The sanctity of the wives of Mujahids is like the sanctity of their mothers for those who sit at home (i. e do not go out for Jihad). Anyone who stays behind looking after the family of a Mujahid and betrays his trust will be made to stand on the Day of judgment before the Mujahid who will take away from his meritorious deeds whatever he likes. So what do you think (will he leave anything)? (Using translation from Muslim 1897a)

Sulaiman bin Buraidah reported on the authority of his father. When the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ appointed a Commander over an Army or a detachment, he instructed him to fear Allaah himself and consider the welfare of the Muslims who were with him. He then said “When you meet the polytheists who are your enemy, summon them tone of three things and accept whichever of them they are willing to agree to, and refrain from them. Summon them to Islam and if they agree, accept it from them and refrain from them. Then summon them to leave their territory and transfer to the abode of the Emigrants and tell them that if they do so, they will have the same rights and responsibilities as the Emigrants, but if they refuse and choose their own abode, tell them that they will be like the desert Arabs who are Muslims subject to Allaah’s jurisdiction which applies to the believers, but will have no spoil or booty unless they strive with the Muslims. If they refuse demand jizyah (poll tax) from them, if they agree accept it from them and refrain from them. But if they refuse, seek Alaah’s help and fight with them. When you invade the fortress and they (its people) offer to capitulate and have the matter referred to Allaah’s jurisdiction, do not grant this, for you do not know whether or not you will hit on Allaah’s jurisdiction regarding them. But let them capitulate and have the matter refereed to your jurisdiction and make a decision about them later on as you wish. Sufyan (bin ‘Uyainah) said thah ‘Alqamah said “I mentioned this tradition to Muqatil bin Habban, He said “Muslim narrated it to me.” Abu Dawud said “He is Ibn Haidam narrated from Al Nu’man in Muqqarin from the Prophet ﷺ like the tradition of Sulaiman bin Buraidah. [Machine] We besieged Khaybar and the banner was taken by Abu Bakr, but he returned without it being opened for him. Then Umar took it from him, went out and returned without it being opened for him. That day the people suffered severity and hardship. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, I will hand over the banner tomorrow to a man whom Allah and His Messenger love, and he loves Allah and His Messenger. He will not return until it is opened for him." So we spent that night hoping for victory. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the morning prayer and stood up, he called for the banner and the people were in their positions. He called Ali while he was blind in both eyes. Ali got up and tears flowed from his eyes. He handed him the banner and it was opened for him. Buraida said, "I was among those who were optimistic about it."

[Machine] I heard Buraydah say, "Salman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he arrived in Medina with a tray of dates. He placed it in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said, 'What is this, O Salman?' Salman replied, 'It is a charity for you and your companions.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Raise it, for we do not eat charity.' So Salman raised it, and the next day he came with the same amount and placed it in front of him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, 'What is this, O Salman?' Salman replied, 'It is a charity for you and your companions.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Raise it, for we do not eat charity.' So Salman raised it again, and the next day he came with the same amount and carried it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, 'What is this, O Salman?' Salman replied, 'It is a gift for you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his companions, 'Spread it out.' Then, he looked at the ring on the back of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and believed in it. It belonged to a Jew, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ bought it from him for a certain amount of money and the condition was to plant a date palm. Salman worked on it until it bore fruit. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ planted all the date palms except for one, which Umar planted. It produced fruit from the first year, while the palm that Umar planted did not bear fruit. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, 'What is wrong with this one?' Umar said, 'I planted it, O Messenger of Allah.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then uprooted it and planted it again, and it bore fruit from the following year."
