11. Chapter of Rā (Male)
[Machine] I heard Anas ibn Malik say, "The furthest people from the Prophet ﷺ in terms of residence were two men from the Ansar: Abu Lubaba ibn Abdul Munzir, whose house was in Quba, and Abu Yahya in Bani Haritha. They used to pray Asr (afternoon prayer) with him and then go to their people without praying, in order to show their commitment to the Prophet's emphasizing the importance of praying Asr (on time)."
[Machine] About Urwah, "Regarding the naming of the people of al-Aqabah from the Ansar, then from the Banu Zurayq, Rifaa'ah bin Rafa'a bin Malik bin Ajlan bin Amr bin Zurayq, he was a Neqeeb and witnessed the Battle of Badr."
[Machine] About Ibn Shihab: "Regarding the naming of those who witnessed the Battle of Badr from the Ansar and then from the Banu Zurayq tribe, it is Rifaa'ah bin Rafi' bin Malik bin Ajlan."
[Machine] About Muhammad ibn Ishaq, "In the naming of those who witnessed the Battle of Badr from the Ansar, then from the Khazraj, and then from the Banu Zurayq, there is Rifaa'ah ibn Rafi' ibn Malik ibn Al-Ajlani ibn Amr ibn Asim ibn Zurayq ibn Abd Harithah ibn Malik ibn Ghadab ibn Jusham ibn Khazraj."
[Machine] From his father: "Regarding the naming of those who witnessed with Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, from the companions of the Prophet, Rafaa'ah ibn Raafi', a Badri of the Bani Zurayq."
"My father narrated to me that a paternal uncle of his, who had been at Badr, said: 'I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the masjid when a man came in and prayed two rak'ahs, then he came and greeted the Prophet ﷺ with salam. The Prophet ﷺ had been watching him as he prayed, so he returned his salam, then he said: "Go back and pray, for you have not prayed." So he went back and prayed, then he came back and greeted the Prophet ﷺ with salam. He returned the salam, then he said: "Go back and pray, for you have not prayed." The third or fourth time this happened, then the man said: "By the One Who revealed the Book to you, I have done my best and have tried hard; show me and teach me." He said: 'When you want to pray, perform wudu and do it well, then turn to face the Qiblah and say the takbir. Then recite the Quran, then bow until you are at ease in bowing. Then stand up until you are standing straight, then prostrate until you are at ease prostrating, then sit up until you are at ease sitting, then prostrate until you are at ease prostrating, then get up. If you complete the prayer in this manner you wil hve done it properly, and whatever you do less than this is lacking from you prayer.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1314)

A paternal uncle of his who was present at Badr told him, that a man entered the masjid and prayed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was watching, but we did not realize. When he had finished, he came and greeted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with salam. He said: "Go back and pray, for you have not prayed." So he went back and prayed, then he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said: "Go back and pray, for you have not prayed." (This happened) two or three times. Then the man said to him: "By the One who has honored you , O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I have tried my best; teach me." He said: "When you get up to pray, perform wudu and do it well, then turn to face the Qiblah and say the takbir. Then recite the Quran, then bow until you are at ease in bowing. Then stand up until you are standing straight, then prostrate until you are at ease prostrating, then sit up until you are at ease sitting, then prostrate until you are at ease prostrating, then get up, and continue doing that until you have finished your prayer." "While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting with us around him, a man came in, turned towards the Qiblah and prayed. When he had finished his prayer, he came and greeted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people with Salam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: 'And also to you. Go and pray, for you have not prayed.' So he went and prayed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ started watching him, and he (the man) did not know what was wrong with it. When he had finished the prayer, he came and greeted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people with salam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: 'And also to you. Go and pray, for you have not prayed.' He repeated it two or three times, then the man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is wrong with my prayer?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The prayer of any of you is not complete unless he performs wudu properly as enjoined by Allah, the Mighty and Sublime. So he should wash his face, his arms up to the elbows, and wipe his head, and (wash) his feet up to the ankles. Then he should magnify Allah (SWT) and praise Him and glorify Him.'" - (One of the narrators) Hammam said: "I heard him say: 'He should praise Allah and glorify Him and magnify Him." He said: "I heard both of them." -"He (the Prophet ﷺ) said: 'He should recite whatever is easy for him of the Quran that Allah has taught him and permitted him in it (the prayer). Then he should say the Takbir and bow until his joints settle and he is relaxed. Then he should say: 'Sami Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him)' and stand up straight until his backbone is straight (and at ease). Then he should say Takbir and prostrate until he has placed his face firmly on the ground." "I heard him say: his forehead, until his joints settle and he is relaxed. Then he should say the Takbir and sit up until his backbone is straight (and at ease). Then he should prostrate until he has placed his face firmly on the ground and he is relaxed. If he does not do that then he has not completed his prayer." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1136)

