The Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed the noon and afternoon prayers together, and the sunset and Isha' prayers together without being in a state of fear or in a state of journey.

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ وَالْعَصْرَ جَمِيعًا وَالْمَغْرِبَ وَالْعِشَاءَ جَمِيعًا فِي غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلاَ سَفَرٍ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed the noon and afternoon prayers together in Medina without being in a state of fear or in a state of journey. (Abu Zubair said: I asked Sa'id [one of the narrators] why he did that. He said: I asked Ibn 'Abbas as you have asked me, and he replied that he [the Holy Prophet] wanted that no one among his Ummah should be put to [unnecessary] hardship.)

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ وَالْعَصْرَ جَمِيعًا بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلاَ سَفَرٍ قَالَ أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ فَسَأَلْتُ سَعِيدًا لِمَ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ كَمَا سَأَلْتَنِي فَقَالَ أَرَادَ أَنْ لاَ يُحْرِجَ أَحَدًا مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ

What prompted him to do this? He said: He wanted that his Ummah should not be put to (unnecessary) hardship.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الصَّلاَةِ فِي سَفْرَةٍ سَافَرَهَا فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ فَجَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ قَالَ سَعِيدٌ فَقُلْتُ لاِبْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَا حَمَلَهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ قَالَ أَرَادَ أَنْ لاَ يُحْرِجَ أُمَّتَهُ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ combined in the expedition to Tabuk the noon prayer with the afternoon prayer and the sunset prayer with the 'Isha' prayer. He (one of the narrators) said: What prompted him to do that? He (Mu'adh) replied that he (the Holy Prophet) wanted that his Ummah should not be put to (unnecessary) hardship.

جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَبَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ مَا حَمَلَهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَرَادَ أَنْ لاَ يُحْرِجَ أُمَّتَهُ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ combined the noon and afternoon prayers, and the sunset and night prayers at Medina without any danger and rain. He was asked: What did he intend by it ? He replied: He intended that his community might not fall into hardship.

جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ مِنْ غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلاَ مَطَرٍ فَقِيلَ لاِبْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَا أَرَادَ إِلَى ذَلِكَ قَالَ أَرَادَ أَنْ لاَ يُحْرِجَ أُمَّتَهُ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ combined Ẓuhr and ʿAsr ˹prayers˺ and the Maghrib and Isha ˹prayers˺ in Madinah without being in a state of fear, nor due to rain. It was asked of Ibn ʿAbbās: What did he intend by that?. He said: He wanted that his Ummah does not experience any hardship.

جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَبَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ مِنْ غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلاَ مَطَرٍ۔ قَالَ: فَقِيلَ لاِبْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَا أَرَادَ بِذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ: أَرَادَ أَنْ لاَ يُحْرِجَ أُمَّتَهُ۔

"Why?" He said: "So that there would not be any hardship on his Ummah."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي بِالْمَدِينَةِ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ الصَّلاَتَيْنِ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ مِنْ غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلاَ مَطَرٍ قِيلَ لَهُ لِمَ قَالَ لِئَلاَّ يَكُونَ عَلَى أُمَّتِهِ حَرَجٌ

It was narrated from Mu’adh bin Jabal that the Prophet ﷺ combined the Zuhr and ‘Asr, and the Maghrib and ‘Isha’ when traveling during the campaign of Tabuk.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ فِي السَّفَرِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to combine the prayers during travel, for Maghrib and Isha, and also Dhuhr and Asr.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ الصَّلاتَيْنِ فِي السَّفَرِ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ وَالظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allahﷺ gathered between Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha prayers without there being rain or travel. They asked, "O Abu Abbas, what was his intention for doing that?" He said, "To make it easier for his ummah."

جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ فِي غَيْرِ مَطَرٍ وَلَا سَفَرٍ قَالُوا يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ مَا أَرَادَ بِذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ التَّوَسُّعَ عَلَى أُمَّتِهِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ combined the noon and afternoon prayers, and the sunset and night prayers at Medina without any danger and rain. He was asked: What did he intend by it ? He replied: He intended that his community might not fall into hardship. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1211)

جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ مِنْ غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلَا مَطَرٍ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ لِمَ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ كَيْ لَا يُحْرِجَ أُمَّتَهُ

[AI] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ combined the Dhuhr and Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers while traveling and while residing.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ فِي السَّفَرِ وَالْحَضَرِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to combine Dhuhr (afternoon prayer) with Asr (late afternoon prayer), and Maghrib (evening prayer) with Isha (night prayer) during travel.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ فِي السَّفَرِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went on a journey, which was the expedition of Tabuk. He combined the prayers of Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha. I asked, "What made him do that?" He said, "He wanted to make it easier for his ummah."

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفْرَةٍ سَافَرَهَا وَذَلِكَ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ فَجَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ قُلْتُ مَا حَمَلَهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ أَرَادَ أَنْ لَا تُحْرَجَ أُمَّتُهُ

It was narrated from Mu’adh bin Jabal that the Prophet ﷺ combined the Zuhr and ‘Asr, and the Maghrib and ‘Isha’ when traveling during the campaign of Tabuk. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1070)

«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ فِي السَّفَرِ»

[AI] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered in a meal that he undertook during a battle between Dhuhr and Asr and Maghrib and Isha. So I asked him, what led him to do that? He said, he intended not to burden his nation."

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَمَعَ فِي سَفْرَةٍ سَافَرَهَا وَذَلِكَ فِي غَزْوَةٍ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ» فَقُلْتُ لَهُ فَمَا حَمَلَهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ أَرَادَ أَنْ لَا يُحْرِجَ أُمَّتَهُ

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Zuhr and 'Asr together, and Maghrib and 'Isha' together, when there was no fear and he was not traveling." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 601)

«صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ وَالْعَصْرَ جَمِيعًا وَالْمَغْرِبَ وَالْعِشَاءَ جَمِيعًا فِي غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلَا سَفَرٍ»

قَالَ جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْمَدِينَةِ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ فِي غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ ولاَ مَطَرٍ قُلْتُ لابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ لأَيِّ شَيْءٍ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ لِكَيْ لا يُحْرِجَ أُمَّتَهُ

قَالَ جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ وهُو مُقِيمٌ بِالْمَدِينَةِ مِنْ غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ لِكَيْ لا يُحْرِجَ أُمَّتَهُ

[AI] Al-Qa'nabi narrated both from Dawud bin Qays, who narrated from Salih, the freed slave of At-Taw'amah, that he heard Ibn Abbas saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ combined Dhuhr and Asr, and Maghrib and Isha in Al-Madinah without any fear or rain. I said to Ibn Abbas, "Why did he do that?" He said, "He wanted to make it easier for his ummah."

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ كِلَاهُمَا عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ صَالِحٍ مَوْلَى التَّوْأَمَةِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ مِنْ غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلَا مَطَرٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ لِمَ تُرَاهُ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ أَرَادَ التَّوْسِعَةَ عَلَى أُمَّتِهِ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to combine the prayers during travel and non-travel time: combining Zhuhr and Asr prayers, and Maghrib and Isha prayers.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «جَمَعَ فِي السَّفَرِ وَالْحَضَرِ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to combine between the prayers while traveling, combining the noon and afternoon prayers and the evening and night prayers.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ الصَّلَاتَيْنِ فِي السَّفَرِ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the Dhuhr and Asr prayers together in the city of Madinah, without being on a journey or in fear." I asked Ibn Abbas, "Why did he do that?" He said, "He wanted to not inconvenience anyone from his nation."

«جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ فِي غَيْرِ سَفَرٍ وَلَا خَوْفٍ» قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ لِمَ تَرَاهُ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ «أَرَادَ أَنْ لَا يُحْرِجَ أَحَدًا مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ combined the prayers of Dhuhr and Asr, and combined the prayers of Maghrib and Isha in Madinah, while he was stationary without fear or anything forcing him to do so. They asked, "Why did he do that, O Abu Abbas?" He replied, "He intended not to burden his Ummah."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ «جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَهُوَ مُقِيمٌ عَلَى غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلَا شَيْءٍ اضْطَرَّهُ إِلَى ذَلِكَ» فَقَالُوا فَلِمَ يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ؟ قَالَ «أَرَادَ أَنْ لَا يُحْرِجَ أُمَّتَهُ»

[AI] That the Prophet ﷺ prayed Dhuhr and Asr together in Madinah without fear or travel.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ وَالْعَصْرَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ جَمِيعًا فِي غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلَا سَفَرٍ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ performed the combined prayer of Dhuhr and Asr, and the combined prayer of Maghrib and Isha'.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ combined the noon and afternoon prayers and the sunset and evening prayers during travel.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَبَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ فِي السَّفَرِ»

[AI] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ combined the Dhuhr and Asr prayers in Madinah without any fear.

أَنَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ»

[AI] "That the Prophet ﷺ combined Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha prayers in Madinah without any reason. Ibn Abbas was asked about the purpose of this, and he said, 'To make it easier for his Ummah.'"

«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ مِنْ غَيْرِ عِلَّةٍ» فَقِيلَ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَا أَرَادَ بِذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ «التَّوَسُّعَ عَلَى أُمَّتِهِ»

Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed in Medina seven (rak'ahs) and eight (rak'ahs), i. e. (be combined) the noon and afternoon prayers (eight rak'ahs) and the sunset and 'Isha' prayers (seven rak'ahs). (Using translation from Muslim 705f)

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى بِالْمَدِينَةِ سَبْعًا وَثَمَانِيًا الظُّهْرَ وَالْعَصْرَ وَالْمَغْرِبَ وَالْعِشَاءَ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ الصَّلَاتَيْنِ

"Why?" He said: "So that there would not be any hardship on his Ummah." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 602)

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي بِالْمَدِينَةِ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ الصَّلَاتَيْنِ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ مِنْ غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلَا مَطَرٍ قِيلَ لَهُ لِمَ؟ قَالَ «لِئَلَّا يَكُونَ عَلَى أُمَّتِهِ حَرَجٌ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered the companions in the expedition of Tabuk between the times of midday and afternoon, and between the times of sunset and nightfall.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلَا سَفَرٍ

[AI] I heard Ibn Abbas saying, "I prayed eight raka'at with the Prophet ﷺ , and seven raka'at with Ali." Sufyan narrated to us from Abu Zubair, from Sa'id bin Jubair, from Ibn Abbas, who said the same. So I asked Ibn Abbas, "Why did he do that?" He said, "He wanted to lighten the burden on his Ummah." Sufyan added in another narration from Abu Zubair, without fear or travel.

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ يَقُولُ صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ثَمَانِيَ جَمِيعًا وَسَبْعًا جَمِيعًا وَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ وَحَدَّثَنَا بِهِ سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مِثْلَهُ فَقُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ لِمَ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ أَرَادَ أَنْ لَا يُحْرِجَ أُمَّتَهُ وَزَادَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً فِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ فِي غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلَا سَفَرٍ

"عَنْ صَالِحٍ مَوْلَى التوأَمَة أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ: جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ، وَالْمَغْرِبِ والعِشَاءِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ في غَيْرِ سَفَرٍ وَلا خَوْفٍ، قَالَ: قُلتُ لابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: لِمَ تَرَاهُ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ؟ ، قَالَ: أَرَادَ التَّوْسِعَةَ عَلَى أُمَّتِهِ".

"عَنْ سَعيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: جَمَعَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْر بِالْمَدينَةِ في غَيْرِ سَفَرٍ وَلا خَوْفٍ، قَالَ: قُلتُ لابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: وَلِمَ تَرَاهُ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ: أَرَادَ أَنْ لا يُحْرجُ أَحَدًا مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ".
