (mav peace be upon him) laughed and said: They are around me as you see, asking for extra money. Abu Bakr (Allah be pleased with him) then got up went to 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) and slapped her on the neck, and 'Umar stood up before Hafsa and slapped her saying: You ask Messenger of Allah ﷺ which he does not possess. They said: By Allah, we do not ask Messenger of Allah ﷺ for anything he does not possess. Then he withdrew from them for a month or for twenty-nine days. Then this verse was revealed to him:" Prophet: Say to thy wives... for a mighty reward" (xxxiii. 28). He then went first to 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) and said: I want to propound something to you, 'A'isha, but wish no hasty reply before you consult your parents. She said: Messenger of Allah, what is that? He (the Holy Prophet) recited to her the verse, whereupon she said: Is it about you that I should consult my parents, Messenger of Allah? Nay, I choose Allah, His Messenger, and the Last Abode; but I ask you not to tell any of your wives what I have said He replied: Not one of them will ask me without my informing her. God did not send me to be harsh, or cause harm, but He has sent me to teach and make things easy. (Using translation from Muslim 1478)

Zaid asked Abu Hurairah, "Who are those who depend on you, O Abu Hurairah?" Abu Hurairah replied, "Your wife says, 'Spend on me or divorce me,' and your servant says, 'Feed me and employ me,' and your son says, 'To whom will you leave me?'"
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "The best charity is that given when one is still prosperous, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand. 51.93 [Machine] The issue of a woman divorcing her sister
Abu Hurairah reported the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ as saying “A woman should not ask for the divorce of her sister to make her bowl vacant for her and to marry him. She will have what is decreed for her.” (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2176)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Do not ask a woman for the divorce of another in order to get what is in her possession."

Behold, no person should spend the night with a married woman, but only in case he is married to her or he is her Mahram. (Using translation from Muslim 2171)

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of entering upon the ladies." A man from the Ansar said, "Allah's Apostle! What about Al-Hamu the in-laws of the wife (the brothers of her husband or his nephews etc.)?" The Prophet ﷺ replied: The in-laws of the wife are death itself. (Using translation from Bukhārī 5232)

Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood on the pulpit and said: After this day no man should enter the house of another person in his absence, but only when he is accompanied by one person or two persons. [Machine] Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood in a similar position to mine and said, "Treat my Companions well, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. Then lies will spread, to the extent that a man will swear an oath before he is asked to do so, and he will give testimony before being asked to do so. So whoever among you desires to attain the delights of Paradise, then let him adhere to the group. Indeed, Shaytan is with the individual, and he is further from two. And let no man be alone with a woman, for indeed, the third of them is Shaytan. And whoever among you is pleased with his good deeds and displeased with his evil deeds, then he is a believer." 9176 Ishaaq ibn Ibrahim informed us, narrating from Wahb ibn Jarir ibn Hazim, who said: My father informed me, saying: I heard Abd al-Malik ibn Umayr narrating from Jabir ibn Samurah, who said: Umar addressed us at Al-Jabiyyah and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us and mentioned a similar story to the one of Jarir's narrations.

[Machine] I have never seen anyone among the people who resembles the speech of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , nor a conversation nor a sitting with Fatimah. She said, "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw her, he would greet her and then go to her and kiss her, then he would take her hand and bring her until he made her sit in his place. And whenever she saw the Prophet ﷺ she would greet him, then she would go to him and kiss him. Indeed, she entered upon the Prophet ﷺ in his illness in which he passed away, so he greeted her, kissed her, and then whispered to her and she cried. Then he whispered to her again and she laughed. So I said to the women, I only used to see that she had a virtue over the women, but here she is, among the women, crying when suddenly she laughs. So I asked her what did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to you? She said, "At that moment, I was a seed." When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, I asked her, and she said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'My appointed time has come and I am dying, so I cried.' Then he said, 'You are the first of my family to join me, so I felt happy and I laughed.'"

51.108 [Machine] The shaking hands of Dhul-Muharram
[Machine] I have never seen a woman who resembled the Messenger of Allah ﷺ more in her words and actions than Fatimah. Whenever she entered his house, he would take her hand, kiss her, and seat her in his gathering. And when he would enter upon her, she would stand up to greet him, kiss him, and take his hand. I entered upon him during his final illness in which he passed away, and he whispered something to her, causing her to cry. Then he whispered something else to her, and she laughed. So I said to her, "I thought that this woman had more virtue over women, but now I see that she cries when she is supposed to, and she laughs when she is supposed to." So I asked her about it, and she said, "In that case, I am like a seed." When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, I asked her about it, and she said, "He whispered to me and informed me that he was going to die, so I cried. Then he whispered to me and told me that I will be the first of his family to join him, so I laughed."

51.110 [Machine] The gaze of women towards the blind
to Ibn Shihab, that Umm Salamah narrated to him, that she and Maimunah were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, she said: "So when we were with him, Ibn Umm Maktum came, and he entered upon him, and that was after veiling had been ordered for us. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Veil yourselves from him.' So I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Is he not blind such that he can not see us or recognize us?' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Are you two blind such that you can not see him?'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2778)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me and Maimuna while we were sitting. He sat down and then Ibn Umm Maktum, who was blind, came and asked permission to enter. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Cover yourselves from him." We said, "O Messenger of Allah, isn't he blind and cannot see us?" He replied, "Are you both not able to see him?"

There is no maintenance allowance for you, and you better go to the house of Ibn Umm Maktum and live with him for he is a blind man and you can put off your clothes in his house (i. e. you shall not face much difficulty in observing purdah there). (Using translation from Muslim 1480c)

My husband Abu 'Amr b. Hafs b. al-Mughira sent 'Ayyish b. Abu Rabi'a to me with a divorce, and he also sent through him five si's of dates and five si's of barley. I said: Is there no maintenance allowance for me but only this, and I cannot even spend my 'Idda period in your house? He said: No. She said: I dressed myself and came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: How many pronouncements of divorce have been made for you? I said: Three. He said what he ('Ayyish b. Abu Rabi'a) had stated was true. There is no maintenance allowance for you. Spend 'Idda period in the house of your cousin, Ibn Umm Maktum. He is blind and you can put off your garment in his presence. And when you have spent your Idda period, you inform me. She said: Mu'awiya and Abu'l-Jahm (Allah be pleased with them) were among those who had given me the proposal of marriage. Thereupon Allah's Apostle ﷺ said: Mu'awiya is destitute and in poor condition and Abu'l-Jahm is very harsh with women (or he beats women, or like that), you should take Usama b. Zaid (as your husband). (Using translation from Muslim 1480q)

that while the Prophet ﷺ was with her, there was an effeminate man in the house. The effeminate man said to Um Salama's brother, ʿAbdullah bin Abi Umaiyya, "If Allah should make you conquer Ta'if tomorrow, I recommend that you take the daughter of Ghailan (in marriage) for (she is so fat) that she shows four folds of flesh when facing you and eight when she turns her back."