[Machine] A man entered the mosque and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting, so he prayed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded him to repeat his prayer two or three times. The man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, why do I have to repeat my prayer two or three times?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The prayer of none of the people is complete until he performs ablution, placing the ablution in its proper places, then he says 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the Greatest), then praises Allah the Almighty and glorifies Him, then recites whatever is easy for him from the Qur'an, then he says 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the Greatest) until he feels relaxation in his joints, then he says 'Samia Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears whoever praises Him), until he is standing straight, then he says 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the Greatest) and prostrates until he feels relaxation in his joints, then he raises his head until he is sitting straight, then he prostrates again until he feels relaxation in his joints. If he does not do this, his prayer is not complete."

He said, "When you stand up for prayer, perform ablution as Allah commanded you. Then, face the qibla and say takbeer. He prayed and then came forward and greeted him, saying, "Peace be upon you. Go back and pray, for you have not prayed." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have tried, so explain to me." He said, "When you stand up for prayer, glorify Allah, then recite as much of the Quran as is easy for you. Then, when you bow, keep your hands on your knees until every bone in your body rests. Then, when you raise your head, stand straight until every bone returns to its place. Then, when you prostrate, remain in tranquility until every bone in your body returns to its place. Then, when you raise your head, remain in that position until every bone returns to its place. Then, do the same in your second rak'ah. [Machine] A man came to the Prophet while he was sitting in the mosque. He prayed near him and then left. He stood and greeted him. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Repeat your prayer, for you have not prayed." So he prayed something similar to what he had prayed earlier and then left. He stood before the Prophet again and the Prophet said to him, "Repeat your prayer, for you have not prayed." The man said, "O Prophet of Allah, teach me." The Prophet said, "When you face the Qiblah, say takbeer, then recite whatever you wish of the Quran. When you perform Ruku', place your hands on your knees, straighten your back, and make your weight fall evenly on your feet. When you raise your head from Ruku', make your body upright until all the bones return to their places. When you prostrate, place your forehead and nose on the ground. When you raise your head, sit on your left thigh, and do the same in every Rak'ah and Sujud."

So Rifaa'ah said (as he was present): "Do not reproach him, O Commander of the Faithful, for we used to do this during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." He said: "Did you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had knowledge of any of it?" They said: "No." Ali ibn Abi Talib said: "O Commander of the Faithful, this matter is not befitting. Who will they ask after you, O noble ones of Badr?" Ali said: "Send to the Mothers of the Believers." So he sent to Hafsah and she said: "I have no knowledge." So he sent to 'Aisha and she said: "If it exceeds circumcision, then ghusl is obligatory. Then they should melt wax and pour it over the area that has been balded." So a man walked with his companion and said: "What is this dialogue?" One of them claimed that it was the lesser recommended prayer. Ali ibn Abi Talib said: "It is not the lesser recommended prayer until it passes through seven layers." Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, said (interpretation of the meaning): "And indeed We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. And the jinns did We create aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. So when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves to him." So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them; except Iblis, he was proud and was one of the disbelievers. Allah said: "O Iblis! What prevents you from prostrating yourself to one whom I have created with both My Hands. Are you too proud (to fall prostrate to Adam) or are you one of the high exalted?" Iblis said: "I am better than him. You created me from fire, and him You created from clay. Allah said: "Then get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense." So, they disagreed regarding what Ali ibn Abi Talib said, but there was no objection to it."

[Machine] When it was the Day of Aḥad and the polytheists had fainted, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Stand so that I may praise my Lord." So they stood behind him in rows. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, all praise is due to You, there is no one to contract what You have expanded, nor is there anyone to expand what You have contracted, nor is there anyone to guide those whom You have led astray, nor is there anyone to lead astray those whom You have guided, nor is there anyone to bring close those whom You have kept far, nor is there anyone to keep far those whom You have brought close, nor is there anyone to give when You withhold, nor is there anyone to withhold when You give. O Allah, grant us an abundance of Your blessings, mercy, greatness, and sustenance. O Allah, I ask You for eternal bliss on the Day of Reckoning, and security on the Day of Fear. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You have given us and from the evil of what You have withheld from us. O Allah, take our souls as Muslims and join us with the righteous, neither disgraced nor trial-filled. O Allah, fight the disbelievers who obstruct Your path and reject Your messengers. O Allah, fight the disbelievers who have been given the Book, the deity of truth."
