11. Chapter of Rā (Male)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Seek out your neighbor before your own house and your companion before the journey."
[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Dhul Khalifah from Tihama when the people obtained camels and sheep, and they hurried and overcooked the pots. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to them and ordered the pots to be reduced, so they were evenly distributed and ten sheep were exchanged for one goat. We also slaughtered a camel and a man threw an arrow at it, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ confiscated it. He said, "These animals have offspring like the offspring of wild beasts, so whatever you have left, do this with it." Then Rafa' ibn Khadij approached him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we fear or hope for an encounter with the enemy, and we do not have meat that can be preserved. Should we slaughter the camels?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If the blood is drained and the name of Allah is mentioned upon it, then eat. Do not eat the teeth or the hooves. I will tell you about this. As for the teeth, they are bones, and as for the hooves, they are the length of an Abyssinian span." Rafa' added, "Then a sick camel fell into a well in the city, so it was taken out by drawing water from it. 'Umar took a piece from it worth a dirham."
[Machine] We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we hope to encounter our enemy, so it is possible that we may not have some of the equipment that will benefit us. Should we eat every slaughtered animal without restrictions?" He said, "Yes, every animal that has flowing blood is permissible to eat except for the canine tooth and the hoof."
[Machine] He said, "O Messenger of Allah, tomorrow we will encounter the enemy, but we do not have provisions." He (the Messenger) said, "What prohibits the blood from flowing, and the Name of Allah is mentioned upon it, then everything is permissible except for the tooth and nail. (Then) I will inform you about the tooth, it is a bone, and as for the nail, it is the length of a habsah (a measurement)." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ obtained some camels as spoils of war, so a man from the people threw an arrow hitting it, and he killed it. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ confiscated it and said, "Indeed, these camels have (many) descendants, like the descendants of the wild animals. So when something from them defeats you, do this." He said, "And the Prophet ﷺ used to distribute one-tenth of the booty in sheep, by means of a camel." And Muhammad narrated to me, and I had also heard from Sufyan, this letter (the Harf)

[Machine] While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Dhi al-Hulayfah from Tihamah, the people were hungry, so they managed to obtain sheep and camels. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at the end of the people, so they hurried and slaughtered the animals and cooked the pots. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to them and commanded for the pots to be piled up and they were filled with the meat. Then he divided ten sheep for one camel. Among the people, there was a camel that got tired and they sought it, so a man shot it with an arrow and captured it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, these animals have owners, just like wild animals have owners. What is taken from them is for you to use in this way." We said, "We fear or hope that we might encounter the enemy tomorrow and we don't have any means. Should we slaughter it with a piece of wood?" He said, "As long as the blood is drained and the name of Allah is mentioned upon it, then everything except for the teeth and the hoofs can be eaten. I will inform you about that. As for the teeth, they are bones and as for the hoofs, they are the measurement of a Habasha adornment."

[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Dhu al-Hulayfah when camels and sheep were injured. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at the end of the people, so they hurried and slaughtered. They made pots and the Prophet ﷺ sent them the pots. He commanded them to boil it, and it softened. Then he divided ten sheep into camels. There were camels among the people that were weak, so they asked for it, but they were tired. A man approached it with an arrow and shot it, so it was captured. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, these animals have offspring like the offspring of wild beasts, so take what you need from them and do it like this." My grandfather said: "We hope or fear that we will meet the enemy tomorrow, and we have no supply. Shall we slaughter with a bone?" So he said: "It does not drain the blood, and the name of Allah is mentioned upon it. So eat, except for the teeth and nails." I will inform you about that. As for the teeth, it is made of bone, and as for the nails, it is the length of a habasha (Ethiopian).

[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Dhul-Hulayfah when we acquired some camels and sheep. Some people hurriedly slaughtered and cooked them before they were distributed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by the pots and asked, "What is this?" It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, they have slaughtered and cooked (the animals)." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the pots to be emptied and then ordered the distribution of the spoils, saying, "Each camel shall be exchanged for ten sheep." While we were still in the process, a camel from the spoils went astray, and a man from the people searched for it and found it. Another man threw an arrow at it, and it injured the camel. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, this camel has offspring, just like a wild animal. If any of them overpowers you, do the same to them." Then my grandfather said, "O Messenger of Allah, we are afraid that we will encounter the polytheists tomorrow, and we do not have enough provisions." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not slaughter any animal without mentioning the name of Allah, and eat everything except the spinal cord and the nail (of the animal). I will tell you about what to do in that case. As for the bone, it is a piece of meat, and as for the nail, it is a discard of the Habashiyyah."

[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ that a she-camel of the charity camels called out, so they pursued it. When they were unable to catch it, a man shot it with an arrow and killed it. They asked the Prophet about its consumption, so he ordered them to eat it, saying, "Indeed, it has offspring just like the offspring of wild beasts. If you fear anything from it, then treat it as you treated this one, then eat it."
[Machine] We were raiders with the Prophet ﷺ when a man from the group said, "O Messenger of Allah, tomorrow we will surprise the enemy and we do not have any axes or picks with us. Shall we slaughter with the mayja and the marwa?" He ﷺ said, "Yes, mention the name of Allah upon it and everything except the canine tooth and the hoof. As for the canine tooth, it is a bone, and as for the hoof, it is the mayja of the Abyssinians."

[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a battle, and we said: "Tomorrow we will attack the enemy, but we do not have sufficient provisions." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Anything that is slaughtered and the name of Allah is mentioned upon it, then it is permissible for you to eat it, except for what is considered a bone or a claw, for the tooth is a bone and the claw is the horn of the Abyssinians."

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Surely, this camel has young ones like the young ones of a wild animal. So when something separates from it, deal with it in this manner." A man said, "We used to slaughter using Marwah and a piece of stick." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let the blood flow as you wish, as long as it does not have a tooth or nail, as the tooth is a bone and the nail is the size of a coin."
